Printing from my MacBook Pro on my Windows 7 printer.

Until 2 weeks ago I had no issues. I had a Windows XP box with a local Epson printer. From my MacBookPro, I was able to print wirelessly to that printer directly. All I did was select it from my list of printers and off I went.
My XP box died. I replaced it with a Windows 7 box.
I am now trying to set up the printers again on the MacBookPRo to see the Epson that is now local to the Windows 7 box. When I tell my MacBook to look for printers, I can see the Windows 7 box, but before I can see the attached printer, it asks me for a Windows print server Username and Password. I don't have a U/N or P/W for a print server!
How do I get around this? Is this on the Mac side or the Windows side? Where is that request coming from, considering there is no passworded print server running?
I am running Snow Leopard and all updates have been applied.
Any help you can provide to get this running would be extremely appreciated!
Thanks... Paul

My PC username and password is not what it is looking for. I have tried that! Since the PC is only a couple of days old, I can assure you I am the only user and have only set up one user.
It is what it is looking for. There is no other account. But there are other settings in Win7 that can impact your entry of this user information.
Under Control Panel > Network and Internet is the 'Homegroup and sharing options'. Open then and then select the 'Advanced sharing settings'. Select your profile (it should be home/work, public has many lockout settings enabled) and turn off password protected sharing. Then try the password entry on the Mac again.

  • Printing from a MacBook Pro to a Windows XP shared printer

I have a desktop Windows XP pc with a shared HP PhotoSmart 7760 printer connected via USB and a Vista laptop. They connects to the internet via a wireless router. I recently added 2 MacBook Pros and an AirPort base to access the internet with the Mac's. The pc's can "see" each other and print. The Macs cannot see the pc's and the printer.
What I believe is happening is that although the Mac's and pc's use the same cable to get to the internet, they are on separate wireless networks and, thus, cannot see each other. Before I start experimenting too much, I hope to get another opinion as to what could be happening? Can I set the Mac's to use the pc wireless router putting them on the same network? Then would the Mac's see the printer?

    Hi pmackins,

Based on the above, my assumption is that the Printer is connected to the XP PC. The following may help:

When trying to print to my HP color printer, my macbook will only print the document  in black and white. I have  looked at settings and I don't see an option to print to color.

Hmmm...well that narrows down things a little more. Has it ever worked correctly? Have you tried deleting the printer from System Preferences (under the Apple menu) > Printers & Scanners and then re-adding it again? Also, silly question, but have you checked the supply levels to make sure it has color ink in it?
Does the printer work correctly with another computer?
I know it is puzzling. I'm trying to think of all the ways to isolate this to one thing or another.

  • Cannot print from my macbook pro on wireless canon printer mixed enviorment

    Hi,
I recently bought a macbook pro and added it to my home network.  I printed wirelessly to my canon mx870 fine when i first set up.  Now, it will not print.  It does thru the motions of printing but nothing comes out and there is no error.  If i plug the printer in it works.  I have a pc set up to the wireless printer as well.  Not sure if that makes a difference.  That still works.   Any assistance would be appreciated!

Hi can anyone help me? I am having trouble printing from my macbook pro to my brother printer. It worked fine yesterday but now its dissapeared from my options to print.

I have tried plugging in an eternet (blue) cable from the printer to the wireless router, but i dont know how to make my macbook find the wireless printer!
If your printer is like my Canon printer, you'll have to do as Bob suggests - use the Setup on the LCD panel of your printer to set up wifi. Pretty easy with my Canon PIXMA MG8220...

  • Printing from a macbook pro to an HP psc 2355 printer

I need helping printing from a macbook pro to an hp psc 2355 printer. The printer is connected to a pc which runs Windows Vista. The pc is connected to a wireless router (so the PC has to be on to print). Hope this is simple!

You could start by resetting your printing system and then see if the computer sees the printer. http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.6/en/14001.html
Is your wireless network protected by a password? Does it have a name?
I have a wireless HP AIO that I connect thru my wireless router. In other words the wireless router is the hub for the printer so the three notebooks and iTouch can print to it from anywhere in the area.

  • How can I print from my MacBook Pro to Canon MP560 using rear tray?  I can't find that "option" in the print selection possibilities.

How can I print from my MacBook Pro to Canon MP560 using rear tray?  I can't find that "option" in the print selection possibilities.

    Sure can.
With a document open in Pages, select to print so that you can see the print dialog as shown below.
Note that to see this view, you may need to press the Show Details button in the bottom left corner. In the image above, since I have the expanded view displayed, this button changes to Hide Details
So with the view shown, first change the Presets menu to Default Settings. Then click the Layout drop menu and select Quality & Media. Make the changes you want and then click on the Presets menu and select Save Current Settings as Preset...
At the next window, give the Preset a name and select the Only this Printer radio button and then click OK to save it. That's it.
As for the Preset that you already have, if you no longer want this preset then you can delete it via the Show Presets menu pane that you've used already.

  • How do you setup a canon mp620 to print from a Macbook Pro?

How can i print from my MacBook Pro with a canon mp620 printer? I have the printer setup with a PC via USB and want to add the MacBook as a new computer and print wirelessly. I have tried the installation cd and updated drivers from canon website but it still wont work.

I have managed to get my working. Firstly, I googled the CUPS drivers for the printer and then downloaded those from canons website. I then went to print and scan in system preferences and noticed that the printer had appeared there. I believe it was those drivers that made the difference but i was fiddling for hours before that so i cant be 100% sure how i got it to work.

You will need to install an App like Print Central on the iPad to try to print to the printer. It will allow you to print to most printers. Check with their support folks if you need more info.

  • Printing from a MacBook Pro ???

Hi. Is there a way to print from a MacBook pro to a non-wireless compatible printer without having a direct usb connection??? Hope that makes sense. I heard something about using a Time Capsule or air port of some sort but have no idea what that means. New to Mac. Any help v. much appreciated

The information you posted is slightly incorrect, the Airport Express does not provide a USB port for a printer, the Extreme and the TC do.
    Oh
There is a new version of the Express which does appear to have a USB port, apologies.

  • Printing to a Windows Printer from a MacBook Pro

Gidday Folks, my apologies if this has been dealt with but I wasn't able to find a solution that exactly fits my problem. Hope you can help.
I'm using a MacBook Pro in a Windows environment and although it is easy to hook into the network and locate the printer (a Kyocera FS8000-C), it's become a lottery as to whether I can actually print through it. Sometimes I can, sometimes I can't.
It seems the print job will execute IF the 'Shared Printer' category is available in the Page Setup dialog box. If 'Shared Printer' isn't an available option, and I select the Kyocera option, the print job doesn't complete and I get the "... unable to connect via SAMBA etc ..." error message in the print job dialog box.
I remember when connecting my old PowerBook using Jaguar, I installed the gimp print ghosting software. Should I do that here? Tiger has removed the need for gimp print hasn't it? And in any case, the software wouldn't be compatible with the Intel chip would it?
We've just attached a 12" PowerBook (running OS 10.4.6) to the same network and it seemlessly found the printer, set itself up and is printing happily ...
Is it the new Intel chip that might be involved in my printing problem?
    Any advice greatly appreciated.
    Sincerely
    GrahamK

I think I've solved the problem. At least, I've got the MacBook printing to the PC networked printer for the moment.
First of all I installed Gimp-Print; now whether this had a part to play in the end I'm not sure because the G-P software, although Tiger savvy, appears to have been PPC-native. Would this make a difference in the Intel MacBook?
Anyway, next up I followed the directions set out by William White in the document "How to Print to Windows from OSX 10.2" (sorry I don't have a URL for where it was found).
In the Add the Windows printer in the Mac Print Center section he says (I've edited out the extra bits):
4.1 Open the Print Center (Print Setup Utility in OSX 10.4.6) and click "Add Printer" with the Option key held.
4.2 From the main drop down menu select the [Advanced] option.
4.3 Select [Windows Printer via SAMBA] and go to Step 4.4.
4.4 Give the Device a name.
4.5 Enter the printer's Device URI in the form:
    smb://username:password@workgroup/servername/sharedprinter
    4.6 Select the printer type.
4.7 Select the printer driver. (I'd already installed the Kyocera driver)
4.8 Finally, ensure that Windows File Sharing is enabled in the System Preferences Sharing pane,
After a system re-start, the print jobs began rolling.
It was the URI that needed attention, it seems the password was what was tripping the system and once I got that right everything began to work.
Some of these directions might be obsolete in Tiger, e.g. I'm not sure 4.8 is essential and as I said above I'm not exactly sure if the Gimp-Print installation played a part, but I'm up and printing for th moment.
    Thanks iFelix for your help.

  • Printing from a Macbook pro using ePrint.

Would like to print to an HP printer (ePrint) from my Macbook Pro.  I followed the instructions to download the software, started installation and received a message telling me to close the HP LaserJet Professional Utility.  Unfortunately, I cannot close this utility and now cannot stop the install.  HELP!

    Hi @vikimac
Welcome to the HP Support Forums.  I understand that you have encountered an error when trying to install a HP LaserJet printer driver onto your MacBook.
To better assist you, would you please provide some additional information?
What model and product number of HP LaserJet do you have?  How Do I Find My Model Number or Product Number?
How is the printer currently connected (USB cable, ethernet, or wireless)? Please note that not all HP printers support all methods of connectivity.
What version of Mac OS X are you using? Mac OS X: How Do I Find Which Mac OS X Version Is on My Computer?
In the meantime please try Force Quitting the installation and then please restart your MacBook.  That should allow you continue using your MacBook while we figure out what is occurring with the installation.
