Printing from MacBook Pro to a Printer on Windows XP PC

If I connect my Lexmark X7170 and Kodak EasyShare Photo Printer directly to my Mac it prints fine. When I try to print from the wireless network the Lexmark printer comes up with an error of "printer cartridges in the wrong spot" and the Kodak isn't found.
However, if I print from my mac while in Parallels running Windows XP everything works fine.
Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Wade, and Welcome to the dicussions.
I think it's how the PC is setup and interpreting the Mac's drivers, should just pass them on I think, but here's a way to get most any Mac to print to most any printer on an XP machine...

  • Printing from MacBook Pro to Appletalk printer

Computer: MacBook Pro OS X 10.4.8
    network: wireless via Apple Airport
printer: NEC SilentWriter 1097 connected to Ethernet via a Appletalk-to-Ethernet adaptor
    Here is the situation:
When I run the Printer Setup Utility, select "Add Printer," then press the "More Printers..." button, then select "AppleTalk" and "Local AppleTalk Zone," no printers show up in the list. Appletalk is enabled in the network settings and I can see the other Macs on the network. The other Macs (both PPC, one wired one wireless; both also running 10.4.8) on the network can see the Appletalk printer. The MacBook Pro (Intel) cannot.

How is your Airport connected to the Ethernet-to-Localtalk adapter? Is it a direct connection from the LAN Ethernet port on the Airport or through a hub/switch/router? On my network both the Airport and the iPrint Ethernet-to-Localtalk adapter are connected to an Ethernet switch (as are 2-3 computers). I have had no problems printing to my HP 5MP via AppleTalk wirelessly from 2 other Macs. (Except that this is slow with complex documents due to the slow Localtalk connection.)
Are you sure the Ethernet port on the Airport is enabled? How did you set up the Airport? Can you use other services such as iTunes sharing over the wireless connection?
I am using the same laser printer driver whether I connect wirelessly or wired. Since the 802.11g should function as if it is a wired connection, I don't see why there should be a difference in drivers, as long as you use an ethernet workable driver as you are apparently doing. (I am not a printer guru, just a learner, so I could be wrong here, but the Appletalk over wireless 802.11g does work for me. I don't have an Intel Mac but I do want to get one soon so I hope there is not a problem in this regard.)

  • Printing from MacBook Pro to a Printer Connected to the USB Port on A MacG5

    November 17, 2009
Apple Tells Me: It is completely valid to connect the HP 4360 printer (not wireless) to the USB Port of my MacG5 and print pages from my MacBook Pro if I select Print Share in the Apple Preferences of my MacG5. The MacBook Pro and MacG5 are connected through a Router and a wired Local Area Network through a Router.
HP Tells Me: Since the D4360 is not a wireless printer and since it is not supported to print from a MacBook Pro on the same wired local area network also connected to a MacG5 computer. In particular, they said that use of the Print Share option on the MacG5 to print from the MacBook Pro will cause damage to the HP D4360 printer or print driver and when this occurs it will invalidate the warranty on the HPD4360.
    Questions:
    1. Is there any validity to the HP answer on this subject??
My analysis to date says that the Apple statement is 100% true, with the exception that if the driver is damaged it can be restored without any damage to the printer.
    2. Is there any documentation of the HP concern?

Is there any validity to the HP answer on this subject?
No. It's very difficult for any software to damage a hardware component, and on the rare case the driver becomes damaged, which is also highly unlikely, it won't affect the printer's warranty.

  • HT4356 how to print from macbook pro to hp printer? i used your steps but i still cant print any of my documents.

pls answer this as soon as possible. it's urgent since my school's gonna start in just 3 days.

    Try:
uninstall all printer manufacturer apps and "utilities"
go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners > Print
control-click on your printer in the column on the left
select "Reset Printing System..." and "reset" in the dialog that follows
do a factory reset on your printer. You'll have to consult the printer manual for how.
if you connect to your printer via wifi:
power down everything: modem, router, computer, and printer
power up each item in turn in the same order: modem, router, computer, and printer. Let each power up completely before moving on to the next
enter your wifi password in your printer so it can connect to the network
go back to printers & scanners and it should see your printer and download a driver for it from Apple
    see if it works.
If it doesn't work, try going to the printer manufacturer's website and see if they have updated software.
If that doesn't work, try going to gutenprint Gutenprint for Mac OS X  and see if there is an alternate driver for your printer.

  • Xerox 8560DN pauses when printing from MacBook Pro (Maverick update)

Xerox 8560DN pauses when printing from MacBook Pro using the printer connected to a Windows XP machine. The printer is fully shared, however when I print, it goes to PAUSE. It displays...Ready to print > Printing > and it pauses.
The Maverick update has changed lots of unecessary setups. What was perfectly working before, not it causes problems.
    Any solution?

    Carolyn Samit,
I did it several times without any success. I think that the Maverick update damaged something.
I also deleted, added and change all settings... Not working. Xerox does not have a Maverick driver available, but today apple released a Xerox printer software update (Version 2.3). After the installation, nothing changed.

  • Printing from Macbook Pro to HP Photosmart Plus B210a

    Hi,
I am experiencing difficulty in printing documents from Macbook Pro to HP Photosmart Plus B210a. This has only been a problem for the last 2 weeks.
I think this may be due the most recent update of OS X Mavericks 10.9.3.
I have tried to update printer drivers from HP web, and it indicates that the printer in connected to my network router, and I have been able to run a testprint to the printer.
However when I try to print any documents the print queue seems to be trying to print, but never actually generates an output document.
I am looking for any advice/guidance on how to solve this printing problem.

    Hi Eric,
i note that 10.9.4 is Mavericks.I cannot link directly as it is a wireless printer.
I have tried using the Terminal app, and typed the command as you indicated and i got the response attached.

  • Cannot print from Macbook Air to Lexmark x2650 on Windows XP via wireless network (Linksys e1550)

Unable to print from recently purchased Macbook Air via wireless router (Linksys e1550) that is connected Windows XP which is connected to Lexmark x2650 printer.  Macbook Air is connected to wireless router and able to access internet.  Windows XP printer is set-up for sharing and I am able to see and add printer from Macbook Air.  I have installed Lexmark 2600 series driver on Macbook Air.  Macbook Air sends print job to print queue and print job is released from queue but does not print on Lexmark printer connected to XP.  Any suggestions?

  • How to print from Macbook Pro on a Cannon MP610 printer?

I have recently bought a Macbook Pro, and I have a wireless network set up at home.
I have no problems connecting to the internet or the network. But I can't seem to access the printer. I have a Cannon MP610 Printer. This printer is connected to the PC, which is connected to the modem. The printer is unable to connect directly into the modem which is unfortunate
It's a fairly big network. We have a master pc that is connected to the modem. This master computer also has a usb printer. We have a secondary pc ethernet linked to the master pc, which can connect to the internet and the printer via the ethernet.
The modem is a Thomson TG782T ADSL.
We have 3 windows O/S laptops, and 2 MAC O/S laptops.. No laptop can access the printer. Only the internet.
Can you access a printer from a laptop through the modem through the master computer the the printer?
The printer is turned on, and the PC is always running. The printer and file sharing is turned on.
What would be the least expensive way I could go about fixing this problem?
I have heard about people downloading Gutenprint; so i downloaded it, but couldn't get it to run.
I have tried many different ways, and after adding a new printer and finding it on the network.. is then says it is in the queue list.. but won't print. It just sits there until you cancel it.
    Thanks in advance

How can I use the Gutenprint driver on my Mac? All it does is downloads and installs, but it wont allow me to use it. (Like it doesn't come up under applications or anything).
Installing printers on Mac's is usually a two step process. The first is to install the driver software if it is not on the Mac already and the second is to add the printer queue. OS X 10.6 comes with Gutenprint v5.2.3 already so would be no need to download and install again, unless you customized the OS X installation and selected not to install the printer drivers or you have a model of printer that only a later version of Gutenprint supports. Since your MP610 is listed as a supported model with v5.2.3 then the downloading was probably a waste of your time.
To add the printer when it is shared by Windows you open Print & Fax, select to add ( + ) and then select the Windows icon. This will open a pane showing three columns. The first column is for workgroup names and since you mention you're using XP Home then your workgroup name will be 'mshome'. If your Mac does not see 'mshome' in the first column then we need to look at the IP addresses being used by your computers.
    IP address:121.222.186.51
According to "what is my ip address.com" it says my MacBook Pro and master desktop PC has both the same IP addresses. Is this meant to be correct?
Looking at the IP address listed this is going to be the address of the Thomson router. If all computers were using the same address then this would be a problem but given that you used a web service to tell you the address then this won't be the case.
To see what IP address, subnet mask and gateway address you are have configured, you can use Command Prompt on XP and type "ipconfig /all" (without the quotation marks) and press Enter. This will give you a list of all the network settings in the PC. Write these down for later reference.
For the Mac you can open System Preferences > Network and select which port you are using (Ethernet or Airport). Then in the right pane will be the current IP address. To get more information you can press the Advanced button and then select the TCP/IP tab in the next pane.
How do I create a PMB queue? And how do I find out if I can ping the master PC? (what's your definition of ping?)
It's an SMB queue and I suggest that we leave that process for now. Besides you will need to know the IP address of the XP sharing the printer before we can try that process. So let's just try to get the computers appearing in the Windows Add Printer browser and using the Gutenprint driver instead of the Canon.

  • Unable to print to Canon iR-Adv C5045 from MacBook Pro that is connected to Windows computer and shared on the network

I am unable to print to a Canon iR-Adv C5045 from a MacBook Pro (OS X 10.9.4) that is connected to Windows NT computer and shared on the company network.  I am connected to the network by ethernet.
I was able to add the printer manually by going to Advanced, Windows printer via spoolss, smb://computer name/printer name and used the Canon iR-ADV C5045/5051 driver.
When I print it appears to be printing but nothing comes out.  I checked the completed jobs from the Print Queue and the job is listed.  Checked the print log on the printer and it isn't listed.  Is there a different driver I should be using for this configuration?

You may not have a choice as to what driver you can use. If the ADV C5045 only has the default UFR2 printer kit, then you will have to use the UFR2 driver - which is what you are using now. If you can access the copier, press the Counter Check button on the control panel. Then on the display you will see an entry labelled Check Device Configuration. Select this and scroll down through the pages. You are looking for an entry called PS. If you see it then the Canon does have the optional Postscript printer kit enabled and this will let you use an alternate driver. One suggestion would be to create the printer again using the same setting that you have done already but this time select the Generic Postscript driver included with the OS rather than use the Canon driver. This will help to determine if the driver is the cause.
If there is no PS option you will have to use the UFR2 driver and this could be the problem, as the Canon drivers don't always work well on a Mac via a Windows share. As a test, are you able to create a print queue directly to the Canon rather than via the Windows share? If you can, then this will let you check if the driver currently installed will work, as there can be settings on the copier that can block/stop you from printing. Assuming that you can print to the Canon with a direct connection from the Mac, then we can work on getting the printing via the shared queue. But if it doesn't print directly from the Mac, then it confirms that it may not be the server and more to do with the copier.

  • Wireless Printing from MacBook Pro and Windows 7 laptop through iMac

I have looked everywhere I can think and have not found a solution to this problem:
    I just bought a 21.5" iMac and a Windows 7 laptop. I already had a 15" Macbook Pro.
I have an HP C5280 printer that is now connected via USB to the iMac. All computers use my wireless home network using a Netgear N wireless router.
I cannot figure out how to print wirelessly from either the MacBook or laptop through the iMac. Printer software is installed on all computers and printer sharing is enabled on the iMac.

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
In the Finder go to Help>Mac Help. Select the Index, upper right. Go to S>Sharing printers. You will find instructions for configuring Macs and PCs for printer sharing among the articles available.

  • Print from Macbook Pro to HP PSC 1215 all in one on Windows 7

If I print from my new Macbook pro wirelessly to the HP PSC 1215 All in One connected to a USB port  on a Windows 7 PC, the print job appears in the queue on the Windows 7 PC, the printer on/resume light starts to flash, the printer makes a few clicks, but nothing prints.  Apple support say it's the fault of the HP driver. HP support says the printer is more than 5 years old, so tough, buy a new printer.  Does anyone know how to solve this problem without buying a new printer ?

  • Printing from macbook pro to hp deskjet 3000

Asking for someone else.  He can send documents from his Macbook Pro to his HP Deskjet 3000, but he can't make the printer actually print without a hardwire connection.
Has he missed something in Setup?

If the person is having problems printing wireless, they should read the printer's user manual and/or call HP tech support on how to set up wireless printing.  That is if their model HP can print wireless.
Check HP website for updated drivers for what ever OS this person is using.

  • Wireless printing from MacBook Pro to MacBook through Linksys?

I have a MacBook connected to an Epson printer. Our Internet connection is through a Linksys WRT54G router.
My son just got a MacBook Pro. Both machines are running Leopard.
Can he print wirelessly from the MB Pro through my MacBook connected to the printer? I've got print sharing turned on in both machines, but I can't find any other documentation that tells me how to do this. I've searched and can't find my set up listed there - I see lots of Window to Mac, print servers, Airport Extreme questions. It's so simple, however, that I must have missed it - so forgive me if this has been answered before.

    Patricksgolden:
I have this same setup with a G5 connected to a home network and a linksys wireless router that I connect a new MacBook Pro and my daughter connects a dell laptop. I have two printers connected to the G5 which runs Tiger. I turned on print sharing as indicated by apple documentation. This did not work. I reviewed all the postings on printing using leopard and found the following posting very helpful.
OS X 10.5 client and NON-OS X CUPS server: adding printers, solved.
What I did was update the local CUPS configuration file by going to http://localhost:631/ and editing the configuration file based on the above posting. Then I rebooted by Mac. The printers then appeared in the systems preferences default option. However they still did not work.
Finally I added them manually using the IP option and the LPD selection with the G5 IP address. Make sure you put in the print queue name. The only other change I needed to make was to use the Generic Postscript driver instead of the Epson driver(RX500). It then started to print. Using the Epson driver sent it to the printer however it completed without printing.
I hope this helps. I know it is not the step by step instructions, however if you look at the above thread there is more detail.

  • Network printing from Macbook Pro?

    Here is my setup: Printer->USB to->iMac->ethernet to->Airport Extreme 802.11n->ethernet to->Linksys Switch in another room->ethernet to->Macbook Pro.
    I also can connect wirelessly.
My question: Can I somehow send things to be printed through my network from my Macbook Pro? The printserver included in my airport extreme isn't compatible with my printer so I don't use it, so I just have it connected directly to my iMac in the other room. Thanks.
-hope i didnt make it too confusing-

On the iMac, open System Preferences->Sharing and enable Printer Sharing.
    That should do it.

  • Printing from macbook pro to desktop GI5.

I have got my new macbook pro and was wondering if I was able to get it to print from the USB printer thats plugged into my iMac GI5 wirelessly through the wifi. Both are running snow leopard if that makes a difference, just don't want to have to go upstairs every time, lazy i know but also don't want to have to be swapping the USB's around all the time either.
    any suggestions are welcome.
    Thanks in advance.

That's an easy one. On your iMac go to System Preferences/Printing and enable *Printer Sharing*. On your MBP go to the same Sys Pref and add a printer using the + icon. You will see your shared printer in the upcoming list. Add it and your’re ready to go. Your iMac needs to be on and not sleeping in order to print.
