Printing duplex postcards

I want to print duplex to a 4x6 inch postcard. The printer is set with a duplex queue. No postscript printing only PCL printing. We are on Reports 6i running against the 9i db.
The data will come from one record. Fields 1,2,3 go to front side for the address. Fields 4,5,6 go to back side. There will be boilerplate on both sides. I am using a letter format. Should I use something else?
Is there a "HOWTO" which addresses my request or is there a sample report which i can use as the foundation to start this.
Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

I have tried several different data models and report layouts designs. I do have a printer which accepts the next record on the back side. But I need to split the record to the front and back of a single card.

you never initialized the server_output and the server_input vriables...
I see you have the getstreams() function which should initialize them but you never call it...
so untill you will call it those variables will stay null.
I can also see you do not implement constructors, its much easier just to implement these instead of functions initializing variables...
    Hope it will help
    private void getstreams() throws IOException
    server_output = new ObjectOutputStream

    server_output.flush();

  • Problem printing duplex even though it's saved in the Crystal Report.

    I'm using VS.NET 2010 with Crystal Reports 13.0.10.1385
We have a set of Crystal Reports that were created with Crystal 8.5 and they print duplex and the printer and printer preferences are saved with each Crystal Report.
The problem is this, I'm pulling in these reports to my VS.NET 2010 Project using Crystal Report Viewer and it will not keep the printer preferences when you print the report.  Why, it works using VB6.0?  The only way I can get it to print duplex is to manually set the printer preferences before printing the report.

    Hi Bill,
Update the reports to CR 2011 or above then that info should be saved. If not add this line of code to your app:
rpt.PrintOptions.PrinterDuplex = PrinterDuplex.Default; // you can change the last value
Or if using RAS use this:
    CrystalDecisions.ReportAppServer.ReportDefModel.PrintOptions RASPO = new CrystalDecisions.ReportAppServer.ReportDefModel.PrintOptions();
    RASPO.PrinterDuplex = CrPrinterDuplexEnum.crPrinterDuplexSimplex;
And comparing RDC to .NET doesn't work. RDC used COM and DEVMODE, .NET uses the System.Printer API set.

  • How can I save a Adobe document to print duplex for other users.

I want to create a doc using Adobe and be able to set it to print duplex by other users without the user needed to go into printer settings.
All the user has to do is click print on there computer and the doc. will print duplex. The users have Adobe Reader installed.

It is possible to set a default value for the Adobe Reader or Acrobat print dialog on a document basis. After the document is created, go to Document Properties (Ctrl-D), and select the Advanced tab. Go to the DuplexMode setting. Normally, this is set to Simplex, i.e. single sided printing. You can also set it to either Duplex Flip Long Edge or Duplex Flip Short Edge depending upon your needs. Duplex Flip Long Edge is normally used for printing of “portrait” orientation content with Duplex Flip Short Edge typically used for printing of “landscape” orientation content. Then save the PDF file (typically, “save as” should be used).
Important notes: Obviously, this only works if the PDF file is being opened by one of the applications that even bothers to look at these settings. Adobe Reader and Acrobat do. Don't count on MacOS Preview or other applications to do so! Furthermore (and somewhat obviously), this setting is only observed with print devices that directly support duplex printing. And finally, this does not force the user to print duplex. It simply pre-populates the print dialog; the user can change the setting.

  • Using a mac 10.6.8 to print duplex to HP laserjet P1606dn, order of paper comes out mixed up

using a mac 10.6.8 to print duplex to HP laserjet P1606dn, order of paper comes out mixed up as follows: the first page out is page 2, with 1 on reverse side, next page is page 4, with 3 on reverse side., etc.  This requires that I re-collate every paper I print.  Have tried a few things in set up and re-installing the printer, but still not fixed.

I am having the same problem.  Nice to see that HP has not responded.

  • How print duplex on Solaris 10 0508 x86 ?

    Hello,
I just installed Solaris 10 0508 x86 on a Ultra 20. We have a networked HP laserjet 8150dn printer. What is the option to print duplex?
Previously on Solaris 10, 1106, I followed the instructions on http://www.sun.com/bigadmin/content/submitted/duplex_printing.html and was able to print double-sided.
However, now on update 0508, the same lp and lpadmin option "-o sides=two-sided-short-edge" doesn't work - still prints single-sided. What gives? Please help me save a tree!
These lp or lpadmin options didn't work either:
    "-o duplex"
    "-o sides=duplex"
    Also looked at HP's SOLe134.PKG, but it's for SPARC, not x86 - couldn't find a download for x86.
    Thanks!

I'm not sure if there was some sort of corruption, but I eventually resolved the issue by removing and readding the printing-related packages from the CD:
    SUNWpcr
    SUNWpcu
    SUNWpsr
    SUNWpsu
    SUNWpsf
    SUNWscplp
    SUNWspman
    SUNWscpu
and then installing a default local virtual printer before the network one:
    # lpadmin -p new-printer -v /dev/term/a -T PS -I postscript..
    # enable new-printer
    # accept new-printer
    # lpstat -t

  • Printing duplex with HP Officejet Pro 8600 causes windows 7 OS to shut down/restart

Why when printing duplex with my HP Officejet Pro 8600 printer it causes windows 7( 64-bit) to shut down/restart. Windows message is "Windows has recovered from an unexpected shutdown.  I've ran HP Hardward Diag. Utility and Print and Scan Doctor which indicated everything is working properly with the printer.  Ocassionaly I can print duplex without windows shutting down and restarting, but most of the time it creates issue with Windows causing it to stop and restart.  Single sided printing seems to be fine.  I've already oncehad windows to "Startup Repair" in which ccase I selected restore to a previous working point.  Everything worked for awhile then a duplex printing session starting causing windows to shut down again.   THanks for your assistance.

Yes, the updated USB 3.0 driver corrects the issue and should be installed.

  • How do I get my new MG5420 to print duplex?

Have new Mac and new MG5420 that is supposed to print duplex but wont.....or cant.  The print boxes from the applications do NOT have any place to choose duplex........

I got to this thread because I had the exact same problem.  I set up my printer wirelessly to connect with an Imac and a Macbook Air, both with Mac OS Mountain Lion.  When I asked it to print, there were only a few options.  There was no duplex available, nor were there color options.  After trying a number of options like reinstalling printer drivers, I finally hit upon a solution.
I connected my printer to my Imac with a usb cable, and it showed up in my system preferences as "Canon MG5400 series -2" I enabled "share this printer on a network."  Immediately on my Imac, when I went to print, all the print options were available including duplex and color options.
I then went back to my laptop, and found the options were still NOT available.  However, I clicked on the "Printer" line at the top of the Print dialogue box, and it let me choose "Canon MG5400 series -2." As soon as I did that, all the advanced print options appeared on the Laptop Print dialogue box as well.
I don't know if this is the only way to fix the problem, but it certainly worked for me.  I know the option that I have repeatedly seen of "Look for a drop-down menu with the heading of either "Layout," "Copies and Pages," or the name of the application you are printing from.  Change this to 'Duplex Printing & Margin'" simply does not work, as the "Duplex Printing & Margin, just did not appear.
I hope this works for you as well.

  • Prints only a few pages when I print duplex.

I'm on a Apple MacBookPro running Mac OS X 10.7.5 using Adobe Reader 11.0.2, current as of 01-March-2013, and I noticed that I'm having problems printing duplex with an Toshiba eStudio 351c copier. I have a 50 page document that I want to print duplex but I only get three pages before it stops. I print the same document using Apple Preview and I could print all 50 pages duplex no problem. I have tried this with three different systems; Mac Pro ruuning 10.7.5, MacBookPro 10.6.8; all these are Adobe Reader 11.0.2 with different Toshiba print drivers and they both only print three before it stop so my thinking it has to do something with Adobe Reader 11.0.2.
I tested duplex Adobe Reader 10.1.6 and 9.5.4 on Mac OS 10.6.8 and it had no problems with duplex printing.
Does anyone else experience this issue with printing duplex with Adobe Reader 11.0.2 on Apple Mac OS X 10.6/7 and is there way to fix or will Adobe fix this possible issue?
    Thank you in advanced.

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of your add-ons is causing your problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
See [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]] and [[Troubleshooting plugins]]
If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all your extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
You can use "Disable all add-ons" on the [[Safe mode]] start window to disable all extensions.
You have to close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")

  • Cannot print duplex with adobe acrobat reader 9.1.3 on centos 5.3

    Hi,
I am managing some linux servers for users and I am using Centos 5.3 and acrobat reader 9.1.3 appears not able to print duplex
I tried multiple documents on multiple printers (configured via cups).
Thing is that evince (http://projects.gnome.org/evince/) does print duplex without issue. But some users need the advanced features of Adobe reader.
Document type properties print dialog box default is set to duplex mode "simplex", but they are not changeable, even not when acroread was started as root.
And the individual printer settings are set for duplex.
All that acrobat reader 9.1.3 prints out is simplex (single sided printed).
I looked for config files in /etc, but could not find it, would be nice if this could be set in a conf-file in /etc
    Thanks,
    Joost

  • Printing Duplex Pages, Single Page, Hidden Page Question

I have an 8 page form where there are several forms in the following format
    Page 1 - Single Sided
    Page 2 and 3 - Double Sided
    Page 4 - Single Sided
    Page 5 and 6 - Souble Sided
    Page 7 and 8 - Double Sided
What I would like to do is have those blank pages in the form hidden from the staff but to make them available for printing since we use our copy machines as printers and they print on both sides of the paper.
I'm attaching the form so anyone can see what I'm talking about.
    https://acrobat.com/#d=PI8bPrHtrPOXCPq41zlttw
    Any help is appreciated

It's probably on their Printer setup. Sometimes if you set print for duplex then another Operator comes in and uses the same printer and assumes it's simplex printing it can print duplex or whatever the previous print setting was used.

  • InDesign CS5 Won't Print Duplex

    Hi,
I have InDesign CS5 and a Laserjet 2605DN printer. I printed duplex pages using InDesign with no problem on my old computer (Windows Vista) but now that I have another computer with Windows 8, I not able to print duplex.
There's no two-sided option available in InDesign's print dialogue. I have to choose "Setup," where a popup states, "If the desired print setting is available in InDesign's print dialogue box, please set it there to avoid printing conflicts."
I can print duplex from Adobe Acrobat and Microsoft Word... just not InDesign. I've searched for solutions, but haven't found anything related to InDesign. I'm hoping someone here can offer some help.
I don't understand why InDesign wouldn't have a duplex option available in its print dialogue box like other programs do.
    Help, please...
    Thank you.

Okay, I read through a couple of "More Like This" posts mentioned on the right-hand side of this forum and one post mentioned setting the paper size as "Defined by Driver." When I checked my setting, I saw it was already showing "Defined by Driver." So, I changed it to "Letter." And that solved the problem; I'm able to print duplex now, thankfully. I hadn't even noticed the paper size wasn't showing letter to begin with.
Hopefully this might be of help to someone else now.

  • Cannot print duplex from Preview

When I use my Epson Stylus Photo RX680 to print a document in Pages, I can use the duplex setting to print on both sides of the paper; when I print a document from Preview, the duplex setting is unavailable—grayed out. I've tried opening a PDF in Acrobat Reader, but that has almost no flexibility in print settings, thus no duplex setting.
How can I print a PDF on both sides?

I don't have an Epson RX680 and regrettably am not familiar with that printer, but let me ask you a couple of clarifying questions that, if it doesn't solve your issue outright, will hopefully provide some additional info for other pro bono helpers here to guide their troubleshooting suggestions.
    1. In the print dialog box that presents the printer pulldown menu and presets pulldown menu, there is a button to the right of the printer pull-down with either a ▲ or a ▼ symbol. If it is ▼, click on that button to expand the print dialog box to reveal additional print dialog box configuration options.
    2. Underneath the newly revealed "Orientation" buttons, there is another pulldown menu that, at least on mine right now, has "Preview" selected. When you activate that pulldown menu, do you have a "Layout" choice? Can you select it or is it grayed out?
    3. If you can select that, some additional pull-down menus will be revealed, one of which is "Two-Sided." Choices within there, at least for me, are off, long-edge binding, and short-edge binding. Do you have those options and can you select any of them other than "off" or are those options grayed out?
    4. If you can get that far, then you should be able to click on the print button, in order to print duplex from your duplex-capable printer.

  • Printing Duplex

I'm using Vista SP1 and Adobe Reader 8.1.2. When I open a PDF (or an email) to print I click on 'Properties' in order to print duplex. Unfortunately Adobe just closes without printing. Has anyone experienced this? Any ideas on how to resolve?

Even though your printer may have set Duplex printing Your PDF may still not print two-sided.
Go to File menu > Properties and this Menu will appear: http://www.screencast.com/t/XUgbZiXX
Click on advanced tab. click on the Simplex Button and choose Duplex Long side or Duplex short side.
Why the heck adobe took it upon themselves to do such a dumb thing is unfathomable. What this does is override the printer driver's set up. You can set everything up in Printer menu until the cows come home and the earth finish its trek around Pluto, if this setting is not set it will not work. Adobe is the only and I mean only software company to take it upon itself to interefere with the print driver which supposed to  a system level function.
Once you get this over with then go to Printer click on Copies button and choose layout then you can setup how you want the pages to run.  whether you want 2 or more pages on a side and so  on.
