Printing from Vista to printer connected to iMac

Wireless network (2Wire router) setup with Vista PC, NEW GREAT iMac intel pc (OS X 10.4, and Windows XP Pro pc. Epson Stylus CX3200 connected to iMac. Can print from iMac, print from XP laptop via network (after using Bonjour), but can't get very far with Vista laptop. Understand no Bonjour for Vista.
Does anyone know how to resolve this dilemma....I am new to Mac, so be kind. Much thanks in advance.

I just learned that Mac's printer is shown to network as a *PostScript printer* regardless of its type. The guide http://www.ifelix.co.uk/tech/3012.html (for Windows XP) tells how you have to define your printer's name. But you must select a driver for a Apple printer (b/w of color matching yours), don't use the printer's native driver (unless it is a PS printer).
There is no Apple drivers available in my Vista Premium. But fortunately PostScript is well standardized and you can select from any of PS-drivers. i took +HP Color LaserJet 4700 PS+ and now my +Epson Stylus Photo 870+ works fine!

    Hi Duane,
Thanks for clarifying the hardware setup. Using the S-video connection from Hi8 to the DV converter is a good workflow. If you are showing a few errant lines at the bottom, that is a by-product of analog tape and please keep in mind that they are likely in the "overscan" area which normally does not show up to the TV viewer, though you see it in the edit software because you see the full overscan image edge-to-edge. So you probably don't have to worry about that, but if it bugs you, you can use the CROP effect to remove, or create a black title overlay to "hide" that stuff. As you said earlier, you can scale the whole picture up, but that is going to soften the image, not good.
As for shrinking the picture - this is only helpful when producing HD content (i.e Blu-ray) and mixing in some SD source material. I see this used on HD documentaries a lot. When they need to show some older SD footage, it is shown "actual size" over some sort of background. By showing the SD clip at actual size, it is not scaled at all and keeps it's quality on the HD display. If making a DVD, which is standard definition, then there is nothing to gain from this practice and it would in fact make things worse because you are reducing the resolution!
For a 75-minute project, I would use CBR 7.0 encoding to MPEG-2 for DVD.

  • Printing From iBook To Printer on a Vista, Can't see Vista shared printers

Printing From iBook To Printer on Windows Vista Desktop, Can't see shared printer on a Vista machine from a Mac, although Windows notebooks find it immediately. When same machine is booted into XP the priners share perfectly with both of my iBooks, but when the same machine is booted into Vista with the printer shared etc, the iBooks don't see the printer. Other Windows machines on the newtork do see the shared printers in Vista.
I have previously always had success sharing printers on Windows XP machines with my iBooks. . However upon installing Vista on my desktop I find I can no longer find the printer in the Mac's printer setup utility. When I dual boot back to XP everything works fine, but on the same machine when I boot into Vista I am unble to see the printers. The Mac printer setup utility finds the Vista machine on the network, but the printers are never visible. Is their some secret or channge in Vista that prevents Mac's running , in my case,Tiger 10.4.8 from seeing a shared printer on a computer running Vista
On the Vista machine, if I boot into XP The printer is shared and Windows notebooks can print to it, but neither of my iBooks can see the Printers when Vista is running.

After none of these hints worked for me I plugged my Xerox Phaser 6120 into an airport express base station via USB. Even though Apple does not say that the Bonjour for Windows printer wizard works for Vista, it does. Download it from http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/bonjourforwindows.html and install it on your PC.

That might have been the situation for the beta's and first RC's, but I have a final build. Plus the fact that other Windoze notebooks see the printer on the Vista box just fine leads one to believe it is a mac/Vista specific issue.
If anyone actually has experience with a MAC and Vista , I would appreciate hearing from you.

  • Would like to print from laptop to printer at home. Printer is ethernet connected to NetGear Router

    HP PAvilion dv1000, Windows XP
Would like to print from laptop to printer at home.  Printer is ethernet connected to NetGear Router.
I had been able to print wirelessly from laptop to HP 7310 Officejet all-in-one, but now all I get is "document failed to print" message.  I can get documents to print on this printer using my smart phone, but not the laptop.
I have used "find printer" button on print screen and can see the printer to select.
    Any suggestions?

  • How to print from a remote printer.

I have a HP computer in my office running windows XP connected by a cable to a Linksys router, also in the office is an HP all-in-one printer connected wirelessly to the router.  In the living room 50 feet away, I have another HP computer, connected wirelessly to the network, running windows XP and a smaller HP all-in-one printer.
I have been attempting to print from the office printer, using the living room computer, without success.  Every time I try, the living room printer prints the document.
Does anyone know how to configure these computers and printers to achieve the results I want, mainly printing on the office printer from the living room computer?
    Aloha, Bob

Go into Control Panel > Printers.  Delete either the problem computer or both computers from the list.
    Re-add them:
    1. Click "Start" button --> Printers and Faxes.
    2. Under Printer Tasks, click "Add Printer".
    3. Click "Next" button on the Add Printer Wizard window.
    4. Select "Local printer attached to this computer". Deselect "Automatically detect and install My Plug and play printer". Click "Next".
    5. Under Select a Printer Port option, select "Create a new port" and select "Standard TCP/IP Port" and click "Next" button.
    6. In the "Welcome to the Add Standard TCP/IP printer port wizard" make sure that the printer is turned on and connected to same network that your computer is connected to. Click "Next" button.
    7. Under "Add Standard TCP/IP Printer Port" enter the printer's IP address. Click "Next" then click "Finish".
    8. Now, select HP from the list of manufacturers, select your printer from the list of Printer models and click 'Next' button.
    9. If you can't find your printer, you'll need to find the install CD and use the "Have Disk" option to select one of the hp*.ini files. Alternatively, you can select another HP printer model from the same type.
    10. Add the print spooler name and click "Next".
    11. Click "Next"
    12. Click "Next" and then "Finish"

  • Can't print from safari to hp 4620 appears to print but does not first to print from safari notes print no problem any suggestions?

Can't print from safari to hp 4620 appears to print but does not first time i have attempted to print from safari , notes print fine no problems. It is like on a desktop my print is sitting in the queue there are error messages only the usual print dialogue. I've turned the printer off and back on with no luck any suggestions?

That's very strange.  See if clearing the cache in Safari will make it work.  I'll include the steps below.  If that doesn't help, install a different browser, such as Opera, to see if that will print from pages that Safari won't.  If it will, then something is wrong with Safari.  If it doesn't print, then the web pages might have printing blocked.  There are sites that are doing that for copyright reasons.  Let me know what you find.
To clear the cache on Safari:
    Open Settings.
    Select Safari
    Touch Clear Cache.
    Select Clear.
    Touch Clear Cookies.
    Select Clear.
    Touch Clear History.
    Select Clear.

Thank you everyone. I figured it out. I thought that you can use regular paper to print pictures from photos on Ipad. This is not possible. I was able to use regular print paper to print from my mail. My problem is solved!!

  • While printing from word appl. printer after each line puts in number of page,

while printing from word appl. printer after each line puts in number of page, so I do not print 3 pages but 5 instead. What to do?

What printer models is this intended for?  I assume it is aimed at the lower end inkjets, with the suggestion of loading 10-25 sheets of paper.

  • Accessing iMac shared printer from Vista

I have a Canon MP470 connected to my leopard iMac and it works fine from the iMac. I have set it to Share.
On my Vista laptop I can see it and add it as the default printer. But nothing actually prints. When I open the status of the printer in Vista I see Access Denied, unable to connect.
I have installed Bonjour - but to be honest not really sure what that is or whether I needed to configure it or not...
    Any ideas...
    Eric

after installing bonjour... there should be an add printer option in the Bonjour folder off the Start > All Programs menu.
if you installed it using add printer under Printers and Faxes... it likely won't work right. Bonjour is a app that allows for easy networking of computers, drives, and other shared devices... including apps like iChat and iTunes sharing. It's pretty swanky and works really well in my experience compared to other windows protocols.

  • Print from ibook to printer connected to vista PC

    Hi folks.
I used to be able to print from my ibook to a samsung laser printer connected to my windows XP PC over a network.
I just recently upgraded to a vista PC and I tried to set up the same printing scheme using my vista PC as the print server. I enabled printer and file sharing on the vista PC and verified that it works since I can print from other windows XP machines in the network. However when I try to add the same printer on my ibook, I can see the vista PC, but the printer is not offered. Is there anything else I need to do?
on the ibook, I select "print & fax" in the system preferences
    - select the "+" button to add a printer
    - select the "more printers" button
    - select "windows printing"
    - find the workgroup that my vista PC lives on
    - my vista PC's name appears in the list, I select it.
    - it asks me to login. I use my login from my Vista PC and it says "unable to connect to server using the provided psasword and username"
    - I tried creating a new account with a different user name and password and that didn't work either.
    - I checked that my caplocks was not on.
    Any ideas out there?
    sam.

I'm a recent mac convert who had been banging his head on this for about a week and have searched high and low for a solution to this one. Well, I finially got it, just finished printing an email from Mail to a Brother printer connected to my Vista PC upstairs... following my short celebratory dance my first thought was to try to save some people the hassle I had...
using the windows printing option doesn't seem to work with Vista, you need to turn on LPD printing options under Add Windows Features control panel on Vista... Go to Print Services and enable all 3 options in there. Then on your Mac go to the printer setup and click to add a printer. Hold Option and click more printers. In the drop down choose advanced, then LPD printing. In the window give the printer a meaningful name and in the address add the computer and printer so it looks like lpd://vistapc/printername. Choose the driver and there you go. If you print and the printer stops before sending try it again with the IP instead of the pcname... I had to do that instead of the computer name for mine to work.
    Hope it helps

  • Cannot print from Vista

On both my Mac systems, I can print easily. My printer is connected to the Airport Extreme (UFO). But on both my Windows Vista (64-bits), I cannot print at all.
My printer is Brother HL-2140 if anyone wants to know. I download the drivers from the manufacturer's website. Then I download bonjour also. I install and setup bonjour to get the printer working. It was able to detect and install it correctly (with the drivers). But when I launch firefox and try to print any page, it doesn't do it!
The weird thing is this is how I did it with my Windows XP partition on my Mac, and it works. Just Vista really hates me or something is wrong.
    Any ideas?
I also tried their "driver deployment wizard" thing to help me setup a printer over the network but it doesn't even detect it.

I browsed around and I found this solved my problem.
