Printing from XP to shared printer

Hi
I am trying to print from pc laptop running XP Home to shared printer on iMac. I can not get it to work. When I run the Bonjour wizard it finds the printer, Epson R300, no problem. Set up seems fine. I print and it certainly gets sent somewhere - I can even see the log on the mac receiving it - it says POST so assume it is trying to forward the print correctly - but nothing happens. No error on the printer either.
Any ideas?

I just wrote this yesterday:
HOWTO Add a raw printer queue in OS X
1. Edit the files /etc/cups/mime.convs and /etc/cups/mime.types so that the line in each that starts with:
#application/octet-stream
gets the beginning "#" removed (which means you have uncommented it).
I would use the freeware Text Wrangler and its menu item File>Open Hidden to edit these files.
2. Make sure the printer is on and connected by USB.
Go to Printer Setup Utility. Click Add, then note how the printer is identified next to the comm protocol, USB. In my case it is "Stylus Photo R200." Cancel and close Printer Setup.
Under the Apple menu, open About this Mac and click More Info to get System Profiler open. Click on Hardware>USB. Under USB BUS, click on USB Printer. We will need two pieces of info from this, so keep it open in the background.
3. Open a web browser (Safari, Firefox, etc). Enter this URL, which is the local admin web server for CUPS on your computer:
http://localhost:631/
Click Do Administration Tasks. When it asks for authentication enter either your regular admin user/password, or, root and root's password. (Different computers are set up differently for this)
4. Click Add Printer. Enter a helpful name, like R200_RAW (for my Epson R200). If you like, enter abbreviated location and description. Continue. Select USB Printer, not the specific model. Continue. Now we need the info from System Profiler. Make the URI like this:
usb://EPSON/Stylus%20Photo%20R200?serial=MO7P104xxxxxxxx40
components of the above:
usb:// -- using the CUPS built-in USB backend driver
EPSON -- exactly as spelled (all-caps in my case) in System Profiler
Stylus%20Photo%20R200 -- as the name shows up in Printer Setup, but spaces are replaced with %20 (ascii substitute for space)
?serial=MO7P104xxxxxxxxx40 -- get the serial number from System Profiler.
5. Continue. Select Raw. Continue. Select Raw Queue (en). Continue. Done. Now try it from another computer.

Printing from Leopard to shared printer on Tiger machine = nothing

I have 3 Epson printers attached to a G4 iMac on my wireless network. I used to be able to print from them perfectly from my MacBook Pro without any issues. Recently installed Leopard and updated to 10.5.2. Now my MBP can see all these printers and I can add them to my list of printers in the Print & Fax pref. pane, but when I try to print to them (Using the newest epson drivers) the jobs queue up in the print queue but never seem to make it to the iMac. I'm not getting any error messages - it seems like the jobs are just lost in space somewhere.
It also seems that I've lost all of the printer-specific options in the print dialog - paper type, color adjustment, etc. that I was able to control before installing leopard. Anyone else able to solve this issue?

OK update...after removing all installed printers from both computers and reinstalling the newest drivers for all the printers, I can now print from the MacBook Pro to the iMac, but I still don't have access to any of the printer-specific options like paper type, print quality or color adjustment. These settings are VERY important to me! Anyone know of any way to get them back?

Printing from MacBook to shared printer attached to a Win XP host

I was able to set this up successfully and print from my Mac to it. But I keep getting prompted for a user every time. I can select Guest and it works. But I would like to have it just use Guest every time and no longer prompt me. Any tips?

Could you explain how you set this up? I'm trying to help a friend who has everything in the house set-up wirelessly via a Verizon Fios WiFi Router. There is an XP (home edition service pack 3) windows desktop with printer connected to USB. There is a laptop running windows xp (business edition service pack 2), and the macbook running snow leopard. After setting up the windows xp desktop to share the printer, and successfully printing to it from the laptop, I tried to add the printer via the sys prefs control panel. First I chose the "Windows" option under type of printer. Up popped the mshome workgroup and the two pcs. When I try connecting to the desktop, I don't get any printers in the list (using Guest or User login). When I try connecting to the laptop, I see two generic "Printer" and "Printer2" labels (connecting via Guest), but connecting to either of them and setting up the drivers for the printer doesn't work. Any thoughts?
Sorry this doesn't answer your question about avoiding the login/guest option every time...

Can't print to Windows 7 shared printer from Mac OS Lion

Dear all,
I would like to share my experience battling to figure out how to print to Windows 7 shared printer from Mac OS Lion. Myself had this problem and looking throughly in internet without success. But finally I figured out the solution by myself, hope this can help other Mac user with similar problem.
OK, when I try to setup my new MacBook Pro with OS Lion to connect with my Canon MX308 printer attached to desktop with Windows 7 Ultimate,
1. I simply select System Preferences>Print & Scan.
2. Then looks for the + sign just below the box to add a new printer.
3. From the option toolbar above, I select Windows. I have connect this MacBook with my Windows Network, so the workgroup will appear to the left column.
4. After I select this group, the computer list will appear in the middle column
5. Then after I select the computer which my printer connected to, my printer sharename will appear in the right column
6. Last step is to select the printer I want to use.
7. After that it will automatically put your printer sharename to the "Name". And then I select my printer driver at "Print Using" and find my printer manufacturer which is Canon MX300 series from driver lists. Finish!
My printer appear in the Printers List. But the problem is everytime I try to print there will be error message saying "ON HOLD Authentication Required".
This problem start to kill me, I search all around for similar problem, but the solution was never worked for me!
Until just now I figured out accidentally for the solution.
THE PROBLEM LIES ON MY PRINTER DRIVER!!!! Although I have downloaded the most update driver from Apple site and Apple Software update said there is no more update for my system!
The solution for my problem is Gutenprint Printer Driver! You can download this driver at http://gimp-print.sourceforge.net/MacOSX.php, then select for the latest driver gutenprint-5.2.7.dmg. Install this driver!
Then back to Print & Scan in System Preferences, then right click on Printers List box, then choose "Reset Printing System..." to clear the previous failed printers.
After that, repeat the above step 2 - 7. Only for the last step I need to select the Printer Driver for my Canon MX308 for the driver name : "Canon PIXMA MX300 - CUPS+Gutenprint v5.2.7"
Now I can sleep as a baby knowing that my printer make a friend with my new Macbook Pro! Hope this will help others!

Can't print from windows to shared Canon MX340

I have a new Canon MX340 on my iMac with Snow Leopard. I'm able to print from this iMac and via sharing, all of the other Macs at home. What I can't do is print from my son's Windows XP netbook. Previously, I was sharing an old HP office jet with no problem, with the new Canon one of two things happens. I used Bonjour to install the printer on the XP side.
- with Generic Postscript selected as the driver I get the following erros in the cups error_log file

I am able to print via a network connection (the MX340 has built in WiFi), but I'd like to know how to do with via the old method.

The XP Netbook should use the Generic PS driver. I've never found the Canon driver on Windows to work correctly when printing to the Mac shared printer via Bonjour for Windows.
It is unusual you are getting this error. The Mac should be converting the incoming spool file to suit the MX340. Since the Generic PS is not working then you could try the Apple Color LaserWriter 12/600 when using the Bonjour Wizard. I've used this on XP to print to my MP980 shared off 10.6.4 and it worked fine for me.
Personally I would suggest you are better off with using the MX340 wireless. This will remove the reliance on the iMac being available just so that others can print.

How can I print to a Mac shared printer (OS: 10.8.2) from my Windows 8 PC which is using the same Apple network?

I have tried using Bonjour on for Windows on Win8 however while it finds the printer and can add it no problem whenever a job is sent to the printer a blank page is printed. The Win8 machine can print to the printer fine if directly connected and the same driver is used when printing via Bonjour so one can only assume it's a "communications" issue between the Win8 machine and my Mac Pro which is sharing the printer.

Looking for help with printing to a windows shared printer but I believe I need instructions for a domain rather than a workgroups??? Trying to print to a windows shared Epson Stylus Photo 1400 from a Mac running OS 10.4.11. Sharing works fine to other PC's an a network using active directory. (there is no workgroup, and I guess there can't be in the way the network is administered) The "address" used on another pc to print to the shared printer is \\111408nw.

CD didn't work. Download software, didn't work when it came to plugging into usb port, don't even get a BACK button, nothing. Printer not recognized by laptop. Did all the solutions/uninstall/install etc. Printer is working though, prints out the exact same thing each time I press the green button on the printer, but is not connected to laptop. So it's not the printer, it works.

To re-install iPhoto
1. Put the iPhoto.app in the trash (Drag it from your Applications Folder to the trash)
2a: On 10.5: Go to HD/Library/Receipts and remove any pkg file there with iPhoto in the name.
2b: On 10.6: Those receipts may be found as follows: In the Finder use the Go menu and select Go To Folder. In the resulting window type
/var/db/receipts/
2c: on 10.7 they're at
/private/var/db/receipts
A Finder Window will open at that location and you can remove the iPhoto pkg files.
3. Re-install.
If you purchased an iLife Disk, then iPhoto is on it.
If iPhoto was installed on your Mac when you go it then it’s on the System Restore disks that came with your Mac. Insert the first one and opt to ‘Install Bundled Applications Only.
If you purchased it on the App Store or have a Recent Mac you can find it in your Purchases List.

Why can't I print from internet. system check prints ok. problem only in firefox. I have ubuntu 11.04

If I copy from the internet and paste to libre office it prints fine
When I try to print from firefox my Hp printer green lights starts blinking quick. indicating ready. But status bar stays "pending..."
When I go into system check printer test page prints as it should.
This only happens with Firefox!

NT_STATUS_UNSUCCESSFUL when printing from MacBook to shared Windows Printer

Hello Mac gurus,
I'm researching the issue I'm having when trying to print from MacBook Pro (connected to a home network via Ethernet cable) to an HPLaserJet 6MP/PS printer, which is connected to a Windows XP SP2 computer via LPT1 port. This printer is shared and successfully used by another Win PC connected via NegGear router.
I've followed the instructions to install the printer on my Mac here and here . I don't seem to have problems installing the printer. My Mac can see the printer, successfully installs it, tells me it is idle, but when I print it generates this error:
Connection fail with error NTSTATUSUNSUCCESSFUL and then after a few seconds: Unable to connect to SAMBA host, will retry in 60 sec. The printer never received any signals.
I've seen some replies here about workarounds, installing Ghost and other software. Since I have a PostScript printer, is it relevant in my case? I also read that Mac will print only to USB connected printers, is that true and that is where my problem is?
Please help.

1. I shortened the share printer name in my Windows (following the instructions I mentioned above, before I posted my message), there are no special characters or spaces.
2. Mac and PCs are on the same network.
3. Printer Share is allowed on the Windows PC (not blocked). Since other PC can print to that printer, than I guess Print Share is functioning.
4. I found the directory Access on the Mac, but don't know what to do there :confused: I see that smb is used as a Network protocol. The rest I have no clue.
