Printing Envelopes Other Than #10 with HP LaserJet 4240 Envelope Feeder

I'm trying to use an HP LaserJet 4240 and an HP 75-sheet Envelope Feeder to print envelopes from FileMaker Pro. HP's specifications for the envelope feeder note that it accepts "various sizes of envelopes." However, we are unable to specify any size other than #10 envelopes in the print dialog box. #10 envelopes print just fine, but choosing a different envelope size (like C5) in Page Setup and attempting to print brings up an error message saying that only #10 envelopes can be printed and asking if the document should be scaled to fit that size envelope. If you agree and continue printing, the printer shows "Service Error" on its display.
The workaround I've used so far is to put text out to the very edge of the #10 margins in FileMaker and just load larger envelopes. This leaves too large a margin, however, and I'd really like to be able to print to the actual size of a C5 envelope.
I've tried specifying a letter sized sheet of paper and setting the paper feed to "Envelope Feeder" but the printer is smart enough to know that letter paper can't go through the feeder and asks to specify a different tray.
Has anyone succeeded in specifying a custom envelope size that will print via the envelope feeder? I don't want to have to manually feed envelopes into the printer as that's why we purchased the envelope feeder in the first place!

Does finder support an "edit" choice like "open" other than "open with"

I would like to know if I can configure finder to provide an "Edit" link (or choice) other than "Open with".

To differentiated, for example, given a file like "myproject.pl" (a PERL script).
"Open" would run the PERL program.
"Edit" would open an editor with "myproject.pl".
I realize that doing an "Open With" and selecting the editor is not that big a deal but I was looking to short cut that.

Upon purchase of my iPad 2 I began saving contacts to my IPad Contacts application that is already set up upon purchase of iPad 2.   I then learnt about synching ( push ) my Gmail contacts to the Ipad 2 contacts 'exchange'.   I did this happily and was very pleased with the results however when synching the first time I chose not to delete my iPad 2 contacts I had began saving upon purchase.   This meant upon opening 'contacts' I had three choices 'iPad contacts', 'Exchange contacts' or 'All contacts'.   There is no way to save ipad contacts directly to the 'Exchange contacts' it has to be saved into a file or vcard and then imported in using e-mail or a PC.
A few days in to using push/exchange I also added calendar and notes to the push/exchange as I was happy with the contacts and e-mail.   I did notice some glitches since doing using push/exchange although I think it began when initially I began pushing contacts/mail there may be a slight chance that it began when I turned on calendar and notes facility to the push/exchange. The glitches that began meant sudden blinking during or after saving in calendar, contacts and notes.   Sometimes this would mean the item added was there but also sometimes it would mean that it was not.   Also double entries began arriving on both m iPad and in my Gmail Contacts online.   These were a mix of contacts that I had and had not not created or edited since acquiring my iPad 2 so the was no pattern or obvious reason.   They were all also a mix of contacts from different groups saved in my Gmail contacts.
Today suddenly whilst adding a contact the contacts blinked shut again.   I re-opened to see what had happened wondering if my contact had been saved or not however not only did what I add not get saved but all approx 500 contacts from both my iPad contacts and my Exchange Contacts vanished from my iPad 2.   I opened and closed the contacts to see if they would return but there was nothing.   I also hibernated and then later shut down and restarted the iPad many times to no avail.   I checked my Gmail Contacts account and thankfully all my contacts were still there.   However, it was still extremely frustrating to have everything vanish from my iPad and then not just come back from there especially as he e-mails and calendar seemed to be still working fine with Exhange/push.   Also, why had the contacts saved to the IPad contacts directly vanished also ?!!   For a £800 gadget not including accessories it really is unacceptable !!!
Finally what worked for me was going to 'Settings', then going to 'mail,contacts,calendars' and then selecting the 'exchange' account and then switching 'contacts' to 'off', then I selected 'delete' iPad contacts i.e delete the contacts saved in the iPad contacts group however with nothing there to lose this time and having a feeling that perhaps that may have contributed to the issues/glitches and this contacts vanishing I clicked on the 'delete'.   I really do have a feeling that perhaps the issues may have been due to having two sets of contacts even though there were only a few there in the iPad before they vanished along with the Exchange contacts.   I clicked 'done' and then I didn't hibernate the iPad 2 instead I shut it completely down.
Upon restarting my iPad 2 I went to see if the contacts had returned but unfortunately once again they had not.   I returned to 'settings', then 'mail,contacts,calendars' and then selected 'exchange' from accounts and switched 'contacts' back on i.e enabled this once again and clicked done.   I then once again switched off ( shut down ) my iPad 2 and waited a while.   Upon restarting I again went back to contacts and found some of my contacts finally arrive but not all.   My 'push/'fetch' for exchange is set to every 15 minutes and every push/fetch showed me more and more contacts until finally I had all but one which has still not showed up !   However, I am once again happy and this time I only have one contacts group I.e for exchange and no separate iPad contacts to confuse me or iPad.   I don't know if this will mean all will be okay now as I do feel like perhaps I cannot now trust iPad contacts and maybe need to print out everything and keep this on me also just in case. I'll keep you posted !

I have the Verizon P265 remote. I would like to set it up to work with my stereo system to be able to adjust the volume but I noticed that only TV codes are included in the code list. Is it possible to use this remote control with devices other than TVs?

Your best bet for a remote to do what you want is to try to find one of the Verizon 4-button remotes or buy a programmable remote. Verizon lists their 4-button remote on this site for $11.99:

I don't know if they really have any they will sell you though, but I guess it can't hurt to try.
Many people think that Logitech Harmony remotes are very good, although I think they are pretty expensive.
Another option might be, if you don't want to buy a remote control, to reprogram the P265 to control the volume on the STB rather than on the TV. Then you could set the voume on your stereo system to a reasonable level and adjust the volume on the STB. The little instruction booklet that comes with the P265 describes how to do that.

Printing in Adobe Reader 9 with HP Laserjet P1006

I am having trouble printing in the newest version of Adobe Reader 9 on my HP LaserJet P1006. I am able to print to a shared HP LaserJet 1320, but not the P1006. I am able to print from Word 2008 and Firefox 3. This makes no sense to me.
I have "reinstalled" both Adobe Reader and my printer driver, though I'm not sure how "uninstall" the driver. But, I did do a reinstallation of that, and am getting the same results.
Any ideas on how to:
1. Uninstall the printer driver
2. What may be going on?
I have read that a few other people have had troubles printing within Adobe Reader on Leopard, but everyone uses different printers. I'm guessing this may be a Leopard compatibility problem with Adobe reader and the HP driver??

What is a text symbol, what does it do (other than mess with my doc)?

I am working with FM8 in Tech Comm Suite 1 on Windows XP.
Some of my docs have text symbols sprinkled liberally throughout the text. I know you can select the option not to view the text symbols, but they still show up in FM and PDFs and RoboHelp and play havoc with the spacing.
What are text symbols?
What purpose do they serve?
How can you make sure they aren't inserted when creating a doc?
Is there any way to get rid of them easily?

To clarify, text symbols are one of FrameMaker's visual guides that can be optionally displayed in a FrameMaker document window to indicate the location of something else. A text symbol appears as a special character, but never prints or appears in PDF. However, the represented object may indeed affect the way the published document appears. As explained in the FM 9 User Guide, there are text symbols for an end of paragraph, end of flow, tab, anchored frame, table anchor, marker, forced return, equation alignment point, nonbreaking space, discretionary hyphen, and suppress hyphenation. You turn text symbols on and off with the View > Text Symbols command. Doing so does not affect the content of your document; it just helps you locate where the represented objects occur.
Thus, the problem you are having is not text symbols per se, but the object represented by a text symbol. As others have commented, the tab character can produce the observed results. Viewing text symbols can help you locate the tab characters. While tab characters can be inserted automatically in an autonumber or, in a structured document, in a prefix or suffix, they can also be entered from the keyboard, by pasting, or by converting a document that contains them from another format. You can find tabs that are not automatic using Edit > Find/Change. Type \t as the text you want to find. If you wish you can do a global change to remove all the tabs in the document or change them all to spaces.

Separate into print colours other than cmyk

Hello.
Here's somthing I'd like to try in various printing procedures that don't necessarily provide their own rip (silkscreen, risograph), so my question in general and in theory: Is there a way to seperate a colour image (rgb, lab, or even cmyk) into a combination of something like some Pantone 3945 C, 300 C, 192 C, 7407 C, 806 C and some intense Black? Knowing of course that with such a combination, the resulting colours wouldn't be quite true to the orginal, and that both mentionend printing techniques will result in somewhat unexpected results particularly when in need of a raster for six colours. But the same question goes for simpler combinations. (And of course, with the inention to have something at least remotely similar to the original, converting a greyscale image to doutone (tritone quadtone) is not really an option.) An additional question would be where and how to rasterize (would those producing the films for the silkscreen know how to? What if they don't? And what about the risogaph?)

Can't print anything other than a test page from the embedded web server

Hi all
I have two computers hooked up wirelessly to my HP C410b All in one printer. One computer works fine and prints everything. The other one did until this weekend.
The one printer that will not print will print a test page if I go to the embedded web server and print a test page but if I try to print anything else - even a test page not through the embedded web server - it fails to print. It does not give an error message it just states print failed.
The computer shows alerts for the printer like when it runs out of paper or ink so it seems like it's connected but it just won't print.
I've tried unistalling all the software and printer and reinstalling but it still has the same problem.
Anyone any ideas???

Since the installation of the last version of iMoviei I noticed that the creation of a sharing file is only in mp4 type. Is there a way to create, for ex a mov file??

If you share to iTunes you get an .m4v. Maybe you can open this in Quicktime and convert to .mov.

Can I use a browser other than Safari with iMac?

You may still be able to use Safari, all you need to is:
Safari > preferences > advanced > click on show develp menu in menu bar. Then when you get to one of those site, click the Developers Menu and choose Internet Explorer.
Chances are the content you have is designed for Internet Explorer, choose I.E. in the menu bar and you should be OK.

Can I publish to somewhere other than .Mac with iWeb?

I've been looking into switching away from .Mac when my account expires this time, for various reasons, one being price. Is there a way that I can use iWeb to publish to somewhere else, most likely an FTP server. If so, any reccomendations as to what server, I am doing researhc now to find a good, dependable one.
