Printing from preview 5.0.2 and OS-10.6.4

Printing under OS-10.4.11 produced a setup menu with a small preview of the page and you could change orientation, fit page, select which page to print, layout, borderless printing, duplex printing, etc. On my new iMac with OS-10.6.4 I get no choices for printing, no page setup, no fitting to page and I cannot change orientation, cannot select pages to print, no duplexing, etc. I am using the same canon printer and the new iMac had the driver already loaded. What is changed, am I missing something, Do I need to go to Canon to get something other than the driver Apple has in the OS?

Ohhhh ohhhhh ohh.
glad to have you and others like you about. Moving into this new computer has not been as easy as I hoped, all these things need to be set, I cannot imagine why the abbreviated box is the default, but now I know.
Thank you!

  • When printing from Preview, the document prints with large print and many lines added and pages added

When printing from Preview, the document prints with large print and many lines added and pages added. Why does this happen?

Thank you!!! That was the problem--scale was set at 200% (don't know why)--when I reduced it to 100% it printed perfectly.
Thanks again for helping me resolve this problem.

  • Can not print from preview after Lion Update

I can't print from preview since I updated to Lion. After I hit command P or select print from the file tab preview totally freezes up and gives me the spinning wheel of death until I force quit preview. I have no issues printing from anything else, such as word, excel, web pages.  So I don't think it's a printer/driver error.  Help?

I would still mention what printer you have and make sure you have the latest printer driver.

  • Printing from Preview in TS Environment

Using Crystal Reports XI with the latest fixes on a windows 2000 advanced server with TS Enabled. Logged into the TS with admin rights. I can run a report and print directly to a printer just fine. If I have enable preview, the report runs and the output comes to the view screen. If I attempt to print from here, the report will not print.
I have logged into the server with the same name from the console, and this behaviour does not occur. Printing from preview works just fine.
If I have the print queue open when I try to print from a client session, I can see that Crystal is writing a file to the print queue, but it is 0 zero bytes...
This occurred after installation of Service Pack 2, and I have tried to completely unistall crystal reports from the server and reinstall with no joy.
I sure could use some advice.
    Thanks...

So here is how I fixed this problem.
I uninstalled all crystal files from the server, including the .dll's that came with the program I was try to print from. Used the manual uninstall procedure to completely remove crystal XI from the server. Restarted the server. Reinstalled Crystal XI and applies SP 3. The file that Business objects referenced commonXIwin_chf.zip did not fix it. SP3 Did--- Happy now

  • Printing photos from iPhoto 9.5.1 on my printer yeilds garish two color prints. Exporting the photo from iPhoto to desktop then printing from Preview works fine. How can I get good prints from iPhoto?

When printing photos in iPhoto 9.5.1 with my HP inkjet printer the multitude of colors in the photos are reduced to two, Magenta and Yellow. If the photos are exported to my desktop (MacPro) and printed from Preview, the colors in the prints are fine. How do I get iPhoto to print the colors correctly?

    Brad
What settings did you use in the Export Dialogue?
When you go File -> Export you get a tabbed box with various options. In the File Export tab you can choose to scale the pics, or keep them the same size, change or retain the format.

  • Hp printer software update 3.0, now unable to print from preview

I have a mid 2007 iMac with a 2.4 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo running OS 10.9.5 Build 13F34. I updated the HP Printer Software Update Version 3.0 on Oct 9, 2014. I have a HP Laserjet 3050 All in One printer that has worked flawlessly.
Now when I try to print PDFs or Jpegs from Preview, the "ready light" on the printer flashes a couple of time but nothing prints out. I cannot print from Preview. I cannot print PDFs from Adobe Reader. I can print Jpegs from iPhoto.
I have time machine. How can I go back to the previous HP printer software version and will I mess up my computer by trying to do so?

Yeah, I thought that "update" just updated Apple's printer drivers that it stores on the computer.  I didn't know that it actually applied the drivers.  At any rate, those are presumably Apple's drivers, not HP's.  The printer manufacturer's drivers usually have more functionality than Apple's.
Sorry, I can't tell you where to look for that driver in Time Machine.  However, I have another suggestion.
First, power down and unplug the computer for 15 seconds before rebooting.  If that doesn't work, then the next question is:  Have you ever downloaded and run HP's Mac software for this printer?  IF SO, you might try deleting your printer in system preferences, and then adding it back, however, when it's found, do not accept the default AirPrint software but check the dropdown list to see if there's an option for HP software before continuing.
If you've never installed HP's software, then downloading it from HP and running it's installation may resolve your problem.

  • Printing from Preview produces error message "The file couldn't be opened".

    Hi,
Ever since the upgrade to OS X 10.8, I get the error message "The file couldn't be opened" each time I want to print from Preview. I just have to click "OK" and then everything prints fine, but if anyone knows how to get rid of this message, it would be even better!
I have run "Verify disk permissions" without success.
The system is on an SSD volume whereas my home volume is on an internal HD. But other users with (smaller) accounts residing on the system volume have the same problem.
Each time I open the print dialog, the following message appears in the logs:
com.apple.Preview.TrustedBookmarksService[2159]: Failure to de-serialize bookmark data file.
I removed  files related to Preview in ~/Library/Preferences/
There is no *.plist file in ~/Library/Application Support/Preview
    Thanks!

    Start Pages app
    Create a blank document
    File > Save or <Command>+S
Select Mac Device and find your user folder or favorite, Desktop (not iCloud)
Error: the file "Untitled.pages" couldn't be opened!?!
Repeat giving the document a different name and it works
Since when do we write error messages with "n't"?
Usually a well written error message offers a suggestion as to what you might do about it?
Since it says opened and I clicked on Save, there is a bug in there somewhere.
All I was trying to do today was copy and paste some text from a website into numbers spreadsheet
Both Edit > Paste options but the text in one cell so I tried to save it as a text file first to try and import the data
Text Edit does not have a text only export format so before loading Terminal and starting vi or emacs, I tried pages. I'll go try XCode's editor or my Windows 7 vm with notepad and openoffice
I miss the old Pages with the Appleworks importer, this one needs more Quality Assurance Testing IMHO

  • Very Frustrating! Printing from Preview or Photoshop - not happening again!

It's Christmas time, and I'm printing my home made cards... so I've done all the artwork, printed a test from Photoshop, and that was fine... make some changes, and now it won't print! Exported it all as a PDF, try printing from Preview, and the same thing happens.
Same thing happened a couple of weeks ago, but I can't remember how I fixed it! The job comes up in the printer spool, and then vanishes. Looking at the printer history log, it thinks it's printed it, but nothing. I can do a test page from the printer dialog, I can print from the web, but not from Photoshop or Preview
    Help!
This is driving me nuts I tell you!
    Cheers

First, do you have the original PSD to go back to (and if you don't, you now know to never kill off your source). Second, the JPG now has no fonts embedded, textures etc are irrelevant. So what is the resolution? Check out the rez of your printer and make sure the document's rez is no higher. Generally, anything more than 600dpi for home use is wasted, though some of the really high quality inkjets can go much higher. If your jpeg is very high rez (or if its dimensions are really big) resize it to be exactly the print size and try again.

  • HP1536dnf won't print from Preview

    Hello
I bought a HP 1536dnf laser printer on the Apple store site some months ago, and have never liked it, but it worked ok, until today it suddenly will no longer print files in the Preview program (two small pdf files) - this was never a problem until today.  The odd thing is, the printer will still print other files (e.g., files in Excel and Word), and I have not changed any settings or downloaded any upgrades to either the printer or the other programs.
Can anyone suggest where I might begin with this problem - if possible, I want to avoid having to send back the printer.
    Thanks in advance. K

I'm printing from the same model laptop and have no issues.  Suggest running the HP utility and check the firmware version.  My printer is running firmware version 2014-06-30 and is working flawlessly from any one of five other Macs of various vintage, all running 10.10.2.
Try updating the printer's firmware if yours is old and see if it helps your performance.
Current Firmware version is 2014-10-23 and can be found here:

  • Printing from preview the colors come out inverted

I have a PDF that I scanned in myself and the first time I printed it it printed just the way it was supposed to. The next time I opened up the file in preview it looked normal on my screen but when I went to print it the output in the printer had the colors inverted. I have tried printing from preview and adobe acrobat and it printed the same the blacks came out white and the whites came out black. So I tried printing it from a windows computer and the file printed as it should, the colors were normal not inverted.
Does anyone know how to fix this? It doesn't happen to every PDF just a few that I have.
    Thanks

    Anyone?

  • Print from Preview not working

I wanted to print a 6-page pdf file yesterday, so I opened with the default Preview, looked fine on screen, clicked print, right number of pages came out, but it was all horizontal lines and little marks, nothing like the text in the file, more like the PostScript didn't get interpreted right.
Open the same file with Adobe, looks the same, prints correctly, so it's aparently not the file, nor the HP 3390 printer (ok I admit there is some small chance) but something about Preview. I have no recollection of the last time I tried printing from Preview, if I ever did, so I don't know how long this has been a problem. Coincidentally, I upgraded from 10.5.5 to 10.5.6 earlier in the day.
Is there some control in Preview or somewhere else I've got set wrong? Is this a new or recognized bug in Preview? Something else I'm not thinking about?

Just curious if there has been any update to this problem. I have experienced the exact same as OP from a downloaded pdf.

  • Printing from Preview does not bleed to edge of paper

I am not sure if this is the right place to post, but it is is an issue with the OS, I think.
When I print from ipad or iphone, my printer has no problem bleeding the image and printing onto the entire page, L or XG size paper (I am in Asia currently).  However, when I print from preview, it does not work.  It always creates a border around the image.
I have added a custom size paper for the photo paper I am using and the printer settings show that the unprintable area is zero on all sides.
I also select "fill the paper" from the print settings and the preview on screen clearly shows that it is filling the entire paper.
Yet, when I print the document, there is always a small border around the entire image.
Anyone have any ideas how to fix this?  I can workaround it, but it would be great if it just worked from Preview.
    Thanks in advance!

Well, my paper size is not listed, so I had to do a custom size.  So, I put in the exact size of the paper, which is KG size (Japan photo size) and is 102 x 152 mm.  I also have L size in there which is 89 x 127 mm.  Then, I put the non-printable area size as zero on all four sides.
Is it simply that my paper dimmensions are wrong?  I took it from the package and from wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Photo_print_sizes
Perhaps I should use 100 x 150 for KG size?

  • I have to select a file – get Info – and change – open with and change from preview to another program and CHANGE ALL everytime I boot up

Why do I have to select a file – get Info – select – open with – and change from Preview to another program and click CHANGE ALL with every file extention everytime I boot up.

    Back up all data.
This procedure will unlock all your user files (not system files) and reset their ownership and access-control lists to the default. If you've set special values for those attributes on any of your files, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. Do so only after verifying that those settings didn't cause the problem. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it.
    Step 1
If you have more than one user account, and the one in question is not an administrator account, then temporarily promote it to administrator status in the Users & Groups preference pane. To do that, unlock the preference pane using the credentials of an administrator, check the box marked Allow user to administer this computer, then reboot. You can demote the problem account back to standard status when this step has been completed.
Triple-click the following line to select it. Copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):
    { sudo chflags -R nouchg,nouappnd ~ $TMPDIR.. ; sudo chown -Rh $UID:staff ~ $_ ; sudo chmod -R u+rwX ~ $_ ; chmod -R -N ~ $_ ; } 2> /dev/null
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning not to screw up. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The command will take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear, then quit Terminal.
    Step 2 (optional)
The first step should give you usable permissions in your home folder. This step will restore special attributes set by OS X on some user folders to protect them from unintended deletion or renaming. You can skip this step if you don't consider that protection to be necessary.
Boot into Recovery by holding down the key combination command-R at startup. Release the keys when you see a gray screen with a spinning dial.
When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select
    Utilities ▹ Terminal
from the menu bar. A Terminal window will open.
In the Terminal window, type this:
    resetpassword
That's one word, all lower case, with no spaces. Then press return. A Reset Password window will open. You’re not  going to reset a password.
Select your boot volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
    Select
     ▹ Restart
    from the menu bar.

  • Why are prints from Preview cut off at bottom of page

When I print a PDF from Preview the print has about 3/4" cut off the bottom of a portrait document or from the right of a landscape document.. When I print the same document from Acrobat Reader, it prints correctly. I use Page Setup before printing. The scaling in the other direction seems correct which makes the cut-off a mystery.
I prefer Preview for PDFs as it is much faster than Acrobat Reader. The cut-off prints have caused me grief when I have not detected them. What is going on here?

I have the same problem and can confirm it also happens in Leopard. There was traffic on a similar Leopard issue printing landscape to Windows shared printers that was fixed in 10.5.2, but it doesn't seemed to be solved for my situation (printing to CUPS shared printer). Note that it seems to be a bug in the way Preview creates a PDF for printing, since Adobe Reader works fine, and "lpr <filename>" from the command line will also work.
If you have any more info since you posted, I would be interested.
