Printing IDCS3 File with Placed Grayscale PDF...

My client has sent me a grayscale PDF which I have imported into an IDCS3 file. When I run this to my imagesetter as a Composite Gray file selected in the Print Dialog box, it will run blank CMY plates as well as the K plate which will have the image on it. I can't seem to disable the sending of the unwanted CMY plates.
I can also choose to run this as a Separations and select just the black plate but then the grayscale pictures seem to lose their depth as it is just running the black element of what is probably a CMYK or RGB image that has been converted to look Gray.
Can anyone tell me how I can run the file as a Grayscale file and just the Black plate go to the imagesetter?
Many thanks,
David

Change the Colour dropdown from Composite Grey to Seperations. Then turn off the plates you dont want.
Sorry should have read your whole thread.
Yes you will have to convert the file to greyscale in Acrobat to fix your problem.
Also try printing Composite Unchanged. That might get you the result you are after.

  • I can't read a file with the ext PDF the sender informed me that the file was reset to PDF.

I can't read a file with the .ext PDF the sender informed me that the file was reset to PDF. But when I tried to open it the caption box informed me"the file is not in PDF format. I suspect the sender simply changed the file .ext which is why I can't open it! What can I do about it! I am working on an iPad.
    Thanks
    Mr Jim Lapthorn

If the document is not, in fact, a PDF, then you will need to get your sender to provide a PDF.
Can you open this document in any other application?

  • PDF Rendering in Google Chrome [From indesign file with Placed Illustrator files]

I have recently run into problems with files that have been output from Indesign and contain placed Ilustrator files. While the PDF, if downloaded is totally fine [and it views fine in other browsers] when viewed in Chrome it seems to erraticly drop some but not all layers. I realize this is an Chrome issue but I'm curious if anyone else has run into this and, if so, if there is an obvious workaround...
    Thanks!
    David

Well that would be ideal, I agree, yes, but I'm talking about collection of documents that I produce that people view all over the world on our site -- I can't control how they view them and while I assume Chrome is still a minority browser it would be great if I could workaround this issue [without using rasterized versions of the images in the original Indesign file.]

  • Can print PS file but not make PDF

Printing to a PostScript printer with a customized PostScript driver in WordPerfect 5.1 for DOS is what we do every day, but when we print the same job to a PS file we can't make a PDF in Adobe Acrobat Pro 9.4. What can we do to make a PDF? Here is the error message from Distiller:
    Processing prologue.ps...
    Done processing prologue.ps.
%%[ Error: rangecheck; OffendingCommand: setpagedevice; ErrorInfo: InputAttributes --nostringval-- ]%%
    Stack:
    -dict-
    -save-
%%[ Flushing: rest of job (to end-of-file) will be ignored ]%%
%%[ Warning: PostScript error. No PDF file produced. ] %%
If I knew what to edit in the PS file to make it print a PDF, that would be one workaround. But I'm very curious why our printer (HP LaserJet 4050 with a Level 2 PostScript emulator) will print a file that Distiller won't process. Here is the only place in the PS file that mentions setpagedevice:
    /manualfeed true put usertime 5000 add {dup usertime lt {pop exit} if} loop <</InputAttributes <<31<< /PageSize [612 792] /MediaType (Standard) >>/Priority []>> >>setpagedevice << /PageSize [612 792] /MediaType (Standard) >> setpagedevice _bp 0 13200 10200 _ornt /PlantinR 400 _ff
    0 13200 10200 _ornt
"612 792" is, of course, the page size in points
Trying to make the PDF from the the PS file that was meant for another PostScript printer (HP LaserJet 2200D), we get the same Distiller error message. This time the PS file contains:
    letter <</InputAttributes <<-1<< /PageSize [612 792]  /MediaType (Standard) >>/Priority []>> >>setpagedevice << /PageSize [612 792]  /MediaType (Standard) >> setpagedevice _bp 0 13200 10200 _ornt /PlantinR 400 _ff
    0 13200 10200 _ornt
This passage from the 2nd attempt has much in common with the first PS attempt. What does Distiller mean by the InputAttributes having "nostringval"? What stringval would work?
By substituting this from an uncustomized driver that does work,
letter statusdict begin true setduplexmode false settumble end _bp 0 13200 10200 _ornt /PlantinR 400 _ff
    0 13200 10200 _ornt
and by removing an offending command BRst, a PDF is created. But it doesn't have any of the special fonts that were downloaded. Still, that's progress.

Thank you. The first line of the PS file is "%!PS-Adobe", so I conclude that the origin of the uncustomized PostScript driver was Adobe; WordPerfect Corp. supplied it to purchasers of their software. Uncustomized (except for new Type 3 fonts), the PostScript driver still works splendidly for creating PS files that are easily distilled into PDFs. We only use Adobe software for this purpose.
By editing parts of the problem PS file I am just now able to get the PDF. But it requires replacing the following on every page:
    letter <</InputAttributes <<-1<< /PageSize [612 792]  /MediaType (Standard) >>/Priority []>> >>setpagedevice << /PageSize [612 792]  /MediaType (Standard) >> setpagedevice _bp 0 13200 10200 _ornt /PlantinR 400 _ff0 13200 10200 _ornt
    with this:
    letter statusdict begin true setduplexmode false settumble end _bp 0 13200 10200 _ornt /PlantinR 400 _ff0 13200 10200 _ornt
I will continue working these codes. It ought to be possible to get paging codes that are less laborious to replace or otherwise get working, and obviously some of the codes can be eliminated.
We're not in a position to give up our highly customized driver for mathematical logic printing on paper until a volume of historical text is finished. Smoother produced PDFs must be possible for an electronic edition.
The other snag I mentioned, "BRst", came from a text file of "pskeys" that was to be downloaded with the job. It works when I simply insert pskeys.txt into the PS file.

  • Can´t print large files with 10.5.7

    Hi,
we finally have updated our G5s, 2x2GHz, 4GB RAM, 500GB system disk. Since then we are unable to print documents from CS3 + CS4 which result in cups print files > 1 Gb. Doesn´t work with GMG rips, HP Laserwriters and Adobe PDF printers. The jobs always show up as "stopped" in the queue. Error log of cups says:

We have tested a catalog file with 150 pages which didn´t print. If you broke it up into 6 pieces (print page 1-25, 26-50...) it did work. Unfortunally we have jobs with single pages exceeding this limit. All together we have tested around 10 differend files.
We have tried to reset the printer queue, installed the drivers and deleted and created all printers, but nothing helps. Looks like cups or one of it´s helper can´t handle files larger than 1 GB?
    Any help is welcome.

    Hi there,
Does you printer/RIP support protocols other than AppleTalk? If it does, then I would change it to something like HP Jetdirect-Socket.

  • Need to Merge an Adobe XML file with a normal PDF

    The problem...
I have created an order form in Adobe LiveCycle Designer (pre-ES).  The customer's requirements force us to merge their purchase order (a flat standard PDF) with the order form I have created to get the complete PDF to bill with.  Previously we were using a form created in another software and printing to PDF to merge the 2 PDF files.  The thought process with creating a form in LiveCycle Designer was "Oh 2 PDF's we can just merge them" ... we were very WRONG.  And please don't suggest "Packaging" the files... it won't work for our processing system... we've already tried .
What we know now (had we known it before we'd have never purchased the licensing for LiveCycle Designer to start with)...
You can NOT merge a PDF that has XML in it with Adobe Proffesional.
    Temporary Solution...
We know we can print to PDF and then merge the files... this gets us the result we need, but it takes longer to print to PDF from these XML files than it did from the previous versions of the order forms in created in other software.
    Is there another solution?
Plea for help!  The users that are forced to do the process of printing to file and merging are ready to riot and/or go back to the "other" software.

    Hello!
There are a couple terms you can google:
    "PDF Concatenate Forms iText"
"Merge XML data with PDF Forms"
Concatenating PDFs means you join multiple forms together into one PDF.
Did you need to merge, or concatenate the forms?
Either way there are a couple of methods to do this programmably.
    iTextSharp (.NET)
    iText (Java)
    FDFToolkit.net (.NET)
iText products are open source, and have a learning curve, and support is provided on a Open mailing list.
iText products are free ($) but can cost you time and money to research the methods.

  • Print image file with at least 150 DPI

Happy NI Week everyone!  I couldn't make it this year, but I am working to encourage the pruchase of lots of NI hardware.
We know about printing the front panel of a VI as a quick and somewhat dirty way to generate a report.  I know DIAdem would be the superior solution here, but I wonder if there's a middle ground.  Recently, a customer requested some minor changes to an application and one of the requests was to "clean up" the way their logo looks on a printout.  They supplied us with a high resolution version of their logo, and we tried converting it to various formats before pasting it on the front panel, but the printout seems to always be rather blocky and low resolution looking.  My thought is that the front panel is rendered at 72 DPI (dots-per-inch) and the data sent to the printer is at that resolution.  I know we can save an image of a front panel.  So what I would like to do is make an oversized front panel, save it as an image file, and print that image file at 150 or 300 DPI.
So the question is:  How do I print an image file at a different DPI than what it was originally saved with?  What is a good method to print image files for that matter?
    Thanks,
    Dan Press

    Hi Photon Dan,
Here is a possible solution. It requires some photo editing. You could take a normal screen shot of your front panel and then import it into a photo editor such as IrfanView. From that point you could resize the image and make it very large. This will make the image quality very poor. At this point you could import the high resolution image from your client and paste it over the poor quality image in the screen shot. Then resize it back to its normal size. You should then be able to select what DPI you would like to print it at and will have a high quality logo. Lots of photo editing but it could give you what you want.

  • Cannot print PCL file with graphical content

If I try to print a PCL file with graphical content using lp then the output is corrupt on a network printer. I've tracked the problem down to the netpr program - which seems to be performing some sort of filtering on the data. Does anyone know how the flags work for netpr - or know of a work around?

Assuming you are running 10.10.2 and not the ancient 10.0.2, can you tell us what printer and printer driver you are using? How is the printer connected to the computer (network, usb)? See if you can delete the Reader preference files? Years ago I resetting the printer subsystem would sometimes cure a problem like this.

  • Batch Printing psd files with CS5 and Windows 7??

    Hi,
I have made a number of .psd files which i need to print in order and on a regular basis. All I want to do is find a way to batch print them.
Instead of individually opening each file and selecting print, then moving onto the next file etc.
Is there any way to do this? Can I use cmd to batch print them?
    Any help is Appreciated

Here's the worlds shortest action tutorial:
    Open an image.
Make the Actions panel visible by clicking Window-Actions.
Use the panel fly-out menu button (at the upper right) to create a new set, then again to create a new action.
With the "record" (round red dot) button active at the bottom of the Actions panel, print the one image.  This will record your step(s) as an action.
Hit the Stop button at the bottom of the Actions panel.
Now you have recorded an action that prints an open document.  You can automate this action over multiple files with the File - Automate - Batch menu.

When I print from notepad, everything just goes by default. This is a label printer, so I never need to specify printing parameter such as size, orientation, etc in the past
Famous last words go something like this: "...never had to do that before."  Maybe you have to do that now.  It's worth at least comparing the defaults settings for bothe generic drivers.  It could save you a lot of headache if you notice something different.
