Printing issues from 10.3.9 using Xserve 10.4.11

We have 2 Xserves (1 G5 and 1 Intel). Both of them are running 10.4.11 with all updates installed. The printers are managed from the server for students. Students use eMacs and iBooks that have 10.3.9. Sometimes when students print from a 10.3.9 machine, it won't let them. For example, we have Microsoft Office X with the latest updates and it will say at the bottom of Word connecting to the printer. When this has happened, I have tried to open up Apple's text editor, but when I click on file print, nothing happens at all (so it's not related just to Microsoft). I have found that usually if you login (as a student) and then wait to print for 15 minutes or more, sometimes the students can print right away. Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this or how I could find out what is causing this to resolve it?
Thank you in advance.

1. It isn't. Legally you have to buy another copy of 10.4 to install Tiger on your iMac. There's a chance the iBook disc won't even let you install on the iMac though.
2. The advantage would be less to download to update to 10.4.3.

  • My iMac is printing duplexed documents on a wirelessly connected Epson printer extremely slowly (minutes), but prints fast from and IOS device using AirPrint.  Settings don't offer any help.  Can anyone advise, please?

I have a one-year old (intel) iMac, now running on Mountain Lion.  I have a wireless network with an Epson Photo Stylus PX830FWD printer which has an auto-duplexer.  My problem is that when I print a two-sided document, the print takes minutes rather than seconds.  It prints at normal speed if I use the print facility on my iPad or iPhone (AirPrint), which suggests that the Mac settings are at fault.  I have been through all the settings on System Preferences that I can find, but nothing makes any difference.
I didn't notice it prining at slow speed on Snow Leopard or Lion OSX!
    Any suggestions, please?

I just figured out the print quality issue for my wife with her new iMac and new printer.
She replaced both at once and she couldn't understand why her Artisan 730 was lower quality then her Epson R280 when they had the same specs.
Turns out the newer printer had the option to connect via wifi which we used during setup.
The driver options are completely different depending on how you connect.
Once I connected via USB the correct options were available and the print quality was better.
Looking at the R2400 it dies not have wifi, but while researching the problem for my wife someone esle was having an issue updating to the latest printer driver.
If you go into the print utility from the Printer and Scanner system preference and under the general tab you should have driver 5.5.
One user had to delete the old printer driver before Software Update loaded the newer printer driver.

On my MacBook Pro (w Snow Leopard) I always had to reconnect my wifi at home when it woke up. I upgraded my router from an old Netgear to a newer N D-Link and stopped having to do that.
I would be surprised you would have that problem with an Airport Extreme, you might check to see if there is a firmware update for it.

  • Printing Issue from ITS with a Reverse Proxy Configured

    Hi experts,
We have an enterprise portal landscape which  can be accessed from the internet. The URLs are mapped using apache server as a reverse proxy. Also, we have configured the reverse proxy settings for accessing R/3 systems.
When the users try to take the print out from the ITS Web GUI accessed through the enterprise portal, the page redirects itself to an only internally resolvable host name of the R/3 ITS.
Due to this issue, users are not able to take prints from internet.
I would like to know if there is any way by which i can change this to my externally resolvable reverse proxy host address, which in turn can be mapped internally to the original host name at the reverse proxy level.
Can any one help me out in this?
    Thanks a lot

  • Printing Issue from Spool

    Hi All,
I have created a Invoice Form (ADOBE) which generates multiple documents in single output. I have done this by calling the generated FM inside a loop. The users scheduled the Invoice form as a background job and Now it has an output of one spool with 2500 Invoice forms.
I tried to print all the forms together from the spool, but it only prints the first one. Is there any way we can print all the documents in the spool in single shot...
    Regards,
    Mohammed Shukoor.

    Hi,
You can split the spool request by number of pages, for example some times printer will not have the buffer to print all at a time, so we can print 500 (As per your requirement) initially then next 500 pages and so on. In order to do this first find out number of pages in the spool by using the FM RSPO_GET_PAGES_SPOOLJOB, then as per the pages obtained, pass the first page (for Example 1) and last page numbers(for example 500) to the FM RSPO_OUTPUT_SPOOL_REQUEST. Then check the status of the pages means whether printing is completed or not by using the FM EFG_SPOOL_OUTPUT_STATUS_CHECK. If the printing is completed then again pass the first page and last page parametes as ( for example 501) and last page number as (for example 1000). Else in the above function module you have wait time you can reduce the wait time till all the pages are printed.
    Thanks,

  • HT1688 How do you print documents from an ipad one using an iphone?

I want to be able to print from my ipad one using my hot spot through my iphone.  Is this possible?

No. Or, to be more accurate, yes, but it's not going to be worth the hassle. By the time you monkey around with all of that, you could have just purchased an AirPrint compatible printer and had done with it.

  • Printing issues from InDesign CS4 pdf file

    Good morning,
Could you help explain and possibly resolve an issue I'm having with an InDesign CS4 pdf file where the text and image drop shadows (40%) are printing as solid black blocked shapes from a large format printer. The file encompasses 1 overall image, 1 image with drop shadow, 3 text frames with drop shadow effect applied to the text and 1 group set of simple rectangular and ellipse objects with a glow.
My colleagues in graduate school experienced the same with their files and the output bureau's rasterized the pdf file in Photoshop where it printed out with good resolution. Shouldn't this be resolved first in InDesign rather than rasterizing the file?
I appreciate any help and insight you could offer myself and my colleagues.
    Thank you, Kathryn

The printing service uses Acrobat 8 Pro and HP large format printer. My InDesign CS4 document is in the color mode of RGB and color type as Process. I saved it as a pdf file using the standard settings as follows: Preset: High Quality Print, Standard: None and Compatibility: Acrobat 4 (PDF 1.3). Are there options I should be paying more attention to when creating the PDF file? Also, I was reading up on Peter Spier's response links.
This brings me to the next question...I'm creating a photo book for grad school with approximately 40 pages of images (RGB, 300dpi) with feathered drop shadows. What would be the best settings to use when exporting as a pdf file for printing services?
    Thank you for your help.
    Kathryn

  • Can no longer print anything from a website when using FireFox. Have updated FF but no other programs added or changed. Get a message "save file as *.xps"

When I try to print, I get a message to save file as *.xps file, but Mozilla stops responding when I try that. Can still print from other browsers.

    Hello there,
My name is Luke and i would be happy to assist you with this issue. The reason you are getting this is because your computer's default printer is set to Microsoft XPS Document Writer. If you go to your computer's printer settings and set your favourite printer as the default one this problem will be fixed. If there are any more questions please feel free to reply to me.
    Thank you!

  • Problems printing transperencies from acrobat pro 9 using HP laserjet 2605 dn

    Hello:
I have been "printing" PDF's from an indesign CS4 document to acrobat 9 pro (both are part of cs4 master collection). The in-design documents include photoshop cs4 documents with transparencies which have been created by processing images using a third party filter (on-one mask pro 4.1). The PDF's look fine (they maintain the transparencies as they should), but when I try printing to my HP color laserjet I have problems -- a background shows up which is the shape of the photoshop document (eg, it loses its transparency).
is there any fix or workaround for this. In have played with lots of options for both the indesign document, the PDF document, and the HP laserjet printer, but nothing seems to help. the PDF always looks fine and the printed document always loses the transparency.
    Any thoughts would be apprecaited.
    Thank you.

"IF" You are using, OSX.4.11 Try locating , downloading, installing AppleJack (there currently isn't a version for Leopard or Snow Leopard). The to Run Restart holding down the Command-S keys. This put you in Single User Mode (Raw UNIX).
when a screen full of print scrolls through and your left with a Blink Cursor, Type applejack.
simply follow directions. go by the numbers follow them in order they are given.
Now items 3&4 you have to do once for your system, and once for each User Account (name you gave computer when setting up example you gave name as John Smith name for user account would be johnsmith).
Once completed (1-5)  hit return then choose Reboot or Shutdown.
In your case choose r and then hit return.
when it restarts wait, a whole bunch of cache files were dumped. You may even see the "dreaded "Blue screen for a little bit, and bits and piece of the desktop will appear until completely rebuilt.
    After rebuilt Try printing.
If that doesn't work. Report back and maybe someone else can come up with an idea.

  • Why can't I print anything from my e-mail using Firefox

I am using a HP 8180 All-in-One printer when I try to print something It comes up with a MY Documents and asks me to name it. When I do it doesn't print anyway. Please help if you can!

    Hi swenzel,
Can you be a little more descriptive of the problem? You say you "cannot copy it" but don't give any details. There are several methods for copying text like ''Ctrl + C'', right click ''copy'', ''Edit > Copy'' etc. Which method are you trying? When you do try, what happens? Is the option not there? Does the text just not appear when you try to paste it? We need more details to really be of use.
Just a guess, but you might want to try starting Firefox in [[Safe Mode]]. If you don't have the issue while all of your add-ons, extensions, and themes are disabled, you can try adding them back in one by one until you find the culprit. You should look at the [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Troubleshooting-extensions-themes Extensions and Themes troubleshooting guide ] and the [[Troubleshooting plugins]] article as well.
    Hopefully this helps!

  • Printing issues from XP to Mac

    Hi
I am trying to print from pc laptop running XP Home to shared printer on iMac, running 10.4.5. I can not get it to work. When I run the Bonjour wizard it finds the printer, Epson R300, no problem. Set up seems fine. I print and it certainly gets sent somewhere - I can even see the log on the mac receiving it - it says POST so assume it is trying to forward the print correctly - but nothing happens. No error on the printer either.
    Any ideas?

ok. sorted it. Just in case anyone else made this stupid error. I was selecting the epson driver and not the generic postscript. Not clear why it uses a generic postscript driver but it works. Perhaps someone could explain it to me?

  • Printing issue from Indesign CS 5.5

    Hello,
I have several users using Indesgn CS5.5 on Windows XP machines.  They are all printing to the same printer and the printer has the same name (mapped locally to the machines).  Once someone opens the Indesign file and edits the file, the others are no longer able to print the file.  They go in and print it and it claims that it was sent, but the printer never shows any activity of the print job coming in.

This sounds more like some type of network issue than an InDesing problem...

  • HT2494 Hi there my name is Peter i have a Mac OS X processor 2.66 GHz Intel Core i5.I would like to know if i could put my printer 25" from my computer and use a cable to join them, will this length of cable effect my Mac.

Hi there, can i use a 25" printer cable with my computer. I have wireless internet but my mac will not recognize it since i changed routers with shaw.

That should not be a problem. I would see if Shaw can't help you with your wireless. I'm on Shaw cable using their router, and my wireless works perfectly.
One thing you might try after changing a router:
Disconnect power from the modem, router, and computer. Wait at least one minute. Then reconnect power in this order:
Modem. Wait until the status lights show communication with the host.
Router. Wait until status lights show communication with the modem.
Computer. Check that Network preferences are configured for DHCP, and it has a valid IP address.

  • I am unable to print (any website) from the latest Firefox, but print fine from Internet Explorer. Using Windows Vista on a desktop machine.

printer advances page and spits it out with either nothing or a single garbled line printed on it instead of a whole web page. This is independent of which web site and even happens with web sites that have a specific PRINT or PRINTER FRIENDLY VERSION button. Printing is fine from Internet Explorer. Unsure about Chrome. Printing from Firefox worked fine until I downloaded newest version. Operating system is Windows Vista on a 64 bit desktop computer.

Try the '''reset''' described here: <br />
