Printing issue: Server-error service unavailable

Help: It used to work but I suddenly am unable to print, using my intel (early 2006) iMac to an Epson Stylus CX 3200 ... I keep getting a "An error occurred while trying to add the selected printer. server-error-service unavailable. When I go to File > Print, it now says "No printer selected" ... I then go to Print/Fax, add printer, the Stylus shows up, but it will not let me add the printer. I am able to use the Epson printer utility from the computer to cue up the printer to run a head cleaning test...so the iMac is communicating with the printer. Any ideas? Many thanks.

This is great if you happen to be lucky enough to
be running 10.4 already. If you're a poor sod still
running 10.3.9, you're out of luck.
Can someone at Apple please package up a shell script
that will achieve the same effect as "reset printing
system" on 10.3.9? By searching on the forums, I find
lots of other folks besides me (well, it's my Dad really)
who have this exact problem after the latest security
update.

Paul

  • Server-error-service-unavailable hp printer

"Server-error-service-unavailable" is what I have been seeing all day. My hp officejet 5750 was working fine...don't know what happened??? All of a sudden it does not want to work. Tried everything, uninstall/drivers, etc. It looks like the software is installed, fax test is good. I can make copies, but why can't I print items from the computer??? I need help! Thank you!

Since I had heard about this problem (perhaps CUPS related reset)
and not experienced it - yet- I thought to search for it. I will have
to be using an HP printer with OS X 10.4.11 on my other Mac at
a second location, and so the resulting link is worth a close look:
CUPS printer error reset Mac OS X - google search
    http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=CUPSprinter+error+reset+Mac+OS+X&btnG=GoogleSearch
There are results relating to older and newer OS X systems,
and the printer error also has an error code in some. One
with some ideas has this long URL as well as a long title:
HP Printers - Mac OS: "server-error-service-unavailable" or error "1282" message when adding a printer in OS X...
    http://slayo.com/hp-printers-mac-os-server-error-service-unavailable-or-error-12 82-message-when-adding-a-printer-in-mac-os-x/
Hopefully these help, and there are others among the top
10 results worth a look, too. Including support docs.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • Printer Error server-error-service-unavailable

Im currently getting the errpr msg server-error-service-unavailable when im trying to connect to a printer. I have found out how to over come this problem by resetting the printer.
Reset Printing System feature, follow these steps:
In the Finder, choose Utilities from the Go menu.
    Open Printer Setup Utility.
From the Printer Setup Utility menu, choose Reset Printing System.
    Click Reset.
My problem now is when i reboot or shut down my machine ect, and then want to print some thing out all the printers are lost again. I then have to reset them as well as adding them again due to the same error coming back. Does any one have an idea why the printers would keep going because of a reboot or shut down? I have the latest drivers installed for the printers in use as well as the latest OS.

    Hi aychekay
    Try following:
    - Add a TimeStamp Datatype Column to the table on the SQL Server
    - Rebind the tables into your database
    - Try your code again
You never should run an Access Application against an SQL Server in readwrite mode without having TimeStamp datatype columns in your tables. Already for performance reasons this is a must and also, if you have datetime datatype fields on
the SQL Server that are not exclusively maintained by Access, as the SQL Server may add miliseconds when writing the data. Same for Single precision datatypes, that may be rounded until you get the result back from the server. If you have a Timestamp datatype
column in your table then Access is sure the record wasn't changed in the meantime and will not recheck the received record again against the database for changes in one of it's fields.

This problem didn't go away yet. I'm having it too in Access 2007 (SP2 not installed yet) with a SQL Server 2008 Express backend. I'm sure my code is not reference any form controls or other object references. Access just complains if you try to run an Execute
with "DELETE" on a table that has an identity column. I've resorted to deleting using a DAO recordset and loop instead for now.
I actually started out using MySQL with MySQL's ODBC drivers and my statement worked fine. Only when I migrated to SQL Server did I start to have this problem.
    Just sayin...

  • Server-Error-service-unavailable message

I get the message "server-error-service-unavailable" when I try to add my HP Color inkjet CP1700 to the printers server (Aplications>Utilities) of the MacOS X Tiger. When I order a test from the HP Aplication is runnig well, but I can't print from any other aplication. The printer is connected directly to the G4 by a USB cable. I install a new router last saturday (via LAN for the G4 and wireless for the iBook) but I didn't use the printer since that day; can this create some kind of problem?. Can anybody help me?
    Sorry for my english...
    Muchas gracias

hi. followed instructions on Apple support website. reset printing system. still gettting error message. computer sees my printers, but will not let me add. sudden problem. everything worked fine a few days ago.

  • Deleted Printers & server-error-service-unavailable error

If anyone is having trouble with this after updating to OS X 10.4.8. I updated to 10.4.8 on 5 different macs and every single one of them had this problem. This might have been discussed here before, but I thought I should make it known along with the solution to the problem. Here goes.
You could waste your time going through repairing permissions and trying to delete and create folders using Apple's method. None of them work at all, but it does have something to do with CUPS. The best solution is to just go here, download the new stable CUPS version, and install. This will fix the problem completely. Your printers will come back along with their respected spools. Make sure you have access to an admin account before doing so. Otherwise bug your system admin to do it for you. No UNIX commands to fool with, no BS. Just a simple install. You don't even need to reboot. Just thought I'd let everyone know.

BLESS YOUR BUNS!!! Finally I'm making some progress with CUPS reinstall.
Discovered this morning I had no printers on Intel Mac after update. Already tried all of Apple's solutions before I found your post. No go. Even lost Adobe PDF printer. Could not re-add any printers, either, due to error message.
Now, at least, I'm able to add again. Was able to print via drag-and-drop file from desktop onto queue. Can print from browser.
Do not know how to add Adobe PDF as printer again (Distiller). May need re-install from CDs?
Still cannot print from InDesign CS2. Print window does not ever open. However, CAN print from Illustrator, which I thought would use same print protocol/engine/whatever as InDesign. Apparently NOT...
    What the... ?!?

So for some reason I've now suddenly got a dependency issue with Ruby. I have no idea how this occurred because I haven't installed anything other than official updates.
I've tried wayne58's suggestion to no avail.
I urgently need my Wiki back!!!

Weird thing is... I have no idea how rack 1.4.1 got installed and by whom. In any case, uninstalling it and reinstalling 1.2.1 solved the problem.

  • Printing issues with 10.4.9

For those of us with Printing problems with 10.4.9 (or earlier in my case) I found two links that helped me with this specific problem. http://www.macfixit.com/article.php?story=20070314095347742 and http://www.macfixit.com/article.php?story=2007031314014830.
    What worked for me is:
I redownloaded cups 1.2.8 through the link in the first article, (cups is an independant UNIX printing system Apple uses- its site is not intuitive looking but it will download itself automatically at the link in the first article). I had already disconnected my printer and turned it off, and deleted the printer via System Preferences/Print and Fax/-, I also deleted the preference files noted in the second article listed above (at least those that were located where described). Then I restarted my Mac, reattached the USB printer and turned the printer back on, readded the printer in the printer Set Up utility via System Prefereneces/Print and Fax/ + and restarted my Mac again.
I can now print on my HP printer. I could have been more incremental to see what minimally had to be done but it worked. I still have a problem with printer sharing on this G5 though.

I think Matt is being a little bit alarmist. Yes, it's generally a good idea to avoid messing with low-level System stuff, and CUPS is somewhat low level. But, my experience (and I'm not an overly technical sort of person) was a positive one. I had a printing problem that actually goes back to 10.4.7 (.6?). The short answer to what solved my problem is uninstalling and then reinstalling Gutenprint (http://gimp-print.sourceforge.net/MacOSX.php3) and installing the latest CUPS software (http://www.cups.org/software.php). Get the .dmg file for CUPS 1.2.10, unless you know how to compile the bleeding edge 1.3 version.
If you want the long answer of how I solved my recent printing troubles, read on.
I live in Japan, so when I bought a new printer (Epson PM-G730) some months ago, all the software was in Japanese and some things displayed as total gibberish. Also, because it was a new model, there were no built-in drivers included in OS X. After a lot of trouble with CUPS not starting automatically, and with Printer Setup Utility not being able to add the printer, I decided to download and install Gutenprint and CUPS from their websites. Then I had printing, but I had to manually start the printer spool from a browser. Troublesome, but workable. The biggest problem was that my wife would always forget how to do this, so she'd have to call me almost every time she wanted to print something. Not that it was difficult (Open a browser window, and two clicks).
When I updated to 10.4.9, I could no longer start the printer from the browser (localhost xxx not found, or something like that). I tried using Printer Setup Utility, but got the same error as I had when I first got this printer (server-error-service-unavailable). I soon decided that a reinstall of Gutenprint and CUPS was in order (I didn't want to have to go back to 10.4.8), and mirabile dictu, it not only worked, I now have normal printing functionality, no need to start CUPS from my browser. So, it's all good.
In fine, try a clean install of Gutenprint and CUPS and good luck.

  • "unable to get printer status" and "server-error-not-accepting-jobs"

I've got an Intel Mac Pro with Tiger. When I accepted the latest update from Apple, I lost all my defined printers! I've re-added a local USB printer and a networked Laserjet - fine. But I also added a Phaser 850 color printer (networked) which used to work fine. It connects ok, and opens the printer queue window, but when it tries to print, it says "Unable to get printer status (server-error-not-accepting-jobs". The queue stays active (not stopped) but the jobs don't move. I've tried deleting the printer and re-making it - same deal. What's going on?

when a remove few unions just use 32 union then it work like charm.
pls throw some light on this.
thanksYes, first option is to create view. If it's not possible (you want to use apex session state in aueryetc.) then change report type as "PL/SQL function returning SQL" and create function in DB.
