Printing from Mac Book Pro to windows printer Error 306

Error 306
I tried several setups before I figured this out.
Trying to print to windows printer
Mac Book Pro / Canon MX 870 resulted in print error 306.
Home network with Linksys  wireless N router
First delete the printer on the Mac.
Make sure you go to Canon's website and download latest driver for your Mac. Canon's software driver site detects your operating system automatically and takes you to the driver you need, just make sure everything matches up. You can see the OS version you are using by clicking on the apple icon and then (about this mac)
I also down loaded network tool package. Not sure if you need it, but I loaded it too.
Now on the Canon MX870, go to the wireless set up menu. (key pad on the printer itself). Follow the promts and you will get to where you can enter your network password and get your printer to connect to your router. Now the wireless Icon on the printer will be on steady.
Now back on the Mac, Click the Apple Icon, System Preferences, then click on printers and scanners.
You will see, Default- Scanner- IP- Windows, icons at the top of the page. Just be sure the default is highlighted.
My Scanner came up first, then a few seconds later the printer appeared.
Select the printer
Use the one with all the numbers after the printer name. (MX870xxxxxxxxxxx)
Canon U Network
Click on it and then click the add button bottom right
Make sure your are always in good wireless signal strength throughout the entire process.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for the detailed info Lou!

    If Windows doesn’t install properly
Verify that you’re using an original, full version of the 64-bit version of Windows 7 Home Premium, Windows 7 Professional, Windows 7 Ultimate, Windows 8, or Windows 8 Pro.
Restart your Mac and hold down the Option key until one or more disk icons appear on your screen. Insert the Windows installation disc into the optical drive or insert the USB flash drive with Windows into a USB port on your Mac. Select the Windows installation disk icon, then click the arrow beneath it. Quickly press any key on your keyboard to start the installer. Follow the onscreen instructions to repair or reinstall Windows.

can I interrupt a migration from Mac Book Pro to iMac and what are the consequences

    Les:
    Here are some options:
    • You could copy the data file to your laptop, work on it, and update the file on the iMac when you are back.
    • You can use an application like Log Me In to access your home computer from your laptop.
    • You can use DropBox. Install it on both computers, place your data file in a folder on the iMac, access it and work on it on your laptop and it will be automatically updated on your computer at home, even if it is not turned on, as soon as it is connected to the internet.
Please do post back with further questions or comments.

My Mac knows that it is connected to the montior...
Open your Displays system preferences.  Is there an Arrangement tab and does it show two screens?  If no Arrangement tab then your mac does not know it has two screens.  Maybe smc and pram reset will shake it free and maybe not.  Maybe there's something wrong with the connection.  Thunderbolt plugs are similar to mini-displayport plugs so make sure the plug is pushed firmly in so that essentially all the metal part disappears inside the socket.  The plugs can be a little tricky in that you need to make sure the plug is fully seated in their socket.
If you do see two screens in the Arrangement tab then click Detect Displays and Gather Windows to get the Displays preferences of the other monitor on to your main monitor.  Check the resolution and if there is a refresh rate check that as well.

  • Why can't i airdrop from mac book pro to iPhone 5s

why can't i airdrop from mac book pro to iPhone 5s

You can't currently AirDrop between OS X and iOS. This is partly because OS X supports many file types that iOS wouldn't know what to do with if you AirDropped them onto an iPhone.
This will change in the next OS X and iOS that Apple recently demonstrated. When those OSs become final and are released to the public, you will be able to AirDrop between OS X and iOS. Apparently iOS will be more flexible about handling file types, as shown by the future ability to create your own sharing folder in iCloud instead of having iCloud being individual to each app.

  • Can't print from mac book pro to Ricoh Aficio MP C4500

Hello, today i started working in a new office, that uses a Ricoh Aficio MP C4500 printer and everyone in the office uses windows computers. I have a Mac Book Pro 2.26 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, on it, I am running Mac OSX 10.6.6.
When I have tried to print several different file types such as .pdf, .doc, .txt, etc. the printer prints out usually 20 pages that are all coded or blank and nothing similar to what i printed out. I'm guessing this is due to the printer not understanding the language of the data i send to it.I know that i am successfully connecting to the right printer.
I've visited several webpages that discuss how to fix the issue but none of them have worked.
I have tried downloading the mac osx 10.5 drivers from the Ricoh website(they didnt have 10.6) that didn't work and when i printed i still got all blank/coded pages.
Next I went I tried typing the the printer IP address to my browser url... that didn't help.
Next I went to the apple website and downloaded all of their mac osx 10.6 ricoh aficio drivers and when i printed i got all blank/coded pages again.
next i went and downloaded the "ghost script" "footmatic" and "pxlmono" and when i printed i got all blank/coded pages again.
all of the other webpages gave no other advice. Also, when printing each time i tried all of the different protocols, that didnt make a difference.
if you can advise, it would be much appreciated! Thanks!

It sounds like the printer does not have the optional PostScript module installed.
Next I went to the apple website and downloaded all of their mac osx 10.6 ricoh aficio drivers and when i printed i got all blank/coded pages again.
The drivers that are available from the Ricoh web site or are available from Apple only work when the PostScript module is installed.
next i went and downloaded the "ghost script" "footmatic" and "pxlmono" and when i printed i got all blank/coded pages again.
After you downloaded and installed the Ghostscript, Foomatic-RIP, and pxlmono drivers, did you delete your existing Ricoh print queues and create new print queues? Did you choose the driver that had pxlcolor in the title?
If the pxlmono/pxlcolor drivers do not work properly for you, you will need to have the IT person tell you what printer languages the printer can use. Alternatively, you can print a configuration page from the printer keypad that will print a sheet telling you what languages it can use.

  • Any fix for touch pad issue in mac book pro on windows 7?

Hi, I've recently installed windows 7 and parallels in my mac book pro. While i run windows with the parallels track pad, scrolling and right click are functioning properly. But when i logon to windows directly none of them are functioning.
Pls lemme know if there is any fix for this.
    Thanks

Running Windows in parallels from the BootCamp partition messes the original installation. My experience. You will have to remove the parallels virtual machine from mac and did a complete reinstall of Windows later. It is better to keep your virtual machine separately.
This is not true. Running Bootcamped Windows from Parallels or Fusion does not impact the Bootcamp installation of Windows. It just provides a different access to the single Windows installation. Both Parallels and Fusion support this configuration and instructions for how to use Bootcamped Windows as the virtual machine's tartget operating system is included on each virtual machines's respective site.

  • Mac book pro or windows..please help me.....

Ok so I have a mac mini….i wanna get a mac book pro…im gonna get the 7200 rpm drive..2gb ram.everything good with it as you vcan probably terll money is not an issue…but I c that the mac book pro only has a 2.16ghz processor…..now ive looked at windows computers and they have like over 4ghz… would a windows be faster……..
    Any help is apreciated

Ahh, it all depends on what you're doing. What is it that you want to do? It's an important consideration when buying a computer. This is my (rough) understanding of Windows-compatible processors (gleaned from my PC using friends).
AMD processors are like a race car, they go really fast, but try taking all your shopping home in them (ie. great for single processor intensive tasks, but fall down on multi-tasking.)
Intel processors are a people carrier, their handling ain't so snappy (ie. great for multi-tasking but their MHz just don't go as far when you really push them to do something hard like top-end gaming, graphics or video.)
These are generalisations, and silly analogies. Bear this in mind. If you want to know more, you need to learn about processor queues, pipeline stages and such - I know the slightest smallest teeniest bit about that, but you can google it yourself if you wanna know that badly.
The top spec laptop is always slower than the top spec desktop. If your 4GHz system is a PC desktop (which I'm assuming, I've never heard of a 4GHz laptop) then of course it will be faster (although there are other things to take into account, like frontside bus speed, memory bus speed, L2 cache, single/dual processor which are also very important). To be honest though, if you don't understand this stuff, then why do you need a very fast computer?
If you're doing games you're gonna having to learn about this (and I'd definitely recommend a top-spec Windows desktop machine).
If you just want a computer to some word processing, e-mails, videos and photos then get the mac - it's way more compatible (can run OS X and XP) and a lot more pretty, and a lot easier to use
If you're involved in creativity, again, I'd recommend the Mac - it's just the done thing and the laptop'll have plenty of poke for nearly anything (except maybe heavy-duty HD video editing).
Oh yeah I agree with the last guy as well, Windows does end up running slow as sh*t after a year tops. Basically it requires an annual system reinstall if you want any sort of performance out of it
