Printing in unix,  problem displaying printers

Hello, i'm using the java awt based printing, this works fine on Windows. On the other hand when using this on UNIX only gives me the possibility to choose lp as a printer. When i choose this, its been printed to the default printer. How can i make him display all installed printers under UNIX, or is this not supported in UNIX bij awt printing?
Thanks

stupid mistake of me, my program cleaned my PATH variable, that's why no printer could be found

  • Problem Printing Labels on Zebra label printers

    Hi Every one
(there may be old solution for my problem, if there is, point me
    to that)
my environment is oracle 6, windows 2000. server is runnig on
    windows NT.
I am generating labels using oracle reports 6 for an application
customised for pharmaceutical company. report has driver report
calls another label generator report. no matter from where i
print the report to zebra S400 label printer, my report builder
crashes. if i run the report from rep file in application, my
application crashes. if i save the report to a pdf file and
print it using acrobat reader, it prints perfectly. if i use any
other application like access, vb etc. they generate label and
    print without any problems.
i have the latest windows 2k drivers for the printer. i also
have tried re-install oracle cleint on my pc. the result is
same. applications crash when print using oracle report to label
    printer?
has any one come across such a problem? is there a solution for
    it?
zebra label printers are pretty much a standard and are being
used in allmost all the client location that my deals with. and
they (printers) number in 1000's. in most of the cases labels
are generated using zpl language in ascii, but why cant oracle
reports print report generated labels to these printers?
zebra has no comments on this, but they demonstrate their
printer capabilities using all other windows based applications
and point back to oracle reports for the problem.
i appreciate any solution, lead, tip to overcome this problem.
    thanks and regards

    hello,
i would strongly suggest, you consult the metalink knwoledge
base and seach for existing problems. if you can not find
    anything, contact oracle support services.

  • How can I print emails? Printing Error message that no printers are installed. (Printers are installed.)

When I click File > Print, I get a Printing Error message that no printers are installed. Printers are installed. When I click Yes to install a new printer, I receive a new error message that "Windows can't open Add Printer / The local print spooler service is not running. Please restart the spooler or restart the machine." I updated to the new version of Thunderbird 24.6.0. Using Windows 8. I restarted the machine. I confirmed printers are installed using Control Panel. I do not see any way to restart a print spooler. How can I fix this? Thanks.

The print spooler is a windows service and is required to print. I would hazard a guess you can not print with any application.
What I am saying is I think your windows instalation has a problem, not Thunderbird.

I can't help with the scan/print problem. You seem to have done everything I would try.
I don't know if maybe using a registry cleaner would help.

  • Illustrator CC 18.1.1 print preview is not displaying preview properly. Any work around?!

I only started having this problem recently. It might be a Yosemite bug or graphics driver bug. When I go to print in the latest version of Illustrator CC 18.1.1 I get a shrunken window of what print preview should be (see below).
Circumstances are that I have my MBP 15" Retina connected to a Apple Thunderbolt Display. When I'm working in Illustrator on the Thunderbolt display and have the laptop screen open beside it, print preview will not display correctly. If I drag the print dialog box over to the laptop screen, it then shows print preview correctly. Also, I found that if I close the laptop screen and just work off the Thunderbolt display print preview works correctly again. ITS DRIVING ME CRAZY! Please Help!
    I'm currently running:
    OS X 10.10.2
MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Early 2013)
    2.8 GHz Intel Core i7
    Memory 16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
Graphics NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M 1024 MB
Screenshot from Thunderbolt Display. Print Preview is shrunk to upper-left hand corner:
Screenshot from laptop screen when I brought the print dialog window over to it. The print preview corrected itself:

Thanks pipinngpete.  You helped me understand what was going on.  Here is my post:

  • Problems displaying rtf memo fields

    Post Author: Davidm
    CA Forum: General
We use Crystal Reports X to run reports on an Access database with a significant number of rtf memo fields. We use Total Access Memo to allow extended use of rtf within Access as our users require the additional formatting capabilities that this offers.
However, there are considerable problems displaying items like bullet points, tables and hyperlinks in the Crystal Viewer with tables in particular coming out in a real mess with all entries in the table being displayed in a list with a small square marking each cell at the end of each line.
Curiously, if you preview the report in the full version of Crystal X, it appears a bit better with the hyperlinks still underlined (bullet points still vanish) and rows in rtf tables are at least presented as a row even if the columns are not ordered and mixed (with no bounding cells visible).
Firstly, is this disparity of end result between full Crystal X Print Preview and the Crystal X Viewer fixable?
Secondly, is the limited handling of rtf tags likely to be solved in the next release of Crystal?

    Hi Mathias,
If I caught you correctly, you want to display data in Adobe forms in form of tabel, right?
    So, follow the steps:
    1. Insert one sub form on your adobe form.
    2. Set its type as "flow content" in object->subform property.
    3. Set flow direction as "Table".
    4. Insert another subform inside this subform.
    5. set its type as "flow content" and flow direction as "Table row".
    6. Now, choose binding tab, and there check "repeat subform for each Data item check box" and specify min. count for your rows.
    7. Now, insert your column fields inside this sub form once.
    8. Format its look and feel as you want.
When you run this application, it will show you multiple data as table on Adobe form.

  • Printing - Terrible Margin Problem

I have read all of the posts regarding margin problems.
Ill tried creating the custom 'iCal' size in Safari but nothing works.
When printing in week view all 4 margins spill over the edge.
This occurs whether printing to paper or PDF.
Any fixes to this or is it a bug?

    Hi,
While playing with the values of ImageableArea I'm getting changes in printout
but can't really find the correct combination of values because I'm just guessing
what the values mean..ImageableArea provides the bounding box of the area in which the printer may print for the page size named mediaOption. There will be one statement for each named page size supported by the device. DefaultImageableArea provides the mediaOption name of the default imageable area. Since there can be only one default page size, this value should be the same as the value of DefaultPageSize, DefaultPageRegion, and DefaultPaperDimension.
The syntax for defining imageable area is as follows:
*ImageableArea mediaOption: "llx lly urx ury"
    *DefaultImageableArea: mediaOption | Unknown
ll stands for lower left corner and ur for upper right corner. The bounding box value of ImageableArea is given as four real numbers, representing the x and y coordinates of the lower left and upper right corners of the region, respectively, in the PostScript language default user space coordinate system. The x and y axes of a given page size correspond to the x and y axes of that page size in the PaperDimension entry.

  • Handling Control-D(Printing in Unix)

    Hi,
I have a string buffer containing a report which i need to print in Unix. The problem is am not able to print this string buffer directly on the printer. If i create a temporary file and then print it works but the string buffer directly am not able to print.
I tried the following command but it didnt work -
    runtime.exec("echo str | lp -d 172_1 " );
I read that in unix if i use a '-' after the command then it takes input from the standard input till Control-D is pressed. Now am trying to execute the same through the code but it is not working.
Is there any workaround this problem. I dont want to create the temporary files.:-(
    Regards
    Prakhar

    Try
    Process run = runtime.exec("lp -d 172_1 " );
    InputStream is = run.getInputStream();
    is.write(printoutBytes);
    is.close();

  • Print Color Management Problem ?

I have a print color management problem I cannot solve. It reminds me of the print color management problem I had over a year ago when the compatibility conflict between LR and MAC Leopard produced horrible prints. I have Snow Leopard now and been out of the country for some months and yesterday when I tried to make some prints the same problem reemerged. So I downloaded current drivers (and ICCsfor Premium Luster) from Epson and LR 2.6 and spent a good part of the day with Martin Evening's book. I followed (I think) his instructions to make the basic print step by step but the prints still were terrible. My problem is with the color management pop up in the print settings dialog -- it says "color matching" not color management and I cannot check either "no color management " if I want LR to control the process (Kelby)  or check "color sync" if I want my Epson R800 take over. I have no idea where the "color management" pop up went. I'm clueless as usual and probably omitting a step because of frustration or brain numbness. Any help would be appreciated. WJS

The settings in Lightroom are simple. and contain in the Print Job panel in the Print module. You either select manage in printer (and then select the profile in the printer drivers) or select the profile here and then turn of all colour management in the printer drivers. The second option will usually produce the best results. What you don't want is to have the profile selected in both LR and the printer drivers, so if the driver doesn't have an option to turn of colour management then you may be forced down the first route. However it would be an unusual decision for a printer manufacturer to make drivers that can't turn off colour management, so you may wish to ask how to do it to your printer manufacturer or check the printers handbook.

  • Printer Setup Utility lists no printers

Just upgraded to Panther. Printer setup utility shows no printers, but they're in Library folder. And utility can't/won't add them. What's the problem?

    Welcome to the discussions.
When you Upgrade to any Operating System usually it will sometimes de activate a Printer you were using.
The reason is you have downloaded a brand new operating system.
When you do this you will often have to Trash what you have previously installed, plus going to your library and deleting everything that is related to your printer.
    Restart your computer afterward.
Then you need to boot up in Panther and then put the Printer Disc in and make sure your Printer is plugged in and then Download your Printer from the Disc. After you do that it is a good idea to check your printers web site and make sure you have the latest updates for your printer and operating system.
When it downloads to your Desktop you must drag it to the Printer Folder and then double click the dowload to launch it.
Double clicking it on the desktop will not launch it in the proper folder.
Some printer upgrades will download to the printer utility folder and launch while others will not.
You don't tell what printer and how your hooked up so it;s hard to address your problem without all the detailed information.
The method I explain above I have used and works.
    Cheers Don

  • Problems deploying printers

    Hi,
I've some bizarre problems when deploying printers, so I just hope you can give me few hints on where or what to check here.
We've one domain, 2 DC (older, physical dc is 2003 and vm one as 2008r2).
    We've 2 print servers (2008R2) and a new one i'm creating from scratch, 2012R2.
Everything but the new 2012R2 print server was managed by external people so I basically have no idea of what's been done there, just have faith it's somehow working.
Older print servers have about 150 printers each one, and we've hundeds of GPO in our DCs (we've more than 4000 client computers to control and about 40000 users in our DC, so it's not easy to make some steps/decisions).
Now, the problem (mainly noticed on the 2008 servers):
When I change to a GPO that deploys printers to our clients, operations such as adding a printer or changing a driver usually is 'Ok', but
sometimes seems like GPO aren't applied at all on clients. Spooler on clients start crashing (win7 clients show green progress bar and never show printers, win 8 crashes spooler process) and so on. Doing a gpupdate
says everything is ok, but changes aren't applied.
Funniest thing is when I try to remove a printer from deploying (for example, for problems with current driver on that printer). I remove it from GPO either from 'Deploy by group policy' context menu at printmanagement.msc, or editing printer connections
on GPO. No matter how I do this, seems like a local, cached copy of the GPO keeps in client computer, so I get printer even if removed, and later if I deploy it again, I get two or even tree copies of same printer! (or if I remove printer from server, clients
show me a ghost printer since it doesn't exists anymore!).
I believe this problem has been hanging for months or years, but not until now people has decided to start using print servers seriously and they were using printers locally, so the problem is now showing in full splendor.
Also, as last but not least, want to say that the way GPOs deploy printers is:
    - Deploy printer per machine
    - Same GPO is used for both older XP and new Win7 and Win8 clients, so GPO executes pushprinterconnections.
I was thinking in redoing all (over 150) printer deployment GPO using GPP instead, but while there are these problems (and where we still have XP) won't be able to do that, so any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks

    Hi Alan,
Will try these GPO, but according to the URL, I should put:
Execute Print Drivers in Isolated Processes = enabled (same as not configured)
Override Print Driver Execution Compatibility Setting Reported by Print Driver = disabled (again, same as not configured)
So, both options should be 'active'. I've made changes in server side (changed driver from shared or none to isolated, with no luck). Must I remove printer from deploy and later readd when I make an isolation change?
Anyway, on my Win8 testing box, I noticed there are printers still showing even GPO that put them there isn't active anymore.
Found that there was a copy of GPO in
    c:\windows\system32\grouppolicy\Datastore\0\sysvol\<domain name>\Policies
So I manually deleted shared printers, renamed folder inside Datastore from 0 to 1 to prevent old policies to execute, executed gpupdate /force (folder 0 was created again with a new copy of GPO), but again, old printers appeared there.
Did a registry search of ghost printer names, found them in:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Print\Providers\Client Side Rendering Print Provider\Servers\<SERVERNAME>\Monitors\Client Side Port\{043C1464-A566-4CB0-AFE7-24DC71DEF147}
    And in
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Print\Providers\Client Side Rendering Print Provider\Servers\<SERVERNAME>\Printers\{043C1464-A566-4CB0-AFE7-24DC71DEF147}
Also, found them duplicated in HKLM\Software\Wow6432Node\<blablabla>...
Not sure what {043C1464-A566-4CB0-AFE7-24DC71DEF147} is (doesn't resemble any GPO UID, but I could be a testing GPO I already deleted), nor sure why it's there or if it's safe to remove them from registry.
Hope this info gives any hint of why are them still there, problem with GPO, with print server, domain, or just client computer (altough there are more and more computers with this problem spanning).
As for the reason about not using user deployment, basically it's 'previous admins told us to keep doing this way as the did always'. Anyway, where we have this problem, that is, co-workers computers, there are one or at most 2 workers on every computer,
so made sense to put them on computer. Anyway, today I did several tests with GPP using per user on a new OU, and got mixed feelings. Liked the way it created, but disliked the fact that every few minutes (guess it was every time gpo was rechecked), default
printer was modified to local ones (guess that was because i didn't marked any printer as default one). But this isn't relevant either for this tread, so I'll investigate more (and hopefully won't have to post questions for it :-)
    Thanks in advance

  • Print from Win XP to printers on Mac 10.4 network

I have a small home network consisting of an iMac and two G4 Powerbooks all running OS 10.4.4 with three printers all connected to iMac host computer. Powerbooks are connected via DLink DI-524 wireless router. I have no trouble printing to any of my printers(Epson Stylus 740, Lexmark X75, HP Photosmart 8250)from any of my computers (either wirelessly or directly conected). I just purchased a notebook running Win XP(SP2)and tried to connect to my printers using Bonjour for Windows. Of my three printers, I can only get one (Lexmark) to print using the Bonjour address. So the other printers I tried configuring to print via the 631 port; however, when I attempt to print this way, the material spools and says "printing" (on both printers) but nothing happens. Any help will be much appreciated.

Did you ever solve this? I have virtually the same problem. I have an HP Deskjet 895 C connected via USB to a G4 running 10.3.9. Two ibooks connect via Airport flawlessly, and I can even share files between them and a Dell running XP professional, but no printer.
The solution you used for your Lexmark might be good enough to solve my problem, but I'm not sure how to do even that.

  • NT_STATUS_NO_MEMORY errors when printing in Tiger to Windows printers

I cannot print to any windows printers using Tiger 10.4.4
Here is a list of printers I have tried:
HP Laserjet 4100N served from Windows 2003 server.
Xerox Docucenter 2240 PS served from Windows 2003 server.
HP Laserjet 4000N served from Windows 2003 server.
Samsung ML-1710 served from Windows XP Professional workstation.
I will get either one of the following errors:
    NTSTATUS_LOGONFAILURE
    NTSTATUS_NOMEMORY
This happens both at home (the XP workstation) and at work (the win2K3 server). None of the Macs at work (6 all running tiger) can print to any of the printers, they all could print under OS 10.3.9.
Something seems really broken with the Samba printing subsystem.
I can mount fileshares off the same machine with the same credentials so I'm quite confident it is not an authentication issue.
I also have no difficulty finding the printer, I simply cannot print to it.
I have used native drivers and gimp-print drivers all with no success.
Also note that gimp-print drivers do not work on Intel based Macs (they just crash).

I can't use the HP JetDirect protocol for some odd reason it fails to connect when I specify the IP address of the printer.
I get a NTSTATUS_NOMEMORY error printing to the LaserJet 4000N next to my office using the SAMBA printing mechanism. This occurrs with every Mac in the building.
It would be really nice if Apple could update the samba version to the latest release from samba.org to at least see if this fixes the issue.
From the looks of these forums, there appears to be plenty of problems with Windows printers with the 10.4.4 update.

  • Missing and partially-missing elements when printing PDF's -- Problems began 3 days ago

Source files and PDF's created from them are printing fine from Ai and PS, but the same Ai- and Ps-created PDF's opened in Acrobat Pro or preview app are not.  Elements are missing, some completely, some partially; half a word or half an image missing, or an image but no drop shadow and vis-versa.  Furthermore, what does and doesn't print changes with each printing attempt.
Not sure what the problem is; it's not a matter of color profile of items or documents, missing links, outline vs. text, or even vector vs. raster.
All attempts to print have been on digital printers, both here in our office and at a local print shop, with the same results.  Problem just started 3 days ago; can't find anything in forums and am not sure where to turn...

You probably need to start by establishing whether your problem is before or after creation.
To do that just open in Acrobat a file made before the problem started which you are SURE used to be good.
    - If it's still good, you have a problem with PDF creation
    - If it's gone bad you have a problem with PDF printing

  • Unable to print to any session mapped printers

    Hello,
I've got a new, Azure VM set up and I'm trying to get it to print to any of the printers that have been mapped through my RDP session.  However, whenever I try to print a test page -- regardless of which printer I choose -- the print job always fails,
and there's no detailed information provided by the error to identify the issue.
I'm trying to print to a network printer that prints fine on the host I use to connect to my VM.  It does appear to map the printer fine and it even appears online as I can view the printer's properties.  I just cannot print to it or any of the
    other mapped printers.
What are some common solutions to this problem?  If I can't print from my Azure VM it is largely useless to my business.  Please help!

Check the Canon and OKI printer websites for Mountain Lion driver support. Hopefully you can download the drivers from there.
