  • Printing to pdf on iPad IPhone

Why no printing to pdf in iOS? It seems such an obvious option for mobile devices?

I supose the question is directed at Apple rather than the world at large.
Why should I go and use another app? Why can't I just print to pdf from iOS Pages or Safari.
I see now that I raised the same question more than a year ago and also got all kinds of nice and helpful suggestions for "workabouts."
My question should be "Pages and Safari OSX have the option to print to pdf what keeps Apple from not applying that function in iOS?"

  • Printing to PDF=lose tags

When I print to the Adobe PDF Printer I lose tages in the PDF and cannot copy/paste text. This causes the text in my Kindle books and in the Amazon.com 'Look Inside' feature for KIndle and Paperback to show all text as symbols, numbers... Publisher rejects book.
What settings to use to maintain tags, normal text functions...
I want to Print to PDF to 'shrink to fit' the pages in the PDF so I do not have to redo all margins in the book in Microsoft Word.
This is only for the PDF output, then give to publisher; not for printing at home.

  • Does Apple plan on adding a print to PDF funcationlity to iOS?

    Hello,
I used Apps like Save2PDF for printing Webpages to PDF via airprint. But since iOS 5 it's impossible to print from safari via airprint to pdf.
I contacted the Save2PDF Support for getting an answer of my question "Why i can't print to pdf?"
This was the reply from Eurosmartz:
"Apple's latest release of iOS 5 has changed the way apps are able to interact with the device. This now means that the one of the printing features in this app for printing from other apps via the AirPrint method is no longer available. Apple's changes for iOS have removed this functionality for all apps - not just ours[...]"
Does Apple plan to fix this?

    Thx for your reply,
is there an another way to print webpages to pdf without internet connection?

  • How do I print to "Adobe PDF" with an encrypted pdf?

I've created a form in livecycle and I want the security to be set up as such:
    1) A password is required to edit the form in LiveCycle AND
    2) People can print the pdf to "Adobe PDF"
I've been able to create livecycle password access, but when I put a password on the LiveCycle Access (currently: Printing Allowed: High resolution, Changes Allowed: Filling in form fields and signing existing signature fields), I get this error when I try to print it to PDF:
    %%[ ProductName: Distiller ]%%
This PostScript file was created from an encrypted PDF file.
Redistilling encrypted PDF is not permitted.
%%[ Flushing: rest of job (to end-of-file) will be ignored ]%%
%%[ Warning: PostScript error. No PDF file produced. ] %%
How can I edit my form so I can do both.

It´s quite some time I was solving this.. but as I already wrote and I can somehow remember(as far I´m not working on this platform for 3 years): printing 150dpi is one thing - it´s printing like a simple pic. Printing in hi-res works in completely different way - pdf must be redistilled with pdf distiller or how it was called. Means, there must be additional step before printing the pdf form. Cant remember the details.

  • Print an Encrypted PDF

IN Leopard I could choose the PDF option in the Print Window and select Save as Encrypted PDF. This is gone in Snow Leopard. Does anyone know how to make an encrypted PDF without additional software? Or to edit that menu to include the Encrypted PDF option.
I did find you can do it in Preview via the Save As command, but I would like to maybe print a page from Firefox as have it become an encrypted PDF without going into Preview as a second step.
    x-.-x

It allows you to assign a password for opening the document, but I do not see an encryption option. Maybe it is encrypted when using the password option. I am not sure.
Thank you for pointing out the security options. Good to know those are there.

  • App "print to pdf" no printing to pdf possible since update to ios 5.0.1 / were ist the App in Appstore?????????

Why can't i print anymore with print to pdf?

If its an iPad 1, (easy way to tell is, if it does not have a camera, its an iPad 1) it cannot update beyond iOS 5.1.1.
However, you may still be able to get compatible versions of the Apps you want.
You will have to download the App to iTunes on a computer or another device that does support the App using the same Apple ID you have on your iPad.
With that done you can follow these instructions from your iPad to get a compatible version:
App Store: Install the latest compatible version of an app

  • How do I print to PDF in safari for iOS?

When I shop on my MacBook, I like to save my receipts as a PDF. This way I can easily search and consult them later, and don't have to go to the trouble of physically printing and filing them.  How do I do this when I make the purchases in Safari on my iPad 2? So far, I've only identified 3 options, none of which really meets my needs:
    1) Take a screen shot of the receipt page. This is unacceptable because the image file is not searchable the way a PDF is, and also because I can't always fit everything on one screen, meaning two images or more are necessary for one receipt.
    2) Make all my purchases through a 3rd party program like Print2PDF. Unfortunately, this means giving up use of Safari whenever I want to shop.
    3) Print out a paper copy of the receipt. Ick.
Is there a feature or option I'm missing? I just want to select Share > Print in Safari and be able to select Print to PDF.
    Thank you.

The PDF port is not sharable between systems, not even on the same machine. You'd need to buy a second copy of Acrobat for use in the virtual machine.

  • Print/Email PDF in iBooks

So, here is what the support page for iOS 4.2 & iBooks says I can do:
    Printing or Emailing a PDF
You can use iBooks to send a copy of a PDF via email, or to print all or a portion of the PDF to a supported printer.
Email a PDF: Open the PDF, then tap and choose Email Document. A new message appears with the PDF attached. When you finish addressing and writing your message, tap Send.
Print a PDF: Open the PDF, then tap and choose Print. Select a printer and the page range and number of copies, then tap Print. For more information, see “Printing” on page 44.
You can only email or print PDFs. These options aren’t available for ePub books.
However, I don't ever see the icon to actually do this. Does this functionally exist or is it just talked about? Is there supposed to be an iBooks update in the App store that I don't see? I'm just really confused, but could really use this functionality.

I've been trying to figure this one out too. Checking out the fine print on AirPrint is what crushed my hopes of using this feature. http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4356 Aparently printing only works with an AirPrint supported printer. AirPrint also requires the latest iTunes update. So if you do own one of the printers on the aparenly short list of HP printers try updating your iTunes, otherwise just curse Apple for being fraught with propriety, money grubbing, BS. Then go buy one of the third party apps for printing, something that should be standard issue, especially for a device like the iPad.

  • Preserving filename when encrypting PDFs in Preview

    Dear All,
When I encrypt PDFs using Preview in the normal way (Print -> PDF -> Set Security) everything works fine and the filename is preserved. However if I do this in Automator the filename gets given an alphanumeric name. I don't understand why this is. When I open that file, it asks for the password that I had originally set and it reveals the document.
My workflow is like the following:
Get Selected Finder Items (i am only selecting doc not docx)
Convert Format of Word Documents (to pdfs)
Encrypt PDF (Picked out from the Documet list)
    Move Finder Items (To desktop)
Quit Application (Word in this case)
All of the above seems to be just fine only that the filename gets converted to something else.
On the system.log file I get the following entries (hope this helps!)

    Many thanks in advance.

I played with the encrypt pdf action and it seems buggy. it can't replace the original (non-encrypted) pdf. instead it creates a temp file with a random alpha-numeric name and passes it to the next action. the way around it as i see it should be to first save the name of your word file in a text variable and after the encrypt action (or maybe after the move action) rename the resulting file. "rename finder items" doesn't seem to want to accept variables so you'll have to do the renaming via apple or shell script.

  • How to change the font and size in the fillable field of an encrypted PDF file?

    hi!
I’d like to change the font and size in the fillable field of an encrypted PDF file I-485 from www.uscis.gov/files/form/i-485.pdf
I’m using Adobe Acrobat Pro 9 in Windows XP. I firstly tried Adobe LiveCycle Designer, but the I-485 file requires password to be opened, which I don’t know.
Then I tried to print it to a PDF file, and use the Typewriter tool to fill in the form. But got error message while printing it to PDF file:
This PostScript file was created from an encrypted PDF file.
Redistilling encrypted PDF is not permitted.
The I-485 file can be exported to unencrypted postscript file, but got the same error message while trying to open the ps file.
I don’t know much about pdf file, can anyone please help?
    Thanks a lot!

Ask the creator of the file for a unprotected version.

  • [Solved] Is there a workaround for saving an encrypted pdf?

Hey guys, I've come into a bit of a quandry.  I needed to download a manual for my watch as I had lost the original.  As I have my system set up once I had downloaded the pdf my pdfviewer (epdfview) launched and I am able to read the manual.  However, I'd like to be able to save it for a later time.  When I go to 'File > Save a Copy' I get 'Error Saving File Document is encrypted'.  I have no idea why a manual would be encrypted but I am unable to save it.  If I try right-clicking on the browser and selecting "Save link as" it'll save it proper but when I double click it it asks for a password.  I suppose I could talk to tech support but figure that might take a while.
Just to be sure that I'm legit heres the manuals download page.
    http://world.casio.com/wat/download/en/manual/
Enter 3054 as the model number and try for yourself.
Any idea on how I can get around this and have a copy of the manual?

Can you use "Print to File" or anything similar to that? (The GNOME print menu has a print to file menu using cairo or something like that; there's also a generic Cups PDF printer from the cups-pdf package in AUR.) If you can print the PDF, you can create a PDF identical to the one you're reading.
This seems to work from stuff off that site.
(But actually, for me, I could also save the file directly, and get something I could open in evince, mupdf and zathura just fine without a password. I didn't try ePDFReader. What does this this direct link do for you?)

  • Can I "save as PDF" in iOS like I can with Mac OSX?

Is there a way to "save as PDF" in iOS? The functionality I need is available in Mac OSX through all print dialogs I've ever seen, like it is part of Mac OSX. I can't seem to duplicate this functionality in iOS, even with the addition of 3rd party apps.
Any suggestions? Is there a way to submit enhancement requests for Apple to consider in future updates?
All help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you.
    CurtR

It's not built-in to iOS, but there are a few apps that say that they can convert documents or web pages to PDFs (not that I've got any of them) - I just did a search for 'convert to pdf' in the store and got a few hits.
If you want to leave feedback for Apple then you can do so here http://www.apple.com/feedback/ipad.html

  • Encrypt PDF missing from menu?

Hello all. I'm having a slight problem here. When I go to the print screen in any application, and go to the PDF menu, The option to Encrypt PDF is missing. I have Yojimbo installed (http://www.barebones.com/products/yojimbo/), and in the menu is "Send PDF to Yojimbo". Did Yojimbo possibly remove these items? Can't see why it would. Anyone know how I can get these back? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Could be system corruption. You could try doing an Archive and Install:
How to Perform an Archive and Install
    1. Be sure to use Disk Utility first to repair the disk before performing the Archive and Install.
Repairing the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger.) After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior (4.0 for Tiger) and/or TechTool Pro (4.5.2 for Tiger) to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
    2. Do not proceed with an Archive and Install if DU reports errors it cannot fix. In that case use Disk Warrior and/or TechTool Pro to repair the hard drive. If neither can repair the drive, then you will have to erase the drive and reinstall from scratch.
    3. Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When you reach the screen to select a destination drive click once on the destination drive then click on the Option button. Select the Archive and Install option. You have an option to preserve users and network preferences. Only select this option if you are sure you have no corrupted files in your user accounts. Otherwise leave this option unchecked. Click on the OK button and continue with the OS X Installation.
    4. Upon completion of the Archive and Install you will have a Previous System Folder in the root directory. You should retain the PSF until you are sure you do not need to manually transfer any items from the PSF to your newly installed system.
    5. After moving any items you want to keep from the PSF you should delete it. You can back it up if you prefer, but you must delete it from the hard drive.
    6. You can now download a Combo Updater directly from Apple's download site to update your new system to the desired version as well as install any security or other updates. You can also do this using Software Update.
