Printing in Adobe Reader after exporting from InDesign gets cut-off

I have exported a few documents form InDesign to PDF. When I print the documents, some parts get cut off (top section or bottom section) but there is still room on the paper. I'ts like the printer decides not to print those sections. I am printing on 5x7inch paper and all my documents show their sizes as 5x7inches.

Turns out the issue was with Acrobat.
See resolution here.

  • PDFs dull in Acrobat after exporting from Indesign - again

    Hi folks,
I am aware of a previous post which discussed this issue which was apparently resolved, but it appears to have reared its ugly head again. The problem - since updrading to Mavericks and the Creative Cloud, pdfs in Acrobat are very dull after export from Indesign and it is not a transparency blend or Indesign issue. I understand Adobe blamed Apple for not updating their colour management software and the reply from Adobe was:
"We have found the root cause of this issue and are in process of providing a fix. Once this is done, we will test it to make sure that it works as expected and will release an update patch for all our users."
I am running the latest version or everything but it appears to still be a problem. I have also uninstalled Acobat XI and tried earlier versions without success. I have a print job to send off tomorrow and I am very nervous about how this will print.

Sorry about that, I apparently forgot to attach the file; have done so now.
The method I'm using for creating outlines is simply to use the "Create Outlines" command under the Type menu within InDesign. Then I create my PDF files by using the Export command under the File menu and choosing the PDF/X1a option. 99% of the time I get perfect results, it's only when I try to make outline type that I encounter this problem. You'll clearly see the artifacts in question in the example attached.
I don't know whether or not the press would have printed these artifacts, as you suggest, since no printer has been willing to execute a file that shows any anomaly in the proof process. I can't say that I blame them.
Hopefully you will see what I'm talking about and can recommend a solution, though I like your idea of simply giving them a properly executed file and then telling them to get a life. It hasn't worked so far, as I unfortunately deal with a lot of Neanderthals around here, but I suppose it's worth putting forth again the next time this issue arises. It will.
By the way, no print house of my choosing is this far behind the curve, if at all. These cavemen are always printers who have long-standing relationships with my clients, and for whatever reason (generally lowest cost I'm sure), the clients think they hung the moon. We, of course, no otherwise, but it does it profit a designer to tell his client he or she is crazy for using a printer who is a decade behind the technology curve.
We cowboy up and seek solutions, eh?

I filled in a fillable pdf form and when i print it, the text in the fillable section gets cut off. What do I need to do to get the entire text to be printed. Any help is appreciated.

What has this to do with Pages? You probably did this in Preview.

  • Jpegs can't be resized after exporting from InDesign

I am using Indesign CC9.2.  A problem has recently developed where I cant resize a jpeg.  It doesnt matter file size or settings.  I have tried every combination.  I export a simple document to jpeg and save to my desktop.  I open the file in Preview.  I resize it, and an error message states "this change cannot be saved".
This only happens with Jpegs I have exported from Indesign. No problems with jpegs from any other source.  Any ideas?

    Yo can resize and resample
But only with RGB images you are able to save the resized file, not with CMYK.
But the same problem comes with most of free image editors, they don't suppoert CMYK.
Maybe that Kristine should export as RGB, then she will be able to scale it or scale it upon JPG export from InDesign.

  • Viewing PDF After Exporting from InDesign

    G'day from Australia.
My name is Steve, I do a bit of freelance work from time to time but I'm also  employed by a Christian Minstry in Brisbane.
Recently I have encountered (and not just me but my manager as well) that when creating a pdf from InDesign, Acrobat is launched for me to preview the document but it then says that it can't open the document because it is either a wrong file type or because the file might but corrupted. However if i go to the exported document and open it manually it opens fine without any glitches.
I've searched the web to see if there are any answers to this issue but could not find any.
We use Adobe Design Premium CS4 on Windows based machines. All our files though are kept on our own local server. The server however is not run on microsft software but on a Novell Software system. Before we went with Novell we used to use windows server software and there were no issues with exporting and previewing pdfs straight from InDesign. Not sure if its related but I thought i'd mention it just in case.
Any help would be much appreciated.
    Regards,
    Steve.

What you are describing sounds like some type of file locking or caching problem on the Novell Netware side. I suspect that when InDesign's PDF export completes, it closes the PDF file on the server, immediately calls Acrobat to open that file, but on the server, either the file is still locked from when InDesign had it open for output or perhaps not all the file's blocks have been written out to disk yet. By the time you then try to manually open the PDF file via Acrobat, the timing issues have been resolved on the Netware side.
Adobe applications use standard Windows file operations to create, open, close, read, and write files. There is no cognizance of whether the file is local or on a network and if on a network, what type of server is hosting the file.
For what it is worth, Novell Netware is really obsolete server software. The last version, Netware 6.5, was released in 2003 with the last service update for NetWare 6.5 from Novell in 2008. You didn't mention what version of NetWare you are using, but if you have anything other than NetWare 6.5, I could imagine some really serious disconnects between modern Windows client desktops and the server software.
You indicated that you didn't have any problems with a Windows Server. I am amazed that any organization would migrate from Windows Server to Novell Netware anytimg during the last six to ten years, although I suspect there was some reason that somebody thought was good. However, your organization most should seriously consider moving back to Windows Server. Your PDF viewing problem is probably only the tip of the iceberg of problems you may potentially encounter.

  • Shaded areas on PDF after exporting from Indesign

Hello, I'm working on booklets for work using Indesign. So far most of the information in the booklet have been placed by PDF files. My supervisor sent me another PDF he would like added to the booklet. My problem is when I placed the PDF onto the page it looks fine but once I export the booklet from Indesign to PDF you see shaded areas on the page. This has never happened before and I can't seem to fix it. Does anyone have any ideas?

So the sidebar frame is a native ID text frame? I see two shaded areas inthe screen shot that interect that sidebar, and neither of them seems really related to it in any way.
Are you willing to share the file with me for examination?
Have you tired the standard Troubleshooting 101 steps: Replace Your Preferences and Remove minor corruption by exporting?

  • Bounding boxes appear in Acrobat after exporting from InDesign

Whenever I create outline fonts in my CS3 version of InDesign (I haven't upgraded to CS4 on this one program yet), I'm left with some very strange thin white lines surrounding some or all of the resulting letters that look suspiciously like bounding boxes. This never seems to occur if I don't create outline fonts, but simply embed the fonts and create a PDF using the Export command, so I have to believe the anomaly has something to do with this conversion process within the program. If I use illustrator CS4 to create outline fonts and then place them within my InDesign documents, I don't appear to have the problem. However, that's not a very desirable solution as it negatively impacts the fluidity of layouts and the ease of design, both of which I use in design for.
And yes, these small thin white lines do print, so the problem is far more than merely academic.
Has anyone else ever experienced this issue, and if so, how did you solve the problem (assuming you did)?

Sorry about that, I apparently forgot to attach the file; have done so now.

  • Doted stroke irregularities in pdf after export from indesign

    Hi,
I have created a grid of doted strokes, the doted stroke have a repetition of 0,25mm, and the thickness 0,4 pt the strokes are duplicated 5 mm intervals x and y axis.
In indesign the preview is perfect and  the dots are perfectly aligned but when i export to pdf it generates misalignment with the dots.

Not sure if this can be changed within DeskI options, but it can be changed within Excel. Go to File, Page Setup. In the Sheet Tab, there is "Row and Column Headings" check box in the Print section... deselecting this will stop these being printed.... I'm using Excel 2003...

  • PDF files turns white after exporting from InDesign CS5

    Hi all
When I export PDF files fom inDesign CS5 they turn out all white when I open them in Acrobat Reader (I´ve tried both in version 9 and the latest version). When I first open the PDF it seems to be ok but as soon as I zoom out it turns white. Anyone have a clue or have experienced the same issues?
    Thanks a lot
    /warpig

Is this something you can share? Put the PDF on a server someplace and post a link here, if you can. If you don't have your own server, you can use a service like YouSendIt.com.
What settings are you using for the export? What happens in ID if you go to Preview mode?

  • EPUB exported from InDesign works on iPad and not on Android tablets

I've edxported several similar books to EPUB from InDesign CS5, using the same technique each. After exporting from InDesign, there's a lot of tweaking of the HTML code and some changes to the content.opf and toc.ncx, but the finished product for all of the books works fine on iPads but some do not work on Android tablets. There are six separate InDesign documents in each epub book...three small, one large, and then two small. Some of the books work fine on Android tablets, but for some of them, the first three documents show up fine, but when one advances to the large document, the book closes. There's no error message. Any ideas what the problem might be? Are there size limitations for documents on Android machines?

As you have found out - it doesn't work.

  • Embedding font problems (when exporting from InDesign to PDF)

A message alert is shown, when opening a pdf - after exporting from InDesign: Cannont exctract the embedded Font Frutiger.
We have uninstalled the frutiger font and installed an open type. But the font is not embedded anyhow..?
    Can anyone help?
    Thanks very much.
    Jane

I don't know if you need help scripting this, but...........
If you can not re-create the PDF from InDesign using the OTF,
In Acrobat, highlight the text with the acrobat touch-up text tool, right click and go to properties. You should be able to assign the OTF font running on you system, and select the embed option.
If not, this is why PitStop is an indespensable (sp?) tool.

  • PDFs exported from InDesign cannot be printed

Our Marketing Manager is using Adobe InDesign and exports her documents to PDF. These PDFs won't print in any of our printers in the office. It spools and then gets stuck and it actually makes our HP Coloured Laser Printer throw an error (error 79) and we'll have to restart the printer due to this error. We can print other documents and other PDFs in the printer so we know it's not a printer driver issue. In fact, we have isolated the problem to only PDFs exported from InDesign. Even if we create a blank document or add just text from InDesign and export it to PDF it still won't print. Really odd.
**I also posted this in the InDesign thread but was asked to post it here too. I tried printing the document using Adobe Acrobat and Adobe Reader with no luck. We tried printing directly from InDesign but it is inconsistent, sometimes it will print but most of the time it does not.

Hmm. Yeah. The ID forum may be more help. Especially if it's also a problem in ID.
My first suspect would be corrupt fonts or possibly an image file. Can you create a blank ID file with no text (maybe insert just an image or something that isn't on any of the other ID files) pdf it and print it?

  • Exporting from InDesign to PDF, and the updated PDF is larger than a month ago and not printing easily on letter paper, it is PDF presets?

    Hello,
I am exporting from InDesign to a PDF and the page is larger in the PDF then others I have exported. Is this because of the PDF presents? One of the project managers is not able to print it out on 8.5 x 11 paper, but the document presets for InDesign are the same as before. I wish I could upload the PDFs to show, but the newly exported PDF is larger than the version I created a month ago. I created a PDF binder and the newly updated PDF is almost a .5 inch wider with the same export presets. Any thoughts?

I suspect the project manager simply has his/her copy of Reader/Acrobat set to print at actual size, rather than "Fit" (assuming the InDesign page size is truly 8.5 x 11).
..the newly updated PDF is almost a .5 inch wider with the same export presets.
It would have nothing to do with export presets. How are you determining that half-inch difference?

  • Printing a PDF file that has been exported from InDesign

Hello! I exported a file from InDEsign to a PDF, but the entire document doesn't print... it get's cut off 3/4 down the way. My page size in InDesign is 5in x 7in and so is my page set-up in PDF when I go to print but it still gets cut-off.

    The physical paper you're printing onto - is it  5 x 7 or lettersize/A4
If you are printing 5 x 7 image area to a 5 x 7 sheet of paper, you would need a printer capable of boarderless printing. In general, no printing equipment can print to the edges of a sheet, and all vary by different amounts; inkjets having the largest non-print area.
