Printing from Windows XP via AirPort to printer connected via USB to iMac

Hello. I have an iMac (with Leopard, MacOS 10.5) and a Windows XP notebook, both connected to the internet wirelessly via an AirPort Express unit. Do you know if I could connect physically (via a USB cable) a regular laser printer to the iMac and be able to print wirelessly from the Windows XP notebook via AirPort?

It should work. Enable Printer Sharing via System Preferences -> Sharing. The Mac does need to be turned on.
P.S. Try to just post one thread on your question instead of crossposting over several forums.

p.s. why are all Windows 8.1 questios n the forum 'Locked' with no reply?

This is possible, but not with Bonjour or any other fixes.  It is just a printer set up based on the Port name of the Airport, 10.0.1.1.

  • Printing from Windows 8 to a shared printer on a Windows 7 machine

WE have a a user that has a laser printer on A windows 7 machine that others in the office can access EXCEPT the one person on a Windows 8 machine. We have tried everything, but cannot get her to print to this printer. Says it cannot be found. What does
Windows 8 need to see a printer on a Win 7 workstation. She does have access to network printers and her own.
    Thanks.

We have the same kind of problem but a bit different.
Dell Printer (used for years shared on a network) was moved to our Windows 7 machine plugged in via USB.  We only use a plain workgroup with no Domain as we also have Macs on the network.
I have Macs using shared printer, a Windows XP using the shared printer, and even Windows 7 under Parallels on the Macs using the shared printer no problem.
I had the lone Windows 8 laptop using the shared printer but then it just stopped working.  So I deleted it and now when I try to add it is want credentials and none work.  It will not connect to the shared printer on the Windows 7 machine.
I have Windows 7 (which also has a couple shared drives that do work) set for No Homegroup and No Password for sharing - pretty much open as we are behind a Cisco Firewall to the outside.  No firewalls on the pcs.
Not sure where to go from here...

  • Can't print from Windows 8 through Airport

Recently added a Windows 8 pc to my Airport network. After loading Bonjour to the PC, it finds the printer. However, it does not print a test page properly, just a single line about HP-PCL XL;3;0, etc, then blank sheets. Ideas?

    Wrong print driver?
Try it with the printer plugged directly into the computer. If it works ok there then it should be ok via the network.

  • Hp envy 4500 will not print from windows 8. Thinks it prints, but it doesn't.

Am trying to print from my Toshiba laptop running Windows 8 to my HP Envy 4500 wirelessly. Works fine from my ipad, works fine from my desktop and laptop running Windows 7. I have uninstalled and re-installed the printer driver 5 times. Printer is recognized, has an IP addrress, and will print an internal test page. When I print to it from my Windows 8 machine, the file goes in the queue, gets a port, and then disappears as if it was printed. Nothing prints. Please help, this is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO frustrating.

  • Hp officejet pro8500 a910 shoots out blank paper when trying to print from windows 10 installed firefox. Printer works fine from chrome and ie.

I am beta testing windows 10. I use both a hp laptop (dv77128nr) and a desktop (home made). I use a hp officejet pro8500 a910 printer.
When using firefox I get only blank pages while trying to print from within the browser. Only using firefox. Chrome works fine. IE works fine. If I boot to windows 7, firefox works fine. Can you help or should I report this to Microsoft?
    Thanks for your help.
ps. Tried resetting firefox. Haven't tried a new install.

Firefox isn't officially supported on Windows 10. For that matter, Windows 10 isn't officially supported either. This is most likely a problem between Firefox, Windows 10, and your printer's driver. Try updating your printer's driver and see if that helps. Otherwise, it might be a good idea to post this on Microsoft's forums as well.

  • Can't print from Windows Explorer

After installing the "HP Officejet Pro 8600 e-All-in-One Printer - N911a", on a Windows 7 64-bit PC, that is Ethernet connected, I get the following error message:
    Script Error
An error has occurred in the script on this page.
    Line: 2061
    Char: 1
Error: Invalid procedure call or argument
    Code: 0
    URL: res://ieframe.dll/preview.js
When I try to print from Windows Explorer; however, I can print from other applications such as Word and Quicken OK, and I can print from Explorer OK from a Windows XP PC. Anyone have any suggestions?

The issue is caused when Windows creates the printer profile in the control panel that it doesn't correctly create it with the drivers.
We're not going to completely uninstall all the HP software, instead we're going to remove the corrupt Windows printer profile and reinstall it.  Total time for this on an average computer is about 5-10 minutes to completely repair (including reboot).
    1) Navigate to Start Menu > Devices and Printers or Start Menu > Control Panel > Printers
    2) Select each printer profile for the printer with an issue, then select remove device/printer.
    3) Reboot
    4) Navigate to Start Menu > All Programs > HP > insert model # here > Add Printer (or Setup Wizard)
    5) Follow the setup prompts to reinstall the printer profile and it recreates the Windows printer.
    6) Test by printing google.com (uses very little ink when the test page comes out).
Let me know if you have any questions or issues.
    Thanks,
    Dan

  • When i try to print from Parallels Desktop to my mac printer, it cannot convert the prescript file.  what should i do?

i use Quickbooks accounting for windows and when i bought my new mac i had to buy parallels desktop so that i could continue to use my accounting software.  it has been working since then and i dont know what happened, but now when i print something i get a message saying that states "Unable to Convert The ProScript File".
    Help Please!!!
    Niko96
    i need this fixed a.s.a.p!!!!

I don't have Parallels; I use Fusion. And in Fusion you have the option to use the installed printer is OS X to print. I have seen printing from Windows 7 to the Mac printer result in errors and there is a chance you are having the same issue.
If Parallels has the same facility where you can use the Mac's printer then I would suggest that you install a Windows driver for your printer in Parallels and not use the Mac printer. This should stop the conversion error you are getting.

  • Airport Express Wireless Printing from Windows 8

I'm in the process of configuring a new laptop that came with Windows 8.  I want to be able to print wirelessly to an HP PSC 1315 printer connected to an Airport Express, which I had been doing successflly from an XP Pro machine that just died.  I am able to: (1) print wirelessly to the printer from a new MacBook Air (so wireless printing does work); (2) connect the Win8 machine to the internet via the Airport Express network (so the wireless network connection is OK); and (3) print from the Win8 machine to the printer when it's directly connected to a USB port (so the printer drivers are OK).  I have installed Bonjour 2.0.2 on the Win8 machine, but it's not seeing any printers.  I've also installed the Airport Utility (both 5.5.3.2 and 5.6.1.2) on the Win8 machine, but it's not finding any Airport wireless devices either.
    I'd appreciate any help.
    Steve
P.S.  Incidentally, I can't install a viable Airport Utilty (AU) on the Air since the versions that will work with my older AEs (5.5.3 and 5.6.1.2) won't install on the Air.  The Air will only install 6.1, which won't talk to my older AEs.  Apple suggested I install 5.x on another Mac and then port it to the Air via a stick.  But I don't have another Mac.  Grrr.

Unfortunately, connecting your printer to the AirPort Express does not make it AirPrint compatible. You need to have a specific AirPrint compatible printer to be able to print directly to the printer using your iPad.
Check this Apple support document for more details on AirPrint.

  • Can't print from Windows to Mac

I've always had trouble printing to a printer attached to my Mac from Windows. Bonjour used to see the printer, but I could only occasionally actually print. For a while everything but PDFs worked, then even text stopped. As a last resort I tried the "reset printing system" option in System Preferences and then re-added the printer, but now Bonjour doesn't see it at all. I can browse to it via SMB at \\macname\printername, but all I can do is print a test page as Administrator. Regular print jobs and non-admin test pages just disappear - not in the queue on either client or server. Setting it up as an IPP printer instead didn't help.
I'm at the end of my rope here, and any troubleshooting tips are welcome. I'm an IT guy, so technical details are very welcome: TCP ports to check for listeners on, services to look for, registry settings on the Windows end, anything.
    Details:
    Server:
    Mac OS X 10.6.2
HP Photosmart D7560 printer connected via USB using HP Photosmart driver
    Clients:
Windows XP, Windows Vista (32-bit), Windows 7 (32-bit and 64-bit)
All on the same LAN (wireless), no trouble with TCP/IP connectivity (can ssh into the Mac from the Windows boxes, etc). Both Windows Firewall and UAC are turned off on the Vista/7 boxes, guest access is enabled on the Mac in Sharing preferences...
    Any help welcome.
    Thanks!

I followed the instructions at http://www.ifelix.co.uk/tech/3012.html and am having the same issue. Whether setting up manually or using Bonjour, it seems that you have to select an Apple Driver. The problem is that the Windows 7 does not provide Apple drivers. Luckily, I have an old XP installation CD so I can access the printer drivers I need, but because I already installed the printer drivers from my printers CD Windows will automatically install with that driver, not giving me the "have disk" option.
So I tried to install with Bonjour again, which allowed me to pull up the drivers from teh XP installation disk, but then gave me an error that I didn't have permissions to install the selected printer.
So I deleted the Canon driver for my printer from Windows 7 and went through the process described at http://www.ifelix.co.uk/tech/3012.html again. This time I was able to select the Apple Color Laserwriter printer from the XP installation CD, but I got an error message saying that Windows was unable to find an appropriate driver.
At this point, after a couple hours trying to do a simple file share, which should only take 30 seconds, I'm giving up being able to print to a printer connected to a mac from my Windows 7 laptop. Now I have to open files on the mac from the network file share to print.
Mixed having both Macs and Windows machines on the same network is a recipe for a headache.

  • From windows 7 laptop, "Insufficient access to connect to selected printer!

I am frustrated trying to setup printer sharing from Windows 7 laptop. Bonjour printer wizard keeps returning error message " You do not have sufficient access to your computer to connect to the selected printer" HELP PLEASE

Sorry, your advice did not solve the issue. To be more precise:
I have a HPLaserjet1010 and Brother MFC-240C connected to the iMAC which runs on OS X 10.6.2.
The laptop runs on Windows XP. I was able to print via wireless network before, using the Bonjour software to connect. (This needs to be the 32bit version as the laptop runs 32 bit.)
The software was able to find the printers under \\Macintosh.local
Since several weeks, this connection does not work anymore.
I tried to delete the printers and run Bonjour again. The software can detect the printers and installs them, but they just don't print.
On the iMAC, I did not change any settings. The printers features are defined as "shared" printers.
Any idea how to solve this issue?

  • Printing from Windows XP to AX - Samsung ML-2010

I have a Samsung ML-2010 hooked up to my AX. I have an iBook and MacMini that print to it fine. My windows machine is not printing.
    I did the following:
    1. Set up a new printer, followed the instructions to set up a TCP/IP printer using my airport IP. Added the Samsung printer to the list.
When I printed the document, it did nothing.
I then deleted the printer and did the following:
    2. Downloaded Bonjour for Windows. Followed the instructions and added the printer from the list.
When I print a document, it goes to a print job, then fails.
I attempted these things several times. Unable to find the problem.
No problem with my mac computers.

I am using the printer driver on my install disk.
In the process of troubleshooting this problem, I discovered that my computer had been hijacked by a bunch of root kits. I have since cleaned off my hard drive and reinstalled Windows XP Home Edition.
Now I am trying again. I installed Bonjour for Windows. I noticed that my printer is not listed in the Bonjour list for Samsung printers. I installed the driver from my install CD.
Guess what? It is still not working.

  • Cannot print from Windows XP in Boot Camp

I rarely boot into Windows using Boot Camp. Usually will use Windows as a VM with VMware Fusion.
Now I am unable to print when in Windows/Boot Camp!
Yes, I can print just fine in Mac & in Windows as a VM.
My Boot Camp installation of WinXP is the same one I use as a VM.
I wonder if I changed some printer setting long ago & forgot. I am fairly certain I used to be able to print from Windows/Boot Camp.
    From: Windows XP/Control Panel/Printers & Faxes/My printer/properties/Ports
The last port/box in the list is checked, “TPVM: ThinPrint Print Port for VM”
I thought this may be incorrect for when I am in Windows using Boot Camp so tried changing it to LPT1 & then LPT2 & LPT3 & no real help. However, when using
TPVM: ThinPrint Print Port for VM, When I attempt to print, nothing happens & no print job appears in the print queue. (See what’s printing) If I change the port to LPT1,2 or 3, than the job DOES appear & under status says “error.”
I think I need to change some setting when I boot into Windows via Boot Camp vs. Start Windows as a VM.
    What is the problem?
    Thanks!

    Thanks but, no help.
I did set up printer sharing. Even though I only have one computer I still share the printer between the Mac & WIndows on the Mac in both VM & BC.
On Mac: System Preferences/Print & Fax, I do have the box checked “Share this printer on the network.”   Under Sharing Preferences I have checked; Printer sharing, Scanner sharing & file sharing. Users: Everyone Can Print.
If I remember correctly, b4 I had set up printer sharing, I was unable to print from Windows as VM. It would send the print job over to the Mac side & would not print. Then I used to go into the sys tray on Windows & change something re the printer (I forget what) but essentially telling Windows to use this printer or activate it. Then when finished -- If I forget to undo that change, it would not print on the Mac side. Setting the printer to share fixed that so, I can easily print Mac or Windows VM.  Again, I very rarely boot into Windows/BC but I would like to be able to print when I do.
It may be similar to use of the optical drive for DVDs/CDs. If I am in Windows/VM The Drive doesn't work until I go into some menu (Virtual Machine?) & enable the drive & then I must disable it to get it back working for Mac.
I am going to try DVD & CD sharing & see if that fixes it so I can use the drive in both Mac & Windows VM w/o having to bother to change settings back & forth, Then I will see if doing that somehow breaks the DVD/CD drive for Windows/BC.
Maybe I need to uncheck printer sharing in order for the printer to once again work on Windows/BC?
Or maybe since I enabled printer sharing, I must somehow tell my Mac or tell Windows that all 3 can share; Mac, Windows/VM & Windows BC?  I’m sure if I had 3 different computers I would need to somehow tell the system which computers are authorized to use my Network printer. Maybe since Windows BC is never online/running at the same time as the Mac, it was not recognized?
