Printing in GNOME on OES2 server

Hello,
I'm trying to set-up a network printer in GNOME for the root user on an OES2 server.
Since I'm not familiar with Linux, I'm a little bit in the dark here.
The iPrint part is working (tested from a workstation), but when I try to install an iPrint printer on the server it fails with the message "iPrint Lib - The administrator may not have assigned a driver or the server may not support printer/driver installation for this platform."
Since I have added a Linux driver to the driver store I'm guessing it is the second part of the message.
It might be that the root user is not part of the eDirectory?
I then tried to get cups started. To prevent a conflict with iPrint I changed cups.conf to use port 632.
This worked and I am able to add our network printer (same as the iPrint printer) a print a test page.
However, when I try to add the printer using YAST Printer Configuration, the configuration tool freezes at 60% with the message Loading current settings...
I found some threads telling to delete the /var/lib/YaST2/ppd_db.ycp file.
This did not help. The driver database is rebuild, but then the Printer Configuration tools freezes again at 60%.
The threads also said that an updated cups should be downgraded to the original version shipped with SLES 10.2.
This didn't help either.
By the way, when I use lp -dPRINTER (where PRINTER is the printername in the eDirectory) it does work.
Any other tips or ideas?
Kind regards,
Maikel

  • WIndows 7 64-bit system printing to a Windows 2000 server configured as a print server

    Is there any way to configure a new Windows 7 64-bit computer to use a Windows 2000 server configured as a print server ?
    The printer that I would like to connect to is an HP 4240n LaserJet. I appears that there is only a 64-bit Universal Print Driver available. The server currently uses HP 32-bit PCL5e or PCL6 drivers for all other connected computers. Connection is through a Hewlett-Packard Network Port, using DLC/LLC transport for the embedded 4240n print server.
    Installing  the HP 64-bit UPD to the WIndows 7 64-bit system, and then attempting to redirect the local port to the Win2k network print server has not worked.
    Thanks for any advice.

    Hi:
    See if this works...
    Run msconfig.
    In the System Configuration screen, Boot tab, Advanced Options, if there is a check mark in the box next to Maximum memory. Remove that checkmark and save your changes.
    Reboot and hopefully Windows recognises all the Ram ( minus the reserved ) after restarting.
    Please give that a try, and post back and let us know if that frees up some system memory for you.

  • Officejet 6700 error while searching for updates: 'Printer could not connect to server'

    I recently purchase the Officejet 6700 Premium. While setting the printer up, I received the error 'The printer could not connect to the server.' I first received this while the printer was searching for updates. I later received the same error while trying to set up ePrint from my computer.
    The printer is connected through my wireless router. All other print services function normally. It is connected to the network, and I have printed several times over the wireless network.
    Though I don't think it matters, since the on-board print set-up gave me the error, I run Windows 7 64-bit on my computer.
    Thanks for any help!

    What is the IP address of the printer?  What is the make and model of the router that you use in the wireless set up? Is the router firmware up to date?
    I would first try power cycling the router and the printer. Turn off/unplug the router and then power down the printer. Then plug the router back in and wait for it to be fully up and functioning before turning the printer back on.  After you have both pieces of equipment back on and functioning attempt to connect to web services again.
    If still having problems I would attempt to set a static DNS on the printer through the embedded web server (EWS) by entering the printer's IP address into the address bar of  a browser on a computer.
    Once that computer displays that page click on the Network tab.
    Then look in the column to the left and find the Wireless section
    Click on IPv4
    Then on that page look at the 2nd section that is labeled DNS Address configuration
    Change the radio button to the manual option
    Then for the manual preferred fill it out and make sure it reads 8.8.8.8
    Secondary should be set to 8.8.4.4
    Then hit Apply
    Read the next screen carefully. That message with the "OK" button below it  is one that states to click that button to undo the changes you  just made.  Just navigate away from that page by clicking on another tab.
    Then reattempt to connect to web services.

  • How to print HTML to a remote Server

    Ho guys my problem is only this
    how to print HTML to a remote Server
    i hav used JavaPrintService for it javax.print....
    The Doc Flavor i used is
    DocFlavor.INPUT_STREAM_TEXT_HTML_HOST;
    and with simple print attribute set but it doesnt locates
    the PrintSerivces.
    Plz try this code on your system(Jdk1.4 beta) and see whether it detects PrintServices or not
    import java.io.*;
    import javax.print.*;
    import javax.print.attribute.*;
    import javax.print.attribute.standard.*;
    import javax.print.event.*;
    public class PrintHTML {
    FileReader readfile;
    Doc doc;
         public static void main(String args[]) {
              PrintHTML ps = new PrintHTML();
         public PrintHTML() {
              DocFlavor flavor =DocFlavor.INPUT_STREAM_TEXT_HTML_HOST;
              PrintRequestAttributeSet aset =
                   new HashPrintRequestAttributeSet();
              aset.add(MediaSizeName.ISO_A4);
              // aset.add(OrientationRequested.LANDSCAPE);
              aset.add(new Copies(1));
    PrintService[] pservices =
                   PrintServiceLookup.lookupPrintServices(flavor, aset);
    if (pservices.length > 0) {
                   System.out.println("Available printer " + pservices[0].getName());
                   System.out.println("Available printer " + pservices[1].getName());
                   System.out.println("Available printer " + pservices[2].getName());

    The documentation is misleading. You cannot directly print HTML. See:

  • Windows update requirements for Xerox print drivers on Windows 2003 server

    Hello, We are currently deploying a fleet of Xerox MFD's across ~100 locations, and we are running into an issue installing the print drivers on some Windows Server 2003 (32bit) boxes. (both the machine specific driver, as well as the Xerox Global print driver) The print driver installs fine, but no jobs will actually print, and if you try and print a test page, an error "Test page failed to print. Would you like to view the print troubleshooter for assistance?" comes up instantly. We have seem to have narrowed the problem down to a missing Windows update, as if we do all available High Priority and Optional updates, it starts to work fine. Does anybody know specifically which Windows updates are a requirement for the driver?  Our 2003 servers were last fully updated about a year ago, and due to time constraints, if we could just install the Windows updates that are needed it would be a big help. Thank you in advance

    When Xerox dropped support for XP, they stopped adding particular files from the driver packs (probably for size reduction) because they were all included by default in every newer OS. If you install this here on any XP/2003 base machines it will work as normal. It is best to install that before the driver install, but I have been mostly lucky to have it work fine days later. YMMV

  • Print a message from SQL server to notepad

    Hi ,
    Is it possible to print a message in SQL server and that message should be saved in a .txt file (in local file system)
    Thanks in advance!!!

    I don't think there is a straight forward approach to solve your problem but you can try Li's suggestion or the one which is given below
    The SQL file must have print statement.
    Master..xp_cmdshell 'sqlcmd -S servername -i f:\dynamic.sql -E>>f:\backupoutput.sql'
    --Prashanth

  • Cannot Print in IE11 on Terminal Server 2012

    I am having an issue with printing with IE11 in Terminal Server 2012.
    Issue-
    The print preview shows up as blank, and when I hit print, nothing happens(the print window never shows up). I can print from other applications fine. Additionally, this is only affecting one user on my terminal server. Everyone else is able to print out
    of Internet Explorer fine. I have tried launching IE with add-ons disabled and the problem exists in both 64/32 bit IE. I have rebooted my terminal server. The user is still unable to print from IE. I have checked that enhanced IE security is off.
    Nothing seems to be working here.
    Any suggestions?

    Hi,
    According to your description, this just occurs to particular user profile. Please check if there is a Low folder existed in following path:
    "%userprofile%\AppData\Local\Temp
    If it does exist, take these steps to apply the integrity level:
    1.Open a Command Prompt, and then click Run as administrator.
    2.Type following command and press ENTER:
    ICACLS "%userprofile%\AppData\Local\Temp\Low" /setintegritylevel (OI)(CI)low
    3.Restart the computer.
    4.Print or print preview a Web page in Internet Explorer.

  • How to issue print command from report/form server to client printer on web

    1) We have a client server application which is to be deployed on the web environment. The reports generated in our application are having a destination type as File. These reports are printed after applying some print format (escape sequences) which are passed on to the printer programmatically at runtime while printing.
    Now when this application is shifted on to the Application server (Forms server & Reports Server )in web environment ,the report outputs would be generated in the application server as against the client in client server environment as the report server is on the application server.
    Now while printing/accessing the report the output file will not be available to the client unless it is pushed on to the client side from the server . I am able to see reports in pdf/html output but in this case layout of my reports gets changed and I dont want to change my layouts or reformat my report layouts.
    How do I redirect the report output from the application server on to the client within the D2k context and then execute print commands?
    Note: In this case we want to use both DMT and Laser printing. Also note that we use escape sequences to adjust reports in desired printing papers.
    2) We have second set of reports which we call as document because these are printed after capturing data from 'Form' using text_io utility (please note that for these documents we are not using any Report 6i functionality)and we print it from file using printing mechanism as mentioned above. These are working well in client server application. We adopted this methodology for getting better performance (in terms of speed as database server and network traffic is not involved) of printing. But now we are converting our application for web, we are finding it difficult how to capture Form's data from browser to client's machine and then executing printing commands which are stored in our application liabrary.
    If you help me out by giving some suggestions, I shall be grateful to you.

    Hello
    I wonder if you ever solved this problem.
    I have a very similar problem with Photoshop CS5 on Mac OSX 10.6 + HP Photosmart C7180.
    If I choose "Photoshop Manages Colors" the results are lousy.
    If I choose "Printer Manages Colors" the results are OK. not necessarily great.
    I believe I have all the correct settings after going through books and web advice (and wasted a lot of paper and ink).
    As far as I can see, "ColorSync" is the internal Mac management which is the only option available with "Photoshop Manages Colors" and "Vendor Matching" appears to mean the printer vendor (ie HP) will provide the matching. Either can be selected if "Printer Manages Colors" is used. It seems the type of paper can be set in three different places. if That's all a bit academic as the results are poor regardless.
    My wife suggests I buy a new printer - Epson's looking good.
    Any words of wisdom would be appreciated.

  • Printing glitches on my archlinux server

    Hello archers,
    i've been having some problems with my archlinux server. Connected to the server is a HP Laserjet CM1312 printer via USB, server is shared via CUPS and Samba.
    I've followed the Archwiki guide for CUPS and Samba for installing the printer.
    The specific problem i'm having is printing from a Windows machine. After printing has begun, printing is first fine, but then it'll sometimes start to print gibberish like this (with PCL5): http://ompldr.org/vNzd2aw
    I've yet to experience problems printing from my linux machine. I've tried shifting in between drivers on the Windows machine (PCL5, PCL6, Postscript)
    Switching to a Postscript driver on the Windows machine prints fine, but after a while produces errors like this: http://ompldr.org/vNzd2dw
    CUPS error log contains:

    You may try using Sybase ASE; for long time (until 6.0), MS SQL Server was just Sybase with MS branding and even today differences are not so big (depending, of course, on specific application's needs). I have never tried such a setup, but connecting to MSSQL with Sybase client libraries works OK, maybe you'd have luck in opposite direction.
    There is a document on migrating apps from MSSQL to ASE; I know this is not the case, but there are some valuable information about differences between those RDBMSs that may help you to decide whether there are chances to succeed or not.

  • Print PDF file from app.server

    Hello,
    I need to print a PDF file from the application server without any dialog for the user.
    Is it possible? and if so- how?
    Is it also possible to do the same with office file (DOC,XLS)?
    Thanks
    Moshe

    Hi,
    CV150_RPINT_DOC for frontend execution.
    FM SAP_PDF_VIEWER_DEMO- foreground only.
    using fm SXPG_COMMAND_EXECUTE in background.
    thanks & regards.

  • CR XI landscape report not printing correctly on one particular server

    Post Author: BronxJedi
    CA Forum: General
    I have a report that was designed in Crystal XI (11.5.0.313) that is not previewing or printing correctly when the users access it on our production server. The report is designed as a landscape report, for an 8.5x11 size paper; however, when this report is previewed on the production server all of the data is pushed over to the left, as though the computer is trying to cram it all into a portrait-sized layout. Furthermore, when viewing the Document Properties of the report in preview it says that the page size is 11x17!
    This report, I should mention, is part of a web application designed in Visual Studio. When users select a report to run the application actually displays the report as a PDF document in an Adobe Reader window. So, when I mention "preview" in this post it is not the Crystal Reports print preview window but rather an Adobe Reader window previewing the report as a PDF document.
    None of the other landscape reports in this application are demonstrating this same problem. Also, the report in question previews and prints perfectly fine when it is run on other computers or servers.
    Currently, we have eliminated design flaws in the report as a suspect because all of the pertinent properties in the report's design are set properly. We have also eliminated the users' printer settings as the culprit because the problem exists no matter who attempts to print that particular report and no matter what printer is chosen.
    Right now we are operating under the assumption that the problem lies within the server (which is a new box that just replaced one which died...the hardware on this new box is different, I am told by our server guy, but everything else was mirrored from the old box); however, we are unsure of what to examine in our attempts to fix it.
    The production server is running Win 2003 Server, R2, SP2 and there are no apparent printer drivers installed on the production server. We are using Adobe Reader 8.0 on all machines that can access this report.
    If anybody out there has had this same problem or knows of anything else we can check (either on the production server or within the report's design) we'd appreciate it. Why would only this particular report be exhibiting this problem and why on Earth would the Adobe Document Properties think that the page size is 11x17?
    Thank you,
    Sean

    Once you find an erroneous report, can the report be re-run over the same data (same parameters, same underlying data records after record selection) and the error duplicated?
    Can you dump the data read by Crystal in the Detail section of the report?  (Verify the data is as expected...)
    Can you post the stored procedure?  (Please wrap it in  markup to keep it readable.  A sample of both crosstabs wrapped in the markup would be helpful, too.)

  • How to print pdf file in SQL Server Reporting services report using command prompt?

    Is there a way to automatically print a SQL Server Reporting services report on command prompt? For eg: We can save a pdf file using rs.exe utility. I want to print a pdf using rs.exe utility. Is it possible? I don't want to install any 3rd party software.

    Thanks Simon for replying to my question.
    In oracle form, there is oracle command to print the report from command prompt with the help of rwrun.exe
    e.g: rwrun.exe   REPORT="D:\Test\REP_25\MLA.REP" DESNAME="testprinter" DESTYPE="PRINTER" P_FORMNAME="MLA.FMX" P_SPRACHE="E" P_SPRACHE_NR2="1" P_WHERE_BEDINGUNG="order by land_nr" USERID="test/test.world" PSV_NAME="PSV_DEMO" PSV_JOB_ID="PS$9583" RECURSIVE_LOAD="NO"
    BATCH="YES" NONBLOCKSQL="NO" ARRAYSIZE="1" PARAMFORM="NO" ERRFILE="c:\temp\psv16.tmp"<
    and to save the report we just need to change DESNAME="c:\temp\OC_100001349.pdf" DESTYPE="FILE" in above command instead of DESNAME="testprinter" DESTYPE="PRINTER".
    DESNAME and DESTYPE are the input parameters of the respective report.
    In SSRS, we can run the file from the command prompt and save it.
    rs -i "C:\Users\pujarswa\Documents\reports\new\LoadReport.rss" -s ww2004760:80/ReportServer_MSSQL -v fileName="C:\Users\pujarswa\Desktop\TipsReportLoad.pdf"
    -v reportPath="/TipsReport/LoadListTabular" -t -v format="PDF" -v LandNr=4 -u ap\swati -p test@# -e Exec2005
    But we cannot use same command for printing as you said we need to create another script for printing files.
    I have gone through the links but I dont want to use Adobe Acrobat Reader exe for printing because client it may not have Adobe Acrobat Reader on their machine.
    Also I want to pass a input parameter as type="Printer" to my report which will print directly for me and same I can acheive in command prompt passing type="Printer" fileName="C:\Users\pujarswa\Desktop\TipsReportLoad.pdf"
