Printing is slow--one page at a time

USB print sharing wasn't working well in my house as I had to keep my computer on all the time so I went to a small Ethernet to USB print server for my Brother 5050 LT laser printer. it works well with all our MacS except when I print a multiple page document it prints 1 page per minute instead of the usual 10 pages. After each page it appears to stop, no blinking light, wind down and then a minute later powers up and prints the next page. The printer info window shows it hasn't sent the whole document and stays active ("spooling 4%") on until printing is done. These are very small Word documents not big PDFs so I can't image it is the network. There are no pictures or anything else. It does the same thing printing from a browser, etc. I am a teacher and need fast printing...any idea what is happening and how to fix it. Thank you in advance

It could be that there is not enough memory in the printer or the print server to hold the entire document while printing. The printer gets Postscript files, which are larger than the original document. Also, if you are doing multiple copies, if you collate the pages, that takes more memory than printing each page multiple times.

The K5400 Office Jet Pro will not print more than one at a time when I change the number of pages to print in Printing Preferences.  I have downloaded all the updates available and have tried many times.

    Hi,
The HP Deskjet 1050 All In One can perform multiple copies at a time. To perform a multiple copy, press the Copy Black or Copy Color button as many times as the copy is required. A maximum of 10 copies can be performed at a time.
Please open the link below which illustrates the same.

If the issue persists then, please perform the steps as shown below and check the copying function again.
    Steps to perform a reset.
Press the Power button ( ) to turn off the product.
NOTE: The product might not turn off after pressing the Power button. Continue to the next step regardless.
Disconnect the power cord from the rear of the product.
Disconnect the power cord from the electrical outlet.
    Wait 30 seconds.
Reconnect the power cord to the electrical outlet.
Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the product.
Press the Power button ( ) to turn on the product.
Connect the unit directly to a wall outlet.
    Check the copying function now.
I hope this resolves the issue, if the error persists then please get back to us.

  • Is there any way in Adobe Reader to limit printing to only one page at a time?

We have a large piece of internal knowhow in the form of a pdf document that we don't want users to be able to print in one go as it would risk the document leaving the premises. We are quite happy with users using print screen for single pages, but that doesn't really produce readable results.
So ideally we'd like users to be able to select print, but when they do it should only allow 'print current page' or just print the first chosen page instead of the whole selection. For instance, selecting pages 123 - 145 should only print page 123.
I've looked in to various areas already. We are delivering this document through a secured version of Adobe Reader via Citric application streaming, so are able to customise the config.js file any way we want, however I've looked through the Java Reference Guide and haven't been able to identify anything that might satisfy our requirement this.
I've also looked in to Document Actions such as "Document will print", but again (perhaps due to a personal lack of programming knowledge) am unable to find a way to fix the print option to a single page.
    Any ideas/suggestions much appreciated.
    Kind regards,
    Kaan

The sponsor is not happy for low res printing either. As an organisation we should be looking at DRM more closely, and we've added to the requirement with this problem. We are also going to look in to the option of attaching metadata and scanning that at our exit points (e-mail, printers, usb's, etc.) so that users have free reign internally but can't send sensitive documents out. Obviously it's all going to be very expensive!
    Cheers for the respones guys.

  • Acrobat 7.1.0 multipage print job goes one page at a time

This condition existed before I installed the lastest update but it has not gone away so it must be a setting. When I send a multipage document to my printer (laserjet 4000) from Acrobat Professional the printer will start up (wakeup), print one page, stop the printing process (explained below) and then restart/wakeup and print the next page. It could take 3 or 4 minutes to print a 10 page doc.
By stopping the printing process I mean the display will return to "Ready" the the printer will make that whining down sound like it is completed a print job and stop for 10 seconds or so. It then starts all over.
When I print from any other program the printer starts up and stays running until the print job is complete even if it is 50 pages or so.
    Any thoughts?????
    Thank you in advance!!

Many different factors could be causing this, but there's no way to tell from this end what it could be.
The first thing I always recommend is to check for driver updates online. Even if a newer version doesn't exist, you should download and reinstall the printer driver. Never hurts to do that, and sometimes it solves the problem... especially in cases like yours, where the printer model is old but the software you're working with has continued to be updated. HP seems to have the most trouble across different applications; these printers never seem to be fully compatible with all new software versions, no matter what software it is. Seems like there's always something that doesn't work quite right.
Assuming you've done that and it didn't help, next look at what you're printing.
Is the PDF heavy in graphics? How large are the graphics---what resolution are they and if in color, what color format (I use the demo version of Quite a Box of Tricks plug-in for this: http://www.quite.com/box/)? At what resolution are you printing? Do the images contain transparencies?
Have you (or whoever creates the PDFs) changed any color management options? What happens if you use the Quite plug-in to convert colors to greyscale? (The demo version will place an X over the page but you'll at least be able to tell whether it makes a difference.)
What is the PDF file size? Have you tried optimizing the PDF before printing?
All printers and printer drivers are different, giving different options in the Print dialog, so I can't give you anything very specific to look at there... but look for your print quality option. Is it set to "high" (or "best" or whatever your printer calls it)? If so, change it to normal quality and see if that speeds things up.
Those are just some things off the top of my head that you might want to look at. Please report back with your results.

  • HP 1012 PRINTER - ONLY FEEDING ONE PAGE AT A TIME

Have a 1012.  Been working fine until yesterday.  Now it will only feed paper manually.   Have to hit green button with each page of document.   Settings seem to be fine.   Auto Feed setting for paper.  Any ideas?

This seems to be a commercial product. For the best chance at finding a solution I would suggest posting in the forum for HP Business Support!

  • Can only print one page at a time

    Using Adobe Reader 9.4.2
    Operating system Arch Linux
    Printer Brother DCP-115C
When trying to print more than one page at a time in a PDF document,
Adobe Reader appears to create the print
the print job appears in my print queue
the printer says 'Receiving Data', but only momentarily
    the printer resumes 'normal' status
the printer does not print anything
It is as if there is very little data actually sent to the printer, even though the print job appears to be 254k in size
When I try to print one page at a time from a PDF document
Adobe Reader appears to create the print
the print job appears in my print queue
the printer says 'Receiving Data' for several seconds
    the printer prints the page
    no problem
It seems to me that Adobe is creating a print job (for multiple pages) that the printer either does not understand, or the printer believes that there is nothing to print.
I am able to print everything that I need to, but only one page at a time!
Does anyone else experience this problem? Do you know how to overcome this?

You can use printPages(1, 5), however I need to know how you print current page.

  • How do I print one page at a time for a photobook .pse project?

I am trying to print a photobook project one page at a time as I am using double sided paper that I need to turn over.  One other project I did asked me if I wanted both sides and would I do the turning myself, but this one doesn't.  I also wanted no border on the prints and it came out with a border.  It is also frustrating to have to wait for it to load 75 pages and then it prints them back to front.  Is this PSE or the printer software?

Yes, you can print one page one at time as you want .
In print dialog, select other pages and click on remove button.(refer to screenshot).
For border click on more options and ensure check box is not selected ( refer to screenshot)

  • Set document to be seen one page at a time but print four to a page?

I would like to create a pdf (from a PowerPoint presentation) so that when it is viewed on the web it is seen one page at a time but when it is printed it prints four to a page. It is possible to put that in pdf document settings or do I have to rely on users to make the four to a page choice themselves when they print?

File > Properties > Initial View
You can set the initial view
From the Advanced tab in the Properties you can set some Printing Defaults, but in AA9 Pro, I do not see Tiling as an option. (I believe the powers that be at Adobe thought it best to re-name this feature Banner in AA10. Perhaps it's Poster, I've only seen screen shots of AA10 Print dialog. They've sucessfully dumbed it all down in keeping with Microsoft's current philosophies. Increase font size should soon enough be replaced with "Grow Font")

I recently acquired a second hand Laserjet 2100 Series. Installation was fine but it will only print one page at a time, I have to keep pressing the 'Go' button, which is very frustrating. • InDesign CS5 only prints one page at a time.

InDesign CS5 only prints one page at a time. No multiple copies. Each page in a document has to be printed one at a time. I didn't have this problem with any version before this. No matter what I do, change settings, etc. I still have the same outcome. How do I work around this problem so I can print a 5 copies of a 3 page document without having to do each copy of each page one at a time.

Sounds like a printer driver issue. Can you export to PDF and print that correctly?
