Printing in the right colours?

Hi.
I have an logo which is 2 shades of purple and a black outline.
I have had it printed a few times now with great disappointment. Sometimes the purples come out in a greyish faded purple red, other times quite pink.
What do i need to do in order to make sure the right purples are printed in every company?
Please bear in mind that im completely new to this. Im only designing as i can find or afford any decent designers.
Thanks, Benji

Benji,
I think i get the concept of spot colours but going about doing something about it.... i woudnt have a clue where to start...
Is it a computer program, a shade of ink, a colour code???
In edit> colour settings... there is an RGB drop down menu with loads of different settings and the same for CMYK...
What is RGB vs CMYK all about and why is there no selection for viewing in either?
RGB (Red/Green/Blue) is the kind of colours made of light you see on the screen; that is especially used for web.
CMYK (Cyan/Magenta/Yellow/Black) is the colours made as blend of the four inks, also called process colours; used for print.
RGB span a wider range of colours, called Gamut, and especially many bright colours cannot be reproduced with CMYK so you may lose the brightness of the colour by goind from RGB to CMYK.
Spot colours are special inks that may be used along with or instead of CMYK; they may be much brighter.
You may specify spot colours in your document. You should not expect to see them represented truly on screen so you have to know them from a swatch book or similar.
When you choose Document Color Mode, you choose which kind of colours you are using, and those will be represented; if you use the other kind, or if you switch mode, the colours will change, sometimes profoundly.
The colour settings are tools to get/keep the right/consistent colours all the way from the creation of artwork to the final use in print or on screen or whatever.
Again, apologies for being completely new to this but i appreciate your patience and advice.
Thanks

  • How to improve or get the right colours for my printer

Hey guys, I have just used an EyeOne to configurate the right colours of my screen. Just that when I use Photoshop or I watch at the pictures, I want to see them as they really are. I've done it, but now I have the second problem. It works for sending pictures, for sending them to print... But my printer(an Epson) prints them too dark and too redish.... But my screen is just perfect.
Do you know how can I manage to configurate the way to change the colours of my printer with some app or some configurator??
Thank you very much for your answers.

Your EyeOne has calibrated the display, but you will also need print profiles.
First, without a printer profile, you will get the most accurate print by using the printer manufacturers, in you case Epson, inks and papers.
You can use alternative, but quality inks, and alternative quality papers. Wether using these or Epsons, you will need a print profile.
The print profile will usually make a much larger difference than just calibrating your display. You will need a different profile for each paper and ink combination you use. Some paper manufacturers supply downloadable profiles, but these will only be accurate if all of the Epson printers of your model have identical characteristics, this is rare, hence the need for custom profiles. Some paper manufacturers will supply you with a custom profile free, or you simply download the target image, print following their instructions precisley and post the printed target to them for a custom profile. They then email the profile back to you. There are also commercial companies that do this to. Another option is to purchase a calibrator that profiles your display and printer, but that tends to be expensive. Look here at various options here from just one of many suppliers http://spyder.datacolor.com/products.php.
Look here for options available from a typical paper supplier in the UK. http://www.permajet.com/30/ICC_Profiles.html. Then read these sections relating to the previous link.

That should give you and idea of what needs undertaking for print colour accuracy.

  • How can I print in the right hand corner of the paper (no borders)?

How can I print in the right hand corner of the paper (no borders). I have Adobe 7.

Is that elements 7 or photoshop 7? It can make a difference.
What you can do is create a new document that is the size of the paper, then place your document in the new document. You can now align your document to the right side of the page.
    Now print.
Borders can have two meanings here. You can add a border to an image such as a stroke for example. The other meaning is the printer has a non-printing area called a border.
In the former there is nothing to do as long as you did not add one. In the latter some printers do have a print to edge option, but it has to be a feature of that printer. It would be located in the print options. If the printer does not have such a feature, there is nothing you can do, short of manually cutting the paper with a paper cutter, scissors, or x-acto knife.

  • Can't figure out how to print on the right side of a greeting card using a 5X7 when folded

I have a HP Officejet Pro 8500A.   I am trying to print a greeting card, but cannot figure out how to print on the right side of the paper so that it's on the correct side when folded.    The paper is 5X7 when folded, 10X7 laid flat.

    shgilljx,
Welcome to the forums. I will try to explain this in simple terms, and you'll have to play with it. We'll use plain paper, cut to 10x7. You'll need a marker, 4-5 sheets of paper.
Lay paper flat, number top 1, bottom 2. Flip paper over right to left. number top 3, and bottom 4.Draw a line where the fold would be on each page.1) Put paper with number 3 side up in printer.
To create both templates using MW Office, do this. The requires 2 documents. One is graphic, one is text.
Text template: The text will be printed on number 2.  That means your wording must be within the bottom half of the page.
Graphic template: The image must be rotated 180 degrees. The image must be within the top half of the page.
Print the text template. Insert side #3 into the printer. The text should print on side #2.
Print the graphic template: Insert side #1 into the printer. The graphic should print on side #3.
When folded, all should be correct, if I did it right.

  • How do I use mono and 1 spot colour for print, where the spot colour applies to an element, rather than the whole image?

I am struggling to work with spot colours, using scanned images edited in Photoshop for use in InDesign to then go to print.
We print to two plates to save money for our publication. In this case magenta and black.
I could use the spot colour mode but that works with curves and I only want a certain part magenta. Imagine a business card with a gloss finish where I only want to apply it to certain part ie the name of the employee, using a curve would match a certain shade therefore this method would be unsuitable.
I have also tried using channels, one grayscale and one magenta, but using the file types either InDesign bugs or it comes out in mono.
It isn't possible to recreate the logo in InDesign, if only it was this easy...
If someones already discussed this, I can't find it, but if someone could point me in the right direction—I'd be very grateful!
Using Photoshop CS4, InDesign CS4. Access to Adobe Cloud at home...

  • Printer Cartridge - the right ones for my HP Laserjet Pro M125nw

I have recently purchased my HP Laserjet Pro M125nw which came loaded with a cartridge CF283A (83A). I have purchased a replacement cartridge - HP original product CF83X ( 83X) wich the company that i purchased it from state on their website that it is compatable with my machine, but appeared to have a larger capacity print volume than the 83A. Although they look almost identical there is a very minor difference and it will not fit into my machine? - Am i doing something wrong or have the retailer mis represented the product? should both these cartridges be compatable with my printer?
    This question was solved.

According to the HP SureSupply site only the 83A cartridge is compatible with the Laserjet Pro M125nw.  I would suggest contacting the dealer for a refund or replacement.

  • Why can't I print out the body of my emails, they come out with the right missing.

When ever I try to print out my emails(gmail) everything under the Mail column prints, but the right side is missing. I have tried everything I know and nothing works. I can't move it over and I can use the print selection. Also I can't print out the entire email if it is more than 1 page.

First try to reset Firefox printer settings, if you are still unable to print you can then reset '''all '''firefox printer settings.
    ''Reset firefox printer settings:''
    1. In the Location bar, type about:config and press Enter.
    2. In the Filter field, type print.print_printer.
    3. Right-click on the print.print_printer setting and select Reset.
    4. At the top of the Firefox window, click on the Firefox button (File menu in Windows XP) and then click Exit.
''The first way was just simple reset of firefox printer settings. However, if it failed to solve the problem then you need a full reset of all firefox printer settings. ''
    1. Open your profile folder: At the top of the Firefox window, click on the Firefox button, go over to the Help menu (on Windows XP, click on the Help menu) and select Troubleshooting Information. The Troubleshooting Information tab will open.
    2. Under the Application Basics section, click on Open Containing Folder. A window with your profile files will open. Note: If you are unable to open or use Firefox, follow the instructions in Finding your profile without opening Firefox.
    3. At the top of the Firefox window, click on the Firefox button (File menu in Windows XP) and then click Exit.
    4. In your profile folder, copy the prefs.js file to another folder to make a backup of it.
    5. Open the original prefs.js file in a text editor (such as Wordpad).
    6. Remove all lines in prefs.js that start with print. and save the file.

  • Prints shifting to the right

My Photosmart C309a printer has just begun shifting the print to the right by 1/2 to 1" when printing Word, Publisher and PDF files in landscape. Any suggestions as to what might be causing the problem?

Assuming you are talking about the TOC in the output rather
than the TOC when you are creating it, visit
    http://www.robowizard.com and
download the Skinny on Skins. I believe that describes how to set
    the width of the TOC.
I don't think there is anything in RH that allow you to

  • Lightroom 3.4 don't show the images in the correct colour.

After importing the files from my Camera, the pictures are shown in wrong colour.
I have a 600D from Canon and Windows 7 Professional 32 bit. Here is a picture of Lightroom 3.4 and the Original:
My problem is how to change the settings in Lightroom to get the right colours.
    Thanks for helping me.
    Jens

You have to make sure that you are not comparing apples to oranges..
In order to evaluate the colors you have to make sure that two conditions are met:
    a) your monitor needs to be calibrated, and
    b) the image needs to be viewed in the same color space.
Color space: LR displays every image in ProPhoto RGB - and there is no provision to change that -, wheras other programs (except image editing programs) often display images either in sRGB or they are not color managed at all.
So what makes you think that what you call the "Original" shows the right color? In which program were you viewing it? Is this program color managed? And which color space does it use? And you cannot go by the display of your camera either; they are often wrong.
In all likelihood it is LR that displays the correct color.

  • HP Office Jet Pro 8600 Plus. Will not print from the internet

    Hello all
Today my printer decided to 'throw' up a blank page ontop of the internet page I was trying to print.
I asked the printer to print from the right hand mouse button drop down menu, then, 'print'.
Then the white page pops up . You can see the internet around the edges.
The printer will print my own docs and photos.
Maybe I altered something in the settings this morning but I can't remember what I did?
Has anyone any ideas? I do hope so . Thank-You Redocean
