Printing doesn't select proper PPD

When I select a printer in Illustrator, the PPD never updates to the correct PPD.
I have to select another random printer and then reselect the printer I need...then the PPDpull down menu will refresh with the correct PPD.
Is this not an auto function?... or is it common practice to have to scroll thru hundreds of PPD’s and select it manually?

Do you have the correct ppd assigned in your OS?

  • Undo doesn't select proper step in History

On Mac OS X 10.5, under LR 1.2, when I undo a step the step gets deleted from the History panel, the image reverts to the previous state, but it is the penultimate step that is highlighted. this is of course wrong, and confusing, even though, as I said, the image is correct.
Now I have installed LR 1.3, and the problem is still there.
    Anyone else have seen this?

Larry, I think David answered as clearly as I would do myself.
And David, thank you for finding this out on Tiger, as I only paid attention when I moved to Leopard.
I see where the Adobe logic is here. When you undo, you go down 1 in the list of steps you've done. But if you also delete the last step, that's a double move.
    Two solutions are possible:
    1. Leave the list untouched, and have the highlight in the list go down. This would allow for re-doing, and knowing what you would redo (until you do something different that is).
    2. Delete the last step, and keep the last one always highlighted (unless of course you choose to go directly to a previous step).
I'm not sure which one would be best. when you click on several 'saved states' in the History panel, if you undo at that time, you will be going back each step, regardless of where they are in the list. I'm starting to think that solution 1. above would best match this behaviour.
The fact remains that having one state selected, and a different image showing is not correct. Now I've confused you all again?

  • Why doesn't saving a print preset for selection printing work anymore? It previously did up to version 2.

I regularly like to highlight areas on web-pages, select print/name a print preset as "Print Selection" and check-mark 'Print Selection Only' of Options under the Firefox sub-heading. Then when I wanted to quickly print a selection instead of a whole web-page, I just highlighted an area, activated print, selected "Print Selection" and then checked print preview to view the selection before printing. That worked from version 2 only.
Now in version 3 +, all above can be done '''except''' the check-marked 'Print Selection Only' option in the Firefox sub-heading keeps resetting itself, even IF you have saved it check-marked as a print preset. Selecting the saved preset "Print Selection" next time will print (preview) the whole web-page, and not what was highlighted (selected) for printing. Why was this feature turned off?

Open Windows Event Viewer -> Custom Views -> Administrative Events. Look for the recent error messages with timestamp corresponding to Skype crash. Copy and paste here the text from the General tab.

  • Printer does not show a PPD

When I select a printer in Illustrator CS6, the PPD doesn't not populate.  I am running on Windows 7 64-bit.  I have tried several different printers and none of them will show the PPD.   I've downloaded the latest drivers for this operating system.  I don't have a problem printing from Word or Adobe Reader.  Illustrator is the only program that doesn't seem to recognize any of the printer drivers.
Any ideas on what I can do to get Illustrator to see the drivers?

    Buenas Tardes Rose,
Printers can be a problem sometimes.
    Try this...
Switch off and disconnect the printer. Use the disk that came with the printer to uninstall the software. Do not reinstall it. Restart your Mac. (Probably not necessary but I'm a great believer of: If in doubt turn it off then on again!) Plug in the USB cable and switch on your printer. Open Printer Setup Utility and see if:
    a) the printer shows
    b) it finds a driver.
    c) it asks you to install a driver
    d) If c) put your disk in.
    ¡Buena suerte!

Why can't I get my printer to print out a playlist from i-tunes? It used to work, but now the printer doesn't seem to recognize the "print" command coming from i-tunes. The printer works for other applications!

I  finally solved this problem after toiling with it for a couple of  days.  Solution:  Once you have  burned your CD you must go back into  iTunes to your music/playlists and select the playlist you just burned  and click file; print and you will  get the mosaics that we have been  accustomed to.  I was on hold with  Apple Support when I found this  myself.  Yes......!!! Problem solved..for me anyway.  Good luck!

  • Does captivate allow for quizzing that includes selecting proper electronic medical record action

Looking to see if Captivate will allow screen recording and interactivity to have end user select proper action in a medical record

Yes it is, you'll have to create a software training or assessment (or both, or even demo included within the same capture flow). And interactive objects, like click boxes/button/shape buttons (used to register a click), Text Entry boxes (used to let user enter text) can be assessed and scored. It doesn't look like a quiz (adding questions is also possible) but can be evaluated.
One example: I was a teacher and did teach MS Project. Most of my course consisted of Interactive tutorials and self-tests, both created with Captivate.

  • After installing 10.6.8, printer goes to pause mode, reinstalling printer doesn't change anything.

Printer is an HP 5850 connected to Apple Time Capsule via ethernet, and shared by two Apple Macs each running 10.6.8.  Printer was using HP Photosmart P1000 driver as there is no HP 5850 driver available for 10.6.  Printer was working fine in both text and graphics/photos until software update 10.6.8 was installed.  Now, after starting a print, the printer goes into pause mode.  Continued attempts to resume printing result in printer going to pause mode.  Deleting and reinstalling printer doesn't do anything, nor does installing latest HP printer drivers.  What is going on here?

The 10.6.8 update changed a number of printer backend services. For many brands of printer this has stopped them from printing, although usually there is an error message associated with the print job rather than the queue simply pausing.
You can check if you are getting an error by selecting the paused job in the print queue and pressing the blue Job Info button. If there is no mention of a backend failure then you may be able to get your printer working again by simply opening Print & Fax, selecting the HP printer and presssing the minus button under the list to remove the printer. Then click the plus button to add the printer again.
If selecting the Job Info button for the paused print job does reveal that there has been some sort of backend failure then have a look at this thread. There is a lot of information to go through but there are responses with links to scripts that can recover your previous 10.6.7 backend services, assuming you are using Time Machine.

  • Printer doesn't work

I have a Deskjet 930C USB printer. It has worked in Archlinux for over a year.
Then, it started doing useless things. These include: cutting of a part of the text on the left side, no matter what printing driver I use, no matter with what program I print something, and, printing two pages over each other (when I really put an empty sheet of paper in it first).
Now, it has entered an even worse state: it doesn't print at all anymore. If I try to print something, no matter what printer driver I select or with what program I print something, there's just a print icon from KDE in the bottom right that stays there forever.
In Windows, it can still print perfectly and without problems.
First of all, are there known recent printing problems for hp printers with one of the upgrades? And are there any known solutions?
Second, I'd like to uninstall *everything* that has to do with printing, from the most low level driver things to the most highest level printing tools. And then I want to reinstall them all again. This in the hope that it'll work properly again after that.
So, what things do I have to uninstall and reinstall for this?
EDIT: some more info: here's what hp-toolbox sais:
toolbox [ERROR]: Unable to communicate with device: hp:/usb/DeskJet_930C?serial=HU1251J15CJJ
    toolbox [WARNING]: Device not found
toolbox [ERROR]: Unable to communicate with device: hp:/usb/DeskJet_930C?serial=HU1251J15CJJ
    toolbox [WARNING]: Device not found
This, while the printer is plugged into USB and powered on.

Possible problem with the order of uevents.  Perhaps the order of usb devices which could be averted with rc.conf.

  • [Solved]Unbootable fresh intall - reboot and select proper boot device

Hello, this is not my first Arch Linux installation, but it is my first time posting to the forums. I just completed my second attempt at installing Arch on a brand-new Toshiba Satellite C55. After the installation completes and I reboot, instead of Grub I get a blank screen with this message:
Reboot and select proper Boot device
or Insert Boot Media in selected Boot device and press a key
I thought maybe I made a mistake, so I started over and completed a second installation, only to get the same message. I am not sure how to proceed. I tried booting from a xubuntu live usb I had lying around, and it doesn't recognize that either, although it does recognize my Arch live usb.
    Any ideas?

UPDATE: I erased the entire disk with
    sgdisk -Z
and reinstalled again, this time creating only a boot partition and a root partition for the rest . Installed gummiboot instead of GRUB.  This time it worked, so I know that at least I did not brick my machine.
I don't know if erasing the disk did the trick (since this machine had previously had Windows 8 on it, and may have had something "leftover"), or if I had made a mistake during the partition or when mounting the partitions (I noticed an error in my fstab the third time around, so I started over ,again, and the fourth time it worked).
Just thought I would post this in case any other newbies run into the same issue.

  • Error Message Reboot and select proper boot device: C50-B-13N

    Hello All,
My recently-purchased C50-B-13N laptop was installing 39 updates yesterday, when it crashed.
Re-starting trapped me into a continual loop. Following what appeared to be the logical approach to reset the factory settings, I
appear to have accidentally deleted the data on the drive.
I now repeatedly received the error message "Reboot and select proper boot device".
I've tried the F12 approach to <HDD recovery>, but my Boot Menu doesn't state this option.
I'm frustrated that the new laptop was performing so poorly, given I've had Toshiba devices for ~10 years. Additionally, I'm disappointed that the potentially serious implications of deleting the drive <even accidentally> were not clearly advised to me, before commencing.
    Please advise a solution.
The laptop is 4 months old, so presumably, is covered by warranty.
An unhappy customer experience, thus far.
    Regards,
    DG.

If you failed to create recovery media, you may need to order it from Toshiba.

  • Satellite M50D-A-10W - "reboot and select proper boot device" error

I have a Toshiba Satellite M50D-A-10W that went all "reboot and select proper boot device" nuts on me.
This occurred before and it was solved by alt-ctr-del then F12 to enter BIOS where the date had gone back to sometime in 2010 - after bringing it up to the present and changing the boot device, everything worked fine ... until the next day.
Now I get the "reboot and select proper boot device" screen, but the F12 key doesn't work; I also tried F2 ... the message keeps multiplying, no BIOS ...
    Please, help!

Are you abele to access the HDD recovery option?

  • Why can't I print just a selection of an Apple Mail message?

I have a MacBook running OS 10.5.8 (with the latest updates). My preferred browser is Firefox 15.0.1. I have always been able to print just a selection of a document, and I can do so in Microsoft Word, Google Mail, everything, it seems except Apple Mail. I have a little HP inkjet printer and a new Brother laser printer (HL-5470DW). I've searched their Help menus and manuals, as well as the Help menu for Mac and have found nothing about printing selections of Apple Mail messages. Is there a way to do that? Or do I have to copy the selection into a different document, like one in Microsoft Word for Mac? Or Google Mail? I prefer not to do that last option. The formatting choices are not the greatest.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
    Jenny

Thanks BDAqua. It seems so silly that it's so easy in other contexts, but it's good not to keep on trying something futile

  • I can not print only a selected part of a page

I have reset the print.print_printer and still can't print only the selected part of a page. I highlight what I want to print and use control P to get to the printer setup. Then I click the selection button and then OK. The preview screen shows what would print but the page has blank space above what was selected. This has only started to happen since the upgrade to FF 11.0. I have tried the same operation using IE and it works fine. please, is there a fix for this??

  • I cannot print just a selection of a page, what can I do?

I have seen that other people have asked this question also, but none of the replies on the forum are satisfactory. They all say it is not a good thing what you have done with the print option. I want to print a simple recipe, maybe half a page, I go to print and cannot select the option to print just the selection. It shows 7 pages to print! What a waste of time, paper, and ink!!!
The only option people seem to have found is to copy the selection and paste it in a word document. Then you end up with a lot of junk in word that is not needed. This is also time consuming.
My old version of foxfire didn't have this problem. Please fix this issue or I will be forced to switch to another browser, which I don't want to do as foxfire still has the least crashes of any browser I have used.

Simple answer is - '''don't use the Print button when you want to print a selection'''.
    # Select the text that you want to print.
    # Use '''{ Ctrl + P }''' to open the "native print dialog".
    # 'tick' '''Selection''' under Print Range
    # Hit the Print button in that dialog box to print that "selection".
