Printing in Duplexmode

Dear Community,
iam faced with the need to enable a Ricoh Printer's duplex ability within in SAP BASIS (Kernel Version 7.0 and/or less). Due to the fact im very new to SAP (just a few days) i would appreciate some assistence in this task. Therefore i have some questions:
- what are the requirements for a Printer (and its driver?) to use its duplex ability under SAP BASIS?
- does a wizard exist for this kind of requests?
Furthermore I have found this description, that seems to point right at this question; but i guess i didnt get it at all:
<link to clone site removed by moderator, see SAP note 1036961>
i would really appreciate it, if u could help me out with this!
thank you

Thank you so far! Though it didn't solve my problem it gave some very good ideas! I appreciate your posting!
I did change the printing properties for one printer to duplex and made him print two pages. Unfortunately the output was again on 2 papers. The printer itself supports the needed protocolls for a duplex printage via SAP.
My guess: the Printer I am trying this on is not directly related to SAP itself but to Windows. Could that be the reason? And if u agree, how can I relate a certain Printer to SAP.
Thanks again

  • Any way to override default printer settings into a PDF

    Hi -- I work for a large organization that has lots of computers and printers and prints a lot of forms and documents.  We are moving towards more digitization of documents and records including printing forms as needed as opposed to having large sets of forms onhand.  This should save us a lot of time and money once complete as these forms often change and the old process would be to then trash much of these documents and re-print for just one change.  The majority of our printers do have letter & legal trays as well as duplex support, however due to the vast number of users the default printer settings tied to each user and/or computer may be slightly different.  While standardizing all the printer settings across all users/computers would be one solution, we don't anticipate doing this as depending on the job peformed the different settings may be more preferable / advantageous for that user.
    As such the other solution I can think of is to hardcode the specific printer settings needed to correctly print a large document into that PDF file which may differ from that computer's print settings.  For example, the default computer print settings may be to print on just 1 side but duplex would be encoded / scripted directly into the PDF so IRREGARDLESS of the computer/printer settings this document would always print duplexed.
    Is there anyway to do this?  I would need to do more than just duplexing -- ie some form sets would need to be both duplexed and 'fit to printable area' whereas some would need to be only on one page and 'shrunk to printable area', etc, etc.  Our current practice is to insert a 1 page coversheet at the front of each document with the printer settings that need to be used for that form set, however this has been difficult for some users to do and has caused unnecessary time with our IT troubleshooting form printing.

    Hi Brandon,
    You can use the Print Presets in Acrobat for that purpose. Please follow the steps below:
    1. Open the PDF in Acrobat
    2. Open Document Properties dialog (using Ctrl + D)
    3. Select the "Advanced" tab
    4. In the "Print dialog Presets" section, you can choose DuplexMode as well as Page Scaling for this document.
    Please let us know if this works for you

  • How to save print setup for pdf file so that every user can open and print w/o manually performing?

    Can is there a way to configure the print settings (i.e. paper size, orientation, etc.) and save this setting as part of the pdf file? I would like the users of pdf files to be able to open the file and simply print, without having to manually configure the print settings.

    Not sure if this will help. I got this information from the built-in help under Acrobat 9.
    Advanced
    Lists PDF settings, print dialog presets, and reading options for the document.In the PDF settings for Acrobat, you can set a base Uniform Resource Locator (URL) for web links in the document. Specifying a base URL makes it easy for you to manage web links to other websites. If the URL to the other site changes, you can simply edit the base URL and not have to edit each individual web link that refers to that site. The base URL is not used if a link contains a complete URL address.
    You can also associate a catalog index file (PDX) with the PDF. When the PDF is searched with the Search PDF window, all of the PDFs that are indexed by the specified PDX file are also searched.
    You can include prepress information, such as trapping, for the document. You can define print presets for a document, which prepopulate the Print dialog box with document-specific values. You can also set reading options that determine how the PDF is read by a screen reader or other assistive device.
    Create print presets
    A PDF can contain a set of print presets, a group of document-specific values that is used to set basic print options. By creating a print preset for a document, you can avoid manually setting certain options in the Print dialog box each time you print the document. It’s best to define print settings for a PDF at the time that you create it, but print presets provide a means to add basic print settings to a PDF at any time.
    Choose File > Properties, and click the Advanced tab.
    In the Print Dialog Presets section, set options and click OK.
    The next time you open the Print dialog box, the values will be set to the print preset values. These settings are also used when you print individual documents in a PDF Portfolio.
    Note: To retain a print preset for a PDF, you must save the PDF after creating the print preset.
    Print Dialog Presets
    Page Scaling
    Prepopulates the Page Scaling option in the Print dialog box with the option you choose:
    Default
    Uses the application default setting, which is Shrink To Printable Area.
    None
    Prevents automatic scaling to fit the printable area. This setting is useful for preserving the scale of page content in engineering documents, or for ensuring that documents print at a particular point size to be legal.
    DuplexMode
    For best results, the selected printer should support duplex printing if you select a duplex option.
    Simplex
    Prints on one side of the paper.
    Duplex Flip Long Edge
    Prints on both sides of the paper; the paper flips along the long edge.
    Duplex Flip Short Edge
    Prints on both sides of the paper; the paper flips along the short edge.
    Paper Source By Page Size
    Selects the option by the same name in the Print dialog box. Uses the PDF page size to determine the output tray rather than the page setup option. This option is useful for printing PDFs that contain multiple page sizes on printers that have different-sized output trays.
    Print Page Range
    Prepopulates the Pages box in the Print Range section of the Print dialog box with the page ranges you enter here. This setting is useful in a workflow where documents include both instruction pages and legal pages. For example, if pages 1–2 represent instructions for filling out a form, and pages 3–5 represent the form, you can set up your print job to print multiple copies of only the form.
    Number Of Copies
    Prepopulates the Copies box in the Print dialog box. Choose a number from 2 to 5, or choose Default to use the application default, which is one copy. This limitation prevents multiple unwanted copies from being printed.
    Thanks.

  • How can I save a Adobe document to print duplex for other users.

    I want to create a doc using Adobe and be able to set it to print duplex by other users without the user needed to go into printer settings.
    All the user has to do is click print on there computer and the doc. will print duplex. The users have Adobe Reader installed.

    It is possible to set a default value for the Adobe Reader or Acrobat print dialog on a document basis. After the document is created, go to Document Properties (Ctrl-D), and select the Advanced tab. Go to the DuplexMode setting. Normally, this is set to Simplex, i.e. single sided printing. You can also set it to either Duplex Flip Long Edge or Duplex Flip Short Edge depending upon your needs. Duplex Flip Long Edge is normally used for printing of “portrait” orientation content with Duplex Flip Short Edge typically used for printing of “landscape” orientation content. Then save the PDF file (typically, “save as” should be used).
    Important notes: Obviously, this only works if the PDF file is being opened by one of the applications that even bothers to look at these settings. Adobe Reader and Acrobat do. Don't count on MacOS Preview or other applications to do so! Furthermore (and somewhat obviously), this setting is only observed with print devices that directly support duplex printing. And finally, this does not force the user to print duplex. It simply pre-populates the print dialog; the user can change the setting.

  • Adobe Acrobat X Pro on Mac does not select duplex print by default

    I have Adobe Acrobat X Pro 10.1.8 for Mac. When I print a document, Acrobat does not select duplex print (i.e. "Print on both sides") by default. While I can manually select duplex print, I don't understand why this isn't the default option here as in every other application. Just for reference, here is a screen shot of my default print screen:
    I have played around with duplex printing in the advanced properties of PDF's. I have also played around with the DuplexMode property in the com.adobe.Acrobat.Pro.plist file. Actually, there is no DuplexMode property in the file, but I tried making one, which didn't solve the problem. There is a printBookletDuplexMode property but that doesn't seem to make a different. In any case, nothing has worked.
    There are some similar questions on the forums, but they are either slightly different or haven't been answered. Is this such a difficult issue?
    Thanks for any help,
    Jonathan
    Message was edited by: jondaman21. Small clarification to what I've tried.

    I agree with your statement; even for a particular document, if I choose to "Print on both sides" and then print again immediately after, "Print on both sides" will be deselected.
    However, I'm not sure what you're implying by you're statement. I'm asking precisely why this setting isn't sticky. Acrobat uses a non-standard printer dialog; in the usual dialog I can easily set a defualt duplex setting. I almost always want to print duplex. Why can't I do this by default in Acrobat?

  • Silent print pdf using advanced settings

    I have written a program in vb.net and need to be able to print pdf's from wiyhin the program using the Print Dialogue Presets Ie Page Scaling, DuplexMode and Paper Source by Page Size as set in the Advanced Properties of the pdf file.
    Ideally this will be done with little or no user input.
    How can I acheive this?

    For the last page set NumCopies to 1.

  • No option to print duplex in 10.1.9

    I'm using a Mac running OS 10.6.5 and Reader 10.1.9. My printer is a Samsung ML-2950.  It is capable of duplex printing. In fact, when I print using Preview there is a checkbox to select double-sided printing (and it works!).
    From what I've read online, there is supposed to be a similar checkbox in the Reader Print menu under the Size selection.  There is not.
    Why does Preview allow duplex printing and Reader does not?
    ****Workaround****
    My exact printer is a Samsung ML2955ND.  For my document, in Reader's Properties, Advanced menu, DuplexMode is set to Simplex (it is grayed out and can't be changed).
    I was able to print double-sided by:
    1. Selecting the Page Setup button in Reader's Print Menu. Select Yes in the next screen. Then, in the Page Setup screen, make sure Format  For specifies your printer and not Any Printer.
    2. Following the instructions at http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/print-double-sided-acrobat-reader.html for a Mac.
    If I did only Step 2 and Page Setup was set to Any Printer, I got single-sided results.  Kind of makes sense.
    Don't know why Preview and every other application on my Mac can pick up  from the Samsung print driver that duplex printing is available and provide the appropriate check box in the Print Menu. But, Reader doesn't pick it up and makes you go through extra steps.

    I'm using Acrobat 8.3.1 under Mac OS 10.6.8 and also had no option for double sided when printing on a new Samsung M2835DW. Despite the print manager saying duplex was active, it kept spitting out single pages. I found a web picture showing a box in the Mac print dialogue labelled two-sided (at http://www.samsung.com/us/support/howtoguide/N0000189/17716/241041/CLX-6260FD/XAA) - so where had that gone in Acrobat? I then noticed the picture was for printing in TextEdit. Low and behold, the two-sided option comes up and works in this programme. But that doesn't help with Acrobat and Microsoft Office. What you need to do in TextEdit is to click on the Presets drop-down menu in the print dialogue box and then click 'save as', giving it a name such as duplex. That option will then appear in all other programmes. Why doesn't Acrobat or Office provide a route into this option? - who knows, but they should.

  • PrintParams "silent" ignores PDF Print Preset to Duplex

    Hello All,
    Here is my script to send a PDF to the default printer.
    var pp = this.getPrintParams();
    var fv = pp.constants.flagValues;
    pp.flags = (fv.setPageSize=false);//Sets the Auto-Rotate and Center Flag
    pp.interactive = 0;// 0=interactive, 1=auto, 2=silent
    pp.pageHandling = 3;//3=shrink to fit
    this.print(pp);
    the problem is that my PDF has my desired Document Properites Print Dialog Preset "DuplexMode" set to Duplex Flip Short Edge, and that property is ignored if the interactive is set to silent or automatic. It is honored if the print dialog is prompted and the user enters "OK".
    The  pp.flags = (fv.setPageSize=false); seems to be undocumented, but I stumbled upon it and it produces the desired result (sets Auto Rotate and Center). I hope it may be helpful to others.
    Any ideas why my preset is being ignored in silent mode, and any way to make it work?
    Thank you in advance and Happy Holidays,

  • Printing question: Is this possible

    Is there a way that the document can be set to print duplex via code
    I have a doc that prints duplex but only if you tell the printer to do duplex. Most of the users just hit the print button and it comes out on 2 pages. What i would like to do is embed some code or some sort of instruction set in the document.
    Thanks for any comments
    Wayne

    Several ways to do this -
    (Option available only in LiveCycle Desginer ES)
    From the toolbar menu choose "File > Form Properties ..." then choose the "PDF Print Options" tab. You can set the form to duplex in there (it adds an XML tag setting duplexMode to an integer value).
    (Option available via script)
    var myDoc = event.target;
    var pp = myDoc.getPrintParams();
    pp.DuplexType = <constant>;
    myDoc.print(pp);
    Where <constant> is one of:
    pp.constants.duplexTypes.DontCare
    pp.constants.duplexTypes.Simplex
    pp.constants.duplexTypes.DuplexFlipLongEdge
    pp.constants.duplexTypes.DuplexFlipShortEdge

I'm not used to coding, so I would be pleased for an easy to understand explanation, if it is possible via script.
    Thanks.

  • Duplex printing: Please help with 2 sided manual printing

    Tried inserting script into document set action.  It did not work.  What script do I need to print a two sided document without a duplex printer

  • Are PrintParams overriden by Windows Printer Preferences?

    Hi,
    I want to create a form which prints silently, and bypasses all settings such as scaling and Duplex settings - I've created a sample form (attached) with the following script on a button click event
    var myDoc = event.target;
            var pp = myDoc.getPrintParams();
            // Insert your Printer name here ....
            pp.printerName = "Brother MFC-7420 USB Printer";
            pp.DuplexType = 1;
            pp.nUpNumPagesH = 1;
            pp.nUpNumPagesV = 1;
            pp.tileScale = 1;
            pp.tileOverlap = 0;
            pp.nUpAutoRotate = false;
            pp.reversePages = false;
            pp.interactive = pp.constants.interactionLevel.silent;
            sfmTop.txtPrintOP.rawValue = pp.toSource();
            myDoc.print(0, "0", (xfa.host.numPages - 1).toString(), 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, pp);
    Problem is that if the user in Windows has Printer Preferences set then it appears that these override the settings passed in th pp object.
    My client needs to ensure that Duplex and reversing is turned off, but it doesn't happen if the printer preferences have these set!
    Many Thanks,
    Tim

    Hi Tim,
    Duplex can be specified in the Form Properties / Print Options tab:
    I have tested it here and if the printer defaults is simplex and the form is set for duplex; then the form settings will override the printer defaults and print in duplex.
    In your case you would need to set the form to print in simplex, as per the screen shot above. This should override the printer default of duplex printing.
    This is a setting you make a design stage. I don't think you can change the duplex/simplex settings using script. At the end of the XML Source tab you will see the settings from the File / Form Properties tab:
    <?PDFPrintOptions embedPrintOnFormOpen 0?>
    <?PDFPrintOptions scalingPrefs 0?>
    <?PDFPrintOptions enforceScalingPrefs 0?>
    <?PDFPrintOptions paperSource 1?>
    <?PDFPrintOptions duplexMode 1?>
    But I don't think you can access these programmatically.
    That said I think you can achieve what you want between the Form Properties and the xfa print parameters.
    Good luck,
    Niall.

  • Adobe reader printing: A4 vs US letter

    Hi, I'm using Adobe Reader 8.1.1 on Linux (Red Hat enterprise Linux 4). Printers are defined on a remote CUPS-server.
    As I'm not in US/Canada, I have printers which use sensible paper: A4 ;-)
    The CUPS server has ppd files which define the default paper size as A4,
    and that size is confirmed if I use the "kprinter" command to look at the properties of each CUPS-defined printer.
    If in Adobe Reader 8, I view an A4-size PDF document, I can confirm it's A4 by looking at File -> Properties. If I then go to File -> Print, then there are several oddities:
    1) with the "Choose paper source by PDF page size" unchecked, the page size shown by the Preview box on the right-hand-side shows US-letter size dimensions;
    2) if I then continue to actually print, the printer LCD screen confirms that the Adobe Reader is trying to use US Letter size paper, and in the case of one make of printer, refuses to print it.
    3) If I try to get more information about what Adobe Reader thinks about the printer by clicking on Properties next to the printer selection, nothing happens.
    4) If I check the "Choose paper source by PDF page size" box, then all is well and the print does come out as A4. However, that ticked box is not remembered for next time, so the user is perpetually having to remember to check that box.
    This problem appeared in later versions of Adobe Reader 7, but was not present in version 7.0.1, which was probably not CUPS-aware.
    I suspect a problem with dealing with the information retrieved via CUPS. Does anyone know of a circumvention, or a fix?? Thanks.

    Note: To retain a print preset for a PDF, you must save the PDF after creating the print preset.
    Print Dialog Presets
    Page Scaling Prepopulates the Page Scaling option in the Print dialog box with the option you choose:
    Default Uses the application default setting, which is Shrink To Printable Area.
    None Prevents automatic scaling to fit the printable area. This setting is useful for preserving the scale of page content in engineering documents, or for ensuring that documents print at a particular point size to be legal.
    DuplexMode For best results, the selected printer should support duplex printing if you select a duplex option.
    Simplex Prints on one side of the paper.
    Duplex Flip Long Edge Prints on both sides of the paper; the paper flips along the long edge.
    Duplex Flip Short Edge Prints on both sides of the paper; the paper flips along the short edge.
    Paper Source By Page Size Selects the option by the same name in the Print dialog box. Uses the PDF page size to determine the output tray rather than the page setup option. This option is useful for printing PDFs that contain multiple page sizes on printers that have different-sized output trays.
    Print Page Range Prepopulates the Pages box in the Print Range section of the Print dialog box with the page ranges you enter here. This setting is useful in a workflow where documents include both instruction pages and legal pages. For example, if pages 12 represent instructions for filling out a form, and pages 35 represent the form, you can set up your print job to print multiple copies of only the form.
    Number Of Copies Prepopulates the Copies box in the Print dialog box. Choose a number from 2 to 5, or choose Default to use the application default, which is one copy. This limitation prevents multiple unwanted copies from being printed.
