Printing from windows 2000 to mac os x

Hi,
I have a Printer (HP PSC 1510 allinone) connected and working from a G4 imac running Mac OS 10.4.10. Window sharing and Printer Sharing are both running. I would like to print to this printer from a PC laptop across a wireless network. The PC is running Windows 2000 pro.
I can log in to the imac and share files, the printer is also displayed. Drivers are installed on both computers and i have added the printer as a "network printer". When i try to print from word on the laptop the document seems to just evaporate in transit.
Is there a sure way to print from this setup that anyone knows?
thanks in advance

its

windows responds with:
"Could not connect to the printer. You either entered a printer name that was incorrect or the specified printer is no longer connected to the server. Click Help for further information."
The address is correct of course.
I tried this method because Bonjour printer setup throws the ghastly
"You do not have sufficient access to your computer to connect to the selected printer." every time in Windows 2000 as well despite the fact that i'm logged in as administrator on both machines. I'm wondering if this is a permissions problem but where?

  • Printing from Windows XP to Mac mini

    Hi,
May i know who has a successful story of printing from Windows XP to Mac or from mac to window xp.
I have tried all the instructions in the book, and it doesn't work.
I am printing from my mac mini to our printer in the office who has xp on it.
The printer is canon i560 but it doesn't work.
Please share with me what your expereinces is.
    Thanks

  • Continued issues with printing from Windows laptop to Mac

I have an iMac running Tiger (10.4.8) with a Brother MFC-8640D attached via USB. The iMac is connected to a Linksys wireless router via Ethernet cable. I have two Windows laptops (Sony Vaio and Dell Inspiron), both running XP; they connect wirelessly to the Internet and to the iMac.
I used Bonjour for Windows to set up the Brother printer. Initially, I used the Windows driver, but my print jobs would show as completed but not actually print. Following the suggestions in several posts, I used the Apple Laserwriter PS driver. What happens now is that the print job stops and can't be restarted.
Can anyone tell me what I should try next? Someone mentioned setting up a "raw queue" on the Mac, but I don't know how to do that.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

I would like to be able to print through a wireless network from my Dell laptop through the Mac desktop that is connected to a Mac-enabled printer. When I had a Windows desktop this was not a problem, but when I switched to the Mac desktop, can't print. Anyone have any suggestions short of buying a print server? Thanks

Another way to find the Mac queue name is to highlight the printer in Print Center and do Get Info (command-i).

  • Can't print from Windows to Mac

I've always had trouble printing to a printer attached to my Mac from Windows. Bonjour used to see the printer, but I could only occasionally actually print. For a while everything but PDFs worked, then even text stopped. As a last resort I tried the "reset printing system" option in System Preferences and then re-added the printer, but now Bonjour doesn't see it at all. I can browse to it via SMB at \\macname\printername, but all I can do is print a test page as Administrator. Regular print jobs and non-admin test pages just disappear - not in the queue on either client or server. Setting it up as an IPP printer instead didn't help.
I'm at the end of my rope here, and any troubleshooting tips are welcome. I'm an IT guy, so technical details are very welcome: TCP ports to check for listeners on, services to look for, registry settings on the Windows end, anything.
    Details:
    Server:
    Mac OS X 10.6.2
HP Photosmart D7560 printer connected via USB using HP Photosmart driver
    Clients:
Windows XP, Windows Vista (32-bit), Windows 7 (32-bit and 64-bit)
All on the same LAN (wireless), no trouble with TCP/IP connectivity (can ssh into the Mac from the Windows boxes, etc). Both Windows Firewall and UAC are turned off on the Vista/7 boxes, guest access is enabled on the Mac in Sharing preferences...
    Any help welcome.
    Thanks!

I followed the instructions at http://www.ifelix.co.uk/tech/3012.html and am having the same issue. Whether setting up manually or using Bonjour, it seems that you have to select an Apple Driver. The problem is that the Windows 7 does not provide Apple drivers. Luckily, I have an old XP installation CD so I can access the printer drivers I need, but because I already installed the printer drivers from my printers CD Windows will automatically install with that driver, not giving me the "have disk" option.
So I tried to install with Bonjour again, which allowed me to pull up the drivers from teh XP installation disk, but then gave me an error that I didn't have permissions to install the selected printer.
So I deleted the Canon driver for my printer from Windows 7 and went through the process described at http://www.ifelix.co.uk/tech/3012.html again. This time I was able to select the Apple Color Laserwriter printer from the XP installation CD, but I got an error message saying that Windows was unable to find an appropriate driver.
At this point, after a couple hours trying to do a simple file share, which should only take 30 seconds, I'm giving up being able to print to a printer connected to a mac from my Windows 7 laptop. Now I have to open files on the mac from the network file share to print.
Mixed having both Macs and Windows machines on the same network is a recipe for a headache.

  • Migrate print server from Windows 2000 to Windows 2008 R2

    Hi,
Want to transfer NTFS permission of printers from Windows 2000 to Windows 2008 R2.
Any method can do it ??
    Thanks

From your description, I understand that you want to copy ntfs permission of printer  folder
    from one server to another.
you can use subinacl to do the same..
To backup the permissions of the folder, subfolders and files on folder called Data on the G: drive:
    subinacl /noverbose /output=c:\ntfs_perms.txt /subdirectories G:\data\
If you wanted to just backup the NTFS permissions for the entire drive, the command would look like this:
    subinacl /noverbose /output=c:\ntfs_G_drive_perms.txt /subdirectories G:\*.*
Most of you will probably not be concerned with backing up down to the file level, and are satisfied with just backing up the permissions at the directory level.  Backing up the permissions for just the directories can be
    achieved with the following syntax:
    subinacl /noverbose /output=c:\G_driveNTFSperms.txt /subdirectories=directoriesonly G:\*.*
To restore the permissions on the drive using the file that you backed them up to:
    Subinacl /playfile c:\G_driveNTFSperms.txt

  • Is it possible to print from Windows 8.1 to a printer connected to the USB port on an Airport Express?

Is it possible to print from Windows 8.1 to a printer connected to the USB port on an Airport Express?
    a) HP printer with USB port only (no ethernet port) connected to Airport Express
    b) No issue printing from Macs
    Tests
    1) Installed Bonjour 2 - does not find printer (now uninstalled)
    2) Bonjour 3 is listed in programs but no way to access
    3) Using TCPIP address (and no Bonjour) gives 'Unsupported Personality' error when printing test page
    Regards
    Richard
p.s. why are all Windows 8.1 questios n the forum 'Locked' with no reply?

This is possible, but not with Bonjour or any other fixes.  It is just a printer set up based on the Port name of the Airport, 10.0.1.1.
I found the answer on YouTube, Title: Windows Printing For Apple AirPort Extreme without Bonjour Wireless wifi.

  • Can't print from Windows XP

I'm a new Mac user with a MacBook Pro, and found I needed to run Windows for a couple of applications so installed Parallels. All applications run fine, except printing from Windows. Have a Canon Pixma MP480 printer at home, and an HP Deskjet at the office. Both print fine from Mac, but no luck from Windows at all. I've tried to troubleshoot the configuration in Parallels, and everything seems set up correctly as far as I can tell (I'm not very tech oriented, though). I have the feeling that there is something very basic that I have missed. Anyone have thoughts on what it might be?

  • Printing from Windows XP - indirect connection to printer

I'm trying to print from Windows XP/Boot Camp from my MB Pro. When I print from OSX, I use the printer sharing option and print through my roommate's Mac which is directly connected to the printer (Epson).
In browsing the threads on this issue, I have yet to see one that addresses an indirect connection to the printer.
    Any help would be appreciated.
(Apologies if I'm posting on the wrong section of this forum.)

    I used Bonjour for Windows available from here;
    http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/bonjourforwindows.html
Set it up and printing is a breeze.
    Good luck.

There have been some patches from Quicken to address these issues, make sure you have the latest updates.  Quicken says only Quicken 2010 is supported in Windows 7 but suggests the following workaround.

  • Cannot print from Windows XP in Boot Camp

I rarely boot into Windows using Boot Camp. Usually will use Windows as a VM with VMware Fusion.
Now I am unable to print when in Windows/Boot Camp!
Yes, I can print just fine in Mac & in Windows as a VM.
My Boot Camp installation of WinXP is the same one I use as a VM.
I wonder if I changed some printer setting long ago & forgot. I am fairly certain I used to be able to print from Windows/Boot Camp.
    From: Windows XP/Control Panel/Printers & Faxes/My printer/properties/Ports
The last port/box in the list is checked, “TPVM: ThinPrint Print Port for VM”
I thought this may be incorrect for when I am in Windows using Boot Camp so tried changing it to LPT1 & then LPT2 & LPT3 & no real help. However, when using
TPVM: ThinPrint Print Port for VM, When I attempt to print, nothing happens & no print job appears in the print queue. (See what’s printing) If I change the port to LPT1,2 or 3, than the job DOES appear & under status says “error.”
I think I need to change some setting when I boot into Windows via Boot Camp vs. Start Windows as a VM.
    What is the problem?
    Thanks!

    Thanks but, no help.
I did set up printer sharing. Even though I only have one computer I still share the printer between the Mac & WIndows on the Mac in both VM & BC.
On Mac: System Preferences/Print & Fax, I do have the box checked “Share this printer on the network.”   Under Sharing Preferences I have checked; Printer sharing, Scanner sharing & file sharing. Users: Everyone Can Print.
If I remember correctly, b4 I had set up printer sharing, I was unable to print from Windows as VM. It would send the print job over to the Mac side & would not print. Then I used to go into the sys tray on Windows & change something re the printer (I forget what) but essentially telling Windows to use this printer or activate it. Then when finished -- If I forget to undo that change, it would not print on the Mac side. Setting the printer to share fixed that so, I can easily print Mac or Windows VM.  Again, I very rarely boot into Windows/BC but I would like to be able to print when I do.
It may be similar to use of the optical drive for DVDs/CDs. If I am in Windows/VM The Drive doesn't work until I go into some menu (Virtual Machine?) & enable the drive & then I must disable it to get it back working for Mac.
I am going to try DVD & CD sharing & see if that fixes it so I can use the drive in both Mac & Windows VM w/o having to bother to change settings back & forth, Then I will see if doing that somehow breaks the DVD/CD drive for Windows/BC.
Maybe I need to uncheck printer sharing in order for the printer to once again work on Windows/BC?
Or maybe since I enabled printer sharing, I must somehow tell my Mac or tell Windows that all 3 can share; Mac, Windows/VM & Windows BC?  I’m sure if I had 3 different computers I would need to somehow tell the system which computers are authorized to use my Network printer. Maybe since Windows BC is never online/running at the same time as the Mac, it was not recognized?

  • Can't print from Windows Explorer

After installing the "HP Officejet Pro 8600 e-All-in-One Printer - N911a", on a Windows 7 64-bit PC, that is Ethernet connected, I get the following error message:
    Script Error
An error has occurred in the script on this page.
    Line: 2061
    Char: 1
Error: Invalid procedure call or argument
    Code: 0
    URL: res://ieframe.dll/preview.js
When I try to print from Windows Explorer; however, I can print from other applications such as Word and Quicken OK, and I can print from Explorer OK from a Windows XP PC. Anyone have any suggestions?

The issue is caused when Windows creates the printer profile in the control panel that it doesn't correctly create it with the drivers.
We're not going to completely uninstall all the HP software, instead we're going to remove the corrupt Windows printer profile and reinstall it.  Total time for this on an average computer is about 5-10 minutes to completely repair (including reboot).
    1) Navigate to Start Menu > Devices and Printers or Start Menu > Control Panel > Printers
    2) Select each printer profile for the printer with an issue, then select remove device/printer.
    3) Reboot
    4) Navigate to Start Menu > All Programs > HP > insert model # here > Add Printer (or Setup Wizard)
    5) Follow the setup prompts to reinstall the printer profile and it recreates the Windows printer.
    6) Test by printing google.com (uses very little ink when the test page comes out).
Let me know if you have any questions or issues.
    Thanks,
