Printing fails, says low toner on old Laserjet

Under Fedora 15, Firefox will not print to HP Laserjet 6MP connected to JetDirect EX Plus3. It says low toner. Other programs print successfully, CUPS control panel also says no toner left.
However I believe this 12 year old printer/jetdirect combo has no way to detect or report toner levels.

If its an old cartridge even if it's new there is an expiration date built into the cartridge. Try a new one and on the box check the date.

We have a 6 month old HP 2800 Business Inkjet. Replaced the black toner cartridge, now the printer will not print. When we print a job, we receive error message Intervention needed, low toner. CM6040 MFP - LOW TONER MESSAGE FROM PRINTER TO COMPUTER WITHOUT ERROR CODE OR COLOR

The printer is sending "low toner/ink" message to whomever prints. The printer shows no error code on the display and prints fine. The message the printer sends to the computer does not indicate what color is low. We all operate on Windows 7 which we just upgraded to a few weeks ago. Like I said, the printer continues to print fine and does not display an error code on the display but continues to send this annoying message everytime one prints. Any ideas on what is causing this message?

HP Laserjet 1100 - print fails

I have an OLD HP Laserjet 1100 which I used to be able to print from fine on my old XP (SP2) machine. I have recently set the printer up on a new laptop running XP (SP3) using a parallel to USB converter. It's using the same drivers. However, now, whenever I try print I get an immediate message saying "Print failed". Doesnt give me a reason. Just won't print!! If there is anyone out there who can help me I'd appreciate it!

Hi there. This is funny, or sad really. I have the exxact problem. When it doesn't print it says this printer is not connected.
That just can't be. What about firmware? While nosing around the HP site I noticed it says firmware needs to be updated.
I'm not sure how to do this.

Hp m551 low toner report- long print time

Our hp m551 usually prints really fast - the second we hit the print button. But lately it is giving me low toner report for the black cartridge on the LCD. It keeps flashing this over and over. But it says it is time to get a repalcement read and not necessary to change the cartridge yet. It is so annoying. I already know this. It's been reporting this low toner for months now.
The last couple weeks when we send a file to rpint, it will take forever to print one page. It think s for 15 mintues before finally printing. I think it has asomehting to do with this low toner report constantly flashing.
The other issue I have is that the product specs say that the toner that came pre installed with the printer should yield 5500 pages black or 6000 color pages. We print very lightly on this printer and I think we have only printed about half that amount. So I don't understand why the toner should be low so soon.
Can someone please help me with this problem?

Please complete all of the steps in the following document; Printer Does Not Print Black Ink or Color Ink, or Prints Blank Pages. Although I hope this resolves the issue, it might not. M476dw no longer prints in Econo mode is this due to low toner level?

I have an M476DW AIO color laser printer.My black cartridge reports "zero" remaining pages available, but still prints fine, so i have been waiting till the toner is "really" gone to install the new cartridge. I have been printing most documents in "econo mode" using less toner, but yesterday econo-mode seems to have stopped working ... Does anyone know if this is this an intentional design feature? I.E. econo-mode is disabled on low toner level to improve print quality, or do I have something else going on?I've made no changes to my settings / system.... Thanks,jim

You can access Advanced Boot Options by turning on your computer and pressing the F8 key before Windows starts.
Then choose system restore to go back to a previous status if you have a restore point.

Getting old Laserjet printers to work with Windows 7

Hi Everyone,
For those of you, like me, that may have an old Laserjet 4, 5, or 6 I figured out how to get it to work with Windows 7!
First, new computers do not have LPTx ports. So, when you first set up your Laserjet you MUST select a USB port - this is the main problem with getting your old laserject to work on a new computer. MY computer dispalyed USB001 and USB002. Since I have another HP printer installed using USB001, I selected USB002. You will also need a Pararellel to USB adapter cable - you can buy one on Amazon (I paid just $11.87).
Next, when selecting a printer driver you MUST select HP, NOT Hewlett Packard. Scroll down until you find Laserjet 4,5, or 6. NOTE, if you don't see these models, click on the Windows update button in the dialog box. NOTE: This may take a few minutes to display the updated list. Again, select HP and scroll down the list of drivers until you find your model Laserjet (Laserjet 4, 5, or 6).
At this point you should be good. Just finish the install process and make sure to print out a test page.

On a HP Officejet Pro L7780 All-in-One printer, is there a toner and where is it located? I've looked in Products and Supplies and don't see it but my printer is saying that it's low or empty.

By now, you have probably discovered that the L7780 does not use a toner but cartridges. It actually uses 4 HP 88's. They are black, magenta, yellow and cyan. Usually, black is the first to be replaced. They can be found at Staples, Office Depot and Best Buy.

PDF Printer fails to create document

I have Adobe Acrobat 8.1.2 Standard and today suddenly I cannot create a PDF file from Word 2007. It will create PDF files of up to 5-6 pages but when I try the file that contains 657 pages it will only go to page 90 before I get this error message: Adobe PDF printer failed to create the PDF file.
I have tried this a couple of times (shut down computer in between each try) and every time I get the same error at the same page. The last attempt was 2 1/2 hours ago and I still have the little Acrobat icon turning circles in my toolbar. Can anyone tell me how to correct this problem?
I am working on a Dell Inspiron E1505 running Windows XP SP2. I bought Acrobat back in May and this is the first time I've had a problem with it.

Hi DJ, what is on page 90 (or 91) that is keeping the PDF printer from completing? Any half tones in any graphics? Any intense tables? Graphs?
Have you tried just making a PDF from that one page? Drill down to the page that is causing the problem, try removing one element at a time, printing to PDF, until you discover what one element is creating this issue.
We had some snow flakes with gradient half tones in one of our documents that was causing an issue much like you are experiencing.

PDF pagination works find in Reader 8, but failed in lower version 7.

Here's my situation
One dynamic PDF form:
Contents in subforms are flowed layout. And for every section (e.g. Chapter 1, Chapter 2 etc) in pdf, create "New Page" to make sure that they start their contents in seperate new pages, not following the previous flowed content.
The pagination for Flowed content in subforms works ok.
But the pagination for "New Page" only works in Reader 8 and failed in lower version 7.
Any clues?

Adobe Reader 9 can't save the old FDA forms. FDA must update their forms.

Photo print at too low of a quality

I am trying to make a book, and have all my pictures set, but since they are from the computer and not my personal pictures, they each have that yellow warning that says photo may print at too low of a quality. I am wondering if Mac can change it, since I don't want to spend the money to have the book printed with blurry pictures. They are all zoomed out the most they can be, and I tried everything else.. Welcome to the Apple Discussions. What are the pixel dimensions of the photos you're using? Which theme are you using and which frames do you get the warning sign, i.e. full page layout, 2 photos per page, etc.
iPhoto will give that warning when the dpi of a picture in a particular frame is below 180 dpi. So for a full page photo you'd need pixel dimensions of about 1600 x 2070 or greater to avoid the warning flag.
Unless the photo is way below that minimum size I don't think it will be significant enough to be objectionable. But that's just based on my experience. No matter what size you use the photo will not be as sharp as you can get by printing them yourself on glossy photo paper at equivalent sizes.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

Acrobat X on OS X 10.6.8 Printing Fails

I am printing to an Epson Stylus Photo 280, and have installed the lastest Epson Printer Update 2.7 via software update.
Whenever I try and print the printer starts to make noise, but then the printing fails and I get the following error message every time:
"Error: /Library/Printers/Epson/InkjetPrinter2/Filter/rastertoescpll.app/contents/MacOS/rasteroes cpll failed"
I can print any PDF using preview, but nothing prints via Acrobat X. Any PDF I try instantly fails.
Does anyone have any ideas on this, as bascially this makes Acrobat X pretty useless.

There are just too many variables...too many printers out there. Among the dozens of people who will read the post, almost all will be running other printers or other configurations.
You might see if there are any Epson user forums to finder other users of that printer.
