PRINTING IN ORACLE
Hi,
My oracle lies on AIX platform. The printers are installed in the client machine which is a windows platform.
How do I print from oracle?
Thanks,
DBA
Talk to your sysadmin , if he/she can configure remote printer using IP address.

Is it possible to print a PDF Report (xml report) in Dot Matrix Printer in Oracle E-Biz R12 assuming the Dot Matrix Printer supports Post Script.
If so , what configuration needs to be performed from Oracle E-Biz?

Regards,
DBI do not think it is possible -- Please confirm with your printer vendor if your printer support PDF printing first.

PDF Printing without Oracle BI Publisher and OC4J
Hi All
I am using Apex 3.1.2 on Oracle 10g XE. I am trying to enable PDF printing. But I am struck with Oracle BI and OC4J. I have read it some where (in a blog and I don't remember its name) that you can enable PDF printing without Oracle BI and OC4J.
Please let me know what I should do to enable PDF this way. Any links, document pointers greatly acknolwledged.
Thanks in advance.
GuruHi guru,
This was the reply I had got for posting the same question some time back.
Pdf printing option without using BI Publisher can be done using PL/PDF (http://www.plpdf.com) which provides a programmatic way to generate PDF documents (it doesn't produce Word docs as far as I'm aware however). -
Adding a printer to Oracle Apps 10.7 NCA
I have a newbie question concerning adding a printer to Oracle
Applications.. I would like to know if there is any special setup required
to make a printer available within the Application, or is it just a matter
of adding the printer to the network?
Thanks in advance,
GM
nullHi,
You need to register the printer and the path in the description column (for reference)in the system Administration responsibility.
The navigation is
Install--> Printer->Register
Once the printer is registered choose the type and attach the style and the driver for that printer.
The print styles will give you the layout on the number of columns and rows to be printed.
The driver will have initialization string which have been defined as default ones but the same can be changed depending on the printer which you are operating (like HP etc.)
You can choose the one which have already been defined or create your own types.
These strings have a bearing on the way the outputs are printed.
Normally all printers whether they are stand alone or network printers are registered.
I hope I have made myself clear.
Thanks and Regards,

Printing a Oracle PDF Report from within a Oracle Form on Linux
Is there a command I can use in Oracle Forms to invoke a shell script to open a PDF output report stored on a physical location on the Linux server and print it to the printer?
What I'm currently trying to do is send a Report called within Oracle Forms 10g to "DESTYPE=FILE DESFORMAT=PDF DESNAME=directory/filename.pdf". I'm storing all the information about the file and printer information prior to it being run with the RUN_REPORT_OBJECT. What I want to happen is as soon as it finishes generating the file, I want (behind the scenes) is it to locate the file, open, and print it automatically, but never show the output to the user on the screen.
I know with the "DESTYPE=cache DESNAME=filename DESFORMAT=PDF" that it puts the info in the Reports Server / Cache directory, but also opens it in a separate browser window of which you can select the printer at that point. I don't want to do that in this option.
I previously tried to use the "DESTYPE=printer" option but, the issue with it has to deal with fonts. I do not want to store fonts on every printer, given the different types of printers our users have. I can print to the printer but the fonts are all messed up so, not an option.
So, basically I'm trying to replace that option with generating to a PDF, then I don't have to worry about fonts, since I have them all working, then I can just open the PDF file on the server and send to the printer. I was wondering if that is an option available in Oracle Forms when calling reports. I figured that when someone sends the option of "DESTYPE=printer" that it must be calling some shell script on Linux that handles this. I'm just not seeing it.
Any help is appreciated.
ChrisOk, one final question because I want to see how far this can go.
Can I issue this command via the HOST inside the form? Basically I'm telling it to open and send the file to the printer. The vFileName is the directory/filename stored on the Linux Server. I can execute this command on the command line of Linux and it works
HOST( 'lpr -P gt-ybs-ps /u11/app/as10g/tools/web/html/pc_rp00120100210035258.pdf');
I promise this is my last quesion.

Client printer on oracle application server
Hi all.
I configured my own system on oracle application server and I connected my printer on client machine.
When I wanted to print through the application server on the printer I did not print.
Please could anyone shows me where is the error file (for the printer) located in oracle application server to check the error.
byNo. Not only it isn't certified, but it is also impossible to run forms compiled with the 11g compiler with the 10g runtime. For 11g there is a install bundle for the developer suite / application server.

When send the report directly to the printer from Oracle IDS 9i
Hi.....
I m using Oracle IDS 9i, Oracle AS 9i and Database 9i for my new project. But i m facing a problem when i m trying to show a report from oracle IDS 9i.When i send the report directly to the printer without showing it,then the printer connected to the application server is working. But the printer connected to with PC(From where a send the command) is not working but printer connected with AS is working, but not that one which one i m wanting.....Why this problem is happening? Can anyone help me?
KSINote:It is always better to have network based printers rather then PC shared printers. What that means is your printer is not connected to a PC. It has a direct connection to the network via NIC. You would then setup the printer on your AS in the printers setup. If the AS is rebooted you do not need to authenticate the printer shares again with a network based printer.
If I understand you correctly, you have a printer connected to your AS(application server) and a printer connected to your PC. You can submit a report direct to the printer connected to the AS but cannot send a report direct to your printer connected to your PC.
From the symptoms you described, the problem is usually associated with the AS not being able to see the printer shared on your PC. You either have the address to your printer address defined wrong or your AS is trying to direct a job to your printer but doesn't have rights to do it.
First, Try to print a notepad job to your printer attached to your PC from the AS. This will tell you if you have access to do so or not.
- If it can't, you need to figure out why? This has nothing to do with oracle.
Second, thing to check is your Oracle "Report Queue Manager" on the AS. Make sure that you can submit a report manually from the Report Queue Manager. If it fails the "Report Queue Manager" will give you useful errors as to why it failed. This will help you isolate the problem.
Third, Once you can submit a job from the reports queue manager manually to your shared printer you should be able to submit from your application direct. If it still does not work your address to the printer is incorrect. Try submitting manually through the reports queue manager again. When selecting printer you will be given a list of accessible printers from the AS. Select the one connected to your PC. Once selected the full network address will appear. Copy and use this as the printer location in your job submission through your application.
That's it... Where using this right now and it works great. Hope this helps.

So, I've found on the boards here that QT no longer supports exporting to MPEG 2 (which blows my mind seeing that I wasted money for both this AND Compressor, and that's the DVD standard codec right now). BUT, I have the codec for MPEG 2 in my QT Lib
