Printing in Illustrator

I've been trying to print my document I created in Illustrator however it keeps printing off center and no where near what it looked like in the program. I tried printing it as a pdf but that also came out not centered. I did at test page in Microsoft Office, which printed centered. Any idea what could be wrong or how I truly align to center in the Illustrator program?

Kimberly,
Have you examined (all) the printer options in the printer dialog, including the printer properties?

YOu have not provided any system info, version info or details about your printer. This is not going anywhere beyond stating the obvious - your system is not color managed.

  • Can't Print from Illustrator Anymore

just out of the blue, can't print from Illustrator CS3 or 4 to an epson 3800. Had the printer and computer for over a year, Vista 64, never had an issue, printed hundreds of pages with this printer and various Adobe products, then bam, out of the blue, this problem.
Uninstalled and reinstalled drivers, 4 times now!
I can print test page from the Windows dialog in add/remove printers.
From Illustrator I have tried different pdf and ai documents, same thing. Printing hangs, nothing comes out, and most frustrating, I can't delete the print job and have to reboot to print another page.
I can print from the following with no problems:
    Photoshop CS4
    Microsoft Word 2004
    Firefox
    Sketchup
    Vectorworks (CAD)
    ect.
    Just never in Illustrator

    try dumping your preferences
go to Users\[username]\AppData\Roaming\Adobe Illustrator CS4 settings, drag this file out to the desktop and then try printing, also make certain the file is on your local machine and not a server.

  • PRINTING? illustrator CS4 to HP Pro b9180

Does anyone have experience managing the color printing from illustrator CS4 to an HP Photosmart Pro 9180?
I am getting pretty innaccurate color. I usually do all my priinting thru photoshop but now need to do a lot of tiled printing so am working with AiCs4.
The problem I'm having is this - in Ai' s print dialog box there seems to be no way to turn the color management over to the printer - in print dialog the only choice is to let Ai manage the color... print > Color Mgmnt > "Let Illustrator determine color" and below that a printer profile is chosen. No choice who determines the color. Correct?
BUT then in the HP printer dialog box the choices under "color Matching" are not greyed out the way they are when printing in Photoshop and letting it handle the color.
This leads to "Color Matching" > "Vendor Matching" and further along under PaperType/Quality > Color Options > Adobe RGB (the space I work in). This is what HP tech recommended. I've tried all kinds of variations and combos of choices with absolutely bad results.
At this point I'm pretty flustered. Am I missing something? I'm used to getting near perfect results in printing so this is killin' me. This SHOULD be easy :-(
    thanks in advance...
    ps-I am on a MacBPro, OS 10.6.4... Ai 14.0.0

  • Can't open the Illustration. Can't print the illustration. Disk full error . . .

Since CS5, now CS5.1 I have had periods, sometimes multiple times a day, that I have this error, "Can't open Illustration. Can't print the illustration. Disk full error has occured while printing."
I don't understand if I am alone in the problem or what. But after 3 days of the problem starting up again, I am quickly going nuts - I was close to that point before these issues.
    Facts:
It happens without warning! These are native illustrator files that I created or have been given to me.
I am NOT printing when it happens.
I cannot open ANY illustrator file once the error occurs.
If I quit Illustrator and re-open, it still does NOT work.
I have to restart my entire computer, then it works fne - until it happens again, which is 5-6 times a day.
    I am running 10.6.8  on a 2.9 Core 2 Duo 24" iMac with 4GB ram.
Doe anyone have any idea what the problem is or how to fix it? Please!!!!!

Probably a font cache, corrupt font and now a preference corruption as well.
Bloated font cache an do this.
    So can a permission problem
So download ONYX it is free clear out your font cache, if you have cocktail that will do as well. As mfar as the corrut font Font Agent Pro would be useful for helping you locate the  corrupt font.
    As for the preferences
    1. Quit Illustrator.
2.Go to User/username/Library/Preferences/ Adobe illustrator CS# Settings and trash the settings folder, the whole folder not just the contents of the folder..
    3. Start Illustrator. Illustrator creates a new preferences file.
(someone here will advice you to rename the folder but that only applies to the Windows system just trash and empty the trash and a fresh one will be made)
Then use the disk Utility to repair the permissions.
You can do all of thesee and maybe avoid the corrupt font and see if that works but I suggest you do all three and then if it happens again trouble shoot your fonts.
If this does not help probably a conflict with a plug in or other third party software.

  • What's the correct way of preparing artwork for print in Illustrator?

I want to print an illustration on 8.5in. x 11in. paper. Whenever I print, the artwork always fills the whole page and all of the artwork doesn't show. So I created a new document and these are the settings. Are they correct? Thanks in advance.

Your new document setting are correct, CMYK & 8.5 x 11.
Unless you have borderless printer you cannot print to the edge of the paper. This keep from toner getting into the printer and one side is usually the shortest so the gripper can grab the paper. Usually this is only about 1/8" around and one side about 1/4".
If this does not help, can you please provide a measurement of how much is missing and describe where it si your are determining all of the artwork does ton show, is this in the print window or other.

  • Can't print from Illustrator or Acrobat

    Hi all,
I just upgraded my iMac to Mavericks, and am now having trouble printing from CS5. The message I get is "Can't print the illustration. The Color Management settings are inconsistent." I hadn't made any color management changes, so I assume this is related to the upgrade. I checked AI, PS, ID, and Acrobat, and all the settings are North American General Purpose 2. I opened Bridge, and it has the same color setting, and says that all CS apps are synchronized using the same color settings. How do I fix this so I can print?
    Thanks,
    Sue

Most of the time, I can't access the Printers & Scanners pane at all - I keep getting an error message (Could not load Printers & Scanners preference pane.). The few times that I did get in, the left pane that usually lists my printers is filled with bits and pieces of type and illustrations and symbols, so I can't select a printer. I tried printing to a different printer (Epson), and can do that without any issues (duh, don't know why I didn't try that last night). I can also print from Word to the printer that my CS5 apps won't print to (HP).
I spent some time this morning with AppleCare, and they want to walk me through reinstalling Mavericks. I have too much work to do at the moment to take the hour or so to reinstall, so I'll call them back this evening.
    This is fun. Not.

  • Can't print the Illustration

I am running Illustrator CS3 with the 13.02 update under Windows Vista Home Premium service pack 1.
Whatever I try to print, even just one square, will not print on my HP Color Laserjet 2700n or my Epson Stylus Pro 3800. I get a message saying "Can't print the illustration". Both printers will print from Photoshop CS3, Lightroom 2.1 (release candidate) and Acrobat reader 8.1.2. My laptop running the same version of Illustrator under Windows XP pro service pack 2. will print fine on the HP printer over my Wireless network.
I have read the Faqs , searched the forum and the Internet and spent many hour trying to solve this problem and I would be really grateful for and help you could give me. In addition I have reset the preference file and uninstalled and reinstalled Illustrator.
As far as Photoshop is concerned I am an advanced amateur but in Illustrator I am a novice.
The PC is a HP m9056uk with 3GB of ram and an Intel Core2 Quad Q6600 2.4GHz CPU. It has two 500GB SATA hard drives. All device drivers are, to the best of my knowledge, up to date.

    Hi,
I have many problems of printing with the re-installation of the Illustrator CS2 after format my computer, a portable HP pavilion. I try two printers : First, a Canon S600, ( old printer ) and my new one a HP all in one series, C3180.
For theses two printer, Illustrator don't want to print anything simple like a red rectangle. The message says: ''Can't print the illustration ''. Before formating, the old printer S600 work like a charm with this software. I don't understand. I look for new drivers on the S600. I find it and install it but the problems is still there...
Do anybody can help me ? I tried some solutions that I read on the net but nothing work today.
    Thanks
    Marc-André

  • How do I do borderless printing in illustrator CS6 version 8?

How do I do borderless printing in illustrator CS6 version 8? I'm sure its really simple but I cant seem to work it out

As Doug said, this entirely depends on your printer and its driver, not on any specific setting in AI. Naturally it helps to work to spec and use a suitable artboard size, but beyond that you can't influence this much in AI.

  • Can't Print this illustration

Okay, first time in donkey's years I've had this 'Can't Print the illustration' window - brand new CS5 suite, brand new computer - 4 days old (Dell, 36bit - would prefer a Mac but there you go).
History - large format packaging file - 600mm x 1200mm. Line drawings. Black and one spot (Pantone) color only. Job needed original English version converted to Chinese language. This had to be done on an older 'chinese' PC in Illustrator 4 with correct Chinese fonts. But after the translator did her job, I needed to return it to CS5 on the Dell to make alterations. Chinese fonts converted to outlines for transfer. Once alterations done, tried to print and got the silly can't print message.
prints fine from Dell in PDF format.
prints fine from Dell in jpeg format.
prints fine form old 'chinese' PC in Illustrator 4 format with either outlined fonts or fonts.
havent had any problems printing anything else in CS5, just this one job.
The only thing I can think of is that there was a problem when converting the Chinese font to outlines there were too many points created and either Illustrator or the printer cracked the irrites.
Any help on how I can work out how to fix this.
...although I have been using Macs/PC's and all Adobe programs for over 25 years I HATE trying to figure out this stuff and prefer to just be an end user without trying to figure out why a perfectly reasonable request goes odd.
    thanks in advance.

    function(){return A.apply(null,[this].concat($A(arguments)))}
    Could you share
Sadly, no. Files are copyright design sensitive - but thank you. I wonder if it is because they were originally CS4 files? hmmm. Not really sure. What I will have to do is recreate the same artwork or similar from start with the same brushes and fonts and see if that still causes a problem. I have yet to narrow down if the problem is coming from CS5 or from my printer and/or printer driver. I was assured it was all updated and compatible... but there you go.
If I can reproduce the problem with a 'generic' type art I will post it here for advice - you have all be very helpful already.
these things always happen when up upgrade everything all at once It is only Day 4 and overall I am happy with new CS5. just the printing issue is a pain.

  • Can't print. Illustrator CS5 (ME) Win 7 64-bit

    Hi,
I can't print from Illustrator. I create a new document, add some rectangles, go to file>print... or press ctrl-p, and nothing happens. No dialog boxes, nothing. The command is completely ignored.
Using Illustrator CS 5.0.1 Middle Eastern Version on a Windows 7 64-bit Ultimate machine.
If anyone can help me, it would be much appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Ariel

Yup, it looks like the printer was the problem. Switched the default
from a LaserJet 1018 to a PDF printer and everything's working great.
The LaserJet actually works fine -- for everything except Illustrator.
    Strange.
    Thanks for your help!

  • No black print on Illustrator CS2

Using Mac OS 10.6.2, Snow Leopard, Illustrator CS2 won't print black using either CMYK or RBG.  The color is gray/blue.  No problem when printing same on Photoshop CS2.

    Thank you for your reply.
My printer is a Canon Pixma 610  which printed black Illustrator documents fine before I upgraded my Mac OS from  Leopard to Snow Leopard.
I printed a selection using CMYK from Menu>File>Document Color Mode and the  printing was gray with a touch of blue.
I printed a selection using RGB from Menu>File>Document Color Mode and the  printing was gray with a touch of blue.
In "preferences for Appearance of Black" I used the default, "Display All Blacks as Rich Black", then after hearing from you, I tried switching to "Display All Blacks Accurately" with the same blue/grey print-out.
    Any more suggestions?
    Thank you,
    Ronnie Rudolph

Any help at all would be great.

I have same problem. if you got solution, please share with me.

  • Problems printing from illustrator to Canon printer

I have problems with printing from Illustrator CS4 to a Canon printer i-Sensys MF8050 (printing
from Illustrator to a Epson stylus Photo R2400 is no problem).
Printing from Photoshop to the Canon printer is also no problem. I
refreshed the preferences (did not help).
Operating System: Mac OS X (v10.6)
    Printer driver version: 3.3
    Usb connection
Canon believes it must be a problem with the illustrator program; it sends the wrong signs to
    the printer.
After sending print to printer the printer reports that the A4 tray is empty, but is is still full.
What is going wrong, who can help me out?

    Thanx Mike,
Reinstalled the printer softwear but it didn't resolve the problem.
But your suggestion to print illustrator pdf file in Acrobat is good solution for the moment.
I think something is wrong with Illustrator, because starting up the printing module is also taking a long time.
Did download the latest up date from illustrator to day, but that also didn't resolve the problem.
And you are right.... 3.3 is the fax driver

  • Printer dialogue box hangs when printing from Illustrator cs3

OK... I'm not sure if this is Illustrator related or mac related, but it only happens from Illustrator. In our office we have an iMac (white, flat) running Tiger (OSX 10.4.11). Whenever we try to print from Illustrator CS3 the preint goes through to the printer immediately and prints, but the actual Illustrator spooling bar/printer dialogue box remains. The only way is to wait for about half an hour for the bar to finish or force quit the application and restart (even though it does not show as "not responding" in the Force Quit window.
Now I've tried reinstalling Illustrator. I've run disk warrior. Tried the fsck command on startup. our technical outsources tell us it might be a memory problem, but I'm not tsure as this only happens in Illustrator and no other programs.... any ideas?

I can vouch for the dock hiding solution solving the problem. It worked on three Intel Macs we were having problems with. Here are some links to articles about it:

  • Printing from Illustrator does not match Photoshop

I have CS3. The colorsuite is matched across all platforms so colour profiles are all the same.
I print pure cmyk colours in a document, so one square is cyan, another magenta and so on.
When I print from photoshop, it prints the colours correct. Each colour is printed from each printers colour cartridge directly. But when I print from Illustrator, its not printing purely. The colours are darker and have mixed colours under a magnifier.
Ive tested on different printers and with colour management off on their drivers so should use adobes.
Any ideas why Illustrator is coming out muddier? Many thanks in advance.

Yes the mode is definately CMYK in photoshop. See the images attached of scanned closeup of the print out of yellow.
Yellow below is how it looks when printing from Illustrator and Acrobat. You can see its added dots to it.
Yellow below is from Photoshop. You can see its pure yellow which is what I want.
Edit: Just tried Overprint: Simulate in Acrobat. No change.
Edit2: "I would like to know what's the definition of "correct"?" For a start Magenta looks like a dark red. Cyan is blue but a dark shade of it.
