Printing is offset in weird way

I have a file that has a 1.5"h x 3.5"w box in the very top left hand corner (0,0). I understand that my printer will not allow me to print to the very edge of the document so this is not a bleed question (or at least I don't think it is).
Here's the problem. On the file, this box ends at 1.5" down and 3.5" to the right. However, when I print the document it prints 1.385" down and 3.65" to the right.
That means not only does the printed document look different than the online document… the printed document also doesn't seem consistent (with the verticial being shorter and the horizontal being longer).
Can anyone explain what's happening and how to resolve it?
Thanks

Check the print dialog to see if you are scaling the print in some way.

  • Issue w/ Queues in Server 10.5.5, Xerox 7760s: They print, but offset

    A little background:
    Currently we have a mix of 80 fully patched 10.4.11 and fully patched 10.5.5 clients printing directly to 4 identical Xerox Phaser 7760DXs via ipp. They work great. No problems with clients printing directly to the printer.
    -BUT-
    For reasons beyond the scope of this post, we MUST move the clients to use server queues (PaperCut).
    Server is now a clean test server running fully patched 10.5.5 OS X Server with just print services running.
    We set up 4 queues the usual way, and then set clients to print to the named queues via LPR, designate the correct driver/ppds on the client.
    The clients CAN print, however, out of every app we try, from TextEdit to Illustrator CS3 -anything-
    the print outs are blown-up or offset really noticeably -
    Say you set up Preview to
    print a 7"X5" jpg to centered, on tabloid in landscape. Set the scale option to %100 (no scaling) and
    it prints basically off center: up and to the left about 25% of the total page size- really off.
    Again, not app related, textedit does this with a single word of centered text, photoshop CS 3, BBEdit, Firefox, etc every print, all print out offset more or less to the same degree, no matter how one sets them up.
    Same clients, setups, but printing to the printer directly, rather than by the queues, in all the same apps, you never have this issue.
    We did look at this as far as the pstop file version and 10.5.5:

    and no, substituting the older pstop files did not correct the situation.
    Ideas, input greatly appreciated.

  • Add Printer Marks Offset

    When using the 'Add Printer Marks' feature under Print Production tools, is there a way to set the offset of the resulting marks from trim? I get files every day that have no marks and the marks that this feature create just don't work. The offset appears to be only about .040". It needs to be 0.125" for most jobs. You can edit object on the marks after creation in Illustrator but that would be way too much work on a multi page file.
    Is there a simple Acrobat plug in that would have this feature other than Pitstop available
    Thanks.

    You cannot adjust the printer marks offset in the 'Set Page Boxes' under
    Print production. I need to know how to change the offset of the 'Default'
    setting in the Add Printer Marks feature. Making the Quark Express marks the
    default would also suffice.
    Thanks.

  • ITunes Library corrupted in weird way, how do I correct or rebuild?

    For the record, I'm running iTunes 8.2. I have 27K+ tracks total. All of my CD rips are ripped twice, one for Lossless for home use and the second as 256K AAC for iPod/iPhone use. My tracks sit on my home Leopard Server, but the iTunes library is on a local machine (Mac Mini 2009).
    Several point releases ago (probably in iTunes 6 or 7), iTunes had a problem where certain tracks got ripped from CDs as protected tracks (.m4b). I didn't realize it until l started doing an inventory of my library (purchased from iTunes Store). Over time, I had deleted many of the protected tracks (reripping them to .m4a format) but many of them were still files (.m4b) on the server. I ended up manually deleting all of those files recently. Best I can tell, all the tracked that search as "protected" in my library are songs purchased from the iTunes Store but not yet converted to unprotected AAC. (about 70 tracks).
    But those "phantom" protected tracks still show up in weird ways. First, they were incorporated into playlists over time so I have that editing to do. But they also still show up in Smart Playlists, as if they are still listed in the library somewhere. Also, they show up in shared library functions, like if one of my laptops is sharing the main library, or even with third party apps like Simplify Media.
    My theory is that the iTunes Music Library still lists these files but its only used for stuff like Smart Playlists and sharing. If this is the case, how do I excise the bad data from the library? If I do a rebuild (dragging the XML file to the desktop), will the references to the bad data just end up in a new XML file (this seems to be the case in every major iTunes update in recent months). If I rebuild without it and do a reimport of the files, what happens to my iPods, two iPhones and all their data/apps?
    Thanks

    The iMac 500 doesn't have a DVD drive, and I don't have a firewire cable to hook it up to the 800 in Target Disk mode.
    Anyway, I am wondering if it has something to do with my network layout? The iMac 800 is on a different router than the iMac 500. This doesn't interfere with normal network operations - but does iTunes intentionally block this to prevent sharing outside one's own network? If so, isn't there something that can be installed on one or both of the computers to get around that?

    Send Apple feedback. They won't answer, but at least will know there is a problem. If enough people send feedback, it may get the problem solved sooner.

    Our organization uses an Oracle database hosted on a Unix platform and one of our data processing outputs is a “stuffer” document that has a barcode, and Unix jobs automatically send the document to a printer.
    Is there a way, or does Adobe have a product or solution, to create a PDF version of the document including the barcode, before it’s sent to a printer?

    What format is the document that is printed? Or what technology is used to format the printer? There isn't a standard way of doing things in Unix.

    Adobe Reader 11.0.07 defaults to duplex printing. Is there a way to set the default to leave that "print to both sides of the page" box unchecked?
    I am working on an end-user's computer, I just updated to the newest Adobe Reader and they don't ever print duplex. I want to be able to have the "print to both sides" box unchecked on the print dialog by default. Is there a way to do this? I have the printer settings all set to 1-sided but it is adobe print dialog settings that keep messing it up.
    Thanks!

    Hi John,
    Have you tried repairing Reader and checked?
    Does this issue occur only on this machine or are you facing the issue with other computers as well which have updated to Reader 11.0.10?

  • Weird way how Dates are handled in APEX?

    Hi
    APEX 2.1.x, 10g XE, Windows XP
    I am facing a unique situation, when I am trying to save a date value (with its time component) in APEX. The time portion (hours, minutes and AM/PM) are accepted into separate text variables by the user. My Date column A_Time is a hidden column on the form, whose value is computed via a pl/sql expression, after SUBMIT.
    The date part of the A_Time is derived from an already populated another date field on the form.
    My PL/SQL computation expression for A_Time is as below
    to_date(:P1_EXISTING_DATE||' '||:P1_ARRIVAL_HOUR||':'||:P1_ARRIVAL_MINUTE||:P1_ARRIVAL_AMPM,'DD-MON-YYYY HH:MIPM');
    It is storing the date part but completely ignoring the time part (hours,mints am/pm values). Looks like theres trunc happening behind the scenes may be?
    Is this a weird way that APEX behaves? I am curious to know if anyone had the similar issue or is it something thats happening at my end?
    Thanx
    Suma
    to_dateTO_CHAR(TO_DATE(:P1_REPORT_DATE||' '||:P1_ARRIVAL_HOUR||':'||:P1_ARRIVAL_MINUTES||:P1_ARRIVAL_AMPM,'DD-MON-YYYY HH:MIPM'),'DD-MON-YYYY HH:MIPM');

    Arie,
    Thanks so much for responding. Yes A_Time is a DB column and its format mask has been set as DD-MON-YYYY HH:MIPM.
    There was a small change in my computation pl/sql for this column
    it is actually as below. I had to do redundant to_char and to_date conversions, to get around some ora-errors that apex threw at me:). Funny thing is the below exression is perfectly valid, (when check in toad) with substituted values for :p1_report_date and hour, minutes and am/pm strings. It displays the date with the time portion. But APEX is ignoring the time portion in this case. My guess is a involuntary 'trunc' is taking place behind the scene, before it executes the DML to save the record in the DB.
    TO_DATE(TO_CHAR(TO_DATE(:P1_REPORT_DATE||chr(39) ||:P1_ARRIVAL_HOUR||':'||:P1_ARRIVAL_MINUTES||:P1_ARRIVAL_AMPM,'DD-MON-YYYY HH:MIPM'),'DD-MON-YYYY HH:MIPM'),'DD-MON-YYYY HH:MIPM');
    Is there a solution for this?
    I truly appreciate your help.
    Thanx
    Suma

    You can try two different ways to print your photos as a document:
    1) Download a trial version of Adobe Acrobat XI and you it as your printer.  This creates a pdf file for you and you can just view the file on your screen or print it out using your printer;
    2) Windows 7 comes with Microsoft XPS Document Writer.  You can select it as your printer and save the file as a document by giving it a name;
    Click on this this picture to get the idea:
    Good luck.

  • Pages to be printed in offset

    I made a book in Pages and now I want to have it printed in offset. Is that possible?
    Maby when I deliver it in PDF?

    There is also the issue of carrying consistent colors from one job to the next.
    Consistent colour is a product both of the calibration of the printing condition and of the correct use of the ICC profile that characterises the printing condition.
    If you cannot run your press to a consistent target, then no test chart you print is representative, and no ICC profile I build from your test charts is representative either.
    Colour management is (1) process control and (2) people control.
    Why ignore bleeds, spot colors and issues like resolution management and slugs?
    Print houses that have not invested in up-to-date plant are a problem, but then they were also a problem in the past.
    To quote Bette Midler "I've been kidnapped by KMart!"
    Well, ICC colour management has first and foremost been driven by professional photographers. The problem for professional photographers was that they could not add value by colour correction in past processes that scanned direct to CMYK with EPS DCS. For the professional photographer to add value, it is necessary that the colours she creates on the colour desktop display can be correlated to the colours that are possible in the intended printing condition, and that the printing condition behaves in a repeatable and predictable manner.
    In 1985, PostScript version 23 for the Apple LaserWriter did not support CMYK. In 1987, fifty per cent of Macintosh systems had colour displays. In 1990, PostScript level 2 supported CMYK but the colour management system in it did not support softcopy proofing on the colour desktop display, as Seybold noted. In May 1992, Primavera (Italian for 'spring', beta name for ColorSync) was previewed at the Apple World Wide Developer Conference as noted in Jonathan Seybold's review. In May 1995, ColorSync 2 Golden Master was released at the Apple World Wide Developer Conference and at DRUPA in Düsseldorf (at the same time as the first A4 automatic spectrophotomer, the GretagMacbeth SpectroScan). In 1999, a proposal to add the ICC profile for the intended printing condition in Adobe PDF was introduced. When the OutputIntent for PDF was implemented in shipping software from GretagMacbeth, Adobe and others it became possible for the studio photographer to add value by colour correcting on the display with reference to the ICC profile for the display plus the ICC profile for the editing space plus the ICC profile for the intended printing condition, and to hold the printer to a contract proof that has the printer pay if the press deviates by more than dE 3 from the FOGRA control strip on the contract proof.
    Since the ColorSync Users List opened in 1999 there have been prepress shops and press shops complaining that colour management does not work. In part their complaint is correct, but not for the reasons they advance. ICC colour management is a format for communicating (a) what colours are achievable for a given configuration and calibration of a colour device and (b) what colourants achieve those colours. In fact, a Heidelberg Speedmaster is a peripheral to the ICC profile for the state of the printing condition that the Speedmaster processes. This is why Heidelberg integrated **** in 1997 and then in 2000 integrated GretagMacbeth holographic grid spectrophotometers with optical fibre scanning across the width of the sheet in the Image Control units.
    The difficulty is that there is need of a second communication format. Apple introduced such a second communication format in ColorSync 2.5 that introduced the Video Card Gamma Tag to set the state of your colour display to the state that was characterised when you created your ICC display profile. In other words, you need a calibration/configuration management format that communicates with your colour management format. This is what job jackets, CIP, JDF and more back is about. Again, the printing architecture of QuickDraw GX had some of these ideas, and before that similar ideas about communicating device configuration was implemented in the PDD PostScript Printer Definition format.
    But if you want to understand PDF processing, you want to begin by understanding that device dependent attributes do not belong in the format. You need another format for that, a companion process format that carries the information about device states and device attributes.
    Just my ten cents,
    Henrik

    sure pretty simple.  make a backup of your current settings
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766?viewlocale=en_US
    then restore device from old backup you need pics off of
    then import pics to computer
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083
    you may need to save pics to camera roll first
    then restore the new backup and sync pics back to phone via itunes

  • Printing is offset by 1/2 "

    My 7520 all in one printer prints everything offset on the left side by 1/2 inch.  How do I fix this?

    Hi mljennin,
    Thank you for your response!
    With the fact that the printer is having the same issue while copying on it's own, I would suggest the following options:
    Take a look through this guide, An 'Out of Paper' Message Displays on the Control Panel and the All-in-One Does Not Pick Up Paper, as it will show you how to clean the rollers, etc.
    Getting Printer Updates for HP Deskjet Ink Advantage 6520 e-All-in-One and HP Photosmart 6520 and 75....
    Make sure the printer is plugged directly into the wall outlet, and not a surge protector. Issues when Connected to an Uninterruptible Power Supply/Power Strip/Surge Protector. This applies to Inkjet printers as well.
    If these options do not resolve your issue, then there is a hardware malfunction with the printer, and it will need to be replaced/upgraded depending on your warranty status. • I have Adobe X1 ver 11.0.7 installed on my iMac, when I download a .pdf and try to print it the printer preview is blank, only way is to take screen shots, is this me or an Adobe issue?

    On my iMac OS-X 10.9.3 I am able to view a downloaded .pdf in my browser , if however I want to print out the .pdf via the File tab and Print in Safari, the message comes up that Adobe either does not support this format, or it s corrupted as an attachment to an email.  I have tried saving it  to my desktop by exporting it as a .pdf, or saving it to the desktop.  In both cases when I try to open it, I get the same message.
    Found that the only way I can save the data is to take a screen shot to my desktop and then I can print it out, but cripes what a pain!
    Any suggestions would be welcome, is this me or an Adobe issue?

    If you are printing to physical printer from Safari : Use Reader print button from Reader toolbar
    If you want to save a PDF from Safari to your local : Use Reader Save button from the Reader toolbar.
    PS: if you have PDF in read mode the  hover the mouse at the bottom of the page and the floating Reader toolbar will appear.
    Please let me know if this solves your issue.

    1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve the problem. But with the aid of the test results, the solution may take a few minutes, instead of hours or days.
    Don't be put off by the complexity of these instructions. The process is much less complicated than the description. You do harder tasks with the computer all the time.
    2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. Backup is always a must, and when you're having any kind of trouble with the computer, you may be at higher than usual risk of losing data, whether you follow these instructions or not.
    There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
    3. Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. As I wrote above, it changes nothing. It doesn't send or receive any data on the network. All it does is to generate a human-readable report on the state of the computer. That report goes nowhere unless you choose to share it. If you prefer, you can act on it yourself without disclosing the contents to me or anyone else.
    You should be wondering whether you can believe me, and whether it's safe to run a program at the behest of a stranger. In general, no, it's not safe and I don't encourage it.
    In this case, however, there are a couple of ways for you to decide whether the program is safe without having to trust me. First, you can read it. Unlike an application that you download and click to run, it's transparent, so anyone with the necessary skill can verify what it does.
    You may not be able to understand the script yourself. But variations of the script have been posted on this website thousands of times over a period of years. The site is hosted by Apple, which does not allow it to be used to distribute harmful software. Any one of the millions of registered users could have read the script and raised the alarm if it was harmful. Then I would not be here now and you would not be reading this message.
    Nevertheless, if you can't satisfy yourself that these instructions are safe, don't follow them. Ask for other options.
    4. Here's a summary of what you need to do, if you choose to proceed:
    ☞ Copy a line of text in this window to the Clipboard.
    ☞ Paste into the window of another application.
    ☞ Wait for the test to run. It usually takes a few minutes.
    ☞ Paste the results, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page.
    The sequence is: copy, paste, wait, paste again. You don't need to copy a second time. Details follow.
    5. You may have started the computer in "safe" mode. Preferably, these steps should be taken in “normal” mode, under the conditions in which the problem is reproduced. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.
    6. If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you can't log in as an administrator, test as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this section doesn’t apply. Don't log in as root.
    7. The script is a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, though you may not see all of it in the browser window, and you can then copy it. If you try to select the line by dragging across the part you can see, you won't get all of it.
    Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it:

    Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
    8. Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
    ☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
    ☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
    ☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
    Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste by pressing command-V. The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
    9. If you see an error message in the Terminal window such as "Syntax error" or "Event not found," enter
    exec bash
    and press return. Then paste the script again.
    10. If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. In most cases, the difference is not important. If you don't know the password, or if you prefer not to enter it, press the key combination control-C or just press return  three times at the password prompt. Again, the script will still run.
    If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator privileges.
    11. The test may take a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, there will be nothing in the Terminal window and no indication of progress. Wait for the line
    [Process completed]
    to appear. If you don't see it within half an hour or so, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, close the Terminal window and report what happened. No harm will be done.
    12. When the test is complete, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
    At the top of the results, there will be a line that begins with the words "Start time." If you don't see that, but instead see a mass of gibberish, you didn't wait for the "Process completed" message to appear in the Terminal window. Please wait for it and try again.
    If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
    13. When you post the results, you might see an error message on the web page: "You have included content in your post that is not permitted," or "You are not authorized to post." That's a bug in the forum software. Please post the test results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.
    14. This is a public forum, and others may give you advice based on the results of the test. They speak only for themselves, and I don't necessarily agree with them.

  • Unable to order prints anymore... weird iPhoto error

    Hey there,
    I'm unable to order prints from iPhoto anymore, it started before the 8.1.1 update. When I start to upload photos to the Kodak server, after 2Mo is transmitted it bugs. In the console I have the following mysterious error :
    25/11/09 23:11:00 iPhoto[6419] PUT /Documents/49519329/image_0.jpg (FAILED), httpStatusCode:402, errorType:100, transactionState:5, txnId:A749349E-5655-4459-8EC0-E92E465EC788, auto-retries=0, manual-retries=0
    25/11/09 23:11:00 iPhoto[6419] ISCoordinator responseFromUploadFiles: error...
    MessengerContext = <ISNewMessengerContext: 0x199b9fa0>;
    Retry = YES;
    Status = ERROR;
    StatusCode = 402;
    }

    I wondered, reading the output from the Error you posted, if it was having trouble finding particular photos:
    /Documents/49519329/image_0.jpg (FAILED)
    How are you uploading to the Kodak Server? With an app, a plugin to iPhoto, some other way?
    Regards
    TD
