Printing in Vista with UAC enabled

I am running Acrobat 8.1.2 on Vista Ultimate SP1 with UAC enabled. My account is a member of the Administrators group.
When I open IE and try to print to "Adobe PDF", Adobe properly shows me the "Save PDF File As" dialog where I enter a valid filename. The save path shown is the "User -> Documents" folder (where I have proper file rights). When I click Save to save the PDF, a dialog shows up which says "For your computer's security, this file was saved to the Temporary Internet Files Folder. Do you want to open this folder?"
If you reply yes, it opens Explorer to a path where the PDF does not exist. I cannot find the PDF anywhere on my system.
My research on Google has resulted in comments which claim that this issue was resolved in Acrobat 8.1. Yet, I still have the problem.
If I set IE to "Run as Administator", the problem does not happen. But then I lose all the security benefits of UAC in IE.
Is there a way to fix this problem without disabling UAC or without disabling Protected Mode is IE which again helps protect my computer?
TIA,
Pierre

I'd like to report the exact same problem (I'm using Vista Business, SP1, UAC enabled) and add:
-- the problem persists after a complete reinstall of Vista (up to SP1 and all updates) then a clean install of CS3 Design Premium
-- Clicking on the Adobe convert button in IE7 seemingly works since something pops up in Acrobat but the file is actually distorted.
-- If I open IE7 using "Run as Adminstrator" the problem goes away. I also have no problem using print to pdf in other programs (Firefox, MS Office, etc.)
-- the above problem plus the event error below are hardware dependent:  I have them on my Dell Optiplex 755 desktop (hard drives in ACHI/SATA mode) but not on my Vista SP1 Thinkpad laptop.
-- With Flexnet Licensing running, I also get 1 to 3 Event ID error#'s 1108 EVERY TIME I shutdown the computer (see your Event Viewer/Custom Views/Administrative Events):
"The event logging service encountered an error while processing an incoming event published from Microsoft-Windows-Security-Auditing."

  • Application crashes with UAC enabled (Need help bad)

I have an application that installs a service configured to run with the Local System account.
The application never prompts me for UAC but it crashes if the following is true
    1. UAC is enabled
    2. Service is configured to run using local system account
    Workarounds:
Disabled UAC (not an option for me) or change the service to run using a service account (possible)
Beside setting up a service account does anybody know how I can get around my issue with UAC?
    Thanks!!

Please be courteous enough to provide the exact name and version of the application causing this.  It is absolutely impossible to suggest possible actions without the name and version of the application.
Have you contacted the publisher/vendor of the application about this?  The publisher/vendor has sole responsibility for support of their products and to ensure they run properly in the Windows 7 environment.
Some applications require that the installation setup program be run As Administrator, but this is information you would have to acquire from the publisher/vendor of the application.

  • Deploying with UAC enabled on Win7 client

    Hi,
We want to enable the UAC on Windows 7 client. But I have problem deploying applications. We are in a AD domain.
How can I deploy applications in "Administrator UAC disabled mode" to not have problems ?
    Thank you for your help

    carrela,
Yep, I copy all of my source files first.
We've tried most every option we can think of, and it's the most reliable and the simplest (as far as being able to apply the same deployment methodology across the board).
Unfortunately, not every installer is a straight-up MSI. Also, you don't always want to re-package every application, because then it's your responsibility to support it, not the vendor's.
We have 600+ bundles and have made multiple passes through them all as we have changed methodologies several times.
You do have the option of uploading your large bundles to the repository, and then letting ZENworks handle deploying the files to your users in the background, but I prefer not to throw such huge items into the repository as it can take a very long time for it to compress and encrypt the files, plus, once you throw an item into the black box, the only way to modify it is to hang on to the source files and re-upload the entire thing if you want to make any changes.
You are correct about dynamic administrator working only if you copy the files locally, and I can tell you that we are an Active Directory environment and have had no problems with dynamic administrator accounts. All they are is a local account on the box that gets created/deleted on the fly by the ZENworks service (incidentally, this is why you see the "Interactive Services Detection" dialog when any installer with a UI is launched in the dynamic administrator space, because the ZENworks service is running as the SYSTEM account (session 0)).

  • How can I copy a file through a logon script with UAC enabled ?

    Hello,
I have a batch that is copying a file to "%public%\desktop\" (windows 7) folder through a logon GPO (GPO from user configuration).
Everytime I try, I have an "access denied". I know it is because UAC and I don't want to disable it.
Through explorer.exe, I can copy this file with no problem with this same account.
How can I copy a file to such folder through group policy please ?
I dont want to use GPP as the script is used on WinXP too and I dont have the hotfix to support GPP on this operating systems.
    Thank you

Since you are copying to a non-user specific-directory, I'd recommend
    using a startup script instead...

  • Deploying a program to a user with UAC enabled causes LaunchWith32BitLauncher error and system crash

We are deploying a program to run as the logged on user on a Win 7 Sp1 client which runs as an EXE silently.  It fails to execute and we believe that it's due to it being blocked by UAC.
When we examine the logs we see the following error in the Ccm32BitLauncher.log "the LaunchWith32BitLauncher failed with error code 0x800702e4" (The requested operation requires elevation) and in the execmgr.log we see "CreateProcess
or CreateProcessAsUser failed to execute command line with non-recoverable error 0x800702e4" along with "EnterRsRuningState failed to run script scriptname.exe 0x87d01101" (A fatal error has been encountered while attempting to run the program.
The program execution will not be retried.) Afterwards the system will either recycle hard or blue screen - sometimes its immediate and sometimes its 1-3 minutes later.
This program runs against the machine with the user's rights, which may or may not have admin rights, because its modifying something user specific.  For the users that have admin rights it works fine, on other non admin users is when it crashes.
Anyone else come across this out there?  We are running SCCM 2012 R2 (no CUs).
    Thanks

    Hi,
If this problem is related to UAC, you could try to set GPO settings(User Account Control: Behavior of the elevation prompt for administrators in Admin Approval Mode) to
    Elevate without prompting.

  • NativeProcess fails to work correctly with UAC

    Hi there,
I'm using AIR 2's NativeProcess API to run a downloaded update for my application.
On computers without UAC enabled, this works fine, when calling NativeProcess.start(), it starts the installer and runs absolutely fine.
On computers with UAC enabled however, after calling NativeProcess.start(), it stops, and does not run any of the lines of code after it within the function. (In my case, it creates a log message and then calls NativeApplication.nativeApplication.exit(), but I also tested with a trace statement before and after; the trace after calling NativeProcess.start never displayed.)
I am also elsewhere in the application starting javaw.exe to make use of the merapi bridge/amf messaging. Starting javaw works with UAC enabled. It seems this issue may be isolated to installation programs that come up with a UAC warning "This program is about to make changes to your computer" type message.
I also tried using File.openWithDefaultApplication to open the directory containing the installer, but this _also_ doesn't work on the machines with UAC enabled!
Is there any work-around for this problem as I can't use the applicationupdater (since it's targeted at .air only at the moment) and I can't execute the downloaded file nor navigate the user to the downloaded directory!
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

  • Trying to delete a file with Powershell script ran by a service but issues with uac

I'm having issues with a script that will delete a file on the C-Drive of a server. the script looks like this:
    param(
    [Parameter(Mandatory=$true)][string]$hostname
    $StrFileName = "C:\Program Files\NSClient++\nsclient.log"
    $LogLocal="c:\Nagios\naf_delete_nscp_log_file.log"
    $Date = Get-Date -Format "yyyy-MM-dd hh:mm:ss"
    "$date : NSClient logfile deletion requested on $hostname" | Out-File -filepath $LogLocal -Append
    If (Test-Path "$strFileName"){
    Remove-Item $strFileName -Force
    $Date = Get-Date -Format "yyyy-MM-dd hh:mm:ss"
    "$date : NSClient logfile deleted on $hostname" | Out-File -filepath $LogLocal -Append
The script is initiated from a Nagios quick action which will use nrpe to pass the host as parameter and make the nscp service, which runs as local system, run it. It works perfectly on servers that have no uac enabled, but I can't get it to work on servers
with uac. I've tried numerous options, but none seem to work. Any tips or advice to get this working with Powershell v2 code on servers with uac enabled is highly appreciated.
    Thanks.
    Willem

    Hi Willem,
one thing to note: I don't see why your script itself has a hostname parameter.
One way around UAC has always been the Windows Task Scheduler. If you register a task as System run and triggered by an event, you can simply call the event locally (which doesn't require admin permissions) and it will perform the task.
I don't know how your Nagios construct works and the script by itself doesn't make much sense. If you want advice on how to do this without resorting to tasks, I'd need to know more about the system you are using.
    Cheers,
    Fred

  • Keep UAC enabled but want to create file on Drive Root

    Hi,
I would keep UAC enabled at least to continue to use OneDrive with the Windows Explorer..
But with UAC enabled I cannot create files in my different drives root.
Any solution to work with OneDrive and the possibility to create files at root drive ?
    Thanks

    Hi,
Root Drive you meant here is C drive, isn't it? What's you meaning about "But with UAC enabled I cannot
create files in my different drives root."
What's different drives root refers to?
What's the type of your current user account? Administrator or standard? Generally speaking, administrator
account won't encounter this problem. To use OneDrive on your system, it would be better to prompt your current Microsoft Account to Administrator.

  • Can't print to pdf with Acrobat 7.1.0 in Vista

I am unable to print to pdf with Acrobat 7.1.0 in Windows Vista.  I used to be able to, now all of a sudden that functionality is gone.  I haven't knowingly done any upgrades since the last time I successfully printed to pdf, but I do have autoupdates enabled, so I can't say what Microsoft may have been up to recently.  When printing to pdf from Internet Explorer 7, the window simply closes.  A printer icon shows up in the system tray but registers 0 print jobs and soon disappears.  When printing to pdf from Word (2003), Word crashes with a series of message boxes saying something about attempting recovery.  Any suggestions?

AcroTray is running.  Thanks for asking that question, as this is one thing that I have disabled on computers running XP, since disabling it in XP doesn't adversely affect my limited use of Acrobat in any way.  I have not disabled it with Vista.  I tried printing to file, and that also caused the window to close.  I happened to have a second IE7 window open when attempting to print to file, and it did not close, so it only affects the active window.  I don't know if that helps at all; when a program crashes, I typically observe it take with it all open windows associated with that program, so the fact that this is only closing the active window seems potentially useful to me in my ignorance of what is the root cause.

  • Problem with Java and Windows (Mainly Vista and UAC)

    Hi all,
I am having a problem with a program that I've devoloped. The program itself is packaged as a jar and I plan to deploy it across multiple platforms eventually however right now i am only concerned about windows based systems. I have made an installer for a windows baised systems using NSIS to install the software files. I made the installer as I need several java packages to be installed so the program would work (JAI, J3D, JAI ImageIO) and I also require the program to have fileassociations on windows.
I know that this is not what java is about, however the majority of the users will be on windows baised systems so I've decided that OS specific installers is the best option.
During the process I have noticed that there are several key problem with java for this type of application!
The first issue that I have come across is getting file associations to work on java. As a .jar is not an excutable it is not possible to directly associate a filetype with it in java so to overcome this I currently run the program from a .bat files and also the program requires large memory so this also allows me to run the program with -xmx. The batch file that I use is :
    <code>
    cd PATH TO PROGRAM
    start javaw -Dsun.java2d.noddraw=true -Xmn100M -Xms500M -Xmx1000M -jar "PATH TO PROGRAM\program.jar" %1 -vram 134217728
    pause;
    </code>
Ok so all this appears to work fine and allows windows to have file associations and start the program and thats all works perfectly but this is a non-ideal solution. Has anyone got any advice on improving this?
The next problem that I have appears to be a problem with Vista and UAC (user access control). When a user installs the program and installs the program into the program files directory I found that the program did not work and kept saying that I did not have access to the files in the current directory. This is a problem as I read and write settings files during program execution.
On a Vista system UAC prevents file write operations into the Program Files directory unless the program has requested elevated status even if the user is a full administrator. The probem is that there appears to be no real way to achieve this under java that I'm aware of...
Has anyone else had this probem and has a suitable solution?
Any advice on these issues would realy be appricated.
    Regards
    Joey

Ok so i've kinda found a solution, its not ideal but its very good. I found this program called Elevate
A link to the site I got it was
    http://www.wintellect.com/cs/blogs/jrobbins/archive/2007/03/27/elevate-a-process-at-the-command-line-in-vista.aspx
This program allows you start java with a UAC dialog for high access using
    Elevate java -jar myjar.jar
This then allows you to have full access using java... I guess it could be dangerous but it does the job.

  • Error 0x00000709 Networked printer not working in a home network with HomeGroup enabled.

I should start by describing my network by device.
Gateway device - Motorola SB5120 SURFboard cable modem
Router/WAP device - Linksys Wireless G Broadband Router with 4 port Switch Model: WRT54G v4 Security: WPA2 with firewall.
Windows 7 Ultimate Desktop with Homegroup enabled (Printer driver installed & ethernet wired)

Windows 7 Home set to homegroup for the Desktop (Wireless)
    Brother Printer Model: HL-2170W (Wireless)
HP Printer Model: HP Officejet 6500A Plus (Wireless)
    What have I done?
Installed drivers on 2 of the 3 computers. The final computer (Win7 Home) was added in later and works fine when connecting to the internet through the WAP. However it does not even find the printer when trying to install the driver which is a part of the
process for driver installation for the Brother Printer.
I had set up the printer for two of the three computers and had it working at one time however in trying to get the printer set up for the final computer I somehow have messed up those settings.
During that setup I tried to move the printer to a networked printer (It was shared before and installed on the network with both the Desktop and the Win7Pro lappy able to print but it would not print for the new arrival to the Homenetwork. This caused
me to seek a solution which involved installing the proper driver in the Win7Home and the discovery that the driver installer could not find the Brother printer at all which prompted the moving of the printer to a networked printer.) (The Win7Home computer does
not find the HP printer either but that is a can of worms yet unopened.)
I am sure there are a few things that I did not do correctly and I may have left out some additional information which you may require. If I can help clarify this question please feel free to query me. I thank you in advance for your time and consideration.

How can I enable this option ?
How can I print my selection using the standard Print Dialog ?

  • DualCoreCenter has a (big) problem with Vista's UAC

    Hi
A few days ago i've purchased a new setup with P35 Platinum Combo board.
Installed Vista, all of drivers, and 'Dual Core Center' utility (DCC Sidebar too).
The problem is, every time vista boots its UAC (user access control) prompts for permission for Dual Core Center (and DCC Sidebar).
Well, yesterday these utilities was at least started when i'd allow them after the prompts. However, they wont start now, even if i allow them - vista reports DCC is closed, find solution online etc.
The DCC version that came on cd was 2.0.1.8, so i went to MSI site and download the latest 2.0.4 version. Uninstalled the old one, installed the new, and nothing changed - the same problem with UAC.
There are certain expert's opinions, this is MSI's flaw, because DCC cannot be Vista certified if it requires admin privileges at start-up.
Is it possible that DCC is not yet fully Vista ready?

    Quote
The Intel Desktop monitor runs without admin privileges. Someone at MSI is being lazy.
    from this thread.
I really like DCC because i saw many pc's that runs that app and works almost noiseless. Ability to control temp and speed of fans is something that i really appreciate.
On the other hand, i have some (relatively new) Gigabyte boards with their EasyTune apps which work pretty lousy, cpu fan roars often without any visible reason, and it takes to much time for decreasing its speed...
But, if you know of some decent replacement for DCC, which will work on Vista without this UAC issue, you're welcome.
    Thanks
    edit:
and yeah, i have reinstalled it a couple of times.

  • Trouble connecting OSX to a shared printer on Vista

I am running OSX 10.4 and can't seem to get it to print to Vista. This is the weird thing. Firstly, I can access shared folders on Vista from OSX, I can print to the printer hooked up to Vista from Vista on Parallels, I can print to the printer connected to my PC from XP through boot camp but I just can't print from OSX direct. So to make that clear I can run Vista on my Macbook Pro with Parallels and print to the network shared printer no trouble at all but not from say Pages or Keynote.
Has anyone got this problem or any suggestions? I have tried customer support and they suggested a few things I had already done like Bonjour, Option button - Windows printing through Samba, Network Neighbourhoood and a few others but with no success. Please help. I am thinking it may be a compatibility issue with Vista, OSX and Printing Service but being this new to Mac I can't be sure of that by a long shot. Thanks for your time guys.
