Printing in iPhoto and Preview

I am using an iMac G5 1.85 Mhz with OS 10.8 and cannot print from iPhoto or Preview. I have no trouble printing in any other program. I use an Epson Styllus C88+ printer. When I try to print from either program the printer stops and the Epson set up says Printing stopped. I try to restart and it at least recognizes the printer because it (the printer) "clicks" then it says Printing stopped. I've repaired permissions and even downloaded and run Printer Set Up Repair from fixamac.net. Printer Set Up Repair states that one file is missing but cannot repair this. It also states that this will be added upon normal printing. What do you suggest?

Epson solved this problem for me: Device removal (/applications/utilities/printer set up utility: highlight epson printers and delete. Deleted Epson folder (applications/library/printers/epson), deleted epson receipts (applications/library/receipts/epson). Remove all printers (applications/Utilities/Printer Setup Utility:Reset Printing). Download current epson driver (support.epson.com) and install. Go to Printer Set Up Utility (/applications/utility/printer set up utility) and add Epson printer.

  • Both iPhoto and Preview left 1 cm out my 4x6 inch (10x15 cm) at the bottom

    Hi,
I test twice (printing) and both iPhoto and Preview left 1 cm out my 4x6 inch (10x15 cm) at the bottom of the photo paper. I'm using 10.5.6 and a HP Deskjet F380. Any suggestions?
    Thanks!

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. First try the basic fix:  close iPhoto, delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your User/Library/Preferences folder, launch iPhoto and see if that helps.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There's now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • NEF files stopped being displayed on iPhoto and Preview

    Hi everybody,
all of a sudden my iPhoto and Preview show Nikon NEF files with weird colors. My OSX is 10.8.4 + Camera Raw 8.1. I have updated my NEF codec and tried to reinstall iPhoto from scratch but I got nowhere. Anyone with the same trouble?
here's an example of what I get:
    Thanks

RAW 4.08 is the newest RAW converter within OS X and is used by iphoto , Aperture and other applications. there are issues with Nikon cameras. You have to delet tho files and go back and install 4.07 as outlined here
    Solution
Delete or restore from Time Machine
    /System/Library/CoreServices/RawCamera.bundle
    /System/Library/CoreServices/RawCameraSupport.bundle
    Download

    Reinstall 4.07. Finished.

  • I cannot print from iphoto and I desperately need to!

I have an Epson Stylus Photo 1400, connected directly to my macbook with a USB. Up until yesterday it worked perfectly fine.
Yesterday when I tried to print in iphoto, the printer status said "stopped". Even after I clicked "resume" it would still say "stopped.
I spent 2 hours on the phone with Epson support. I uninstalled my printer, reinstalled it, deleted the drivers, reinstalled the drivers, ran some kind of error check on my harddrive, just about everything imaginable. Then he spoke with a supervisor who said that they've heard of this problem before, and it is an iphoto issue, not an Epson issue.
He said that it could be avoided by clicking "customize" on the first print screen, and going through that step before printing. I tried that while I was on the phone with him and it worked.
Well, today I opened iphoto to print- followed his instructions- and I'm having the same problem. I am an artist and I sell art prints that I print on this printer-- I've already sold some that I need to print, but I can't! I don't have an alternate printer to use, since this is for wide-scale prints. I really need to print, and I have no clue what to do!!
It's been over 90 days since I purchased my macbook (I purchased in April) so I can't call tech support without purchasing some kind of extra support package? Help!!!!!!

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. First, try the universal iApp fix: delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your User/Library/Preferences folder. Launch iPhoto and try again.
A modification on Dayla's workaround would be to do a print to PDF. That would set the page and image size you selected in iPhoto. Then Preview can print to the paper size you want and it should be almost as printing directly from iPhoto.
Do you have Photoshop? If so I suggest you print from it as you will have much more control over the color management that with iPhoto.
You can set up PS to be the editor of choice in iPhoto as follows:
Using Photoshop (or Photoshop Elements) as Your Editor of Choice in iPhoto.
1 - select Photoshop as your editor of choice in iPhoto's General Preference Section's under the "Edit photo:" menu.
2 - double click on the thumbnail in iPhoto to open it in Photoshop. When you're finished editing click on the Save button. If you immediately get the JPEG Options window make your selection (Baseline standard seems to be the most compatible jpeg format) and click on the OK button. Your done.
3 - however, if you get the navigation window that indicates that PS wants to save it as a PS formatted file. You'll need to either select JPEG from the menu and save (top image) or click on the desktop in the Navigation window (bottom image) and save it to the desktop for importing as a new photo.
This method will let iPhoto know that the photo has been editied and will update the thumbnail file to reflect the edit..
NOTE: With Photoshop Elements 6 the Saving File preferences should be configured: "On First Save: Save Over Current File". Also I suggest the Maximize PSD File Compatabilty be set to Always.
If you want to use both iPhoto's editing mode and PS without having to go back and forth to the Preference pane, once you've selected PS as your editor of choice, reset the Preferences back to "Open in main window". That will let you either edit in iPhoto (double click on the thumbnail) or in PS (Control-click on the thumbnail and seledt "Edit in external editor" in the Contextual menu). This way you get the best of both worlds

  • Error opening New Nikon D300 RAW files on Iphoto and Preview

    hi,
I've a new Nikon D300 and I've had problems when i try to import the RAW (.NEF) photos to my iphoto... it says that the file is unreadable either on Iphoto or Preview or even on Apple Aperture. How can i solve this problem? is there any update that i can do for that or Apple didn't upgrade the iPhoto yet? I l know the camera can take 14-bit Raw format photos but i'm not sure if it is taking them in 12-bit because it can take both. I have a Nikon D200 too and i've never had any problem uploading my Raw photos to iphoto. the only program that opens the photos yet is Photoshop CS3.
    hope, someone can help me.
    Many Thanks:
    Gonçalo Rendeiro

hope this 10.5.2 solved the problem

  • Problem to print with iPhoto and epson stylus photo RX620

I asked a question about the print with Iphoto. Larry gave some explainations but it still doesn't work. I can change the reglages with Safari, with Mail but not with Iphoto. So when I try to print photos, the reglage is standard and the result is bad. I would like to change the reglage, if i use glassy photo paper. With my PC, I have no problem to print with window or picassa. Thanks for your answer.

First I have no idea in the world what "reglage" is
But what ever printer specific options are available are supplied by the manafacturer's print driver and these are available on the last print window

  • IPhone freezes iPhoto and Preview when trying to upload photos.

Hi everyone, I have been trying to upload my photos to my computer (iMac) for months so I can get them off my phone as I'm out of room. When I try to use either iphoto or preview, mostly I get it the spinning wheel. It stays like that for hours. On the rare occasion through preview, the photos have uploaded and I can save them one by one to a folder, but if I attempt to import all, it just freezes. I've tried restarting the computer and I have got everything stored on an external hard drive so the computers memory is just about the same free space wise as it came from the shop.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

  • Error message, both in iPhoto and Preview:  No pages from the document were selected to be printed.

When I try to print a photo I get the above message stating that no pages have been selected. I tried deleting the iPhoto prefs plist, as I had read in earlier discussions, but that has not helped. I tried opening in Preview, but get the same message.
I have a new printer, HP 7520 series, and have been printing to regular paper just fine. It is only in attempting to print from the photo tray that I have run into this problem. I used page setup first to select the photo paper size and layout, then selected print from the menu.
    Any ideas?

Thank you for posting the fix.  I have not seen that problem before.

  • Unable to print from iPhoto without preview.

Hi everyone, new to this, so please bear with me. Old Toad can you help me please, I love my Mac OS X, and am reasonably savvy, but suddenly iPhoto will not print from the File Menu without going in to Preview? In Preview, you have to click again on File and Print, and not print from the button on the bottom of the Preview Screen. I have had my Mac for one year, and learning all the time, but she has not always done this, please tell me what to do in laypersons language, many thanks for any help.
    Jane S.

    Jane:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Just select the thumbnail and type Command-P. That will open the print window and you can go from there. OR, double click on a thumbnail to bring up the Edit mode and then use the File->Print menu. Apple moved the Print option to the Edit mode. That has confused a lot of us at first.

  • IPhoto (and preview) not recognising Canon 350D raw files

    Hi,
I'm using a Canon 350D (UK version of Digital Rebel XT) and OS X (specifically preview and iPhoto) won't recognise the .cr2 raw images it produces.
The images have finder thumbnails but if I try to open them I get:
The document "xxx.cr2" could not be opened.
Couldn't open the file. It may be corrupt or a file format that Preview doesn't recognize.
In iPhoto I get an 'Unreadable files' alert telling me it can't read them and then lists the files.
I know that it should work fine and am stuck in terms of what I'm doing wrong.
This problem has existed since I was on 10.4.7 when I bought the computer and camera - I'm now on 10.4.9. I did download the Aperture trial to see if that helped and had the same problems. Reinstalling OS X made no difference.
    Any ideas?

  • Problem with using iPhoto and Preview

I needed to resize a picture in iphoto. I opened it in Preview and resized it. At the top of the Preview window, where the file name is, I wanted to rename it so it would be easier to find. It let me do that. I closed the picture. When I went to open it in iphoto, the thumbnail is there, but when I double click on the thumbnail, the exclamation mark appears. I cannot open it in Preview either. It says the size is 0. It also still shows the original filename. I can't find the picture in Finder, using either the original or new name. From what I've found online, it seems I've changed the pathway. I can't find anything to rename/change it back. Help!!!! (I repeated the process with a picture I didn't care about. Somehow I changed the name back and am able to open it again in iphoto. I can't for the life of me remember what I did!!!! Both pictures, with the original filename and the new one are in Preview, but I can't open the one with the new name.)
(If renaming the picture means you can't access it anymore, why is that a feature?)

Are you using the same User Account as before?

  • Problems printing using iPhoto and Epson Stylus Photo R2400

I'm using OS 10.5.6 and iPhoto 8.0.2(402) to print pictures on my Epson Stylus Photo R2400.
I have other printers set up on this computer and they all print everything just fine regardless of the program I am using.
Using the Epson Stylus, I'm able to print from any other program than iPhoto.
When I try to print pictures from iPhoto, I get the error message...
can't open ` /private/var/spool/cups/tmp/4a18c65407c9b (the numbers at the end changes each time I try to print.
When I go in to check the folders out to see what might be causing the problem, the permissions on the folder cups and tmp have the following rights set up. system = Read & Write, _lp = No Access, everyone = No Access.
I've been able to set the everyone setting to equal Read & Write access, but I can't get the _lp access to change. When I reboot the computer, the everyone setting goes back to No Access.
Any ideas for how I can get this to work?
    Thanks,
    Bill

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. I don't have a tried and true fix for that but I would start with dumping the printer driver via the System/Print pane and then reinstall it. Go to the Epson site to download the latest driver for that particular model in case there's a newer one released.

  • Can't Print Book from iPhoto or Preview, but Can Print from Adobe Accrobat

I have spent 2.5 hours on the phone with HP, an am now unsure if the problem is with HP or Apple.
When I try to print a single page from an iPhoto Book (or a group of pages), I receive an error message on the HP 4650 printer (49.4C02). I saved the book as a PDF and tried to print from Preview with the same results. I then opened the PDF file in Adobe Acrobat and WAS able to print. I am able to print individual photos from iPhoto.
I searched this discussion board for problems printing to the HP 4650. One suggestion was to use the driver for the HP 4600. I tired that and it produced the same error on the printer.
Using Adobe Acrobat is a viable work-a-round, but I am curious why I cannot print a book from iPhoto. Any thoughts as to why Adobe Acrobat works and iPhoto and Preview do not?
    Thanks,
    -Dale

HP has _ a firmware release that addresses this error _ - have you installed it?

  • Still no themes and unable  to print on iPhoto

I currently cannot print with iPhoto and I am encountering a "no themes" error message. Previous threads have addressed this topic and have suggested re-installing iPhoto completely. I have now re-installed iPhoto twice but there is still no HD/Library/Iphoto folder and the themes are still missing. I have been doing my iPhoto installations with the iMac OS X install discs 1 and 2.
What am I doing wrong? I have already installed all the updates for iPhoto (it is now version 7.1.4)

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Before you reinstalled iPhoto did you delete the current application and all files with "iPhoto" in the file name that reside in the HD/Library/Receipts folder?
Also the themes folder will be located in the HD/Library/Application Support folder.

  • Printing with Aperture and HP B9100

I am new to Aperture. I just purchased the new 24" iMac and have installed Aperture and a new HP B9100 Pro Printer. I have been making test prints directly from Aperture with photos taken on a Nikon D80. None of the prints have come out anywhere near close to how good things look on my monitor. The prints are darker and lack the vividness and detail I see on my screen.
I got better prints from iPhoto and my Canon MP780.
Any suggestions? I apologize for being so green about this stuff.
    Thanks.

    24" iMac   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

I have the HP D7160 (uses six inks). I had the same problem, until I spent countless hours testing different parameters.
I had problems with Aperture printing too muddy/dark until I did the following:
    On an HP Photosmart D7160:
In Aperture, I have the "system management" as my Color Sync preference. Printer gamma set to 1.25 Black comp "on"
In my printer dialog, there is a dropdown menu when you select "print". Under the printer presets, I select "Paper type/quality". In this dropdown, there is a selection for Paper: Color:- I select "Color Sync" (not the printer selected "ColorSmart/RGB")
I also go to the "Color Options" tab and decrease my magenta output to -5.
I saved this as a "HP D7160" preset, so whenever I print, it automatically changes these for me.
Works like a charm now, after a lot of trial and error.
