Printing in Aperture 3 -- Interface & Presets Issues

I very much like the general direction of change in the printing interface, and I can print with satisfaction as to quality in A3, with my primary printer (Epson R1900). But the creation of printing presets seems not to be able to capture final settings made in the Printer dialogue, nor is there a way in the A3 dialogue to pre-access those functions in order to Save in the Preset. This includes turning off the color management in the printer, and setting of expansion of the print to zero when using borderless. I seem to have to reset these for each print I initiate?
In addition, while I can get a change to a Preset to Save between sessions of Aperture, if I have two or more custom presets, the change to any one of them gets made in all of them?
With the first issue, what I am talking about is what in A2 could be accessed in the Aperture print dialogue with the Print Settings button. With that you could access those items that one also sees after you click the Print button, but by doing so via the Print Settings button, those choices could also be encompassed into the Save of the Preset.
For clarity of what is missing, as least for Epson printers, click on the third screenshot in this below O'Reilly link, to enlarge, then you will see the Print Setting button immediately below the name of printer box:
http://blogs.oreilly.com/aperture/2008/06/printing-tips.html
I found this to be the same for all Epson printers, at least. But I see no way to access this in A3. This is not a good development if something akin to the Print Settings button cannot be found in the A3 Print dialogue. If achieving this involves selections for the Default Printer that would impact every app that might use this printer, it would not be handy.
With respect to the saving of Presets, I find this mysterious and either a bug or something simple that I am missing.
Ernie

Ernie,
there seems to be a bug with saving presets, see
http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2349173
for more info and workarounds.
Printing in AP3 is a 'two-step' process now - there might have been problems to integrate the various options of printer drivers into the AP interface...
1) AP printing dialog. In AP3 the settings for ColorProfile, PageOrientation, Paper and Printer are saved in the apps preference file, while all other settings can be bound to user-defined presets. This means that changes made to these four will always be reflected to all presets and you will have to check them before you print.
2) System printing dialog. Here you could define presets for those (printer related) options not available in the AP interface anymore (printing and paper quality, etc.) to streamline your printing. The four settings mentioned above are taken over from AP to System dialog.
I must admit that I personally liked the AP2 way much more, but this one seems to be more compatible.
Hope this helps,
Jashe

  • Color consistency printing in Aperture 2.1, Epson R2880

I just got a new Epson R2880. After a lot of initial test printing, looking there, reading that, I have come to the conclusion that Aperture has a major issue with color management printing from it- I have been reading others with Epson R1800, R1900, R2100, R2200, R2400 and Canon Pixma 9500 having similar issues.
I realize I have to turn off the Epson color management, and that improved the printing, but it still looks like a muted sRGB print. When I print from Preview using the Epson sRGB or Epson Adobe if the photo has an Adobe profile or a wide gamut (16 bit tiff), I get much more accurate prints and the colors that I would expect to see. Reds are vibrant and so on.
From Aperture again, it's muted. So as far as I understand Aperture manages the colors for you and the Epson driver has to be turned off in color management, and set to the right paper. I think what needs to happen it hat we should be able to turn Aperture's color management off, and have Aperture send the data to the Epson driver, enable the Epson driver and let it do its job (we enable the Epson driver beforehand, before printing).
I have not been able to find a way to turn Aperture's color management off. This is a major workflow issue for me because I can't really print directly from Aperture which is not very good.
    Any ideas?
    - Raist

    Raist,
First of all, thanks for giving notice that Epson has somewhat quietly introduced the replacement for the R2400 -- I had missed that.
Are you running Tiger, as your Profile info indicates? In Leopard, I see the same issues with properly setting up printing whether printing from Aperture 2, Photoshop CS3 or Pages. Conflict appears to result from allowing the printer to control printing vs the application.
My understanding is that if Color Management is selected, the printer and driver may ignore the color tweaking you have done, and based upon algorithms in the driver make its own adjustments -- this is not something I want to happen. In choosing the color profile in Aperture (done by selecting the paper type and quality) I achieve the better and consistent results. To get equal results from printing from Photoshop, the same settings must be used, but I find the Print Presets in Aperture much easier to accomplish this with. Recently I printed a photo from CS3 (because the final retouching required the use of layers) rather than Aperture, the first attempt was horrible simply because I forgot to turn off color management in the print dialogues.
Again, my understanding is that by selecting the proper Color Profile for the Epson paper being used, and by further turning off color management, you should expect the best, most proper, use of the Epson driver, managed from Aperture.

  • HP B8850 Page Size Error Printing from Aperture 2 (or iPhoto)

I am trying to print on 13x19 (B+) size paper to an HP Photosmart Pro B8850 printer. I get this error when printing from Aperture --> "Page Size Error: Paper size selected in the print driver does not match the paper loaded in the printer IN tray."
    Aperture 2.1.2
    Mac OS X 10.5.6
HP Photosmart Pro B8800 Series Print Driver 2.3.1
I can set the paper size to 13x19 (B+) in the Aperture print dialog, but under the Print Settings button there is no option for paper size, only paper type. So apparently the size that the printer is expecting in the driver does not match the 13x19 that is loaded in the printer. I was able to verify this by leaving all print settings for 13x19 and loading an 8.5 x 11 sheet in the printer. It pulled the paper through and started printing, but the print was scaled to fit onto the 8.5 x 11!
So in other words, the way I'm seeing it, even though I am setting the paper size for 13x19 in Aperture's print dialog, the printer thinks it's suppose to print on 8.5 x 11.
To make matters worse, there is no Page Setup menu item in Aperture to set the paper size in the print driver directly. I would have assumed that the Aperture print dialog was "smart enough" to pass the page size parameter to the HP printer driver, but that is apparently not happening.
I spoke with HP tech support and they were surprisingly helpful. With their help I was able to print on 13x19 paper with HP's bundled software package, but I had to export my file from Aperture and import it into HP's software. Now that's a good first step which assured me there is nothing wrong with the printer itself, but obviously I purchased Aperture to use it's more elegant and supposedly streamlined interface to make my prints.
Has anyone had a similar problem? Any solutions? Suggestions? I have searched this forum, HP's support forum, DP Review, Google and not finding much. I can't believe I'm the only guy trying to print on 13 x 19 from Aperture using this printer. I suspect it's not printer specific though. Could be my system I guess. I plan on calling Apple Care depending on what type of response I get here.

I don't know if this may help, but recently we had a discussion about problems with Aperture's custom paper size not working correctly:
The solution was to define a paper size outside Aperture:
In any application, for example Preview, try to print something and the print dialog comes up. At this point click on Paper size and choose Manage Custom Sizes. You can define a new paper size here. This new custom size will then appear when you go to Aperture print dialog under paper size. It solved my problems with custom paper sizes here, for some reason (a bug?) defining a custom paper size within Aperture itself did not work correctly for me.

  • Printing in Aperture 3 a pain ?

Hello , have a look , I've posted before "Printer problem" and found this , so I'm not alone .
    http://www.google.com/search?btnG=1&pws=0&q=aperture+print+vertical+lines

I print from Aperture all the time, and much prefer that path to using Photoshop, or other apps.  I do not understand your topic, nor have any issue with print quality from Aperture.

  • About printing with Aperture

When I print with PS or any other application (e.i.: Pages) always appears the presets that I have calibrated for printing with my three favorites papers, but with Aperture these presets do not appears and the dialogue of the printer is complety different.
Does anybody knows how can I solve this?

    Hi
I found this article on the apple website to be super helpful. I now get the most accurate prints from Aperture, noticeably superior to anything other program I've tried printing from..

  • Errors ordering prints from Aperture, help?

I've been trying since last night to order prints via Aperture.  They total around 150 prints.  Last night, I would select my images and they would start to upload.  The entire time, Aperture is listed as "application not responding" but the continued to upload.  When finished, I got a message that the order was complete and then got a billing error message.  I tried again and re-entered my card info, same issue.  My billing works fine for the app store (it did before and after the order attempts), it's not a billing issue.
Today, I just entered a different card to see what happens.  Everything uploads and it tells me my order is complete.  However, I never recieved a receipt and there is no record of my order on the order status page.  When I tried to close A3, I get the message "You book is not complete...." so I select to continue uploading...even though the upload is complete. It's being going now like that for 3 hours.  This is crazy.  I just cancelled the order by closing out A3 now for the 8th time in 2 days...each upload takes about 20-30 minutes to complete.  Odd, my connections speeds are currently 22mbps download, 7 upload...a little slower than usual, so the hold up is on Apple's side.
Has anyone had this issue before? Is there a fix for this?  I'm going nuts.  Thanks for any help!

I called Apple Store support.  They were stumped too as I had tried everything they recommended, including chaning billing card that I use, etc.  Then they found a support document about print ordering issues and getting a white screen (which I don't get), this appears to have solved my issue.
Here is what I did. I did have to do BOTH steps.  Please note that "1-Click Settings" is no longer available, so used "Express Checkout" for those steps instead and it was fine.  I was able to put through a test order successfully and then cancel it.  My large order is now uploading.
    Delete the NetServices Keychain item:
Quit Aperture if it is open.
In the Finder, choose Go > Utilities.
Double-click the Keychain Access application in the Utilities folder.
Click Passwords in the Category list on the left side of the window.
Click the NetServices item in the main window and press the delete key to remove it.
    Open Aperture and test.
If the above steps do not resolve the issue:
    Quit Aperture.
Go to the Apple Online Store.
From the Account menu to the left of the Cart icon, choose "1-Click Settings."
Log in to your account with your Apple ID and password.
    Enable 1-Click for your account.
If 1-Click is already enabled, choose Account Information from the Accounts dropdown.
Change the password for your account.
    Open Aperture and test.

  • Prints from Aperture vs Photoshop Different

When I make a print from Aperture the color is off and the print is too light. When I take that same photo and Open With External Editor to Photoshop, the print comes out nearly perfect, and nearly exactly what I see on my 30" ACD.
When printing I turn off System Management of color, so I don't think that's the issue.
I shoot Raw with a Nikon D2x. I calibrated my Epson 4800 and 30" display with Eye-One. The profile of the photo is Adobe RGB 1998. When soft proofing in Aperture I use the printer profile I created with Eye-One and the image looks fine on my display.
I've read various threads where people have solved this problem by making sure they use Adobe RGB 1998 across the board, which I think I am doing.
One huge concern is that I'm ready to have a wedding book published via Apple and I don't know if the images are going to look like they do printed via Aperture, or Photoshop, or something altogether different.
    Greg
Mac Book Pro 17"   Mac OS X (10.4.9)   30" ACD, Epson 4800 printer, Dimage Scan Elite 5400II

    David,
Thank you for enlightening me about the Nikon/color space.
What is frustrating is that I've calibrated my Epson 4800 and 30" ACD. In Aperture the color and exposure looks fine when soft proofing, but my prints come out with a magenta tinge and are too light. When printing the very same file in Photoshop (via Round Trip from Aperture), the image looks the same on my monitor as it did in Aperture but the print comes out very close to what I see on the screen. There has to be something else going on. I turn off the System Management of color, what other settings do you set? However, I set the printing settings the same for Aperture as for Photoshop.
Since you have much of the same set-up as I do, I'd like to turn to another question. I'm trying to order a wedding book via Apple. When I click the "Buy Now" button, all the following dialog boxes have a combination of French, English, Dutch? - and when I reach the final dialog box I see in English, "Please correct the following issues". The item on the list that I should correct is in Dutch or Swedish. Has this ever happened to you and how can I fix the language issue. I searched the threads and see people with the same problem, but no remedy.
Another question if I may... When I click "Buy Now" the first dialog box says that there is a blank text box (which I suspect is the issue that the Dutch sentence is proclaiming). I've tried finding the blank text box by Select All, but only the photo fields are highlighted. Do you know how to find a blank text box?
Thank you for your suggestions. I've asked about the foreign language and text box issues but haven't received an answer yet.

  • Aperture 3 Export Presets wont change

I recently upgraded iPhoto to Aperture 3. I followed the apple instructions on how to transfer your library permanently into Aperture which involved pressing the "Consolidating masters to Library" option. Whenever i tried the consolidation button however an error message came up saying "No referenced files found". This isn't however a major issue for me as i can still see all my iphoto photos in Aperture.
My main issue is that i have imported new RAW images into my aperture library and i've been trying to export the edited versions to a memory stick. Whenever i try to export a version however a the JPEG file reduces to c 300kb compared to the original which is 4mb. I have read previous threads about this issue and people have said i should change the export presets. I have subsequently tried changing the export presets (quality, size, pixels, DPI) and the exported version always ends up being a very small 300kb version of the photo. No change i make to the presets changes the size/quality of the photo i export.
I feel like i've run out of options as nothing i change seems to allow me to change this export issue.
Does anyone have any ideas? Does anyone think this is to do with original point about not being able to consolidate the master files and Aperture saying it can't find the referenced files?

JPEGS will always be smaller then the size of the original RAW file no matter the quality setting you use. The correct question to be asking yourself is how do the exported picture look? If they look good for the use you are going to be using them for then the size of the JPEG file isn't an issue.
If you select presets of 'Original Size' quality 12 and 300dpi you should get a file size close the the original RAW master. But then again its quality not size that you should be focusing on.
If you can't get the quality you need out of JPEG then you should take a look at TIFF's. The have a higher quality and a corresponding bigger file size.

  • Color cast when printing from Aperture

I'm having troubles with printing since the last upgrade of Aperture.I'm using the Canon ipF5100.
When I print using Aperture the is a nasty greenish color. Now I've to switch to Photoshop CS3 to make a print.
Before the update I could make fine prints.
I have callibrated the screen and the paper I use.
    I switch to no correction.
    Who can advise me?
    Kees Bakker

    Kees,
This sounds like it's the bug with Camera Raw 2.2, rather than Aperture itself. I and many others on this forum had similar issues and reverting to Camera Raw 2.1 fixed things. See this thread and the link to the solution thread:

  • Cannot print from Aperture v.2.1.2 to an Epson Artisan 800 printer

I recently purchased an Epson Artisan 800 printer and I would like to be able to print from Aperture. Unfortunately, I have been unable to do so, in spite of multiple conversations with the Epson support group. I am able to print from other applications, such as TextEdit, Safari, and iPhoto. However, when I try to print from Aperture, I never get any output from the printer. Depending on the image that I try to print from Aperture, I will see an error message flash on the printer's display screen.
I captured the following error message from the "system.log" file:

I am having this problem on both my iMac G5 and my wife's MacBook. Both are running the latest versions of Mac OS X (10.5.6) and the latest version of Aperture.
If anyone has been able to print from Aperture to an Epson Artisan 800 printer, please let me know how you did it. Thanks.
    Bruce

I run 10.4.11 and am unfamiliar with that specific Epson. However step one with Epson troubleshooting is to do any OS updates then download and install the latest Epson driver, even if what you are using is current. The new install will simply install over the old installation. Repair Permissions via Disk Utility immediately before and again immediately after both the OS updates and the printer driver installation.
Once good Epson paper and a new driver installation are done the final step is to carefully follow Gary Ballard's excellent color management tutorials:
    <http://www.gballard.net/psd.html>
    Good luck!

P.S. Epson tech support for consumer printers has always been worse than useless. Specialized support for the pro printers is pretty good.

  • Is there a reason I can't print wirelessly in Aperture? I am able to from other programs. When I try to print in Aperture, the printer tells me it's offline.

Aperture won't print a photo wirelessly. My other programs print fine wirelessly. Anybody know why? I'm using OS X 10.6.8, Aperture 3.2.4 on an iMac with an Epson Artisan printer. When I try to print in Aperture, the printer utility tells me the printer is offline. But it isn't. I am shooting in RAW, by the way.

I don't have much, but ... make sure you are selecting the entry for the _wireless printer_.  It's been some time since I did this — and a few OS's and Aperture versions ago — but I remember that there were multiple entries for my printer: USB, Ethernet, Wireless, and mounted to other computers on the network.

We use CS6, yes we calibrate using x-rite. I have always had adobe manage colors when printing. This problem just occurred, all my settings are the same as they have been for years. The only thing we did lately is do an update to CS6. We thought it might be our printer but when we use the printer manages color it works fine, The problem with adobe manages color is it is not blending the light highlights like on top of the cheeks with the colors around the cheeks  and its putting a faint red between the two it just does not have a smooth transition. I printed a photo that I had printed 4 months ago with no issue, and this time it had the issue that I am dealing with now. Somehow the photo shop manages color is not getting the right info to my printer.

  • I ordered prints in aperture but they never came. How can I check on the status?

I ordered prints on Aperture. It was an expensive order.
I got a confirmation screen but no email.
Its now been 2 weeks so I can assume they aren't coming.

  • Oder prints causes Aperture to hang

    Hi all
Whenever I select the "Order prints" menu item Aperture immediately brings up a sheet with the text "Connecting ..." and a spinner icon and then hangs forever. I assume that this is the time when Aperture should update the list of available print products and pricing information, but nothing ever happens.
I'm currently running Aperture 3.3.1 but the error was present in previous versions of Aperture 3.x.
I have tried deleting the preferences (~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.Aperture.plist) but this didn't help.
Interestingly ordering prints from iPhoto works. Since Aperture and iPhoto now share the same library format, ordering prints from iPhoto is a workaround, but I would prefer printing from Aperture directly.
Does anybody have an idea what is going wrong?
    Kind regards,
    Christian

My recent upgrade of the OS to version 10.8 (Mountain Lion) and the Aperture update to version 3.2.2 have solved this problem for me.

  • In PP Interface related issues the role of functional consultant

In PP Interface related issues what is the role of functional consultant .  what is the approach steps to analyse and resolve the issues  in XI, interface, idoc, etc.,

For issues relating to interfaces, a functional person would need to diagnose what is causing the issue & thereby informing the technical person where to fix it, if the issue is due to system setup.
As regards to the steps, I just wish there was a manual which read something like
10 steps on how to analyze....
unfortunately there is none that I have come across or even if one is ever written on those lines will be very specific, so not much of use for your need. A good approach would be to have a clear understanding of what the interface is supposed to do, which would assist you in fixing the issues.
