Printing from CS3 to Epson R2400

I've been very happily printing from Photoshop CS3 to the Epson until today and now it just point blank refuses to do so. Connections between the printer and computer are ok because it prints from other software programs. But when I try to print from CS3 it draws the paper into the printer and then stops dead and opens up a dialogue telling me the job is stopped and nothing will coax it into resuming it. I've tried clearing all other jobs and turning off the printer and rebooting the Mac but nothing. I haven't even bothered with the manufacturers because I just know everyone is going to pass the buck to everyone else. Any suggestions for what I can try to fix this?
Thanks
Geoff

A year later I found this posting ... I am having the same problem but from CS3 to HP Deskjet 1200c on a G5. Worked fine for years, now print jobs stop every time. I have replaced the driver, deleted and added the printer, unplugged and replugged all cables, restarted the computer, output to a different printer, etc. This is a USB connection. After poking around for help on the HP and Apple sites, I tried printing from different applications. Apparently, the problem is only with Adobe applications, having tried both InDesign and Acrobat. Printed fine out of Thunderbird, Firefox, and Word. However, I then tried printing out of both Firefox and InDesign from my MacBook on my wireless network. Both printed fine! So the problem appears to be Adobe applications on my USB connection. Is there one little setting I'm missing?

  • Printing from CS3 since Raw 4.5

Since installing Camera Raw 4.5 printing from CS3 with an icc profile has improved greatly - but, when printing using custom size the sizes come out wrong.
The windows all look fine - including the preview window, but the the print comes out with only 1/4 of the page printed or printed as a portrait orientation instead of landscape.
After wasting several sheets of 17x24 inch paper it seems that the custom size must be entered as the printer width rather than the width according to the orientation - ie. for printing landscape on 17x24 inch paper I had to enter the custom size as 17 inch width x 24 inch height. And then I had to choose user defined for the margins (but used the settings for Epson stylus pro 3800).
After that, choosing landscape orientation in page setup & in the print dialog did the trick.
Before installing the new Camera Raw 4.5 if the setup was wrong it would be wrong in the preview window.

    I'm running OS X 10.5.4 on a Mac Pro with 2 x 2.8 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon & 4 GB 800 MHz DDR2 FB-DIMM Memory (I installed the latest security update this past week).
I updated to ACR 4.5 (thru adobe tech help) after installing the security update. I've been using Epson driver 6.10- beta version for Mac OS X 10.5 for several months with no problems.
Seems to me that ACR 4.5 previews stated that some printing issues would be fixed with this upgrade, along with support for more cameras, and support for linking to CS3 from LR2.0.
It is possible that the security update affected printing from Adobe CS3. Several months ago there were serious problems printing from Aperture & Lightroom that were "fixed" with an OS X security update. Some of those problems were printing size & orientation problems, as well as incorrect color. I checked printing after this latest security update, but not with custom sizes.
I guess I'll have to do some further investigating to determine what exactly is causing the current problem & find a workaround. I'm not a computer expert - I'm a photographer. And I'm getting weary of having to find fixes for things that should have been handled by the development staff for the various software products that I'm using - plus, it gets expensive when paper and ink are wasted - very expensive when printing to large custom sized paper. And very bothersome when you cannot depend on what you see in the preview window as to print size nor orientation.
Anybody else out there with similar problem with the latest upgrades?

  • Printing from CS3 after export from LR2  (Mac OS X) blurry / undersaturated

    Hi all,
New to the forum and it might be with a question which already has been answered but I really could not find it, so here's my try.
Recently bought a Canon 50D and Pixma 4600 and started shooting pics (RAW) of my newborn kid. After importing and basic processing (WB, exposure, noise) in LR I exported pics to CS3 in various ways (TIFF 16 bit, DNG, Original file, different DPI, up to 500 etc.) and did some detail work over there.
After printing from CS3 all pictures look slightly blurry, undersaturated and underlit. Did a lot of trying on all settings (IP4600 profile from CS3, saturated, relative. etc. etc.) and when finally comparing identical pics printed from LR and CS3, the detail and overall quality of the LR pics is much better.
Any help would be greatly welcome as I cannot imagine being the first one with this problem and because I am convinced that it should be possible to print very accurate and brilliant images from CS3.
    Overview of equipment :
    Canon 50D
    Imac 20", 2.4 GHz 4 Gig memory
    Pixma IP4600
    LR 2.1

Thank you all for your help, understanding and kindness,
    Michiel

I'm just going to say "wow", because this worked for me.  I was ready to chuck the printer out the window since I've tried virtually everything in every other single thread here, and nothing has worked. I had my doubts about d/ling the European driver, but it completely worked.Thank you!!

  • Printing from CS3

My background - Windows PC user for years. Reasonably competent with Photoshop CS3 (Windows).
Just bought new iMac with latest OS (Leopard). I like most of what I see so far but still very much in the learning curve stage. Have bought Mac version of CS3. Main printer is Epson R2400 but also use Canon Pixma iP8500 and both worked fine with PC.
I had a number of files set up in a folder on my Windows PC which involve an image of 7.5" x 5.5" centred (on A4 canvas) and then framed by a thin 1px border of 10" x 8". These are for a particular task I perform and they need to be like that. Copied these on to Mac.
When I print out on A4 photo paper on either printer the whole image incl. the border shifts about 0.25" towards one end - i.e. in portrait mode it shifts up the page. Also, the long sides of the border don't appear, but the short sides do. I have reduced the size of the border slightly and all 4 sides then appear which indicates that the printers are not printing up to the edge of the paper which of course they are capable of doing. I sometimes need to print right up to the edges of paper.
    Responses from suppliers as follows:
Apple helpline - they said contact Canon and Epson and they will send a download for Mac operation. Nothing to do with Apple.
Spoke to Epson, they say maybe a download will work (they told me which one) but they say it's to do with the CS3 software. Download had no effect. Not spoken to Canon yet but suspect the same will happen.
Apple store - I go into local store for tuition and one of their people uses same gear as me and doesn't have this problem with it. Suggested uninstalling printers and reinstalling. Tried several times - no joy.
I'm going around in circles here. Solution maybe a blinding flash of the obvious - I hope so.
By the way, in the printer dialogue box that appears as part of the PS printing process I have got "centred" checked.
I realise that Macs will have different screens to PCs but am I missing something here in the Mac print dialogue boxes? My first impression is that there are not as many options there as with PCs but I may be wrong.
    Help please!!
    Bob

Print driver vary from Mac to Windows...on Mac, by default, many drivers have an offset in the page margin built in. So, even checking centered in the Print dlog of Photoshop will result in an offset. What you need to do is go into Page Setup and make a new paper size and make sure all 4 borders of the margin are the same. With Epson, many printers have a top and sides that are .13 while the bottom is .56. Make all four .56 and you will get centered prints. Newer printers like the 3800 from Epson already have 4 equal margins set to .13. The R2400 doesn't...

  • CS3 / Leopard / EPSON R2400 issue

    Hi Everyone,
I'm a design professional who is pretty dumb when it comes to color management.
I have an EPSON R2400 at home and have never gotten it to print right. I had CS2
and had all kinds of problems with it, and have since upgraded to CS3. Over the weekend I upgraded to Leopard and now the prints look horrible. They are really light and have a posterized look to them. I have installed the new EPSON driver that is Leopard compatible. Can anyone walk me through what I need to do to get great prints?
    Thanks, Mark

Just purchased a Mac Pro 2x2.8GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon. 16GB 800 MHz DDR2 FB- DIMM
In the past I have been running my Epson 7600 direct from my PC. printing from Q Image and Photoshop Lightroom 2 with fantastic results.
It has been frustrating to find out that the Leopard Driver version 3.09 from Epson will not work regarding positioning the image on the sheet (using roll paper). Epson and Apple do not seem to want to help, even Epson state on their site that the printer driver is not a full featured driver for Leopard.
I then discovered Gutenprint, I have downloaded the driver and have my Mac conected via USB I am printing out of Photoshop Lightroom.
This has corrected the image positioning problem, the only problem now is the I am getting poor colour, can you tell me if I can still allow the the printer to manage colour ? in the Lightroom settings I have tried different settings to no avail.
My files are profiled for Adobe RGB 1998.
If anybody could let me know if they have managed to have the new Epson Driver 3.09 work in their workflow it would be very much appreciated, or maybe they have gone down the same track as myself with the Gutenprint driver .

  • Can't print from Mac to epson nx300 on Win7, even with networkmagic

I've spent days going over forums and can't seem to get this working.
My main computer runs Win7 Home Premium x64 with an epson NX300 printer attached to it by USB. I have been able to print to it from another windows xp laptop.
I recently bought an iBook running OSX 10.5.8 and cannot for the life of me get it to find the printer on the network.
I've tried using SMB as outlined here http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3049
and using LPD as outlined here http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7performance/thread/bd920e46-d beb-4bb2-a38e-8791facd0608
I run NetworkMagic on the Windows machines and also have it installed as trial on the ibook, and it says that the printer is not installed and I can't install it from there either. Called their tech support and they shrugged their shoulders.
I've downloaded drivers directly from epson as well.
When I try to add a printer from the "print & fax" window using the "Windows" button, it recognizes my workgroup and pc name but then says "connection failed"

Print Drivers on OS X aren't the same as on Windows...
You can't use an Epson driver made for USB-only Epson printers, because they wrote the driver to only work via USB. To use the CUPS Windows printer protocol, you need a driver written to use CUPS. The Gutenprint drivers Apple included in OS X are CUPS drivers. An update is here:
    http://gimp-print.sourceforge.net/MacOSX.php
If your specific model isn't yet supported, try other model drivers.

  • Printing from iPhoto to Epson Stylus R1900-Lack of Layout and other options

I have just begun using my MacBook Pro for photo use, and also just acquired an Epson R1900. When I print from iPhoto to the R1900, I can only print 1 photo per page. The usual Epson screen which has an option to change layout, e.g., to multiple photos per page does not appear. If I try to print from Mail the usual Epson screen does appear. Why not in iPhoto like it always has in the past on my iMac when printing to my previous, Canon i950? This is a major concern to me since my wife likes to keep our photos as multiples per page in a scrapbook. I'm using iPhoto '09, vers. 8.1.2., and OS 10.5.8, and the latest update of the Epson driver for the R1900 which claims to be fine with OS 10.5.8.

Well, I found how to get to "Settings." There is a button in the photo area entitled "Customize," which leads to a screen with various options on the bottom, one of which is "Settings." If I click on that I get a small dialog box including the option to select "Multiple Photos per Page." So far it looks like I need to do some very tedious custom sizing to get, say, 4 photos on 1 8x10 page. There is a "Layout" button on the "Customize" screen; however, it only wants to give me horizontal or vertical page orientations; or ones which have the option of adding a title underneath. In the past, if I choose multiple photos per page (or "N up") I could then choose how many: 2, 3, 4, etc photos per page and the program sizes them accordingly. I still get that when I use my old iMac with iPhoto '05 to print to the Epson R1900. Works nice and easy.
Also, I'm confused by the fact that iPhoto '09 does not allow a "Page Setup" file command. This is making it difficult for me to get the photos oriented in a way that they will fit in groups. So far, iPhoto '09 is proving to be very awkward to work with compared with my past experience with iPhoto '05.

  • Accurate color print workflow IDCS6 to Epson R2400 w/X-Rite Custom Profiles - Mac OS X 10.8.1?

    Hello Folks,
I am trying to get accurate color out of InDesign CS6 on an Epson R2400 using custom created profiles with X-Rite i1 Profiler in Mac OS X 10.8.1. on Epson Papers. Has anyone had luck with this workflow? I am also looking for the same with the Epson R3000.
I have been scouring the web for more than a week for updated info and some insight but have been having a hard time finding solid step by step settings I can follow and get accurate output. I end up with either too light/washed out prints or too dark and saturated prints. I've already blown a complete set of inks and tons of paper and time toiling with this one.
I'm looking first for how to verify that Colorsync settings are accurate for my needs, updated color settings in InDesign CS 6 and Epson printer driver settings with Epson inks, Epson papers and their downloadable profiles at least. If I can get that to be semi close I can then attempt to use recently created custom profiles for individual papers to really nail my output.
I have used the most recent X-Rite i1 Profiler (1.3.1)/Gretag MacBeth i1 Proof UV-Cut spectrophotometer with new and older iMacs, Mac Pros with Cinema displays, the new Retina Macbook Pro's and CS6, 10.8.1, Xerox 7760 and Xerox 8570 and have accurate color. I have calibrated the monitors/screens, the Xerox printers with different papers and no problems with output.
For some reason the Epson workflow is being a complete tool. I have completely removed the Epson printer folder etc. as per Epson's uninstall information and downloaded and reinstalled to to present. Any help would be extremely appreciated. My wallet and sanity thank you!

  • Problems printing from Aperture using Epson R340

I have an Epson R340 and happily use all the paper settings such as Glossy print from Photoshop to the printer. Having now installed Aperture I find I am not able to do this. I have reloaded the Epson drivers but still not able to do this. To elaborate when I press Print image from Aperture I go into Print settings - and find that the following items have a line through them - Print Settings, Colormanagement, Printoption and Extenstionsetting. This is not the case when I look at the menu via Photoshop. Can anyone help me on this.

I have an Epson R320 and all the Epson's printer driver options are available to me in Aperture. My list is slightly different: Print Settings, Color Management, Page Layout Settings, and Extension Settings with the words separated by spaces and each has a capitalized first letter.
I'm wondering if Aperture isn't seeing your Epson driver files. You might want to remove the Aperture plist file from your User>Library>Preferences folder and relaunch Aperture.

  • Color cast when printing from Lightroom with Epson 3880 printer

Just got an epson 3880 printer. Printing on epson paper is fine. But printing on Ilford or Moab or other papers from lightroom and photoshop have a terrible magenta color cast.
WHen I print the same image from Preview, with the same print driver settings, it looks fine. So somehow the adobe apps (or my settings) are messing up the color sync.
I used to have an espon 2400 which worked just fine.
I have Mac OSX-10.9.1. Monitor is calibrated. (Prints to epson paper with their profiles look great...it's just other profiles that are really bad).
    I need help!

Are you using moab icc profiles or are you using one of the epson profiles?
I always use the moab profiles which you can download from their Web site. This way you are matching the specific epson printer with the specific moab paper.
At that point you change the printer manages color to Lightroom manages color and select the specific profile. Very easy to do - they even have instructions on the Moab site for installing the profiles if you haven't done that.
Once installed you can also use them through the system print dialogs in PS but it is really much much easier to use in LR - Since coming on board with LR last summer, I have switched to doing ALL printing from LR. Since you mentioned that you are having the same problem with LR and PS, I'm betting you are using epson profiles and this will solve your problem.
    Hope so
    Tom

  • Color Shifts printing from CS3 Apps

I just loaded CS3 on my system (Mac OS 10.4.10, Dual Core Intel Xeon). I have an OKI5300 laser printer. I sent my client a pdf generated through Indesign, and we are both experiencing the same problem: severe color shifts in our print-out. Indesign prints color correctly, but both Acrobat and Photoshop (I recreated the design in Photoshop by copying and pasting the elements into it) were severely out of balance. However, Acrobat 6 professional, which I still have on my system, printed the original pdf file perfectly. Your suggestions on what to do about this problem.
    Mary Moore

Problem resolved! I called in to support, as my CS3 package was brand new, and the CS rep figured it out. When printing from Acrobat 8 to a postscript laser printer, the program has a default setting in the print window, under advanced/color profile that says something like Color management by print device. He suggested I select No Color Management, use source profile. This I did and it worked. I think generally Adobe has, in the software, pretty good color management, so letting the software and not the hardware manage color is likely the best choice.
But you are likely right as well, i may also have to synchronize color spaces between software and devices.

  • Printing from iPhoto on Epson CX6600

Well I have tried printing photos using my Mac for the 1st time since I got it, and I am having terrible trouble.
I have installed the Intel Compatible Epson CX6600 drivers on my Macbook. I am using Tiger 10.4.8 and iPhoto supplied with the Mac with all the latest updates. Printing from iPhoto (and actually the GIMP) is proving problematic. 1stly is seems to be difficult to orient my pictures to fit 4x6 photo paper and crop in so there are no white borders and also to print the right way around.
Secondly, the print quality when I finally do print is terrible. The colors are washed out, it's grainy and there are faint lines in the image. Oddly enough, if I print using Windows (parallels) the image quality is perfect. However since I have chosen iPhoto to organise my photographs, it'd be nice to use it.
I see two issues. One is that the paper size is not shown correctly in the drop down. I get a choice of letter, legal, A4, A5 and then a bunch of codes like W665GH45 or something.
Second issue is there does not seem to be any 'print quality' option, as I am sure that this is the issue. The image comes out with a print quality similar to "Draft" in windows. In Windows you can change this to high quality or photo quality easily, in OS X I cannot see where this option is.
    Thanks in advance for help.

    Anyone?

    please advise.  thank you....

I'm having the same problem with my HP Z3100 in Windows 7 64-bit
The kludgy workaround is to choose a different printer from the "Printer" drop down list at the top, then re-choose the printer you wanted in the first place.
But at least you don't have to quit Photoshop to start printing.
(Careful - your choices in color management may change to defaults when you re-choose your printer.)

  • Photoshop CS3 and Epson R2400

Since I installed Leo on my Mac Pro, my R2400 will not work as it used to. I can not access the printers option menu where I can setup the paper, printer resolution, etc. When I am printing out of photoshop CS3 I will only get a standard printer menu provided by Mac OS and not by epson. I can´t change any settings and the prints come out terrible. I use the latest Epson driver - 6.12 - but nothing works as it should. Does anybody experience the same problems or might have a solution for this? I got plenty of print jobs to do before christmas! Thank you for any hints ... Jochen, Germany

    Jochen,
I managed to get my 2400 printing OK now. I spent a completely wasted hour e-talking to Epson UK Support yesterday. They offered nothing useful and spent all the time telling me to do obvious things, which was very frustrating. Then I decided to go back to basics. I ditched all the personalised settings in all the print dialogue boxes and tried printing with only basic settings. I had professional print profiles for each of my papers and printers, but none of these will now work and I think that they were the crux of the problem.
    This is what I did:
Step 1 - I turned off my printer. After ditching the entire Epson folder from the library and restarting Leopard, I downloaded the current Mac drivers from the Epson Support website and started by reinstalling the 2400 from scratch. I turned on my printer. I ran the downloaded installer and then went into Apple/Preferences/printers and faxes and removed the 2400 that leopard had installed with the gutenburg driver. I then installed the 2400 again through this screen and checked that the downloaded Epson 6.12 driver had installed. It had.
Step 2 - I went to page set-up for the photo I wanted to print in Photoshop CS3 and in Format For: I selected Epson Stylus Photo R2400 and in paper size: I selected A4 (sheet feeder - borderless) and clicked OK
Step 3 - I selected File/print. In Printer I selected Epson Stylus Photo R2400. In colour handling I selected Printer Manages Colour and in Rendering Intent I selected Relative Colorimetric. The I pressed the Print button.
step 4 - I then pressed Proceed in the larger than paper dialogue box taht then appeared and this closed.
Step 5 - This brings you to the Epson Printer Dialogue box. I selected the Print Settings section and selected Premium Glossy Photo paper as the Media Type. In colour settings I selected Epson Standard (sRGB). and selected the Advanced radar button below and best photo as the print quality. When I pressed print I got a good quality print....and it seems to work every time now!
I have also tried this with my Epson 950 and it also works. In fact I am getting better prints with this one than I was before Leopard!
Don't ask my why it is working this way. I don't know. I used to let Photoshop CS3 manage the colour using my profiles, but this will not work now. I suspect that as my profiles were done in tiger they are Tiger dependent. I will contact my supplier next week and discuss this with him. I am still disappointed that I seem to have lost complete control over my printing and blame Apple and Epson in equal measure. From my "discussions" with Epson support it is clear that their "fix" is aimed at the amateur user and not those requiring control over the production phase!
    I hope this helps.
    David
