Printing from Word and PowerPoint - instant crash

Hi,
Whenever I opt to print from Word or PowerPoint, the application crashes straight away. I've tried Microsoft Autoupdate, but it says I have all the updates for the time being.

I am printing to a HP Color LaserJet 2600n networked printer. I updated my drivers. The printer prints from Apple applications just fine (iWork, Safari, Preview, Mail) it prints from Word after the MS update was installed. Does not print from PowerPoint, Adobe Illustrator, Canvas version 8 or version X.
PS The firmware update for the Printer won't run because it doesn't recognize OS X 10.5.x
Other Problem. I can't stay connect to my Air Port extreme that has a Terra Byte connected to it. I regularly (every other day) have to reset it get connected. It used to work fine under Tiger Just an additional gripe

Printing from Word and Excel

I'm using Microsoft Office version X for Mac, a bit old I know, but it does what I need it do. Well, did, before I upgraded to Snow Leopard.
I upgraded on both my MacBook Pro and on my Mac Mini. With the Mini I transferred everything from my old G4 using whatever utility it was that Apple said to use. The MacBook started clean.
Now here is my issue. Everything works great from my laptop, not from the Mini. Certain Word documents just give me a blank page when I print and I have some Excel documents that print the boxes and shading and all that, but not the text.
Again, works fine on the MacBook Pro, but not on the Mini. Just a pain to do work on the desktop and then have to e-mail or use a flash drive to print from the MacBook Pro.
I would consider moving to a new version of Office, but since everything is fine on one machine and not the other, I don't believe that is the issue.
Any insight would be GREATLY appreciated.

Thanks so much. First I tried just disabling the fonts and it did not correct the printing problem so then I went to my user font folder for all the old fonts and deleted the ones that showed as a duplicate (with the yellow triangle). What is interesting is that there were several fonts that were duplicates that did not show as a problem in Font Book "Times New Roman" as a prime example--it was actually the printing problem along with Arial (which did show a yellow triangle). So I went through the old fonts and compared it to Font Book and where there were duplicates without the yellow flag I just deleted the old ones in my user font file. I was then able to print the Excel spreadsheet! I am hoping that deleting the other fonts will prevent future printing issues.
What is confusing is that there are so many font files I was not sure where to start. Thanks so much for your response as it gave me the courage I needed to start deleting fonts!

Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
Sorry to hear about your printers Web Services information resetting on you. I would not be able to answer for certain, but it is possible the update turned off Web Services and there is no changing that. Regarding applying your old Email address for the printer, you can not.
It is forever locked to the account prior to the Web Services being turned off. You will need to setup the Email information on all devices that use it again. Hopefully, you can get close and just add a "1" at the end for example.

HP deskjet F2480 printer : Scan and photocopy is working but fail to print for word and excel, etc.

HP deskjet F2400 series installation successful. No error detected.
Scan function and copy function perfrom as per normal. However, printing from word and excel file not functioning.
No error display when print out from word or excel.
Please advise?

And as a test go to www.hp.com/go/tools and download the "print diagnostic utility" and run it.

Thank you everyone. I apologize to confusing all but I am up to date and running OS X 10.8.2. It's possible I purchased the key for Office but I don't think so although it was 3-4 years ago. I guess I will stop in the Apple Store and just ask. I may just buy the new bundle anyway to get the most updated.

If you are on Windows, you can download and install the CreatePDF Desktop Printer, which would allow you to "print" to PDF from Word. You'll find a link to the installer on the CreatePDF page at https://cloud.acrobat.com. Here are the instructions for installing it: Using Adobe PDF Pack

Ah! You're creating a PDF out of Word through Acrobat. The cutoff is most likely being affected by the printer chosen.
When you call up the print dialogue in Word, check to see what printer is being used. If it's a typical inkjet printer, Acrobat is using the print margins of that printer as the cutoff area. Since most such printers can't print to the last inch and half or so of the paper, that's where it would be cut off.
Near the bottom, under the preview of the document, click on the Page Setup button. It doesn't really matter which printer you select here. Under Paper Size, choose Manage Custom Sizes. Under the Non-Printable Area heading, choose the same printer and set the paper size you're using.
Note that the unprintable margins for that printer will be filled in automatically. That's what's being cut off. Click the + button to create a modified version. The default will be "Untitled". Give it a new name if you want. Then set all of the margins to zero. Click OK. Now you'll have that as a choice under Paper Size. Doesn't matter that the actual printer can't use this setting since you're going to a PDF. Click OK to get back to the main Word print dialogue.
Now choose Save as Adobe PDF. It should give you an exact duplicate of what's on screen in Word since as far as Acrobat is concerned, your "printer" has no unprintable margins.

Do you own Acrobat? If so what version? If not what version of Word and PP do you have? Newer versions contain non-Adobe software for creating pdfs. If you do not own Acrobat that it would be best to check in a Microsoft forum on how to use Word to create pdfs.

Problem with printing from word 97

I have HP Photosmart C5280 All-in-One installed. Unfortunately my fother still uses MS Word 97 because he knows it best. Any try to print a document from Word 97 results in crash of the programm without any error message. It just closes when he tries to choose HP C5280 in the print dialogue. Other office programms don't have this problem. I already updated drivers and software to the newest version. Is there an update for compatibility with MS Office 97 or my father have to learn to use another office programm??

Try taking all of the spaces out of the printer name. There also seems to be a problem if you switch from normal print to draft in some models. I think the problem is with word 97. Still a great program.

I'm running 10.5.8, trying to print from Word 08 to a HP C5180 all in one, getting random text along top of first page then the printer keeps feeding paper through.

I downloaded the driver and software from HP for my OS, during installation it says HP Monitor Tray? quit unexpectedly, then it says installed successfully. I opened Word 08 for Mac, typed a test page, hit print, and the first page came out with three lines of words and numbers, then the printer continued to feed blank sheets through? I tried printing from TextEdit and it says "Textedit quit unexpectedly." Please help, I am new to the Mac and this is driving me nuts. Thanks.

That happens when the printer driver sends binary when ASCII or something else is expected. It ususally means the driver is goofed up.
If this is an inkjet all-in-one, most of those are "dumb" printers that have a "monolithic" driver that does the imaging on the Mac, then sends the bitmap to the printer.
The default for Mac OS X Printers is to send Postscript to the printer. So if there was any trouble installing the driver or setting up the Printer, it would end up a generic postscript, and that would go badly.

The first step I would try is delete the Adobe pdf printer and then repair Acrobat.
Repairing Acrobat will bring back the pdf printer. We released an update yesterday i.e. 11.0.10. try updating to the latest version and check.
Have you tried uninstalling the software and reinstalling it.
You might also want to check the performance in a new admin user account.

I'm getting # marks when printing from Word to .pdf; what's going on?

I recently reinstalled OS and all software, including Acrobat 9. (No virus, just like to freshen things up on the system.) Now, when I print from Word to a .pdf file, I get # marks inserted near header and footer. This never happened before. I unchecked the box (under properties) that says, "rely on system fonts only; do not use document fonts" and that made them go away, but I never had to mess with that previously. Is that, in fact, the solotion, or is there something else going on that needs to be corrected?

The check box was checked by default. I made no revisions to the settings after reinstalling Adobe.
As noted, this had never happened before. The document was a letter with a letterhead graphic inserted (.png I believe). When I pulled up various old letters I prepared using the letterhead template or even the blank letterhead template itself and printed to .pdf, the # marks showed up, whereas that had never happened previously. Again, though, I made no changes to the default settings, so I'm wondering whether unchecking the check box really did take care of the problem or is just "masking" or "hiding" some other issue.

Cant print from Word/Excel/Outlook to Onenote (Office 2010)

Have a weird problem. The problem started quite resently....for a lot of users in our domain!
As the title says I cant print from word/outlook/... to onenote.....the only thing i can print from is IE10 to onenote (all other printers work ofc pdf/physical and so on). But if someone has IE8 I doesn't work for them either...
I have the printer under "printers and fax" so its not "gone"....I have tried to repair Office 2010+reboot with no success. AND i have the XPS document Writer present/working aswell.
When i try to print i can see the "printing-icon" in the lower wright corner, so something is obviously "happening"....but if i put my marker there it only says "0 printing jobs for %username%"....and yes i'm currently sitting
in a domain, i'm admin at my computer to(Windows 7 Enterprise).
I'v tried almost everything i could find i terms of repairing and checking the HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\MenuExt\Ski&cka till OneNote registry key (but that's for IE...and that's working correctly).
Now here's the fun part....if i run winword.exe as administrator (rightclick+Run as administrator) it works!
But that's not a solid workaround....
Anyone knows how to fix this? And as i'v explained...tried to repair several times....restarted services....check so XPS function is enabled and so on and so on...

According to your description, I selected the situations which your said above.
1. A lot of Domain account could print from is IE10 to Onenote, but IE 8 not.
2.When Domain account print to Onenote, but it hanged.
3. Word works well if runned as administrator.
From above, I think the printer setting was Ok, beacuse you could print something by using Onenote to physical printer.
As far as I know, OneNote stores a raster and a vector format for the printout images. It will first load the raster image (quicker to load) then quickly switch to vector image (hi res/sharper). The image you see for a split second is the raster
image and then vector format fails to render. I believe you did not lose any data, just that it fails to render due to a configuration issue.
OneNote uses .NET to render the vector format and I have seen cases where the installed .NET version or not installed .NET updates would be a problem. I recommend you first make sure you have
Win7 SP1 and Office and .NET updates that show up in Windows Update are all installed and retry after that.

If the issue exists, Please use process monitor to selcet the log when the issue occurs.
