Printing even borders / margins from PDFs created in Indesign

Hi,
I am having trouble printing images with even borders / margins - from my Epson R2400 inkjet printer.
In Indesign I have set all margins to 5mm along all edges. Then I export the document as an A4 PDF.
When I open the PDF using Acrobat, the margins appears OK and even - same as in Indesign.
When I print it, from Acrobat, the print then has a thicker margin on one side than the other. I have the same issues when printing from Indesign - except printing from Indesign is about 1000 times slower than printing from Acrobat!
Does anyone know of any way of preventing printing PDFs with uneven margins?
Any advice much appreciated!!! I'm wasting alot of paper and ink trying to print using different printer settings.

Desktop printers will always be somewhere inaccurate. It’s just something you need to live with.

  • Problem when printing from PDF created by InDesign

    Ok, here's the scenario!
I have a flyer, created in InDesign. I have drawn a grey curve (in InDesign) which goes at the top of each page.
I import a transparent logo in PSD format, and place it on top of the grey curve.
In InDesign and when I PDF it, it looks fine (at any zoom level).
However when I print it, there is a slight outline around the transparent logo and it has a slightly different shade of grey as its background (it stands out from the curve).
Does anyone know why this could be?  I also tried importing the logo with the same grey background as in InDesign but the same problem occurs.
    Any help appreciated!

If you can't select composite CMYK it means your printer isn't postscript, or you aren't using the postscript driver option if one is available.
Since this is a printer-related function, not a property of the file itself, you don't want to do anything to your pdf to compensate. That's the printer's job, if necessary, when he processes your PDF.

  • PDF (created in Indesign CS4) separates in CMYK, in stead of PMS

I have sent a PDF, created in Indesign CS4, to the printer. I need the design to be printed in PMS colors, but the printer says the PDF color separates in CMYK, not PMS colors.
I'm at my wits end trying to find where I went wrong (I should add I'm a beginner at all this). I need help...
    Here's what I did:
I have changed the colors in a CMYK based design of a business card to PMS colors. I have changed the colors of an Illustrator file that is used in the design to PMS colors as well.
When I look at the separations preview it looks fine, only PMS colors.
I then created a PDF, using the [High Quality Print] Adobe PDF preset. In Output Color Conversion is set to 'No Color Conversion'. In the Ink Manager 'All spots to process' is not checked. CMYK inks are visible in the Ink Manager, but so are the Pantone Inks I used.
I noticed one strange thing, the swatch options for Pantone Process Cyan C are different thatn those in other PMS colors, the Colortype is 'spot' but the Color Mode is CMYK, greyed out so that I can't change it to Pantone Solid Coated. Even weirder, I can't delete that strange swatch. I tried adding the pantone colors to my swatches again, in a different file, I added Pantone Cyan C and it looked fine, but when I reopened the swatch options it was strange again.

Yes, I have added cropmarks and page info to the pdf.
I checked the separations in Acrobat Pro with a friend. Both Pantone colors and CMYK show up. When I disable the CMYK, nothing of the design disappears (cropmarks and page info don't disappear either, they seem to be in both Pantone and CMYK).
I saved a new pdf, without crops and page info, and CMYK still shows up in the separations.
I'll contact the printer tomorrow, I'm pretty sure he should be able to use the file I sent him.
Thank you all for your help!

  • Two page display of pdf created in InDesign CS4 js

Hi, I need to set page desplay for pdf created in InDesign to two page view and I couldn't find anything like that in OMV. I assume it will be setting preferances for Matadata. Would you be able to help me.
    Thank you.
    Yulia

    @Yulia:
You can set all "open"-options with Acrobat Pro and you can automate this with a batch process under "Advanced => Document Processing => Batch Processing".
Also there is a way to do that through pdfmark instructions inside a placed EPS. Documentation for doing a "Two-Up (Cover page)" with pdfmarks is not available in the pdfmarkReference_v9.pdf for the PageLayout-tag. And of course you have to use Distiller to get the pdfmarks working, no chance doing that trick with PDF export.
Here is the pdfmark-code for an EPS you can work with (found and adapted it from the "PostScript & PDF-Bible" by Thomas Merz and Olaf Drümmer):
    %!PS-Adobe-3.0 EPSF-3.0
    %%BoundingBox: 0 0 72 72
    %%EndProlog
    /pdfmark where {pop} {userdict /pdfmark /cleartomark load put} ifelse
    [ {ThisPage} << /Trans << /S /Dissolve >> >> /PUT pdfmark
    [ {Catalog} << /PageLayout /TwoColumnRight >> /PUT pdfmark
    %%EOF
Save the code as a plain text file with the ".eps" suffix. Place it on any page you want to print of your InDesign layout, write a PostScript file and distill it to pdf. You should get a "Two-Up" view when opening it in Acrobat.
Meanwhile (after doing a little research on the web) it seams that all possible "/PageLayout" parameter pairs are indeed documented, but not in the pdfmarkReference_v9.pdf, but in the PDF32000_2008.pdf on page 73:
SinglePage     Display one page at a time
OneColumn     Display the pages in one column
TwoColumnLeft     Display the pages in two columns, with odd-numbered pages on the left
TwoColumnRight     Display the pages in two columns, with odd-numbered pages on the right
TwoPageLeft     (PDF 1.5) Display the pages two at a time, with odd-numbered pages on the left
TwoPageRight     (PDF 1.5) Display the pages two at a time, with odd-numbered pages on the right
    Default value: SinglePage.

  • The thumbnails/previews of PDFs created in InDesign CC look dull or cloudy in Bridge CC

The thumbnails/previews of PDFs created in InDesign CC look dull or cloudy in Bridge CC. The actual files are fine and open with the correct rich colors, but the colors don't look as vibrant as they should when viewing in Bridge. It's only PDFs that are affected. The InDesign thumbnails/previews display correctly in Bridge.
This was not happening when I was using CS6. This is only a problem since the upgrade to CC.
Any help you could provide would be appreciated. Thanks!

If you're going to mess with the registry
    - create a restore point http://windows.microsoft.com/en-ie/windows7/create-a-restore-point
    - backup the registry http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/back-up-registry
I absolutely plead with all my heart - don't start changing registry entries unless you know what you're doing - or ask your IT department to take a look.
If you don't have an IT department, then source a good professional that can make these changes.
If any way unsure - then under any circumstances, - do not mess with the registry.

  • Color problems when printing from PDF created in Pages

I have created a newsletter in Pages, and have used the Export > PDF so that the file can be sent to a professional printer.  One of the graphics (created by an outside graphic designer and put into my Pages document as a jpg file) prints in all sorts of bizarre colors - nothing like how it displays on the screen.  Is there some sort of color formatting that I can do to make it print in the correct color?

The Pages pdf will have many more problems than this case of mismatched color profiles.
Unless you really know what you are doing avoid using Pages for commercial output. For a start all your bitmaps will have been rendered to a too low 72dpi resolution.

  • Cannot copy and paste from PDF Created with Distiller 9.0

    Hi,
Can anyone tell me why I would be havingissues with copying/pasting from a PDF created w/ Distiller 9, as opposed to Distiller 8.x?  I don't use Distiller myself, it just looks like this was what the creator of the document used.  Is this a possible copyright protection that's been built in?

I can select text, but oddly enough it seems to automaitcally select random text - I can't select line to line.  It randomly selects parts of all paragraphs at once.  I'm very certain it's not an image.
I also checked to see if there were any security features that might be preventing copy/paste, and found none.  I even compared it to an older edition of the document (which we can select text from perfectly), and none of the security features were any different.  I would send this PDF to you, but I am in a heavily regulated work environment that doesn't allow for outgoing attachments or uploading.
If you have any other ideas, please let me know.  If not, I really do appreciate your help.
    Thanks.

  • PDF created in InDesign -Field Visibility Issues in LifeCycle

I am working with pdf versions of brochures created in InDesign/Illustrator etc.  I am adding two simple fields to these forms and in the past it has worked easily. I have an image field where a logo can be uploaded and a text field next to it.  Behind the image field I have always used another text field visible on screen but not in print That simply states, "place logo here".  This A.M. I had an update from Adobe that installed and now if I designate the field as visible on screen, it prints.  This is the simplest of forms and I am wondering if I may have inadvertantly changed a setting somewhere along the way that has deactivated this option.

  • Copy and paste text from pdf tablet to indesign cc 9.1

Is it poosible to copy/paste from a PDF (created from an exel-fil) into an inDesign-dokument without getting all the tekst into the first cell??
(Paste without formatting is not avaible)

If it's behind something else then you can open it in Illustrator and select the specific object you want. If it's rasterized then no.
If this is a document you can share with the world then I'm sure we could tell you what specifically is going on if you posted it here.

  • How do I add to a pdf created through InDesign?

I want to add some more text to a book cover that someone else created in InDesign. They only gave me a pdf. What's the best way to do it? Also, the new text has to be a specific yellow Pantone color.
    Thank you!

Place that PDF in a new InDesign document and add your text over the top of it...  To create the specific yellow colour use the swayches panel and menu.

  • Linking data from PDF form into Indesign CS6

    Hello all,
I'll be working on a magazine which has a large section of day camps technical descriptions :
name, contact info, location, short introduction text, activities icons (they have to choose up to 5 icons from a total of 12)
Is it possible to link data from a fillable PDF into predetermined and prestyled text boxes in Indesign CS6?
Would it be necessary to export in an Excel sheet prior?
What would be the best trick in order for the icons to place themselves automatically, if possible?
    Thanks in advance

When placing a PDF into InDesign, it's a flat piece of art for each page included. There's no way to manipulate form fields or work with links or anything like that.
The data from the form would have to be collected and converted into an Excel file for placing into InDesign. (Collecting data from PDF forms and converting the Excel format can be done in Acrobat Pro.)

  • Copying text from PDF created using print to PDF function in OS X

I use a MacBook Pro with Mac OS X Lion, and Microsoft Word 2008 for Mac and Adobe Acrobat Pro.
For some reason when I use the Print to PDF function to export a PDF of a Word document, then open it with Acrobat Reader or Acrobat Pro 9 and try to select text and copy it then paste it into a word processor (include Word 2008) the resulting text is gibberish. It looks like some sort of encoding issue, but I can't understand that, since it's all happening on the same Mac! I have also tried to do this with Preview as the PDF reader but I still get gibberish.
The issue first started occuring with Snow Leopard, and all software is patched, but no dice.
I've attempted to work around this by using all of the different PDF options under the print dialog, and by saving the doc as a PDF, but I still get the same thing.
I've also tried copying and pasting the text int Pages, then saving it as PDF and trying to ready it .. again, no luck.  I was able to output the file directly from Pages to Preview and save it from there, but it really doesn't seem like this should be necessary, given that the functionality is build into the OS.
Anybody else have experience with this? I have just one user that needs to copy and paste text from the doc, so it's a real pain to have to maintain separate PDF and Word versions.
    Thanks!
    D

    Rishi,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
After reading your post, I tried to duplicate this problem. I opened a PDF, selected a sentence, then copied it to the clipboard. I then opened Pages, selected the blank template, then pasted in the text. It pasted perfectly.
Does this problem happen with all text in a PDF? With different PDFs?

  • Printing a PDF created in Indesign results in blurry text.

    Hello All,
I am in need of assistance.
I have created a flyer for one of my companies products in In-design.
When I print the project directly form In-design the print looks great and the text is nice and crisp.
However, when I export the project to a "Press Quality" PDF, and print it the text comes our blurry and "dirty"
I have been trying to fix this for 2 days now with no luck.
I have tried multiple different setting during the export to PDF form In-design, all resulting in the same issue.
What is strange is when I print the PDF in black and white the text look just as good as if it were printed directly from In-design in colour.
I looked around online and found allot of posts regarding this issue but no definitive results.
I have also checked the colour of the text and it is 100%K.

    What color is the text?
Can you show some screen shots?

  • Text missing from PDF created in Excel

I have been creating a pdf file from an Excel spreadsheet for many weeks but last week the pdf file suddenly stopped displaying text in one corner of the screen:
But the missing text does display in Print Preview:
The font is consistent across the whole document and I cannot find any reason why this text will not display in that corner of the pdf.
Does anybody have any idea what is causing this and how to fix it?

The problem is actually caused by the following update for excel which was rolled out on Dec 14, 2011.
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2596596
Here is some more discussion about it:
    http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/nl/exceldev/thread/dec1c975-16b1-4b42-af44-a019740 bc910
The hotfix should be coming soon, but for now you can simply uninstall update KB2596596

Hello, I'm working with CS4 and I need you to click on a button, or from a "hyperlink" in a text, open a pdf file but for a given page.
I can not change the target pdf and also I have to access a single pdf into multiple pages, put an example

person two speaking in pdf 1, on page 15
I wish that when you click on the person 1 opens pdf 1 on page 14, and when you click on the person 2 opens pdf 1 on page 15

Thanks, I had not noticed in the new dialogue coming out. Thank you very much. A greeting.

ohhh, no, the page references are to an indesign document, not a PDF
I have not indesign files where you created the PDF to which I have to jump and I can not add bookmarks to pdf, pdf files are protected.
