Printing in ink backup mode on 7960

Despite replacing all 3 ink cartridges with 3 brand new ones (which was costly), my 7960 printer continues to display the message "Printing in ink backup printing mode." I made sure to remove the protective tape and seated them solidly when I installed them. I continuedto get the message, so I reset the new cartridges and made sure that they are installed correctly. All of the cartridges are HP (not refills or off brands). Why is this happening? Also, how can I determine which cartridge is causing the problem? Thanks for any tips.

Hello dsearer, and welcome to the HP Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience!
I understand that you are having cartridge issues.  I would like to assist you with that.
I would suggest performing a power reset on your printer.  Disconnect the power cord from the printer and the power outlet, then wait 60 seconds. After 60 seconds, plug the printer back in. Ensure you plug the printer directly to a wall outlet. Make sure to bypass any sort of surge protector or power bar.
I would also recommend following through the steps in this document on a 'Printing In Ink-Backup Mode' Error Message Displays on the Computer.
Good luck and please let me know the results of your troubleshooting steps. Thank you for posting on the HP Forums!

  • Deskjet 3930 will not do ink-backup mode in windows 7 64bit

I only have the color ink installed and after going to windows 7 and having only the windows drivers to work with, the printer will not print "black" any more.. worked well in XP.  so It must be a driver issue... is there a way to force the printer to ink-backup mode? I dont want to buy black ink and have the color ink dry up, or spend more on 2 inks when 1 should work.
    Thanks

    Hello Wild_Duck
That's funny, indeed! But I have heard about some lucky guys running AA3 with
    Win7 flawlessly ;-)
Anyway, I saw some people "jumping around" in the forum like wild when trying to
run AA3 with Vista or Win7 and so I hope for those my solution will finally help them, too.
As a serious radio amateur I was running a lot of spectrum and weak signal software
like WinRad, SpectrumLab or WSJT on my Win7 system since half a year with not
an only problem so far (and some programs have not been certified for Win7 at the
    beginning)
The "What you hear" function (now called "Stereo Mix") is working fine as well here
in Audition, but why it's exactly this Windows98/ME compatibility combination which
is solving my problem now...I don't know...perhaps only god knows... ;-)))

  • Printer won't print black ink.

    Hi all,
I am recently experiencing printer problems with my HP deskjet F4180. After seeing an error message to refill ink, I went and bought new black HP 21 ink. When I printed a few pages the black ink only came out blue but my computer says both cartridges are full. I printed out the diagnostic test and the red did not appear and the yellow was poor. I am wondering if I have to buy a new color cartridge or I can print in black and white only?
    Thank you!

The user manual here indicates on page 66 the printer can operate in ink backup mode by removing the color cartridge.

  • Printing Issues in wireless mode

I recently purchased an HP2025dn printer and installed on my home network. I have a G5 Mac Pro hardwired on the net, and the printer works fine. I have an Airport Extreme with two laptops connected wirelessly. I cannot print from either one; one is an early model Core 2 Duo running Snow Leopard, while the other is a G4 Mac Pro running Leopard. When I hardwire either laptop to the net, they print fine.
I also have a problem with the Core 2 Mac Pro running Windows XP. Same conditions as the Mac software; no wireless printing, but prints fine wired to the net.
    Any help would be appreciated!

Configuration of the net is as follows: Comcast Cable Modem, Mac Pro G5, Apple Extreme, and HP printer are on a wired net. The two laptops, one a Core 2 Duo Mac Pro, the other a G4 Mac Pro, are connected wirelessly. I also have an Ink Jet printer connected to the AE via USB.
It sounds like your Comcast Cable Modem is actually a modem/router. Is there any way to turn off the router functionality of that device? If that's possible, you could configure things so that your AirPort Extreme is the only thing supplying router functions.
Have you been able to investigate the IP addresses of your computers and networked printer in the two modes, wired and wireless?
As I stated, when I connect either of the Laptops to the wired net
I suppose you mean the wired net as supplied by your Comcast device.
When I switch to wireless, none of the laptops (3, counting Windows mode) can find the printers.
I've been doing some research on this site, and saw basically the same point that you raised; the AE may set up a subnet that can't see the printers.
If you have the AirPort Extreme configured to "Share a public IP address", that's the result I'd expect.
I configured the AE as a Bridge; same results, along with the fact that I cannot see the internet through either FIreFox or Safari.
If your Comcast unit and AirPort Extreme cooperate at all, a setting of the AE of bridge mode should work. In that mode, in the Network panel of System Preferences, select the AirPort connection item and click on the "Advances" button, then on the "TCP/IP" tab. Do you see reasonable values for "IPv4 Address" and Router", meaning ones compatible with the network being created by the Comcast unit?

  • Photosmart 8250 constant maintenance cycles while printing & excessive ink usage

I'm having a problem with my trusty 4-year-old HP Photosmart 8250: Whenever I print a document, whether in color or black ink only mode, it constantly enters maintenance cycles and excessively uses ink.
Two examples: When I printed a color document (color, HP Bright White Inkjet Paper, 17 pages), the printer behaved erratically, with constant maintenance cycles. It also said I had to change yellow ink, but when I re-turned on the printer to install a fresh yellow ink cartridge (I only use original HP ink), it still showed remaining yellow ink. Then yesterday, when I printed a 32 page graphics document (black ink only, plain paper, normal), the ink meter for black dropped from full to 25% full (I had changed the black cartridge only one week earlier), and the printer went through four maintenance cycles. Neither had happened before in my four years of owning this printer, and the black ink consumption for similar documents in the past was barely a quarter of what it was for this document.
Are these issues most likely related to the printhead? I know that the Photosmart 8250, like all printers with HP 02 cartridges, uses a fixed non-replaceable printhead, so does the printhead need cleaning or alignment? Or should I just get a new HP printer, as I have used this printer extremely frequently over the past 4 years?
    Thanks for all your help!

    Hi johnpd,
There have been some significant upgrades to photo printing and the inks since the MP610 was introduced.  With the MG7120, and the XL ink tanks (which are comparably priced to the standard ink tanks used in the MP610), you should receive similar or greater page yields.  One major reason for this boost is the addition of the gray CLI-251 ink.  When gray appears in your printout, instead of using a mixture of all the other colors, the gray ink is used, reducing your overall ink consumption.
At the risk of sounding like a typical salesman, "I want to get you in the model that is right for you"!  If you are looking for a photo printer, the MG7120 is one of my top suggestions for a quality Photo All-in-One.  If however, you do not plan to make heavy use of the printer and only occasionally print photos, you might get more value from an Office All-in-One.

  • HP Photosmart 6510 e-All-in-One Printer Does Not Print Black Ink

I have run all the troubleshooting listed from HP and the "check" warrenty doesn't come up blank.  I would like to not have to purchase a new printer to fix this any help would be greatly appreciated:
    1) Rebooted Printer
    2) Installed new printer cartridge (2nd one) - really not happy about this as that represents almost $50 in HP ink
    3) Checked venting - Not the problem
    4) From Tools ran head cleaner - still only prints colors (or grey)
I've liked HP printers for a long time, but after reading the forums I'm really seeing an issue with the model I puchased.  I don't mind purchasing HP ink and my printer isn't a high volume use printer so I expect it to last beyond 1 year 1 day.
I have the SN and product number available if a tech needs.

  • My Andoid Devices wil not wake up my printer from Power Save Mode

I have an HP LaserJet Pro 200 color MFP M276nw istalled as a wireless network printer. I have various computers with XP and Windows 8 operating systems that wake up  the printer from Power Save mode without problems. I also can print wirelessly from my Windows 8 phone. The problem arises when I try to print from my Android devices. I have installed the HP All-In-One Remote App from the Android Store and they seem to have installed correctly. They recognise the network printer, tell me that it is Power Save mode but are unable to wake it up. Can anyone help with this one please?

Hello Jerends and thank you for your attention to my printer problem. My printer already has a fixed IP address so no need to go down that road. I managed to get around the problem by deleting the HP All in One App from my Android devices and replacing it with the HPePrint App. It's not perfect but does the job.
    Thanks again.

  • Not printing black ink

My 6515 photosmart all in one printer is not printing in black ink.  I have installed a brand new cartridge, gone through all the troubleshooting suggestions several times, run a clean printhead check 5 times -- waiting 30 minutes between the 3rd and 4th one.  I am so incredibly frustrated.  My printer is two years old and is out of warranty.  I would like to speak with a customer support person, and I want a replacement for this printer if there is no other troubleshooting possibilities that will work.   This is unacceptable product quality, and from the looks of the 9,000 other boards under the subject "not printing black ink" I am not alone.  I want to know what HP will do for me to resolve this situation.  Thanks in advance for your help.

I'm having a problem printing on my HP Photosmart C7280 All-In-One. The following message is what came up on the printer screen: Ink System Failure has failed unable to copy, receive faxes or print. Refer to printer documentation Error O.cl9a0007.

Hey Spider! First off welcome to the forum.
I would recommend removing all the ink cartridges, unplugging the USB cable from the computer that connects to the printer, and then shutting the printer off completely by removing the power cord. Then restart your computer. Turn the printer back on but leave it disconnected from the computer. After it has finished its power on cycle go ahead and insert the ink cartridges back into the printer and be sure to seat them properly.
After you have all the cartridges back in the printer properly then connect it to the computer. See if this resolves the issue. If not post back with any findings.
    Thanks,

  • Wrong colors when printing PDF in Draft Mode Printing (Win)

I am using Acrobat to print my contact sheets from the Print module (Windows). If I use the "Draft Mode Printing" in LR, colors in the resulting PDF are way off. Any idea what the settings in Acrobat should be, to obtain correct colors? I have tried many combinations in the "Adobe PDF Conversion Settings", especially in the "Color" tab, but with no success.
Note that colors in the resulting PDF are correct instead when I disable the "Draft Mode Printing" from LR.

No I did not build 1:1 previews first. The point of using the draft print is to me to do quick, so would rather not build any 1:1 preview. Anyway, I don't believe I got what you wrote: if I do not build the 1:1 preview, what is the color space of the print output in Draft Mode?

  • [HP Color LaserJet CP1518ni] Stopped printing black ink documents when Magenta toner finished

    Hi there,
    I have a HP Color LaserJet CP1518ni.
I just printed about 200 pages of black ink documentation.  The black ink cartridge is still about 38% full.
Although none of these printouts involved colour, the printer started flashing the message: "Replace magenta cartridge".
Since then, it would no longer print.  Again, I am only attempting to print black ink docs, and I even tried turning off the colour print option to no avail.
The printer queue on my macbook shows the doc as 'printing' and 'sending', and then it disappears, with nothing happening on the printer itself.
If I push the 'X' button on the printer, it says 'cancelling print' or something like that.
Is there any way around the problem of the printer not printing anything once one of its cartridges runs to empty, even though the printjob does not need that colour cartridge?
    Thank you!
    Steve

How can I find the Toolbox FX on Windows 7 Professional? I can only find information about Windows XP and Windows Vista. When I  go to my Start button, and go to All Programs , there is no HP option or folder;therefore,I can't find the Toolbox FX.
My printer ran out of magenta toner, but all I want to do is print in black ink (which I have plenty of).
    Can anyone please help me?

  • HP Officejet Pro 8600 "Problem with Printer or Ink System'

A gander at this forum suggests I am one ofa multitude of people perplexed by this issue. There is a notation beside one enquiry which says 'Problem Solved'.... well it isn't for me. My printer (typical!) is one month out of warranty. I had to replace the black cartridge and, when I did, it came up with this error prompt. I then replaced all the other cartridges. HP suggests removing the printhead and following that they say place it 'upside down on a clean sheet of paper'... NO instructions for cleaning it!! When it is replaced in the printer they suggest you 'rock the printhead left and right to make sure that the printhead fully seats in the carriage' and if THIS doesn't fix things 'try reseating the printhead up to 3 times'... This in itself is an admission of an 'issue' with this product. It doesn't sound like a very scientific engineering 'fix' to me!
A new printhead costs almost what we paid for the printer a year ago. I hate consigning anything to landfill that I can avoid... unfortunately it looks like that is where this unit belongs...
