Printing error incompatible cartridge

I have a HP D2568. I have replaced the black cartridge with the correct cartridge recommended by HP and it comes up and tells me that the cartridge is incompatible. Does anyone have any suggestions as to why this is happening?

I am dealing with the same issue on an all in one Photosmart C4580-  using the correct ink cartridge that I bought when I purchased the printer, Black 74.  I'm pulling my hair out!  Any suggestions?

  • Printer says "Incompatible Print Cartridge"

I have a HP Photosmart D110 series..  I bought it yesterday and when I first started it, it worked fine until I went and registered it..  Now the printer says Incompatible Print Cartridges and refer to status screen on my computer for details. So I logged in and the computer says this "Cartridge(s) are not intended for use in this printer as it is currently configured.
See printer front panel for information on resolving this condition."
SO my question is what do I do since they are both referring back to each other????
    Thanks

If you haven't already - call or chat with support.  Sounds like the wrong cartridge might have gotten in the box or you might be using the printer in a location HP didn't expect it to go (different country).  Possible have your computer set to another country.  Supoprt should be able to help you sort it out.

incompatible cartridge message started on HP 4500, relaced both HP cartridges, couldn't clear. Bought a new 4630 with fresh HP cartridges, and when I powered it up before running setup, incompatible message reappeared. Uninstalled 4500 from control panel, ran 4630 setup and still getting incompatible cartridge message.Help!

    Hi @soie,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I noticed that you are getting the incompatible ink cartridge error with your HP Photosmart c4780. I am happy to help!
Most likely by the description of your post, this printer is setup for the European Market, instead of the U.S. Market, hence getting this error message. You can try going through this guide, HP Photosmart C4600 and C4700 All-in-One Printer Series - A 'Cartridge Problem,' 'Cartridge Failed,'....

  • HP Officejet Pro 8500A not printing from black cartridge

  • Officejet pro 8600 plus. Error message: cartridge missing or damaged

Just installed a new printer head to the tune of $120.00. It came with set-up cartridges that you are required to use. Installed new  printer head and cartridges. Now I get the error message of cartridges missing or damaged. I have taken out the cartridges and printer head about 5 times and still get the message. Do I dare try using my old cartridges (which were actually brand new - more $ wasted)?? how can I run a business without a printer, scanner, and fax?!?

I'm having the same issue.  We also had this issue with the original 8600 we purchased (that one only used the demo cartridges before giving the lovely "cartridge missing" error).  The first one was still under warranty, so we had to send it back to HP and get a replacement.  In the meantime, the office was without a printer.  Now, the second 8600 has managed to last through about 8 cartridges (approximately six months) before the same issue arose.   It's even with the same cartridge:  magenta.
I've changed cartridges, removed the print head and cleaned it, cleaned the contacts on cartridge, the print head and even where the print head connects to the printer, and even removed the little white plastic guide wedges and switched them around to try and troubleshoot the situation.   I've rebooted it repeatedly and briefly contemplated banging it vigorously on the sides to beat it into submission.
Alas, it is still showing the error.
I wish I could say I'm a novice when it comes to troubleshooting, but I regularly work on printers and other components.  It is truly frustrating to have a product which does not perform well and which does not easily allow the user to rectify the situation without resorting to a sledgehammer or wine.

  • Psc 1315 printer error message

After printing one document, on the next one the printer slowed considerably. Since then the Check Printer light is blinking and I was getting an error message (no longer getting message, light is blinking and it just won't print).  The cartridge had been fine.  I have done the trouble shooting process including installing a recently purchased brand new cartridge just in case with no luck.  I do have some problems getting my Word program to work properly and wonder if that can be part of the problem.

Hello,  Please try the below steps...
1.Click Start button on the Computer .
2.then click on Control Panel .
    3.then Printers and Faxes
    4.On top-left, click on Add a Printer
5.Click on Add a Local Printer
6.Then while "Use an Existing port" is selected , select "Virtual USB port ... " then click Next
7.from the Manufacturer list, select HP, and then under Printers list select Deskjet 990c" , then Click next and complete the wizard
Now try printing . It should work.

  • Printer error messages

psc 2170 all in one printer, error message "remove and check cartridge" this has appeared for no obvious reason when I now switch on. I have removed and cleaned contact points on both cartridges and printed to no avail so would be most grateful for any suggestions that might help.

Hi - Did you clean the contacts in the printer (carriage) as well?  If not, try that to see if that resolves the problem - Step 5 in this document.
If that doesn't resolve the problem, the next step is to replace the cartridges (one at a time, in case only one of them is bad).
    Hope that helps.

  • J4540 "Borderless Printing Error"

I'm attempting to print a booklet, side-fold brochure.  My paper size setting is Borderless 8.5X11.  I've printed this brochure many times before using the exact same settings with no problems.  However, when I tried to print today, I had only a black ink cartridge installed; I got an error message reading "Borderless Printing Error: Borderless printing cannot occur with only the Black Ink Cartridge installed. To print a Borderless Photo, install either a tri-color print cartridge, or a photo print cartridge."
Even though the brochure I'm printing is black & white (and it was set on "print in grayscale"), I did have a new Officejet 901 Tri-Color Ink Cartridge handy. So I installed it and received a message that the new cartridge had been detected.  Then I scanned the sheet to align cartridges.  The printer said something like "Installation successful".  However, everytime I try to print this brochure page, I still get the same error message:  "Borderless Printing Error: Borderless printing cannot occur with only the Black Ink Cartridge installed. To print a Borderless Photo, install either a tri-color print cartridge, or a photo print cartridge."
I tried re-starting, unplugging, etc., but I can't get it to print -- even though I'm using the same settings I have before. I went online and tried printing a couple of color pages and it printed them out just fine -- so the color cartridge is working. Not sure why I keep getting this message.
I'm no expert on this stuff, and any help/advice would be appreciated.  Thanks a bunch,
    Jason

I wish I could help you, and I'm unhappy to see that you put this message up in April and have no response yet.
I too get this "cannot print" message - not that the cartridge is missing, but that I cannot do borderless printing with ONLY the black cartridge. I have the color cartridge installed, I've done prints of the same pages before, and I cannot seem to get the printer (HP Photosmart C4780 wireless) printer to work when that message comes up. I'd love to get some help from HP.
Some things I've tried. On my iMac I shut down all applications that are not necessary, and relaunch my finder. I think that clears out its brain a little. Then I'll try to print again (It just worked - same exact page).
Also, sometimes I open the HP Utility and ask it to print a test page. That also seems to clear it's brain. After that it worked also.
I think there's a sometimes "glitch" in the program. Cleaning things out as much as possible, and starting over again seem to help.  GOOD LUCK!

  • Bought in error 300 cartridge instead of 301 for deskjet 2544

can computer be programmed (via drivers) to accept this cartidge of do I haggle with the retailer to change the cartridge?
Can this deskjet use 300XL cartridges?
    Thanks

    Hello @eiresaor,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
I understand that you purchased an HP 300XL cartridge for your HP Deskjet 2544 All-in-One Printer but the cartridge is not compatible. I would like to assist you today with resolving this issue.
The HP Deskjet 2544 is compatible with the following cartridges only:
The compatibility varies by region. No other cartridges will work in your machine.
The HP 300XL (Part Number: CC641EE) is only compatible with the following machines:
Therefore, you have two options to resolve this cartridge compatibility issue.
Option 1:  Speak to someone at the store that you purchased the incorrect cartridge from and see if they're willing to swap the incompatible cartridge out for one that will work with your HP Deskjet printer.
Option 2: You can also contact our Technical Support queue by phone to explore cartridge replacement options. If that cartridge is an HP Genuine Cartridge and you explain to the Technical Support Agent that you accidentally purchased the wrong cartridge for you printer they may be able to swap the cartridge out for the correct cartridge for your printer.

  • HP photo smart 7520 all in one printer error. B8867448.

Screen flashing. Message "printer error. There is a problem with the printer. Turn the printer off, then on". When it is turned off, then on, the blue Hewlett Packard screen flashes with B8867448, then it returns to error message.
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

June 18, 2014:  My HP7520 Photosmart isn't so smart.  Error B8867448 shows up in blue screen and then an error screen shows up:  Printer Error.  There is a problem with the printer.  Turn the printer off, then on.
I called HP service and went all the way up through a supervisor to the "higher authorities" in India.  I am a valued HP customer so they are giving me a very very special offer.  We unplug it for a minute and get the same problem.  The cartriges are also stuck and won't move.  They say this is the source of the hardware problem.  Then he states it is a "hardware" problem.  Really.
After several conversations with the "supervisor" he gets my phone number and calls me back from his "personal office desk" with a very very valuable offer that is not available to all customers.
They can only offer a discount on the printer, which is similar to Amazon.  I bought it for $138.85 (tax included - it was $129.99 before tax) over a year ago at Best Buy so the warantee is out of date.  He offers an HP Photosmart 7520 for $149.99.....?? - after I mentioned my original purchase price, he dropped it to $127.91.  I save a dollar.
    But get this!!!!
    Cartridges are for free.
    Free shipping and handling.
    3-warantee for free.
Still, my old computer has to go in the trash - stuck cartridges and all.
The new printer will be tested TWICE by HP "itself"!  Now that's confidence for me!  I why the double testing??
    Reason:
It is a reconditioned printer, by the way.  I don't like that and patiently mentioned it was not a sufficient offer:  $1 discount from a new printer.
Now they are offering $10 off the reconditioned printer.  I state that this is still not sufficient.
The phone rep tells me 100 printers are sold to Best Buy and 80 are delivered (what does that mean?!)
Just because the box is opened due to a long shelf-storage doesn't mean it is a bad computer.  They test it again since it's old so now it's tested twice and will work for me perfectly.  They are 100% sure the printer will work for me and this problem will not happen again.
If the problem DOES happen, they will provide free shipping and a free replacement.  (wha-huh??  did I miss something there???)
He says I can go to website:  www.hp.com/recycle.com - log onto this website and I can recycle the printer without throwing it in the trash!!!   Such a deal!  I don't feel any better.  Trash is trash as far as I'm concerned.
I replied:  "Your offer is not satisfactory to me" and once again I'm on hold.  Hold time to this point is over an hour.  Sigh.
I'm finding that replying "Thank you but your offer is not satisfactory to me." in a calm voice gets me a little teeny weenie bit further in price reduction, but not worth the bother.
He talks to his supervisor and says they know I'm not happy.  So now I get it for $86.10, with free shipping, cartridges and a 3-year warantee for free.
How do I return it?   I call them and they send me a label.  I have to save the box and repack it.  I can also return the printer after 14 days.  What if I can't repack it properly with all the parts, etc????  He says to stick it in the box and mail it.  That's easy I guess......
This is just as good as a new one, even though it is reconditioned.  This is the best offer they can give me.
"Would you like to go for it?".   It is not refurbished, it is reconditioned.  The difference is there are no cosmetic defects with a reconditioned printer.
I insist on a free replacement.  He goes off to talk to his supervisor once again.  Silly, eh?  I stay calm and patient and it might work!  I mention I love HP and have always bought HP products.  They are documenting everything, he says.  Then I wait again.  He has my number and I'll get a phonecall back from his higher authorities within 24 hours.
I confirm - he's in India.  Yay.  He if there's anything else he can do for me.  I reply that would simply like my printer replaced.   He wishes me a "beautiful day" and says "bye bye" and hangs up.
Incredible.  I'm throwing it away and buying an Epson -810 or a Canon Pixma - consumer reports recommended printer.  I hear the trash truck so I'm taking my printer out to the trash (in a nice new trash bag).  I won't buy another HP printer again - ever.
Hope this helps.  Sorry if you have the same issue.  Final time of calls with Indians:  2 hours.  OMG.  **bleep**.  I give up.

Tried all the 3 stages of troubleshooting, was also confronted by Another ERROR message in the email that I tried in vain to send to HPsupport because I couldn't remember the product #.This is why I'm forced to go on this page in a last desperate bid to get answers to why my printer won't go any further than this confounded error message on the screen. Also my phone doesn't work so I can't ring them!

    Welcome to the forums
I understand you have tried some troubleshooting for the printer error you're seeing. I am going to give you all of my thoughts and suggestions for this issue.
A 'Printer Failure' Message That Might Include an '0x610000f6' or '0x61xxxxxx' Error Code Displays o...
Also: Ensure the printer is plugged in directly to the wall outlet, avoiding power bars and surge protectors. This ensures the printer is receiving full power and may help greatly.
    Removing the ink cartridges.
    Unplugging the printer.
Dampening a lint free cloth or cotton swab with bottled water.
Gently cleaning off the electrical contacts from the cartridges.
Waiting for the contacts to dry.
Re-seating them back in the printer.
    Plugging the printer back in.
If the troubleshooting does not help resolve your issue, I would then suggest calling HP's Technical Support to see about further options for you, such as a replacement or trade in.
