Printing double-sided selectively

Is there any way I can set up my printer or my Indesign pages itself to selectively print some pages double sided and some as single pages?
I have a 60 page document which was originally set up to print as single-sided sheets. The client now decides that he wants some sections to have note lines on the back while other pages don't. This means selective double-sided printing.
My setup is very basic. I have 2 master-pages A & B. A master contains all of my copy and B master contains the note lines.
Now the issue is, how can I tell the printer to print some pages double-sided while others not to. I have 30 manuals I have to compile and it would be a tedious task to turn double sided on/off for each section 30x's over!
I'm working on a Sharp Multifunction office copier (MX-7040) and Indesign CS5.

You might want to consider including numbering for the blank pages, although the numbers do not need to appear on the page.
It might be disconcerting for the end user to scroll through a document with the random number sequence. Also, if the document goes to pdf, the page numbers in Acrobat's Page field will not coordinate with the document numbering. It is frustratting in Acrobat to type in 68 in the page bar and be taken to document page 42 (for example).
Use a master without Auto Page character for the blank pages.
If you wish to go with your proposed format, you would need to define new sections after each blank page and define the start number.

  • HP Laserjet P2035n is set to print double-sided, but I can't change it in the preferences

Last week i downloaded and printed a PDF file. Since then, my HP Laserjet 2035n is set to print double-sided. Here are the details.
I'm running an HP Pavilion Laptop with Windows 7 Home.
The printer is set up as a network printer.
When I try to print something, it stops after one page waiting for me to re-feed the paper manually to print on the other side.
It's only this laptop that's messed up. My other computer prints fine
When I go to Printers, right click on the 2035n, and select "Printer Properties" and look at the bottom of the General tab, it reads under Features "Double Sided: Yes"
If I then click 'Preferences..." and go to the Finishing tab, under Document Options, the box "Print On Both Sides (Manually)" box is unchecked.
    Here's what I've tried:
I have uninstalled and reinstalled the printer
    I reinstalled the printer drivers
I have tried reinstalling under a different name
Any suggestions? Can someone tell me where the printer preferences file is so I can manually delete it then reinstall the printer drivers? Is there a tool for the P2035N to uninstal EVERYTHING related to it?
    Thanks.

    Hi,
    Please try the following settings:
Right click the printer icon, then click Printer Properties.
    Click the Device Settings tab.
At the very bottom, uncheck the Allow Manual Duplexing option.
Now try printing and check for any change.
Please let me know of any change,
    Shlomi

  • Hp Color Laserjet pro M177fw won't print double sided anymore

Hello.   I have a Hp Color Laserjet pro M177fw until about three weeks ago it would print double sided no problems.  I have used this printer on my pc and now my mac with no problems previously.  I am running a Macbook Pro (less then six months old) which is running 10.10.1 (Yosemite).  I attend college and I know at the end of last quarter during finals week (Dec. 15th) I still had the ability to do 2 sided printing.  Sometime between then and the new quarter starting last monday I lost the ability to do 2 sided printing.  After scouring the internet I have tried everything they suggest:
    Uninstalling printer and reinstalling
resetting the printer setting on the mac and then reinstalling printer
resetting the printer settings on mac, rebooting and then reinstalling printer
installing older drivers( hp automatically installs newest drivers even if you use an older driver file)
resetting physical printer to factory default and reconnecting to wireless network.
    repairing the disk permissions
The only new software I have installed on the computer in the last three weeks is Adobe Creative Cloud and the printing problem preexisted that installation.

    Hi @Arboria9 ,
I see that you are experiencing issues printing two-sided from Yosemite. I would like to help you resolve this issue.
You have pretty much have done all the steps that I would have provided.
Are you still able to print two-sided from the Windows computer?
Are you missing the option to select two-sided printing in the print driver?
Check the driver name that is installed for the printer. Make sure it shows just the printer's name.
Click the Apple menu and then click System Preferences. Click Printers & Scanners, highlight the printer name on the left side and on the right side of the screen it should show the printer's name. (Officejet 6500)
If the full printer name isn't listed correctly, delete it and add the printer name back in from the list. Click the - sign to delete the driver and then click the + sign to add the driver, might have to click the drop down to select the printer's name to add it in.
How was the printer name listed?
If you need further assistance, just let me know.
    Have a great day!
    Thank You.

  • How to print double sided with macbook pro on Samsung CLX-3180?

    Hi,
I recently switched to using a macbook pro but cannot figure out how to print double sided/two-sided.
The printer I am using is Samsung CLX-3180 and it allows double-sided printing. I was able to do this with my windows computer previously.
The frustrating thing is that I see the two-sided feature but I cannot figure out how to turn it on. There is no option to change it.
    It is listed here.
First, I go to "show presets."
Then, I click on "copies & pages" but I cannot turn it on.
Does anyone know how to turn it on?
Any suggestions would be highly appreciated.
    Thanks.

    Hi nat.the.musical,
If you are having issues selecting two-sided printing from the Print window, you may find the following article helpful (it is aimed at Mountain Lion, but should also apply to Mavericks):

  • HP 4300 All-in-one not printing double sided

    Hello
Here is my setup. I have a HP 4300 All-in-one printer set up on a network. There are two computers on this network, and XP and a vista. The printer is installed on the XP, and the vista accesses the printer via the LAN network (Wired, not wireless).
Here's the problem: When, on the vista computer, I try to manually print on both sides, the only option I get in the "Print on both sides" option in properties is "off." However, on the XP I get the option to do it manually.
Is there anything I can do to enable the "manual" option on the vista?
    Thanks.

I'm having the same problem expect with different operating systems and printers. I have a HP Deskjet D1455 that's wired to a laptop with Vista x32. I have another laptop connected to that printer wirelessly that has Windows 7 x64. On the laptop that's connected to the printer, I can print double sided with 4 different options. However, I cannot with my laptop that's connected wirelessly through printer sharing.
At first, it looks like I can do it but once I select "Manual" it disappears and turns off. Any ideas?

  • I am using a MacBook Pro and am trying to print double sided copies on the HP Deskjet 3054 that came with it. Can anyone tell me how to do this?

I am using a MacBook Pro and am trying to print double sided copies on the HP Deskjet 3054 that came with it. Can anyone tell me how to do this? I am a total MacBook nube and can use any help you may offer! Thank you so much.

How you enable double-sided printing can depend on the applications from whick you wish to print. Example: if I print to my HP PhotoSmart  from Safari, I get this print dialog box:
(Edit: OOPS! Note that I forgot to switch printers when i took the scene-shots, so ignore the "Brother" reference. It's should look the same for your HP.
Note the selection labled "Safari" near the bottom. If I change that form "safari to "Layout: I get this:
Note the option for two-sided printing appears for your selection. If I print from Word, the box is different:
The "Copies & Pages" option can be changed to "Layout" when you click it, again allowing the selection of two-sided printing.
If you tell us what applciaiton is vexing you, we may be able to give better-focused information.

  • LaserJet 1015 on Win 7 (32-bit) won't print double-sided

I was always able to print double sided on XP without any problem. But after I got a new PC with Windows 7 Professional, 32-bit (with driver from win 7 itself), it would no print double-sided anymore, even though I checked the option for it in the printer option dialog box. Even the on screen reminder to instruct you to take out the papers and re-enter them for printing the other side doesn’t appear anymore. The manual double sided printing' checkbox in the driver dialog is now totally useless.  Please help.

Have the same problem with a LaserJet 1150... did manual double-sided printing fine in Windows XP, but when the computer was upgraded to Win7 64-bit, it prints single-sided every time, even when you select the options for double-sided, and the Continue button does not appear. Has anyone found a fix for this?  I've tried all sorts of configurations in the driver properties/preferences.

  • Printing double sided

    Hi,
I just got a MacBook Pro and am finding I can't print double sided. My old PC prints double sided to the same printer (an HP LaserJet 4250dtn) so that shouldn't be a problem, but there doesn't seem to be an option in my Print window to print double sided at all (it does offer to print 2 pages on 1 page, but not with one page on each side). Do I need to download something to make this possible or is it simply not? Grateful for any help.

That's exactly what I TRY to do, however, I can't get Preview to actually FOLLOW those instructions. When I select the "Paper Handling" menu in the print dialog and choose either "print Odd pages only" or even only, I still get the whole darn range printed! This sometimes works and sometimes doesn't and I don't know until the wrong pages come out and ruin the already printed other sides that I have put in the manual feed tray.
Doing a print preview onscreen before printing never helps either as that ALWAYS comes out with all pages showing, not matter what range I put in the dialog box. I don't know if this is a problem with my printer (Brother MFC-8840DN, connected by both USB and ethernet) or with Preview. I don't seem to have this problem with Acrobat Reader though.

  • Network printer no longer printing double sided

I've recently set up my airport extreme (AE) base station in bridge mode with my Verizon fios wireless router. I also have an airport express connected to a Brother laser printer via USB. The AE is getting ip addresses from the Verizon router, and I have not yet turned off any wireless signals, so both routers are sending out a signal. In this configuration, I can still send print jobs to my laser printer fine, but the printer no longer prints double sided even when the print settings are set to do so. I've also noticed that I can no longer see the printer status when I open up the specific printer app. for that printer. All of this was possible over my wireless network when I was running a simple cable modem to the AE and the AE was the only router in the house. Could this problem be caused by having two wireless antennas running at the same time or does this sound like another problem?

To try... set a different printer as the default, and have the network printer as non-default selection

  • Safari 5.17 printing double sided

Why doesn't Safari 5.17 accept my preferences for printing double sided? Older version of Safari  keeps my preferences but the newer versions default to single sided printing.

    File > Print Booklet
Booklet Type > 2 up Saddle Stitch
From that Print Booklet dialog, click the Print Settings button (bottom the the Print Booklet dialog) and modify the Print dialog- you will probably have to select Orientation rotate.
Select ok from the  Print dialog, returning to the Print Booklet dialog.
In short, you jump between two dialog boxes, until the preview looks correct in Print Booklet. I would suggest setting the printer to Adobe PDF and printing from Acrobat.

  • Printing double sided yosimite

I am trying to print double sided but although when I click on the layout option, I see the Two-Sided option with Off set.  It is dimmed out so that I cannot click on it to set it to yes.
I tried going into printers and scanners and doing it there but there is no option for this (see image below).  Please can anyone help?
    I have a Canon LBP7110Cw printer

in system preferences, I go to printers & scanners, then click on the printer I want then go to options and supplies (see images).
Then I get the window that had a chioce of General, Supply Levels, Utility.  General doesn't have the options, Supply levels is about the ink and the Utility gives the windown below:
When I click on the 'open printer utility' nothing happens.  The OK and CANCEL are not highlighted or clickable.  I believe this is where I set it up for double printing but can't as the option isn't selectable.
Other methods in the 'print' for a document, as earlier described don't work either.

  • Cannot get MF4890w to stop printing double sided. HELP!

I print from various applications and from MS Word there is no 2-sided option to uncheck...even in every dialoguw box and window I try and find one. It printes double sided EVERYTIME and it is starting to actually waste paper as I am having to reprint several times to no avail.
How can I completely disable two-sided printing on this machine?
    Thanks

    Hello BigBevo,
I'm sorry to hear about the difficulty with enabling 1-sided printing and am glad to help. A common cause of the issue can be due either to the Print Side setting requiring adjusting or confirming that single-sided printing is enabled in the printer driver for your operating system.  Depending on your OS and version, the setting may be found on the Finishing tab of the driver in Windows, or, as a radio button under Print Style in the Basic drop-down menu of the Print dialog box on a Mac.
To review how to check the Print Side setting and if Print Side Priority is set, click here.
Once reaching the FAQ area you can access the Article, "Selecting the Print Side (MF4890dw/MF4880dw Only)" by typing in the article name.

  • Canon MG 3222 grays out option to print double-sided

    Hi
I have an iMac and MacAir. The print double-sided option is grayed out on both computers. I can't find a solution. Help would be appreciated.

    Hi JamieP,
On your Mac, please go to System Preferences, then Print and Scan.  Click on the minus button to remove the current listing for your printer.  Next, on the left side there will be an option to add a printer; click on the + button.  Select your printer and under "Use" select the listing for your printer that is not related to AirPrint.  Once this has been done, please try to select the duplex printing option again.

  • Canon MF4450 Printer Double-Sided Problem

When I use Windows... I can print "double-sided" without any problems..
Somehow, when I use Mac, the "double-sided" box is in grey color and i cannot chick on it...
Is there anyway to print double-sided on Mac?
I am using MacBook Pro 15 inch 2011 and the software of the printer is the latest version!
    HELP me Please

When your select print, click the button that says "Show Details" in the print window that opens.
in the dropdown menu that will have appeared in the window, click it and select "Layout". I am pretty sure that is where the two-sided setting is at.
I am not sure why that two sided button is greyed out. But the place I directed you too will let you select the 2 sided and the other setting associated with it.

  • I need a tutorial on printing double sided business cards through adobe illustrator

does anyone have any suggestions on where to find a tutorial on printing double sided business cards through adobe illustrator?

First of all double sided printing set-up from Illustrator is something that is very specific to the printer you are using, so you'd need to refer to your printer's user documentation to review the correct settings. Having said that the steps you take are very similar for all printers.
Here are some steps that might be of help:
The easiest way to this is probably to place the front and back of the business cards on two separate artboards, for example Artboard 1 for the front of the cards and Artboard 2 for the back of the cards. Use the Artboards panel (Window > Artobards) add a second artboard of you've not yet got front and back on separate sheets.
In the File > Print dialog box, in the General section ensure that 'All' Artboards are selected or define the Artboards Range to print if you have more than two artboards in your Illustrator file.
You might also want to enable Trim Marks (Marks and Bleed section) so you can easily trim the cards after printing.
You can access your printer specific settings, such as duplex or double sided printing by clicking 'Setup...' at the bottom of the Print dialog box in Illustrator.
Mostly you'll find an option you can enable called 'Double Sided'  or 'Two Sided'.
There will also be a second option for either Long Edge or Short Edge binding. For a portrait artboard you'd select Long-edge, for a landscape artboard you'd select Short Edge.
Once you've set the Setup specific to your printer click OK and you'll return to the Illustrator Print dialog box, from where you can now print.
You might need to tweak the position of your 'back' a little if your printer doesn't print perfectly registered.
