Printing entire image in 4x6

I can't seem to print an entire image in a 4x6 print -- as soon as I select anything smaller than 8x10, it crops my image automatically and won't let me zoom out or move the frame using any of the built-in print options.  It's like iPhoto just won't scale down the image that far.  Any ideas?

If you want to print the entire photo onto a 4 x 6 stock you must select a custom size that is less than 4x6 but has the same size ratio or your original image.
For instance if your photo is 1600 x 1200 that has a ratio of 4:3 or 1.333.  A 4x6 image has a ration of 1.5.
Therefore select a custom image of that's less than 4x6 that has a size ratio of 1.333.  That will fit the entire photo on the stock you've chosen but will leave some white space around the photo.
Here's a photo that has a size ratio of 1.337.  Printed standard as a borderless 4x6 you'll get this:
But if you select a custom size of 5.35 x 4 which is a size ratio of 1.337 you'll get this:
So it can be done but just required a bit of math.

  • How to default Preview/Finder to print "Scale to Fit Print Entire image/Fill Entire Paper"?

    Hello all,
I have to print PDFs. Preview or printing directly from Finder prints scaling 100% and many many times the edges of the PDFs are left outside of the printing area. I have the correct paper size selected (A4) and actually the PDFs are also A4 but for some reason 100% zooms in a bit and cuts the sides of the print outside.
I can of course fix this by selecting Scale to Fit and Print Entire Image but I do have to do this every single time I open a PDF. I want to make this option my default! And preferrably so that I can use CMD+P from Finder to print directly without having to open the PDF. I already know what is in it...
I have tried different Terminal tricks I have found searching the web but no luck, this and others with Preview closed before executing the command
    defaults delete com.apple.Preview PVImagePrintingScaleMode
Please help and make my life easier. Cannot be this hard.

I got a work around for this. Instead of using RTF template, I used Microsoft Excel itself as template and did the formatting in excel.
    thanks,
    Vijay

  • - iPhoto won't print entire image -

    I'm running '11, 9.2.2
I've tried all the print settings & sizes, and I am not able to print an entire image. The image is always cropped, usually quite severly. 5x7 or 8x10, major crop. Only contact sheet setting shows full image. I have to move an image to Preview to print an entire image.
    What am I missing?

Obviously if a photo is larger than the size you are pirnting then something has to give
You can crop to the target size prior to printing so you control the coprring or you cn print and after making the setting on the first screen click customize and right click on the image(s) and select fit to frame to add white space fill so the entire photo prinbts

  • Print whole image on 4X6

I am printing flashcards via iphoto due to ease of use. Although the image is cropped and will not allow me to adjust the scale in the preview. How do I get it to print the image small enough to get it onto the paper?
Used to do this in InDesign but iphoto was just quicker to print. If I can fix this it would be perfect.

LOL. As mentioned before I used to set it up in InDesign and would scale the image down to fit on the 4 X 6. Yes it would make the 5X6 a 4X5, which would leave a half inch white bar on each side. But it did fit.
Keep in mind I am printing these as flashcards not as pics for a frame. These are for studying my art history and these image sizes vary and the whole image is important to my studies.
Anyhoo. thanks for responding. It does not seem doable in iPhoto. I went ahead and laid them out in InDesign and achieved what I wanted.
Oh and if the guy with a 38" waist were to slim down he could fit in a 32" waist. Although this analogy would require him to walk around in a 38" waist which would of course need a belt.

  • Officejet j6480 sometimes not printing entire image: printer or software problem or conflict?

Dell Inspiron, windows xp-pro, version 5.1 sp 3,
    software: microsoft digital image 2006
I've been using digital image (DI) for several years and have never encountered this issue before now, but my printer is new and has some features I may not entirely understand.
I've created 4 separate images for a t-shirt transfer using DI.  2 images each are set up on an 8.5 x 11 layout, landscape mode.  They were "cut out" and placed on each layout for printing.  On my monitor, each image is a complete image: ie, no part of either image is missing or blocked out.  However, when I print the document, sometimes part of one image doesn't print.  The actual printed piece looks like an object or "blank" box was placed on top of the sheet of paper before printing, printed, and then taken off the printed paper leaving no ink beneath it.
DI allows you to cut out a photo and use the cut out with no background which is what I've done. The cut out follows the line of the object, dogs head, for example.  The edges are not straight as if in a frame, however when the object is selected for editing, a dotted frame does appear around the edge.  More than one object can be selected at one time and there can be an overlap of these frames, but once the object is deselected the frame disappears.
What really has me baffled is that the missing part of the image is squared off on two sides, is always in the same spot on the paper, completely different documents print the same way, you can see where the edge of the missing piece printed, but very light in color, and the document does print out correctly, sometimes.
Sorry to be so long winded.  I'm trying to preserve the transfer paper since it is expensive and don't want to chance an incomplete printed sheet having to discard it and start over, hoping "this time it will work!"
Does anyone have any ideas?  I know it sounds like a software problem but it also sounds like a printer problem, or both.

Hello @rslade , and welcome to the HP Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience!
I see you're having problems printing in colour.  I would like to help!
Do you have any issues making a colour copy, as opposed to a print?
I would suggest deleting the printer from your print system, using this document: Uninstalling the Printer Software.
Once you have deleted it, I would suggest verifying and repairing the disk permissions: About Disk Utility's Repair Disk Permissions feature.
I would also suggest running your Apple updates:  OS X: Updating OS X and Mac App Store apps
After the updates, I would recommend reiadding the printer:

  • Centering the image on 4x6 paper.

Still trying to print an image on 4x6 paper with a border and I cannot center the image. It makes no difference if I hit the "center" button.
I've gotten the latest Epson drivers for my MAC (Lion).
Also makes no difference if I "crop to fit", or not.
The image and borders look fine on the computer screen, but will not print what the screen shows.
    Anybody have any ideas?
    Richard

I did that; makes no difference. Still gives me no border on top, and 3 differenrt size borders on the other 3 sides. Makes no difference if I click "center" or not.
It looks perfect on the computer screen when I "center" it, but it doesn't print the way the screen show.
It also makes no difference if I click "crop to fit" or not.
I'm using PSE 9, on Lion MAC, with Epson 1280 printer.
It seems like the most basic thing that a PSE program should do is to center a print. In the past I've used this same printer with Photoshop, and no problem.

It depends upon the capabilities of your printer. If you have an HP printer with a photo tray then the Photo app will print to whatever size you load in to that tray.
    There's some more information here:
Using AirPrint to Print Various Photo Sizes
With other printers the user is given a choice from the printer's loaded paper sizes. You can see an example of that here:

  • Printing Multiple Images 4x6 in CS4

    Hello Folks,
I use LR 2.0 to edit my photo images and want to print a "batch" of edited 4x6 images all landscape using CS4 on my Epson 2880 printer. However it seems that all I can print is (1) image at a time, is this true?
I've read a help file on printing using "automate" and selecting a folder of images which I have tried but there is no template for 4x6 images. I tried to create and save a new one that is 4x6, but that will still not work, only able to print one image.
    Can anyone help with this?
    Thanks for any info provided.

    I hope that's a typo, Jim.
You really want different images on one and the same single 4x6 sheet of paper?? !!  I don't think so…
If you mean, multiple prints of the same image, just input the number of copies in the printer driver dialog box.
If you mean different 4x6 images on a single, larger sheet of paper (say letter-size). then Picture Package is exactly what you want.  See this link in order to learn what must be done to restore Picture Package to CS4, as that functionality, present in CS3 and earlier versions, was removed from the default installation of CS4.

No, I don't think so.  But Google might help, if it's at all possible to automate Picture Package completely, down to the level of selecting sets of three images succesively (to fit on an 8.5 x 11 sheet, letter size).
Use keywords like Photoshop picture package automate script to search Google.

You could also make a contact sheet with these settings (note the layout on the right side):
On a mac you can save this contact sheet and then just switch out the photos next time. (I did a horizontal layout but you could also do a vertical one by changing which number is where.)

    Hi @jimmanning ,

Run a calibration on the printer.
On the printer touch the wrench, system setup, print quality, color calibration calibrate now.
Print a Diagnostics Page to see if you have the same results. Trying to determine if it is a hardware or software issue.

  • IPhoto Doesn't Print Full Image

Odd problem here. I'm having trouble printing my images at 100%. For some reason that I haven't been able to troubleshoot, when I try to print an image from iPhoto, I lose a half inch or more of the photo around the edges. This happens whether I choose 'borderless' or not.
When I bypass iPhoto altogether and use my printer software, this cropping issue doesn't exist, but I prefer some of the options iPhoto offers.
By the way, I'm running Mac OSX 10.5.8-haven't yet updated to iLife 09.
    Any suggestions?

Since your image is probably in the 4:3 size ratio (from a digital camera) you will have to select a custom size in iPhoto's print window. If you're printing to 4x6 borderless stock select a custom size of 3x4 or 4x5.33 (to get the max size on the 4x6 stock.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier versions) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. There are versions that are compatible with iPhoto 5, 6, 7 and 8 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
NOTE: The new rebuild option in iPhoto 09 (v. 8.0.2), Rebuild the iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup" makes this tip obsolete.

  • Scanned doc will not print entire page

I have a scanned document in Acrobat 7 using File -> Create pdf from scanner.
    Scanned at 400 dpi color.
The document is a printed table with a few handwwritten redlines on it.
In Acrobat, it has 4 "images". One is the entire document and three are the handwritten areas.
When I print, it only prints the handritten "images".
I cannot get it to print the entire document.
I have tried on two different printers and three different computers.
Have not changed any of the Acrobat or scanner prefs from how we have always done this.
Tried using with Recognize text on and off. Same thing.
    Any ideas?
    TIA

Chris...go into the Advanced section of the Print dialog and choose Print As Image...this will hopefully give you the results you need. Good Luck!

  • Printing multiple images on single page

Can anyone explain how to print multiple images on the same page such as 4-4x6 photos? Or the same image more than once on a page - similar to the N-up option in iPhoto? Anything new and helpfull for printing in 1.5? Thanks.

No, it isn't what we're looking for.
Let's take the example of a professional portrait photographer (me? ) trying to set up a home-lab with a wide format, roll printer.
    I get an order for, say, 2 4x5 of image 1, 2 4x5 of image 2, 4 5x7 of image 3. I have 10" paper loaded in my roll.
What I would want to do is gang the prints onto 3 "units" - the 4 4x5 on one 8"x10" unit, and 2 5x7 on each 7"x10" unit.
Since my clients ordered specific sizes, I need to make sure I get the prints sized exactly right (contact sheet tool doesn't let me do this) and since printing is pricey, I want to make sure to waste as little paper/ink as possible. I also don't want to get stuck doing a lot of trimming.
So, in lightroom, photoshop, imagebuddy, portraits-n-prints etc, I would just ask the app to output the package for me. In Aperture, I'm stuck. I can't use the book tool because it uses a (moronically) fixed page-size. I can't use the contact sheet tool because it doesn't let me specify image size/aspect ratio. I can't use the "standard" print tool because it only prints one image per page.
This is a glaring omission, and a slap in the face to the professionals that Aperture claims to see as its target audience.

  • Help printing multiple images

I have all my images stored in Aperture. When I try to print (output/print image), I get a nice print dialogue box. I do not seem to have the option to print multiple images on a single page. With XP, there was a 'print wizard' that would allow me to choose a paper size, and then fill that paper with images (ex. 3 x 4x6 on a 8x10). I would also use MS Digital Imaging Suite to print multiple images on a single paper.
I am somewhat new to the Mac experience, maybe I'm not looking in the right place.
    Please help me with this

While I am not familiar with Aperture, the print dialog box for Preview should be quite similar. If you have the full options showing, by clicking on the expansion triangle near the top right, the option to print N-up will be at the bottom of the dialog box. In order to do that, you need to have more than one photo selected for printing., of course. Then you should be able to adjust the layout and size of your photos.

  • How to print from Image Capture Scan Overview

Image Capture 2.1.4, on Powerbook G4, with Mac OS 10.3.9, can take an Overview, low-resolution prescan from my scanner. I could then choose to print the prescanned image.
This allowed for a fairly convenient copy facility, but with preview before printing.
No image save was necessary or desired.
With Image Capture 4.0, on Macbook Pro, with Mac OS 10.5.5, print of the prescanned image includes the entire Image Capture panel (Scan mode, bit depth, resolution, format, etc.)
Why do I want to print all that?
Is there a way with Leopard to set Image Capture to print just the scanner image without the panel and without image save?
    Thanks,
    Wrekngcrew

I wish I had an answer...I'd like to know how to just print something from Image Capture instead of generating a file, then having to print it from Preview....
