Printing from imac over airport express connected to an ethernet network

Hi, My home ethernet network shares an ethernet connected printer, and web connection via a switch and worked fine. What doesn't now work is my rearrangement that now includes an emac, and imac connected to this wired net via an airport express, they connect to the web just fine, but the printer isn't detected. I can hookup either mac to the switch directly using cat5 cable and detect the printer but not over the airport express that is wired to the switch. If anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated as I am trying to avoid more holes drilled in the floor so near where the plastic waterlines run to the second bathroom.
Thank you,

Hello again,
I'm guessing that the problem is maybe that both the switch and the express are duplicating some of the same things, and that the airport express should maybe be setup as strictly a bridge. Would one be able to set it up as a bridge and be able to handle 2 macs, or would it just handle one correctly at a time?
Thanks

  • Printing from XP to Airport Express-connected printer stopped working

We have an HP printer hooked up to an Airport Express. We have a Windows XP machine that has been set up to print using Bonjour and the Airport, and it has been working for months. Suddenly, it is not working. Documents get to the printer queue, but then error out.
We also have a Power Mac set up, running Tiger, that still works. We can also hook up the printer directly to the Windows PC and it prints fine. We have tried the following:
-Recreating the printer in Windows. (The Bonjour Wizard finds the printer just fine.)
    -Reinstalling Bonjour 1.04
-Restarting Windows and the printer and the AE (several times)
    -Turning off the firewall
    -Printing documents from multiple applications
-Creating a printer with a generic driver
No matter what, the document errors out in the printer queue when we try to print wirelessly from the PC. We don't know exactly when this started, because we haven't printed anything in a while. We can't think of any changes that have been made recently, except for automatic Windows updates. Has anyone else seen this problem recently? Any suggestions?

Excellent...great find! Had the same problem. Mac PB and two PC laptops on XP via Bonjour have been printing fine for many years through an Airport Extreme to an HP 7300 AIO printer. Then one day last week the Mac continued printing fine over wifi to Airport Extreme but both PC's (one Dell and one Compaq) stopped printing both via direct wired USB and wifi through the AE. Microsoft must have put out an update that hosed something on the XP side. Tried reinstalling drivers, deleting and rebuilding bonjour printer, resetting devices, etc. Nothing fixed it. Found this link and reconfigured the port as mentioned above to AE's IP address, RAW setting was already set, and they are now printing fine again. Thx for the help!

  • AirPort Express connected to an Ethernet network

At home, I have three Macs connected to an existing Ethernet switch, which are networked together and share an Internet connection through a DSL modem (connected to the Ethernet switch too).
Also, I have a Graphite AirPort Base connected to the same Ethernet switch, with a MacBook and an iBook wirelessly networked, and all these 5 computer «see» each other and connect to the Internet without problems.
Now I'm trying to replace the Graphite AirPort Base with an AirPort Express, but looks like I'm having problems to make it act as an Ethernet bridge, since:
    1) the MacBook and the iBook «see» each other, but don't «see» the Macs connected to the Ethernet bridge;
    2) the MacBook and the iBook connect to the Internet without problems, but the other Macs don't.
I searched the Apple site and this forum extensively, but I didn't find a detailed guide explaining how to set up this kind of «hybrid» network (wireless+ethernet) through the AirPort Express. I'm beginning to think it's not possible. Am I wrong?
Is there a method to replicate the situation I had with the Graphite AirPort Base, using the AirPort Express instead?

Printing from iPad to airport express USB printer

    mdurwin wrote:
Exactly my point: it's not a problem of not having the right printer, it's a matter of iOS not allowing it because Air Print is blocking it, probably because of a deal with HP.
But, I've solved the problem so now I can print from my iMac, my Mac Air, my iPhone and my iPad. No thanks to the folks at Apple who purposely blocked that functionality.
Can you print from your iPad directly to the printer without involving an intervening computer, yes or no.

  • How do I print from iPhone using Airport Express to a regular printer over enet

I am trying to figure out how to print from my iPhone or iPad to a regular printer that is on my wired ethernet network. I purchased Airport Express and my iPhone recognizes the Airport Express. I connected the USB port to the USB port on printer. The printer recognizes the Airport Express. But my iPhone does not recognize the printer. Any ideas?

See this article about AirPrint: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4356
Note the next-to-last bullet in "Notes" near the bottom:
AirPrint printers connected to the USB port of the Apple AirPort Base Station or Time Capsules are not supported with AirPrint.
I do not believe you can use AirPrint to print to a wired printer, period.  Very likely, you cannot use even a printer manufacturer's app to print to such a printer.  You would need a wireless printer.

  • No printing from XP via AirPort Express

We're using AirPort Extreme. A Windows XP machine is connected via Ethernet cable to the AirPort, and a Mac iBook is connected wirelessly. Both machines can access the internet without any problems.
Also connected to the AirPort (via USB cable) is a Canon PIXMA iP4200 printer. Printing from the iBook works fine, but we are unable to get the XP machine to print.
I've downloaded and installed the most current driver from Canon's website. (The printer works fine when plugged directly into the XP machine -- it's only through the AirPort that it won't work.)
I followed the instructions on p. 54 of the "AirPorts Networks for Windows" documentation -- creating a port with an IP of 10.0.1.1 when adding the printer. I've tried disabling the XP firewall, but that had no effect.
The printer showed in the XP "Printers and Faxes" window. It said "Ready" (not "Offline"). When we sent something to print, the job appeared in the queue. But then it would eventually time out with a message that the printer is either busy or there's some other error.
To complicate matters, I deleted that printer from XP's "Printers and Faxes" in one of my repeated attempts to start over. Now when I go through the process, it tells me that port 10.0.1.1 is already in use, so I can't even get it to show.
This is XP Home Edition, Service Pack 2.
We tried calling Canon support, but they don't support networked printers.

Also, I'm unable to repeat them now because it fails
at the step, "...if the IP address of the AEBS or
Airport Express is 10.0.1.1, put "10.0.1.1" and let
it generate "IP_10.0.1.1" as the port name."
This no longer works because XP says that that port
    is already in use.
At the "Up will come the "Select the Printer Port" screen" rather than create a new port, use the drop down box to select the IP_10.0.1.1 port which already exists.

  • Problems printing from firefox over AirPort Extreme

Hi - Just got my shiny new MacBook Pro (OS X 10.5.1) and AirPort Extreme (7.2.1). I'm a switcher from a PC, and still intend to keep my desktop PC, with my printer (HP PSC 1510) connected to both over the AirPort's USB port.
I'm having trouble printing from Firefox 2.0.0.11 from the PC only, but all my other applications on the PC and the MacBook Pro print just fine. Firefox on the MacBook Pro prints ok. I'm guessing it's an AirPort problem, but not sure...
    Any ideas?

Hello Todd_1. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
I'm having trouble printing from Firefox 2.0.0.11 from the PC only, but all my other applications on the PC and the MacBook Pro print just fine. Firefox on the MacBook Pro prints ok. I'm guessing it's an AirPort problem, but not sure...
Based on your description of the problem, it sounds more like the issue is the printer settings in Firefox, rather than the AirPort base station. Since most Windows applications rely on the printer settings within Windows, you may want to first double-check those to verify that they are correct. However, your current settings appear to be working if you're able to print from other Windows applications other than Firefox. You may also want to double-check your printer settings within Firefox as well.

  • Streaming from iMac to airport express

I'm sure this has been beaten to death, but I just bought an airport express for the purposes of streaming music from my iMac to speakers in another room. What I'm wondering is how to set up the Express to facilitate this without having to buy a wireless router. I get the impression from posts I've read elsewhere that it can be done, but I haven't been able to find out how. My iMac is brand new, so it came with an airport card pre-installed, and it is connected to the internet directly from my cable modem (no wireless network to speak of).
Any help offered will greatly appreciated!

    Nevermind, it's been solved

  • How to setup HP LaserJet 1320 to print from Windows using Airport Express

My situation was that I could print locally when the printer was directly plugged into the computer's USB port but when I tried to print through the Airport Express (with the printer plugged into the AEBS USB port) nothing would happen. (I could print fine from my MacBook Pro, just not from any Windows machine.)
It seems (although I'm still not quite sure why) that the issue was with the port address created by the Bonjour for Windows wizard.
The following worked like a charm:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1688294

I don't think it answers the original question. PrintCentral, according to the description you are pointing to print
    s to:
    1) most wireless printers (he's got a network printer, I assume a wired one)
Works just fine on my 2 Ethernet network printers.
    2) all printers via a Mac. This option although useful looks a bit strange. If I have to have a Mac on all the time, I would use it to view stuff and print from there. No need for an iPad.
Not sure why you would want to use this option if you want to print directly from the iPad to a printer. My wife's iPad prints to either network printer just fine when my Mac laptop is shut down.
Looking for a solution myself... We need CUPS for iPad!
You might want to let Apple know.

  • Airport express connected to my existing network - Can I connect a device to the network through it's ethernet port?

Is it possible when my airport express is wirelessly connected to my existing network - to connect a device to the network through it's ethernet port or is it wireless only at that point?
I'm trying to connect my A/V Receiver in another room to my network without having to run a CAT5 cable all the way to the router.  I'd rather be able to connect it to my airport express if it will work that way.

Is it possible when my airport express is wirelessly connected to my existing network - to connect a device to the network through it's ethernet port or is it wireless only at that point?
    Yes.....IF
You have an AirPort Express 802.11"n" version configured to "join a wireless network" and you have enabled the option to "Enable Ethernet Clients"
    Or
You have an AirPort Express 802.11"n" configured to "extend a wireless network" from another Apple "n" router, in which case the Ethernet port is enabled by default

  • Airport Express connection with my wireless network

    Hi
I have tried to install my Airport Express, which was okay, but doing so I had to disconnect my wireless network.
What I would like to do is to connect the airport express to the wireless network (Linksys-router). I tried to choose the "Join an existing wireless network" in the admin utility, but now I have lost contact with my airport express base station.
    Please help me....

What I would like to do is to connect the airport express to the wireless network (Linksys-router).
What are you trying to do with the AirPort Express Base Station (AX)? Use it for streaming iTunes and/or share a USB printer, or extend your existing Linksys wireless network?

  • Printing from 10.5.6 to a Mac on ethernet network running 10.3.9

Hopefully someone will be able to help out with this problem - after upgrading our G5's to Leopard (10.5.6) we are trying to print to an Epson printer that is connected via USB to a G4 running 10.3.9 - the G4 and G5s are on an ethernet network and connect to each other via a hub.
We have tried typing the Terminal command cupsctl BrowseProtocols='"cups dnssd"' as recommended here
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2275
however that hasn't helped the issue - has anyone else got any ideas?
    TIA

Can you please tell us more about your network? Is that really a hub? Is there a router that gives the computers IP addresses by DHCP? Please compare the IP addresses of all computers - they should all be in the same subnet - like all start with the same first three parts - 192.168.1., etc.

  • I am trying to stream my music from laptop over airport express to my stereo while being able to use the internet at the same time. I am on a PC and have a Verizon Fios router. Little help?

I think I have tried everything I could find/think of to get this to work. I can connect it to my stereo and stream music fine but the internet won't work. I really just want it to join/or extend so that my internet connection remains intact and I can stream music and surf the web at the same time.
    Any help would be appreciated!
    Thanks

You would probably want your Express to join the network if an extender isn't required. Reset to factory settings and join the network.
If you do want your Express as an extender run an Ethernet cable between the Express and the Verizon router and set the Express up to be in bridge mode, with the same WiFi network name and password as your Verizon router.

  • HT4437 Streaming music from iTune to Airport Express

In order to stream music from iTunes (Windows Desktop) to AirPort Express, do both have to be connected via WiFi network? What if both are connected via same wired network.
My iTunes cannot see AirPort Express connected to the same network.
    thanks,

Airport utility installed on my PC (Win Vista) cannot detect AA. It communicates only when I enter the IP address of AA. After that I have configured the AA in Bridge mode. AA has wired connection with Linksys Router.PC is connected with the same router.
iPod Touch can easily detect AA and can stream music to it too.
