Printing in lighroom
When trying to print from light room I get a message that an error has occurred while attempting to change modules ????
Which version? This sounds like a bug in a very old version of Lightroom. Also make sure you have selected a default printer in your OS before you go to the print panel.

Lighroom 4 Printing Problem, tonal shift
I have had a couple of printing related problems with Lightroom 4. The output on my Epson 4880 is significantly different from what Photoshop produces and what the actual file looks like. I have a long and detailed explanation of this problem at the following link with images that illustrate the nature of the problem. If necessary, I can post the whole thing here.

No Lightroom Templates in Print Module Template Browser
I recently installed Lightroom 1.1 on a Windows XP Prof PC. Print/Template Browser/Lightroom Templates is empty, although other templates (e.g. Web) do appear when the appropriate module is selected.
I looked for these templates on the Lighroom CD, but didn't find any.
The folder C:\me\Application Data\Adobe\Lightroom\Print Templates contains only another empty folder User Templates. Other folders do have templates, for example, Text Templates.
Do I have to do something special to install these, or if not, and they weren't installed as they should have been during installation, where can I find them?
Thanks,
MartinWhat photograph size on what paper size do you want to print?
You can select Contact Sheet / Grid as you layout engine and adjust the number of rows and columns.
If you want to print different photographs at arbitrary positions, you'll have to wait for LR3. -
Hello, and thanks in advance for any help you may be able to provide.
I am working with Mac OS V 10.8.3 and Lightroom V 4.4
I am unable to print. When I go to print an image (using any one of 4 printers) I get the Mac print dialog box and then as soon as I hit enter Lightroom crashes/closes.
All other applications print fine to the various printers.
I have tried reinstalling both Lightroom and all the printer drivers.
If I create a new mac user account and then try to print, it works fine.
I started with Lighroom I and have upgraded all the way to 4 and never had any trouble until 4. I have NEVER been able to print from Lightroom 4. My work-around has been printing through photoshop CS6 but that just too inconvenient at times.
I have worked with Victoria aka "Lightroom Queen" and we haven't been able to come to a solution.

I noticed that in the print dialog box, where you can select to print "all" the pages or a page range, the page range radial was highlighted and the defined page range was "7" to "7". I was only printing one image so I changed the print range to "1" to "1". And it did the trick. Crazy, eh?

Print to File: Removing white border
I have a lot of issues going on here. I'm sure that a lot of my problems are a result of my lack of understanding of file size and print resolution. I'm a newbie to printing with Lightroom, and, to be frank, a newbie to printing in general because I've never understood the terminology and technical aspects. (Reading articles about dpi, ppi, image size, and resolution is a VERY difficult undertaking. There is conflicting information, and it's hard to find someone who can explain it in easy to understand terms.)
I print at Costco, and I use their printer settings. As far as I can tell, the only way to embed the printer profile in an image is to print to file. What I would prefer is to save my image as a .jpg and upload it to Costco.
When I set up a photo for print to file, Lightroom places a white border around it because it's trying to arrange my photo on the printer paper. Even when I change the Print Job to print to .jpg, it does this. The only way to get around this is to check "custom file dimension" under print job, and then select a size. Then, under layout, I'm able to set the margins to zero and the cell sizes to the dimensions of the photo I'm going to print.
I notice that when I use a custom file dimenstion, the size of the image changes. If I choose 8 x 10, it chooses a file size about the same as the original image (8mb). If I'm printing a poster, 20 x 30, it creates a huge 27mb file. At first, I thought I could just use ratios, such as 2 x 3, but it seems like that would shrink the photo down to such a small extent that it would be pixelly.
And how is all this affected by resolution? If I choose 300 ppi how is that affected by whether an image is printed 5 x 7, 8 x 10, or 20 x 30.
Before using lighroom, I simply croppoed a photo, added the printer profile, saved it, and uploaded it. I do not understand why Lightroom is making me choose the paper size.[email protected] wrote:

How you are getting rid of the border is pretty much the way to do it -- you can save this layout as a preset for next time. However, as far as printing to JPEG for printing at a service, I just use the regular export dialogue. Unless you are printing 8x10s with some custom layout of multiple files (e.g., you could print a number of little wallet-size photos, and then cut them out yourself) and don't need the features the print module gives you, this is just easier. But exporting a JPEG from the regular export makes borderless print-ready images if you select the right options.
DPI/PPI can be a confusing subject, but there are tools on the internet that allow you to calculate the number of pixels you need to clearly print at certain sizes. Honestly, for most of us not doing fine prints (and given you are sending these to Costco, I'm assuming this is not the case) just do 240 or 300 for 4x6s and 5x7s, increase this to 600 for 8x10 and similar sizes, and go to 1200 or 2400 when you step up to the really large sizes. Remember, the larger the print, the further back you stand to get the whole thing, so at some point resolution becomes less important.
You can probably export at less than 100% quality and get very good results. There is an article out there that discusses JPEG quality and file size in Lr, which is different than Photoshop. The upshot is that you get very good results at around the 85-90% range. This, of course, depends on the information in the image. You also want to strip most of the metadata from the file. This can account for a large amount of room in the file.
Find out if your service expects sRGB or can accept AdobeRGB (surprisingly, a lot of photo kiosk prefer AdobeRGB) and then you can get your colours closer to what you expect.
Ideally, you want to export at the size you expect to print at. Lr will optimize the sharpening and so on based on the target file dimensions along with the resolution, and you will just get better, sharper results. You will want to crop to the right ratios, too, so that the target dimension makes sense. Lr will never try to distort your image to fit certain dimensions, so some creative sampling will occur, otherwise.
Lr is actually one of the easiest apps I've ever used for getting images print-ready. Between the sharpening, the white and black points (because blow-outs in print look terrible) and so on, it is easy to get pretty good results as amateur. You do have to decide the dimensions and resolution, though, in order for Lr to make the right choices when rendering the final JPEG. -
I have a problem with CS4 not finding my printer. The problem is when I
go to print or page setup, I get an error message that I must have a
printer attached before you can print.
Well CS3 can see the printer, lighroom can see the printer and so can
every other program. So I trash the pref's and it still doesn't work.
I trashed then 3 time so far and no go. I guess its magical thinking
that if it doesn't work keep trying it. Is there something I'm missing
or is a re-install the next step. I've had photoshop 6, CS, CS2, CS3,
and now CS4. I've spent more of my limited time fighting to get CS4 to
work and keep working than I've spent on all the other versions
together. It's very disappointing. So in the interest of full discloser
I have:
XP service pack 3
3.8ghz Pentium 4
4gigs memory
Epson R1900 printer
Getting real tired....
John PassaneauMore information!
I have found that it just the PSD's that I saved on this computer at one
time, about 15 pictures that cause CS4 to lose the printers. If I load a
JPG, or a TIF it works fine. If I load a PSD that I made before or
after the offending ones they work. If I load the offending PSD into CS3
it works fine in CS3. If I save the file as a PSD with a new file name
in CS3 then it works fine in CS4. I'm dumbfounded...... Anyone have a
clue what may have happened. I've opened, closed and saved these files
with CS4 many times and printed them many times before. This is new
behavior.
And no I have not added or changed any software of any kind other than a
print driver for the R1900. Any ideas?
One that comes to mind is to open them in CS3, save them and go on from
there in CS4.
John Passaneau
PS the prints from CS3 and CS4 look the same to me,color, brightness,
contrast and sharpness are the same. I would have be surprised if that
was not true. -
Is there any one that can help you on Adobe? I have been on hold twice for 30min and I need help. Contact line is for something else not to happy. >downloaded Yosemite and now my CS5 when I custom print it shuts down
CS5 was written LONG before Yosemite was available, and CS5 is no longer updated... have you told Apple that their new operating system breaks your old program?
Yosemite sometimes has problems, often related to "default" permissions needing to be changed

Printing in LR - poor color reproduction
Photos I print in LR's printing module with a Canon Pixma MP800R and using Canon PP-101 paper and Canon ink, turn out in a kind of brownish/faded color and are totally different from the photos on the screen. I use 'Managed by printer' and 'perceptual'
I noticed that the advise is that "When selecting 'managed by printer' remember to enable color management in the printer driver dialog box". Where do I find this dialog box?
Perhaps not knowing how to enable color management causes the bad color reproduction?
Thanks for advise! You need to choose a specific print profile (probably called something like "canon mp800r pr1" - this is what canon calls it's profile for your printer (canon mp800r) and that paper(pr is code for photo paper pro) at highest quality(1) (see the steves digicam link below for further info). This will have been loaded with the printer driver). Select it by picking "other" from the dropdown list of profiles in the print module in lightroom and you should be presented with a list with your profiles in(canon mp800r mp1, canon mp800r pr1 etc). If they are not there, your printer driver may not have been installed properly)
You must then disable the printer profile in the colour/intensity section of the printer settings dialog (press "print settings..." in lighroom then "properties" next to the drop down list with the name of your printer in it. Then select the "manual" radio button in the colour/intensity bit of this dialog and press the set button in the same section of this dialog).
I have found it helpful with some papers to set the print quality manually in the same dialog (select "custom" radio button and then press the "set" button in the same section of the dialog) to high(1) and the halftoning to diffusion.
If you have not already done it, make sure you choose the correct type of paper from the drop down list - for canon papers this will be obvious. For non-canon papers you will need to either look at the package for information or go to the manufacturers website - eg kodak ultima paper and ilford galarie classic pearl recommend the canon photopaper pro setting in my mp600 - this may vary with yours)
Once you have done all this, make sure to save a print preset with the name of the paper so you can easily go back to this combination of settings if you need to in the future. Do this by pressing the "add" button in lightroom when you are in the print module (bottom left of screen) - It is great, lightroom remembers all the settings that you have changed. If you decide these settings are not right for the paper then you can create a new preset or right click on the name of your preset and choose "update with current settings". To me, after using elements for a long time, these presets seem like a real step in a professional direction to help you ensure consistency of quality in printing.
Also, on some papers such as kodak ultima, you have to set the brightness to light in the colour/intensity section also (again this might be different for your printer so chack the paper manufacturers websites) - i figured this one out after spending half an hour digging around the kodak website to find the recommended printer settings. Some companies (eg ilford and kodak for their professional papers) have specific colour profiles for download to colourmatch your printer and paper.
NB - I can offer no guarantees, but this works for me with an MP600 and vista. I am not any sort of expert, just an enthusiastic amateur who spent a long time trying to resolve these issues using a combination of this forum and lots of web serching. I found this article on steves digicams site very helpful:
http://www.steves-digicams.com/techcorner/June_2005.html
Also lightroom 1.1 is known to have printing colour reproduction problems with vista if you use the "managed by printer" setting - it is in the readme and recommends that specific printer profiles are selected - as I suggest above. -
Any idea how to turn off the melodic sounds the pronter makes when it completes printing - I already know when it finishes - it's right beside me. Also how can I reduce the volume of the fax ringer.

32 Bit Windows 7 with 2Gb RAM?
I've been running 32 Bit Windows 7 Pro quite successfully on my 2009 MacBook under bootcamp for a little under a year. I didn't go 64 bit because of compatibility issues with software I use. I started having issues recently running low on memory, and
