Printing in white ink.

I know you can't print white using black and color cartridges, I get that, so let's not rehash what everyone already knows... the question is quite simple - has HP ever made a cartridge with WHITE ink to replace black ink cartridges?
I'd like to print white on transparencies, so printing "tricks," like white text on black background so the printer prints around the text doesn't work... it's really simple - have they, or have they even thought of making a white cartridge?
I haven't used ink refillers, but maybe someone has done white?

White ink on black paper (even construction paper) would be much easier to see for sight impaired people.
I teach music and have several student with vision problems. I use Finale® music software and the white paper "glares" wereas the black does not.
Solution? A white ink cartr to replace the black. I have an hp 2400 series printer so one to replace 56.

  • Black background with white ink

    Hi Everyone,
I'm pretty new at designing and one of my friends requested for me to do a business card.  I have a few problems with it: 1) the black background is not showing up when I click preview or save as .pdf file.  How do I make sure the black background will show? 2) the white ink needs to be done on the black background (black business cards with white text).  I want to make sure I cover all my steps so the printing turns out great.
    Thank You for your help,
    Aleksandra

You need to specify what printing method you are preparing for. For offset printing, you usuallly don't print the white; you print the black around the white. But nowadays, business cards are done in a variety of printing methods, including for example, screen printing onto plastic cards. Screen printing can print opaque white ink onto a colored substrate. "Gold" could mean anything from a Pantone metallic spot color (offset) to gold foil (letterpress) to an opaque screen ink (screen printing).
If you don't know, just forget the background, prepare the white elements as solid black (100%K, not a so-called "rich black"), and communicate the printing color to the printer.

  • Ability to print in white

I have an HP Officejet J4540.  Does anyone know if I can print in white by changing the color settings?  I would like to print white letters on dark purple paper.
    thank you, DonnaCD
    This question was solved.

The printer uses a subtractive process, it cannot print white on a dark background.  (The lightest color it can print is no ink at all, which would be the color of the background.  You would need a printer with white ink.  I do not know of any currently available printers with this capability, I think there used to be an Alps printer that would print white.
Another option would be to print in reverse, printing the purple background on white paper.  This would us a lot of ink and may not give the results you want....

    Hello @Bob_Loblaw ,

  • I have a Mac and use an EPSON NX510 printer. I would like my printer to only print in black ink unless I otherwise indicate. How do I do this?

I have a Mac and use an EPSON NX510 printer. I would like to print in black ink only and cannot locate how to do this?

You usually find an option to print in black and white or gray scale in the settings of your printer that come up  when you choose "print" in the file menu of the program you are using at the time.
BUT, if what you want to do is print with only black ink because you are out of ink in one of the color cartridges, that is usually not possible. For some reason I can't remember, printers makers prevent the use of the printer as soon as one of the color cartridges is empty.

  • Printing the white in an image

Is there a way to change the content of a picture file so that the white in the image prints as white as oppose to being an absence of colour? I have a good photo stylus printer. I would like to be able to print black and white drawings onto manila.

It would be easier to scan the manila paper to use its color as a swatch and print with black and manila on white paper.
    In order to print with white, you need a printer that can support white as a color. Generally this is an expensive printer, which would probably be better done at a print shop that has a printer that supports white ink. That being said, you may have a hard time finding anyone, since it is a rare request. {My assumption}

  • Printing black & white

    Hi,
I have only had a mac for a few months now and there is one thing I still can't figure out...
How can I set my printer to only print black & white, either for the job at hand or as a default.
I have the 2.16 Core Duo 15" MBP with the Canon PIXMA iP5200.
I have wasted all my color ink on various items for school which only need to be in black and white.
    Adam

    Hi Adam
    In the Print Dialogue box
    ColorSync
Quartz Filter, choose black and White.
If you do this a lot you can set up a Preset, say called B&W, save it to the chosen setting, and then next time just select it.

  • Printer won't print in black ink

I have a HP Photosmart 5510 printer.  The printer will no longer print in black ink - the page comes out white.  I have tried troubleshooting the problem by replacing the black ink cartridge, cleaning the printheads, cleaning the screen inside the ink cartridge, and unplugging the printer to no avail.  The printer is only 2 years old and hardly been used.  Any suggestions on how to fix this problem?

    Hi mmariotti,
    Welcome to the HP forums!
I'm sorry to hear your Photosmart 5510 has stopped printing black properly, but I will definitely do my best to lend a hand to get this resolved
Can you please just verify that you've gone through the steps within this Printer Does Not Print Black Ink or Color Ink, or Prints Blank Pages document for me please? If you've already tried all of that, or it doesn't resolve the issue, please let me know whether the printer is in or out of warranty and which country you're located in, thanks! Feel free to private message me the country information

  • How do I preview overprinting white ink (spot color) or a tint thereof?

how do I preview overprinting white ink (spot color) or a tint thereof?

Illustrator's overprint preview always assumes the translucency of offset litho inks. It doesn't accommodate per ink opacity.
And it's not an impossibiliy; it's just not a feature of Illustrator. Photoshop does it in multi-channel mode quite handily. That's one big reason why many who design for screen printing build their multi spot color projects in Photoshop, even when the nature of the artwork itself might argue in favor of a vector drawing program.
For example, imagine artwork involving reptile skin. A piece designed for screen printing might call for laying down a dark green ink first, overprinting a yellow-green for highlights, and overprinting a white for speculars on top of that. And if set up correctly in Photoshop, Photoshop's composite would preview it quite well. But Illustrator's Overprint Preview won't, and neither will its normal Preview.
You could cause Illustrator's normal Preview to simulate the end results by applying a slight transparency effect to objects which have the lighter overprinting inks. But that is not the same thing as being able to specify the opacity of the ink which a spot color Swatch represents. Doing it would wreck the separations as Illustrator flattens the transparency effect.
So it is what it is: If you want to preview an overprinting opaque ink in Illustrator, you just have to go with the normal Preview (not Overprint Preview) which previews overprinting objects as if they knockout, even when they don't.

  • How do I print in black ink only? I have an Officejet J6480.

It doesn't matter where I print from, Word, web or email, I am unable to find where I can change the settings to print in black ink only as my default.  I would prefer to have to change settings to print in color.

  • How do I indicate white ink?

I am running ID5, AND using Pantone System Colors, Solid Coated.
I am preparing artwork to be printed directly onto a CD and need to specify white ink.  Specifying "Paper" in the Swatches palette, means anything that looks white on the screen now will show up as silver on the finished disc, because the CD will show through.
I have Pantone's Color Bridge, and white is nowhere to be seen on it!
I just now opened the PMS Solid Coated swatch menu, selected Spot colors, typed White as a new color and scrolled through the list of Spot colors.  There is no white swatch, so I left the color-number field blank, clicked OK, and am now looking at White listed in the Swatches palette.  Is this the way to indicate white ink?
    Thank you!

There isn't an ink in the Pantone system named white but a few of the pastels approach white (i.e. 9062).
There's nothing stopping you from creating a spot color named White or White Ink and you can also change the color definition of Paper.
So here I've changed the Paper definition to a gray color to imitate a metallic paper and made a spot color named White Ink defined as Lab 97|0|0. If I show the White Ink plate in Separation preview I can see that it will separate correctly:

  • Printer is recognised , inks seem ok, but printing blank pages

Printer is recognised , inks seem ok, but printing blank pages

This is my story, sounds like yours. Let me know if you get any help please.I will do the same.
OK, this is the craziest thing I have seen in a while. My HP printer that has worked flawlessly for years with my Windows XP PC, printed an incomplete page. I tried to print the page once more, it went through the motions of printing, paper feed, printer head went back and forth. When I looked at the page there was no text printed at all, not a trace. Okay, so I must be out of ink, checked the level in tools and it said about a quarter was left. The heck with it, lets put a new ink cartridge in. Did it, checked the level again, now full. Printed the same page and it went through the motions of printing, paper feed, printer head went back and forth. When I looked at the page there was no text printed at all, not a trace. I tried the printer from my laptop, same thing. My wife PC, same thing. So the printer must be dead. This is where it gets crazy! I had a new printer from a combo PC purchase I made in December. I installed the NEW HP printer and the drivers, everything went fine. I printed the test page which is two pears (fruit) in COLOR and it printed fine. Great I am back up and running. Tried to print the page that failed on the old printer and the same thing happened. Are you kidding me! Tried the new printer from my laptop and the same thing happened, no text. It will print in Paint, in color and black. It will print from HP software when printing pictures in color and black and white. It will print from my email suite (Thunderbird) in color and black. It won't print in Open Office in color or black. It won't print in Word, in color and black. It won't print in Word Pad or Note Pad in color and black. New printer, new ink, I don't understand. PLEASE HELP ! Thank you for your time. Windows XP, USB cable, New Deskjet D1341.

  • White ink

I am trying to print an invitation onto green cardstock using just black and white. The text that is supposed to be white will not show up at all, as if it's just not printing it. I've tried variations of extremely light greens, yellows, blues and grays, to which the text still doesn't show up right. I've also tried changing the printer settings to pure black and white, with similar results. Is there a way to get white ink to print??

    Hi,
Unfortunaterly no white ink on the printer, it will treate white as paper back ground, in this case green

  • Hp 6600 won't print in black ink only

Two of my color cartridges are supposedly empty (but I rather doubt it) so I decided I'd print in black ink only. I followed the directions as directed in the hp software and changed preferences to black ink only. Still, when I try to print I get a message that I need to replace the two colored ink cartridges that are empty. I'm very frustrated. Why won't this work?

I went to the link suggested and the answer was what I already knew. Shame on HP for selling a product without including that you need all cartridges full to use black and white In LARGE BOLD  print. The following is not helpful.  It only tells me what I already know.   I will NEVER buy an HP product again. HP Officejet Printers - Printing with Depleted CartridgesIssueCan the printer operate for an extended period of time with depleted cartridges?SolutionFor regular usage, this product is not designed to print using only the black cartridge when the color cartridges are out of ink. However, your printer is designed to let you print as long as possible when your cartridges start to run out of ink. When there is sufficient ink in the printhead, the printer will offer you the use of black ink only when one or more of the color cartridges are out of ink, and the use of color ink only when the black cartridge is out of ink.The amount that you can print using black or color ink only is limited, so have replacement ink cartridges available when you are printing with black or color ink only. When there is no longer sufficient ink to print you will get a message that one or more cartridges are depleted, and you will need to replace the depleted cartridges before you resume printing.
