Printing is misaligned or 'off center'

Trying to print business cards and the text is slightly off center.  Same with anything I print.  Did an alignment and have the lasted updated and drivers.  Print quality is good.

Windows 7 64bit
Thanks.

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. The spiral is at the top of the page and depending on how you setup the preview it will be at the top or side. It will have to print along the side because the paper has to be rotated 90 degrees to go thru the printer. So it shouldn't matter where it appears in the preview.

  • Can I print my file slightly off-center?

Hello, my InDesign file is a landscape 8.5" x 11" (letter) document. It's an event program, so it's designed to be folded down the middle.
Unfortunately my printer has an issue where it prints everything 1 mm lower than it should be.
Is there a way to have InDesign print my file +1 mm vertically? If not, I can just tweak my design to compensate.
    Thanks!

Have you tried a custom paper size—adjust the height + or - like this with the Page Position upper left. In this case I'm moving the print 10mm from the normal 215.

  • Printing from PS 5 wont "center" on page?

Equipment: MacBook Pro Unibody, 8 gigs of RAM, 300 GB HD.
    OS.10.5.8
    Epson 4800 printer.
I've just updated from CS3 to PS5, printing to an Epson 4800 with all new drivers. When printing an 8x10 image I can't get the image to center on a sheet of 8.5x11 inch paper. I've tried "center image", and manually adjusting the margins; when using "center image" I always get even borders on top/left/bottom sides and 1 large border on right side when printing landscape. Turning off "center image" and either adding factions of an inch to the left side of a landscape, or grabbing and dragging the image to the right,  does move the image over but always cuts/crops off the right side when printed!
Just tried same technique on friends MacPro, same OS & PS5, printing to Epson 3800; his prints ALWAYS center up!
Thanks in advance for ANY suggestions. Alan

Dave, I did/do have the latest print driver and Firmware update from Epson for my 4800. I just downloaded them again this morning (exact same files) and installed again.
    I took your advice and created a Custom Paper size: 8.5x11, with top/left/bottom margins set to 0.00 and right side set to 0.00 & then 0.13 inch; I got the exact same results;
    The Print dialog box shows the following;
    The image appears to be centered in it's custom paper size BUT when printed the print area always has the following margins;
Left = 8/16in,  Right = 9/16in, and the print is always cropped on the RIGHT side buy exactly 1/16 of an inch ;~(
This is driving me nuts and wasted lots of cheap paper and expensive ink (started at 9am, now 2:30pm!) but when I print to regular letter paper I only have to cut down one edge and my prints aren't cropped. Full bleed is limited to certain papers, usually off rolls, I think.
Thanks for the help anyway, BTW, there is no "Non-Printable Area" option anywhere on my Mac, not that I've found anyway.

  • Lightroom printing is off center

Hello all,  I just replaced my home computer after it got fried from an electrical surge.  While I was at it, I moved from a PC with XP to a Mac Pro with Snow Leopard.  I had to transfer my Adobe License for Photoshop too and moved to CS5.  The move has been great so far,  but when I print out of Lightroom 2.7 with my Epson 3800 my prints are either off center or off the page.  Printing with my previous PC setup was perfect and now I am totally baffled.  I am in a bit of a time crunch too,  as I need to get a photo shoot printed and delivered to a client.  I even thought about dowloading the Lightroom 3 Beta to see if this would give me a temporary solution.  Any one have any ideas?  I have been searching the web for a few days looking  for a solution and my tech person is baffled too.
    Many Thanks,
    J. Paul

Make sure to visit the Page Setup dialog and select your printer model (3800) from the "Format For" popup menu, and the page size from the "Paper Size" popup menu:
    See suggested steps here:
    http://people.csail.mit.edu/ericchan/dp/Epson3800/printworkflow.html#lightroom
    and
    Mac screenshots here:

Then set the margins appropriately in LR's Layout tab.

  • Why is my PDF printing off center when I have the landscape box checked?

I am having some trouble with printing my pdf's. I have several PDF's that are oriented in landscape orientation. In the past, they printed normally in landscape mode or autoportrait/landscape mode. Now they print fine in autoportrait/landscape mode, but print off center when printed in landscape mode. The reason this is a problem, is I have given instructions to 100's of my buyers for printing in "landscape mode"....have heard from one buyer already today with this printing problem. I  was then able to reproduce the problem on my own printer.  Is this a recent Adobe update and if so will it be fixed any time soon? Or is there something I have unknowingly done to my printer setting and this buyer has done the same? Thank you in advance for your help.

This is happening when I have the "actual size" box checked  (the scaling box is not checked). Also, the printable area is centered on the page in the original documents. I have printed all of these pdf's in the past with the landscape box checked and have never had this happen.

  • Any way to print off-center?

Since Aperture centers the image on the paper, not within the printer's usable print area, it won't produce a 12x18 print on 13x19 paper on my Epson 4000, because the 4000 has a minimum bottom margin of 0.556". Aperture sets that as the minimum margin on all sides and so prints only 17.88" wide. In Photoshop, I can center the 12x18 image in the printable area, which is more than 18" (19" - 0.556" bottom margin - 0.13" top margin = 18.314"), and I get a full 12x18 image printed off-center on the paper. Aperture does not seem to provide a way to do this - it insists on centering on the paper.
    Anyone know of a workaround?

Thanks for actually addressing the question. Yes, I have set Custom Layout to 12x18, but I cannot set the border to zero - it is automatically set to a minimum of 0.556" and cannot be reduced. I tried setting a custom paper size of 13x18.5 and was able to set the border to 0.25". My thinking was that this would trick the printer into printing closer to the leading edge of the paper, where the printer's margin is smaller (0.13"). Unfortunately, when I did this, the printer kept giving me "incorrect paper size" errors and refusing to print. The 4000 can print borderless only at the long edges of the paper, not at the leading and trailing edges.
I recall that my Epson 2200 had the same margin issues, but it was possible to override the printer's defaults by using a "borderless" paper setting. With the 4000, this seems not to be possible.
As for color, I am very familiar with color management. I let the app manage color, selected the Ilford profile, perceptual rendering, black point compensation, set print rez at 1440, selected the appropriate media, and turned off color management in the driver. I even tried using absolute rendering, figuring this might lock down the neutrality of the b&w, but no. CS3 still rendered skies ever so slightly cyan, where Aperture was more consistent across the tonal range.
Ultimately, I used QuadTone RIP, a lovely little $50 shareware RIP dedicated to B&W printing. Despite the name, it also works with color inks. Does a terrific job. In daylight, my Aperture/Epson driver prints look very neutral. But, under artificial light, I see a slight reddish cast in midtones. Prints made with QTR are neutral under any light and do not suffer from metamerism.
    ...'Case anyone's interested.

How do I prevent this in the future?
Before ordering any print product proof it by creating a PDF file of it according to this Apple document:    iPhoto, Aperture: Previewing an order in iPhoto or Aperture.  Save the PDF file to compare with the printed copy when it arrives.
For this book contact Apple via the 800-275-2273 phone number. Apple has been very good a correcting problems.  They gave me a refund so I could order again.

  • Printing off center with splix and gdi drivers

I was just installing cups to get printing working with my Samsung ML-1740 printer. There are two drivers, I found, available for it splix and gdi. Splix is supposed to be the better driver, but I found both print pages off center, to the right, splix more so (about 1/8 inch) than gdi. Is there anyway to correct for this globally on my system? I'd rather not have to modify the margin settings in every document manually. Or is this just a bug and going to have to be addressed by the authors of the drivers?

When printing using Acrobat Reader, the problem with me was DOH, the paper was jiggling around in the paper feeder. I tightened up the guides and got better results sideways, and ok with the length.
However, the person I am doing the job for continued to have problems, and it was not until he sent me a printout from his HP all in one printer that I suspected that his cheap printer was trying to HELP matters.
I had run the background color full bleed to the very edges of the paper. Easier to find out where the off center problem was. He was pretty good on the vertical centering, but the bottom of the card really showed a distinctive problem. The ink stopped printing at EXACTLY the usual 1/2" margin on the bottom, where one would normally break apart or trim the cards. In addition, the HP apparently pulled this edge 1/8" up. I think the HP was trying to HELP us idiots from running the live area (ie, type) right to the crop edges.
So, I changed the design, removed all physical crop marks (used only for gauging how the pages were printing in relation to the scored biz card stock) and removed the background color bleed from the bottom...actually redesigned all cards so there would be no bleeds at all, He seemed to think that solved the problem, and the HP did not feel inclined to help. And it did not vertically shrink the pdf image to the safe live area.
It's hard dealing with someone with very rudimentary skills in these things. Even phone conversations weird. He didn't understand that all the ten cards were now one pdf image, and that Avery template would not help in this case.
He's waiting to get more card stock for his biz cards, and will finally see if it printed right for him.

  • Epson 4000 prints off center

Using any of several applications (Aperture, Photoshop, Lightroom) my Epson 4000 is printing off center since upgrading to 10.5.4. I have checked all printer settings, reloaded the latest drivers and I have the latest firmware. If I make the border too small, it cuts off part of the image and prints the cutoff portion on a second sheet. The local service center said it is a Leopard issue. Does anyone have a suggestion or a solution?
    Thanks
    Peter

A4 on a lot of Epsons has a margin on one side. On my the 1290 the minimum is 14.4mm so I set all the sides to 15mm and use zoom to fill to give an even border. I'll also saved my main paper types in presets by saving as Standard.

  • HP Officejet 7610 randomly printing off center.

The header says it all, when printing one copy will be perfect, then the next comes out off center towards the right of page. Does it randomly whether printing one at a time or in multiples. Many more prints come out off center than not. Have updated firmware and drivers, still no luck. Printer is communicating wirelessly.

Hello , and welcome to the HP Community! I hope you have a pleasant experience with us.   I understand you are having an issue with off center printing on your HP Officejet 7610 Wide Format e-All-in-One printer. I'd love to help you with this. The first thing I would suggest, would be to make a multiple page copy on the printer itself. This will tell us if the issue is being cause by the printer hardware. If the copies print without issues, then I'd recommend making sure you have the most recent version of the HP software installed for your printer. You can download the software here - HP Officejet 7610 series Full Feature Software and Drivers If the copies are still off center, than we are most likely dealing with a hardware problem and I have a few suggestions. Please follow the steps in this document to check for jammed paper or obstructions in the paper path:A 'Carriage Jam' Message Displays for HP Officejet 7610 Wide Format e-All-in-One Printer Series (H912) I'd also recommend uninstalling and re-installing the ink cartridges. You should also try to align the printhead manually from the front panel of the printer:From the Home screen on the printer control panel, touch the Right Arrow (), and then touch Setup ().Touch Tools, and then touch Align Printhead.Wait while the printer aligns the printhead and then prints an alignment page. Please respond to let me know if we have resolved your issue!Have a fantastic day.

  • HP5250 Printable CDs Print Off Center

Using the printable CD feature, I find the image placement prints off center. At first they were slightly off to the left which was no big deal. But the last few I printed came out noticeably shifted toward the bottom leaving a sliver of white at the top.
Is there a way to realign the CD print tray?
Also, is there a way to print right to the outer edge and center hole without having an unprinted border?
I use Roxio Express Labeler that came with the printer.

  • Envy 4500 Printing Envelops 'Off Center'

I'm seeking some information regarding the printing of envelopes on the aforesaid printer which I just purchased yesterday. Printing envelopes is an issue pertaining to line straightness. Some envelopes print off center (No. 6). Envelopes are inserted correctly and in center. However, the tray guides seem to be a little off center. Printing envelopes can even be printed with the flap on the right side, so I cannot understand why the manual states for the flap to be on the left. Another facet is that the print on the envelopes is darker and not as sharp when printing on paper, unlike the C4680 which printed sharper.  Any assistance is truly appreciated. Thank you very much. P.S. - By the way, the 4500 is somewhat slow on startup, unlike the C4680 I previously owned. To scan an item, you must press the button 3 or 4 times to scan; again, unlike the C4680. The HP solution center which was part of the C4680 was a most useful tool. However, the 4500 employs a more intricate means to accomplish, and configure settings.

Update: Printing envelopes has reverted back to off center print. In printing with the flap on the right places the addresses upside down with flap in wrong direction. A. HP wished to install 'generic' drivers. I said no. B. HP wished to do a remote. C. HP tried to use the same principles (policy) to allow the printer (Envy 4500) to print correctly. All the steps (around 6 or 7) are meaningless and really serve "no" purpose for a defective printer.  I'm returning due to the fact that I cannot print business envelopes correctly. This facet is a key function for me. I do not at all appreciate uneven or tilted print.

  • Off center 4x6 photos

Is it my printer or something else? Printing 4x6 photos with an HP L7590 AIO from iPhoto and the right margin or the top margin is but a sliver depending on whether it's horizontal or vertical. Contacted Hp support and their suggestion was to use HP Photosmart Studio for printing. The margins are more equal with that option but it's a bit more time consuming than printing directly from iPhoto. There must be a setting somewhere for the margins. I thought that maybe by constraining the image to 4x6 would be the answer but the photos still come out off center. Even when printing borderless there is a narrow white margin on one side even with 5x7s. Haven't tried printing a 5x7 without checking borderless so I don't know what the results would be.
I would like to begin with solving the non-centered 4x6 photo printing first.

Thank you LN for your suggestions.
I deleted the .plist file, reset the personal preferences and printed a horizontal 4x6 photo that was previously constrained to 4x6 in iPhoto.
Unfortunately, the top margin on the horizontal print is about 1/16" and the bottom one is 3/16".
The left margin is almost 5/16" and the right side is closer to 1/2".
The paper is 4x6 hp advanced glossy Q7906A and the measurements above are after removing the tear off tab.
The iPhoto library has never been moved from its original location.
