Printing from our new Mac Os 10.5.2 everything seems 20% darker
Can anyone shed any light on this matter. We have recently install Mac Os 10.5.2 and a new ripit system. Having moved from some old G3's we are having difficulty when it comes to printing old files using the new system. I find that when we print to even the colour proofer jobs and images seem to be imaging darker by at least 15% -20%. Is there something I am missing. We are working from Illustrator PDFS and also using Quark to output to film. Is it something to do with colour matching. I've notice that old files don't match the current cmyk settings on the new mac. Any help would gratefully recieived.

You don't mention how long a delay you experience when restarting, but I can offer some "general" info and suggestions.
Your Mac will look at all the available resources when starting or restarting, and this includes any disks in the optical drive. PRAM is consulted for the chosen startup disk and/or system. The length of time this takes depends on your settings, how you are restarting, and whether or not something is present in the optical drive.
I find that it is quickest and easiest to move to Windows by simply choosing restart..., then holding the "Option" key to open the Startup Manager. I then use an arrow key to choose the OS (Windows), and press <RETURN> to continue.
To return to OS X, all I need do is simply restart. In this way, I never need to bother changing the startup disk, which is stored in PRAM.
In any case, a disk present in the optical drive must be accessed before the Startup Manager can do its job. For this reason, it helps to first eject any disk before restarting.

It depends on the printer. iOS devices can only print directly to AirPrint printers. All AirPrint printers are wireless but not all wireless printers are capable of using AirPrint.
To print directly from an iPad / iPhone you will need an AirPrint compatible printer or another device to act as a print server. That can be a Mac computer running Printopia ($19.95 with free trial) or handyPrint (donation - supported). The Mac must be "on" but may be asleep for them to work. Equivalent PC options may exist but you're on your own finding them.
You can also buy this standalone print server:

These options enable you to use any printer available to your network, even older ones that may predate AirPrint by decades.
Otherwise you will need to buy an AirPrint printer or multifunction device. -
I have aperture 3.2.4 on my laptop and have the serial number, but just bought a new MAC and I can't get the Ver 3.0 link to work. Anyone know how to move it from my laptop to our new mac?

That link is no longer available. Use "Migration Assistant" to copy your Applications from your old mac to the new Mac, then immediately run software update. Aperture Version 3.2 will not run on your new mac with Mavericks, you will have to Upgrade to version 3.4.5 at least - you can download this update from the Support page: Aperture 3.4.5
Then launch Aperture and enter your registration key and try now too update from version 3.4.5 to 3.5 from the AppStore. The AppStore will change your Aperture registration to an AppStore version, so you will able to reinstall by downloading from the AppSTore in future.
If you want transfer only Aperture and no other applications, do it manually: You will have to copy not only the application but folders from the libraries as well:
/Applications/Aperture.app
/Library/Application Support/Aperture/
~/Library/Application Support/Aperture/

Why is my printer NOT printing colour from my new mac?
I downloaded the HP driver, but it didn't seem to do anything.
The test page printed in colour, but no document will print in colour and I don't see an option in settings to print in colour.
And yes it is a newish cartridge, so there is ink in it.
My old mac didn't seem to have a problem with this.
How do I print in colour from my new mac?Have you installed the driver from the link I posted? Have you set up the printer from System Preferences>Print & Scan selecting your printer? There is a symbol next to your printer which would indicate not.

I try to tick mail in the cloud menu but get an error message telling me "iCloud mail couldn't be enabled from the iCloud Preference Pane. Open mail and add iCloud account from Mail preferences"
when I do that i get the message " the icloud IMAP server p15-imap.mail.me.com is not responding. Try checking the network conection, and that the server name is correct. Otherwise, the server may be temorarily unavailable. If you continue you may not be able to recieve messgaes.
we thought the incoming server name looked odd (p15- imap.mail.me.com) but its greyed out and can't be edited even though other 3rd party accounts can.
really don't want to have to ditch the iCloud email account as i use it the most & loads of friends contact me on it
But been trying with my Dad all afternoon to fix it and are both stumped.

Problems migrating PS CS5 to our new Mac
We just purchased a new iMac and are starting to transfer all our stuff over from our old Mac mini. The first order of business was to move over Lightroom, and that went fine; it works just like on the old machine. However, we're having trouble getting PS to work.
We deactivated PS on the old machine and downloaded the disk image for PS from Adobe. When we ran the installer, it accepted our serial number, and completed with no problems. However, starting PS gives the message "Could not initialize Photoshop failed to initialize CoolType." There's an OK button which just makes the application quit. After scratching our heads a bit and not making progress, we tried running the uninstaller and then reinstalling from scratch--same result. We found some suggestions dealing with such a problem that involved users on network file systems, but we of course don't have anything like that. This is for an iMac with OS X version 10.6.6. Any ideas? We have no clue where to start.David E Long wrote:

A very wise move.
In my experience gained when helping troubleshoot a substantial number of Macs over the years, "migrating" either OS files, applications, or program files is a guarantee of endless grief in the long run. Others disagree.
My advice is to install from the original media. Data files have to be copied, transferred or migrated, of course.

I'm running Adobe 9 pro on snow leopard and when I save or print from word for mac 14 the bottom gets cuts off. Can someone help?
Ah! You're creating a PDF out of Word through Acrobat. The cutoff is most likely being affected by the printer chosen.
When you call up the print dialogue in Word, check to see what printer is being used. If it's a typical inkjet printer, Acrobat is using the print margins of that printer as the cutoff area. Since most such printers can't print to the last inch and half or so of the paper, that's where it would be cut off.
Near the bottom, under the preview of the document, click on the Page Setup button. It doesn't really matter which printer you select here. Under Paper Size, choose Manage Custom Sizes. Under the Non-Printable Area heading, choose the same printer and set the paper size you're using.
Note that the unprintable margins for that printer will be filled in automatically. That's what's being cut off. Click the + button to create a modified version. The default will be "Untitled". Give it a new name if you want. Then set all of the margins to zero. Click OK. Now you'll have that as a choice under Paper Size. Doesn't matter that the actual printer can't use this setting since you're going to a PDF. Click OK to get back to the main Word print dialogue.
Now choose Save as Adobe PDF. It should give you an exact duplicate of what's on screen in Word since as far as Acrobat is concerned, your "printer" has no unprintable margins. -

We bought the non-membership version of Lightroom in January 2013 and are wondering how to move it to our new Mac. I thought I had figured it out and downloaded lightroom, but the trial version won't give me any options to enter my serial number since it's part of Creative Cloud. Help!

I copied iPhoto library from old Mac to NAS. I cannot access the library from my new Mac
I've a nice new MacBook Pro (OS X 10.9.5) with iPhoto version 9.5.1. I decided to move my iPhoto library from my old MBP (running iPhoto 7.1.5) to a Synology NAS and expected I'd be able to open it from the new Mac.
I can see the library on the NAS from the new MAC. Unfortunately when I select it using option key on iPhoto launch or trying to open directly from the library in Finder, I end up with iPhoto open and showing "No photos". I've tried using iPhoto Library Manager and this can't select the library either.
I can open the library on the NAS from my old Mac OK.
Does anyone have an idea what I'm missing here?iPhoto Libraries cannot be located on a NAS driver. Read this Apple document, iPhoto: Issues with FAT32-formatted drives - Apple Support, and note the last sentence of the first paragraph.
They must be located on a drive formatted OS X Extended (journaled) with ownership set to be ignored (if an external HD). A NAS is a headless computer with a file system and file access requirements that are not compatible with iPhoto's Library structure. -
When watching my Apple TV (3rd gen) the picture jumps a few frames every few seconds, this happens when I rent a film or play back from my new Mac Pro, my Wifi is the Airport Express.
These may be different issues, but lets look at rentals first.
Poor motion can result from mismatched output. If your source is 24 or 30 fps you should set the output of the Apple TV to 60 Hz, for 25 fps content use 50 Hz.
Additionally motion software on the TV itself can cause the picture to jump, check your TV settings and turn off any motion settings in use, -

When using the airplay from my iPhone or iPad the picture and audio works well. No breaking of picture or audio.
When I try do the same from my new mac book pro the picture and audio keep breaking up, which is very frustrating considerng the new mac should have a better connection then that of older devices.

The issue has nothing to do with the router as the same wireless connection is used for the iPhone and iPad.
Looking for some genuine help..WiFi connections will always be flaky and re-liable at best. Especially with home grade WiFi hardware. You will save your self a lot of headache if you use Wired connections for the MBP and ATV.

Why would that be? They are all using the same wireless standard, connecting to the same wireless router. The MBP being a year or two newer does not magically make it's network connection faster just because you think it should be.

That is in fact exactly what it is. Or more specifically using WiFi.

No they arn't. They may all be connecting to the same device, but they each have a serrate connection, on different frequencies, in different locations, that are getting hit with different random levels of background noise and interference. -
