Printing from GIMP 2.2

Hi-
I have GIMP 2.2 running and all. It's great only until I try to print from it. I have a Lexmark C510 printer. GIMP sees the printer in print dialog box. I press the print button and nothing happens.
How do I print my work from GIMP 2.2? What am I missing. I'm a newbie to X11 so please go easy on your answer.
Thanks.

Thanks. Did not know that I had to create a CUPS printer to print from GIMP.
I setup one over IP and chose the nearest GIMP Print driver that would work with my printer.
I'm printing
Thanks Again.

  • How to print from GIMP to a Canon i860

    Hello
I have searched the forums for this answer with no luck.... so either I am blind, or.... I don't know. This seems like this should be so easy to do.
I am trying to print from GIMP 2.2.10. I am using Mac OS-X 10.4.6. The printer is a Canon i860 inkjet, connected via USB to an iBook G4. I can print from any of the other applications, including from OpenOffice 2.0. I have downloaded and intalled the Canon IJ driver 415.
I can not find a good driver to use when I print from GIMP.
I can get it to print using Postscript 2 by removing -oraw and -l from the Command line in the printer setup (I set it to "lp -s -di860")
When I print from GIMP using the Postscript 2 setting, I can not change the Media Type to indicate Matte paper, or Glossy, etc. Nor can I change the resolution, etc. It does however print.
I have tried some of the other Canon Drivers listed in the GIMP print setup dialogue, but nothing seems to work - that is nothing even gets sent to the printer (I have the spooler window open so I can monitor). None of them are for the i860 specifically.
Any suggestions? Even just a place to start looking?
    Thanks in Advance
    Seth

  • Bands in pictures printed from Preview (due to image expansion?)

When I print a color picure from Preview, areas of medium color like an evening sky show bands about one inch wide. parallel to the print head movement direction. So one inch tall band will be lighter, the next darker. These are subtle differences, but ruin the print. I've contacted Epson who told me to try all the things I had already tried e.g. clean, calibrate, & align printer, new Epson brad ink, etc. They said if that didn't work it was the computer, or the cable, which I find unlikely. So I then tried printing from Gimp and Picasa, which did not have the problem, but also printed at the correcct size instead of expanding the image to fit the paper. This happens with both small images 320X231 as well as large ones 1600X1200
I read a comment in the community written in 2009 that said "After you choose File -> Print, under the "Orientation" section, about halfway down, is a drop-down menu. Choose "Preview" in there. After that, use the Scaling options to get it to print the size you want." I tried that but it  doesn't change the size of the printed image. I also tried fiddling with the image size on the Tools menu but that didn't help. It seems like the only way to shrink the image on the paper is to change to a smaller paper size, which is a workaround. So if anyone can point me to a way to scale down the printed image sizee I'd appreciate it.
Are these bands being caused by the expansion of the image? It's being blown up about 60%. Any thoughts?

David, I have over 40,000 photos in iPhoto dating back as far as 2002. I can easily find any one of those photos in seconds and make a perfect print of it in any size that I want.

  • Cannot print from the GIMP

I have GIMP 2.4.2 installed on 10.4.11 on a PowerMacG5 2.5 and it is running ok so far, but I cannot print. No printers show up in the print dialog. However, printing from OpenOffice works fine and I can see all my printers. Is there any way to get printers to show up in the GIMP?

    Try This!
    1) Go to Print Preview
    2) Print
    3) Name: HP PSC 2100 series (depend on your printer)
    4) Properties...
    5) Paper size: letter
    6) Change to Paper size: A6
    7) OK
    8) Repeat step 4 again
    9) Change back again Paper size: letter
    10) OK
    11) Don't print, but go back to Print Preview again and see if it works
This is the one that have work for me after trying several times modifying about:config with no success. Good luck and hope that will help.

  • [SOLVED] Printer prints wrong size from GIMP

    Dear friends,
    I have a printer HP Photosmart 5520.
I set up the printer with the HP Device Manager.
I like to use GIMP to print a file with exact measurements, which is an image on the paper which is 12cm in width, the page is A4, so is my printer.
Once I print, it will be only 11,1cm on the paper. I tried borderless print, which is 11,5cm then.
When I print with GIMP with Gutenprint, the size is 12cm.
When I print with Photoshop in WINE, its 12cm.
Problem with GIMP Gutenprint and Wine is: I cannot adjust print quality.
    Any idea?
    Thank you.

I removed the HP Device Manager, installed it again, went through all settings again, now its working, not sure what the problem was.

  • Can't print to Windows 7 shared printer from Mac OS Lion

    Dear all,
I would like to share my experience battling to figure out how to print to Windows 7 shared printer from Mac OS Lion. Myself had this problem and looking throughly in internet without success. But finally I figured out the solution by myself, hope this can help other Mac user with similar problem.
OK, when I try to setup my new MacBook Pro with OS Lion to connect with my Canon MX308 printer attached to desktop with Windows 7 Ultimate,
    1. I simply select System Preferences>Print & Scan.
    2. Then looks for the + sign just below the box to add a new printer.
    3. From the option toolbar above, I select Windows. I have connect this MacBook with my Windows Network, so the workgroup will appear to the left column.
    4. After I select this group, the computer list will appear in the middle column
    5. Then after I select the computer which my printer connected to, my printer sharename will appear in the right column
    6. Last step is to select the printer I want to use.
    7. After that it will automatically put your printer sharename to the "Name". And then I select my printer driver at "Print Using" and find my printer manufacturer which is Canon MX300 series from driver lists. Finish!
My printer appear in the Printers List. But the problem is everytime I try to print there will be error message saying "ON HOLD Authentication Required".
This problem start to kill me, I search all around for similar problem, but the solution was never worked for me!
Until just now I figured out accidentally for the solution.
THE PROBLEM LIES ON MY PRINTER DRIVER!!!! Although I have downloaded the most update driver from Apple site and Apple Software update said there is no more update for my system!
The solution for my problem is Gutenprint Printer Driver! You can download this driver at http://gimp-print.sourceforge.net/MacOSX.php, then select for the latest driver gutenprint-5.2.7.dmg. Install this driver!
Then back to Print & Scan in System Preferences, then right click on Printers List box, then choose "Reset Printing System..." to clear the previous failed printers.
After that, repeat the above step 2 - 7. Only for the last step I need to select the Printer Driver for my Canon MX308 for the driver name : "Canon PIXMA MX300 - CUPS+Gutenprint v5.2.7"
Now I can sleep as a baby knowing that my printer make a friend with my new Macbook Pro! Hope this will help others!

I have the same setup but with a Canon MX850.  This did not fix my problem.

  • Can't print from Mac to epson nx300 on Win7, even with networkmagic

I've spent days going over forums and can't seem to get this working.
My main computer runs Win7 Home Premium x64 with an epson NX300 printer attached to it by USB. I have been able to print to it from another windows xp laptop.
I recently bought an iBook running OSX 10.5.8 and cannot for the life of me get it to find the printer on the network.
I've tried using SMB as outlined here http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3049
and using LPD as outlined here http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7performance/thread/bd920e46-d beb-4bb2-a38e-8791facd0608
I run NetworkMagic on the Windows machines and also have it installed as trial on the ibook, and it says that the printer is not installed and I can't install it from there either. Called their tech support and they shrugged their shoulders.
I've downloaded drivers directly from epson as well.
When I try to add a printer from the "print & fax" window using the "Windows" button, it recognizes my workgroup and pc name but then says "connection failed"

Print Drivers on OS X aren't the same as on Windows...
You can't use an Epson driver made for USB-only Epson printers, because they wrote the driver to only work via USB. To use the CUPS Windows printer protocol, you need a driver written to use CUPS. The Gutenprint drivers Apple included in OS X are CUPS drivers. An update is here:
    http://gimp-print.sourceforge.net/MacOSX.php
If your specific model isn't yet supported, try other model drivers.

  • Can"t print from iBook G4 to windows HP890c Printer

I have been trying to print from an apple iBook G4 to a HP 890c Windows printer. I can see the 3 pc's in the workgroup from the apple and can file share with them but cannot print. I can install the HP 890C in windows printing using the dialog boxes but I get the NTStatus_BadName error when attempting to print.
Which computer do you download and install the hpijs and the ESP ghostscript? I imagine its to the PC which the printers are attached but want to verify.
Also, even though I added the iBook G4 to the workgroup, it does not show up. It does show up with servers. I cannot see the ibook from any of thje PC workgroup computers. Could this be part of my path problem.

hpijs and ESP ghostscript are for OS X. But, you have a network-capable driver (Deskjet 890C, Gimp-Print) already included in OS X. Your problem appears to be in the Windows sharing (Samba=smb) system.
Try adding the printer using the advanced windows printing method: After clicking add, Hold down option key and click More Printers. Select Advanced at the bottom of the first menu. Select Windows Printing via Samba (I think that's what it says). Enter the URI like this:
smb://[IP address of server]/[printer share name from Windows]

  • Wireless network printing from macbook to windows XP

We have a wireless router (netgear) setup with 3 XP computers. A canon i900d printer is directly connected to the main computer. All computers share the internet and printer perfectly. I have the macbook recognizing the network and sharing the internet. And after two days of reading these forums and making changes I finally got the macbook to recognize the computer on the network that has the printer. I still can't get the macbook to show my true printer model and had to choose one of the ?gimp-print? models. The macbook prints but......
Now the problem is the pages print to about 1/4 scale.
I checked the preferences and they are set to 100%.
I downloaded the driver directly from canons website.
    What now???

Well, i have seem to isolated the issue..I can't find the EXACT gutenprint driver for the printer. It's not listed in the driver drop down list..With my printer at home that wirelessly prints fine to my xp computer, i have the exact driver listed and installed. What really drives me crazy, is that this printer is fully supported by leopard if its plugged into the USB port! It detects and prints perfectly..but there just isnt a supported driver to print from the mac over the wireless network to the xp PC.. From my searching, there may be a way to use another 3rd party driver using ghostscript, but all this mac stuff is new to me, so it's a bit beyond my mac skills for now...

  • Someone tell me why is it so difficult to print from my Intel Mac Mini

I'm so frusrated at this Intel Mac Mini of mine. I wish honest to God that I never bought this evil little machine.
    I have the following printers:
    HP Photosmart 7550
    HP Laserjet 1012
    Canon MP830
I can't get anything to print! It so **** frustrating. I switched my wife from her WinXP to a Intel Mac Mini (10.4.6). She hates the Mac Mini because she can't print anything.
Why is it so difficult? Please someone enlighten me.
After months (not kidding) of searching on the web I was able to get the Photosmart 7550 to print using one of the gimp drivers, but I couldn't get it to change the paper type or quality. So that tells me I can't print any photos from my Mac. Need to use the WinXP box.
Then I was able to get the 1012 printing by selecting "open using rosetta" for the Printer Setup Utility, and selecting the "HP LaserJet 4 series - Gimp-Print v5.0.0-beta2". So now I could at least print BW docs. Great the Mac Mini is not a total waste. Then I updated software, which include the Mac mini SMC Firmware Update. I don't know what did it, but now I can't print to the 1012 anymore. ARGHH!
I tried deleting the Library/Printer/HP directory, Reseting the Printing System, Restarting the CUPs, Installing PDDs, Installing the gimp drivers. What the ****! Why do I need to do any of this? I thought the Mac was suppose to be so easy. With all those **** commercials talking about how the Mac can do anything a PC can do, you would think one of those things is being able to print.
Those people making those commericals should try using the "Printer Setup Utility" program. That will change their tune. First you have to search for your printer, then pick the Printer Model, and then pick the specific model. And God forbid you click to fast, oops you've now picked a generic printer, needs to start all over again. There's no back button. You've already committed to the generic printer type. Now you have to open the Printer Setup Utility again and delete the generic printer and go search for your printer again. Lame.
Don't get me started with the Canon MP 830. I thought, ok maybe its because the 1012 and 7550 are older printers. I'll go buy a new printer - they must have current drivers for that. Canon tells me that the MP 830 is only a single OS machine, meaning you can only connect it to a windows machine and only other windows machines can print from it, or connect it to a Mac, and only other Macs can use it - Again, Lame.
Really I wanted to love the Mac OS. When I first got it, I was loving it. But what good is it if I can't print. I searched the web and it seems I'm not the only person having issues with printing.
I hate this Intel Mac Mini with every fiber of my being. Ok, maybe my printing woes are only because it's a Intel chip, and the PPC macs are golden. But come on, if you can't print from a computer, what good is it?
Please, someone help me. Otherwise, anybody want to buy a Intel dual core Mac Mini?
mac mini duo core Mac OS X (10.4.6)

You have two different issues: HP and Canon.
I don't know if I believe the Canon people. Windows XP has lots of different print options. Try installing Bonjour on Windows and then setting up a networked, Color Apple Laserwriter PS printer using "http://macmini.local:631" (assuming macmini is the name of your Mac). I have done this before (though not on a Canon). I am sure Canon will only support a standard configuration and this is not quite standard. Give it a try. It doesn't sound like it can hurt anything in your current setup.
For the HP, you might have to just wait for an updated driver from HP. HP has always had this problem. They are a huge printer company and I'm sure they get Apple hardware and OS versions before anybody else in the world. And yet, it seems as if they don't even begin working on their drivers until Apple officially releases a new OS. HP drivers are always the last to show up for a new OS and the first to break. If you get it working under MacOS 10.4.6, and then upgrade to 10.4.7, it is very likely that the HP drivers will stop working.
Unlike some of the other big companies, HP seems to have made the transition from Classic MacOS to MacOS X seamlessly. Their printer driver software works just as well on MacOS X as it did under MacOS.

  • Can't print from Mac to Windows printer

I have a wireless network of 3 computers and a printer. One is a desktop running XP with the printer attached. The other is a laptop with XP. And the last is a MacBook with 10.4.11.
I can print from both computers running XP but I can't print from the Mac. The Mac sees the printer and I can add it and try to print from it. When I try to print I get the error message:
    NTSTATUS_NOMEMORY
I later get the "Unable to connect to SAMBA host, will retry in 60 seconds" message too.

Be sure the printer name assigned in Windows is not more than 11 alphanumeric characters. Long names with punctuation and the like are known to cause problems.
    Look at:

    Monday, July 24 2006 @ 11:00 AM PDT
    Tutorial: Resolving common printer problems
Mac OS X offers a robust printing system with built-in support for hundreds of devices from a wide body of manufacturers. It's not without flaws, however, and printers often become unrecognized or non-functional after a significant Mac OS X update. Printers connected through hubs or AirPort base stations can also exhibit some frustrating issues.
Below is a run-down of the most generally successful printer workarounds. Keep trying until one of them sticks.
Use Printer Setup Repair This tool lets you verify properties of the root user, the Printing Services (lp) user, and Print Operators (lp) groups, reset the printing system, perform CUPS maintenance and more. Run through its set of maintenance tasks before delving into further printer troubleshooting. See how to use it in this article.
Re-install CUPS If you are experiencing printer issues after applying an incremental Mac OS X update, problems may have occurred with your CUPS installation during the update process.
The file is available from this Web site: http://www.cups.org/software.php, and is labeled cups-1.2.1.dmg
Delete then re-add printers/Reset printing system Open Printer Setup Utility, located in Applications/Utilities and look at the "Printer List" Highlight and delete all entries.
Alternatively, go to the "Printer Setup Utility" menu at the top of the screen and select "Reset Printing System".
Click the "Add" button and re-add your printer(s).
Gutenprint and usbtb Some users have been able to resolve printer communication issues by installing the excellent open-source Epson printer drivers available as part of the Gutenprint package (formerly known as Gimp-print) and usbtb, a CUPS back-end for USB printing.
Remove non-required drivers Removing extraneous drivers from /Library/Printers(name of manufacturer) can sometimes resolve printer issues. Remove files that are for other models than your own.
Re-install drivers Re-installation of printer drivers from original media or from a Web download (either directly through the manufacturers site or via a search by model/manufacturer on VersionTracker) can resolve some printer issues.
Try disconnecting from network In some cases, LAN-connected printer, seemingly broken by the Mac OS X update can restored to normal operation by simply disconnecting the device from the network then re-connecting it.
"Communicator Error" -- try power cycling If you receive a "Communication Error" message when attempting to print after updating to Mac OS X 10.4.5, the first workaround you should try is power cycling the printer, as well as disconnecting then re-connecting it to the Mac.
Connecting directly to the Mac If you are having printer problems and are using an external USB hub, try connecting the printer directly to your Mac.
One reader who had success with this method writes:
"Unfortunately the update to Mac OS X 10.4.6 has eliminated the ability to use my Lexmark Z600 series USB printer on my iMac G5 20" iSight (rev C).
"I resolved the problem via the following: I unplugged my external USB hub and plugged the printer directly to my computer."
Disconnect from AirPort and reset For those who are using printers connected to an AirPort Express, Extreme or another wireless device with USB connections, you might want to try the following:
Disconnect the printer from the AirPort unit (or other router)
    Wait a few minutes
    Plug it back in
    Restart the base station unit
Check for your printer to appear in AirPort Admin Utility (located in Applications/Utilities)
Print one copy In some cases, using print one copy instead of the standard print command can result in elimination of crashes that occur during printing.
Try IP printing instead of AppleTalk Some Macs are unable to see AppleTalk printers that are located on the local AirPort (or other wireless) network. Several users have been able to workaround this issue by using IP printing instead of AppleTalk.
Last resort -- Archive and Install As a last resort, try performing the somewhat tedious Archive and Install process, then re-upgrading to Mac OS X 10.4.7. This has solved some otherwise inexplicable printer issues for MacFixIt readers.

  • Epson 740 Inkjet won't print from Epson Driver!

    Hi All,
I've just recently upgraded to Tiger, from Jaguar, and all was well...until today! My colour printer is an Epson Stylus 740 and it was printing perfectly yesterday but now the all jobs are "Stopped"!
If I click on "Start Jobs" the progress bar appears then, after a couple of seconds, vanishes and I'm back to "Jobs Stopped" with the file still in the print queue. That's it! No other indication of a fault or problem.
I have now configured the printer via Gimp Print (V5.0.0) and it works fine. So the printer is ok but I'd like to use the Epson driver as I'm used to it and know how to get the results I want.
If this was OS 9 I'd suspect a corrupted file in the spool folder but, even though I've used OS X for years, I don't even know if there still is a spool folder! I certainly can't find one.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    John

There are tons of posts on similar problems in this forum. Do a search for stopped jobs and you'll see. There are a lot of suggested fixes, it sounds like some work for some people and not for others. Also, although it sounds like it's usually Epson printers, it's not always. And it's all different models. I have an Epson Stylus CX6600. I haven't had a chance to try all the fixes yet, but one that did work for a couple months for me was this:
Before printing, go into your application's "Page setup" option and make sure that the "Format for" says your printer and not "Any printer." I'm not sure why this works but it's even on the Epson tech support website in their troubleshooter. You will have to do this for every application and it quit working for me after I updated to 10.4.5, but maybe it could be a temporary fix for you as well.
Please post if you come up with a more permanent solution!

  • Can't print from Word or Adobe...but everything else works just fine

I get error message "opening raster file failed!"
I have tried different printers and none work. Any suggestions?

Could there be a newer or upgraded printer driver available for your
print hardware, from the printer manufacturer's support site, or maybe
    via Apple Support downloads?
The error message relates to other users with printer issues among
other brands of printers; so it may be your print drivers are at fault.
If the driver installer disc from the manufacturer has its own un-install
process, use that to remove the existing driver before reinstalling an-
other one. There also may be a print driver option from Gimp online.
    Good luck & happy computing!
