Printing 'ledger' is grayed out

I found this problem in a couple of archived discussions, but I couldn't find an answer. I recently had my work computer upgraded from an old imac to a macbook with snowleopard. Everyone in the office is able to use the printer from a shared network, and so far, I have had no problems printing things with my new laptop... However, I can no longer select the 'Ledger' option (11x17), even though the printer has ledger printing capabilities. When I click the dropdown in the printer settings, the ledger option is simply grayed out. I used to be able to print the ledger size from my old computer, so I don't think it's the printer. Also, other people in the office don't seem to have this problem.
After asking around, I discovered that everyone in the office who has a destop imac (regardless of operating system) can select the ledger size. But those of us with macbooks can only see the grayed out option. So I don't think it's an operating system issue (most all of us have snow leopard) and I don't think it's the printer. It's has something to do with the fact that we have laptops. But this doesn't really make sense to me.
Is there anyway... maybe it's a driver issue... I make this work? It's going become incredibly annoying to ask my coworkers to help me print everytime I need to select this option.

Perhaps you (and the other MacBook users) have a different version of the printer driver installed?
In your home directory, select Library, Printers folder, the appropriate printer driver, and Get Info to see information similar to this. Check the Created date and Version on both your computer and the iMacs that do not have a problem.
Another possibility is some limitation being imposed by the application program because the physical screen resolution of your 13" MacBook (1280x800) is considerably smaller than either iMac 21" (1920x1080) or 27" (2560x1440) screen size.

Connected wirelessly to Canon printer MX340. Duplex printing option is grayed out for me but not on my daughter's non-Mac laptop or husband's PC which is connected to the printer. Mine has two-sided option available at the Apple store. Any ideas?

We use a Canon MX340 series printer/fax/scanner. My husband has his PC hooked to it and my daughter prints wirelessly from it with no problem with her non-Mac laptop. I have trouble printing. Often it does not print and I have to delete the job from the queue. Other times it will print OK but two-sided printing is always grayed out in my printing options. When I took it to the Apple store and printed on their network (selecting their printer) the two-sided option was available. Makes me think the printer is set up wrong, but I am not certain. A fw times at home when trying to print I got an error message about incompatible fonts, but it printed anyway after deleting the job and starting over. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks

OK, just an update.
Two years into this, I still find I can only do full duplex printing by using Windows XP running inside of VMWare. I've had occasional, ephemeral luck with duplex printing, but nothing long lasting.
I've tried this in Tiger and Leopard (now at 10.5.6), and I've had this issue with Canon printers MP780 iP4300 and MP610, direct connected to my Core2Duo 17" MBP. I also have this issue when printing over a network, but that's a much harder problem to solve.
Currently, this is my #1 most pressing issue for my Mac, because not being able to print from a computer when you print a lot is a really big drag, and using VMWare all the time is also a really big drag. Other people posting seem to be able to print in Duplex using the very same printers. What could be wrong with my MBP? I see the duplex box option, but most of the time it's grayed out as if my printer doesn't support duplex.
I've tried direct selecting printer drivers from the system preferences, but nothing seems to have an effect. And this is off of a clean Leopard install.
My wife now has similar problems with her new MBP - the Canon print drivers (CUSP & non CUSP) aren't allowing the Duplex box to be checked.
I am willing to pay good money to anyone who thinks they can fix this problem.

Print frames is grayed out, how can I print only one GMAIL frame ?

I would like to print the contents of a mail in gmail, and not everything around it.
Using print frames does not seem to work, it is grayed out.
Is there a solution for this ?
I read somewhere that sometimes something that looks like a frame is not really a frame.
The mail content 'frame' can be scrolled up and down, while the left (gmail info frame) and
right (adverts) remain in place.

Are you printing through Preview? When Firefox 29 was released some users noted that printing frames did not work if you were accessing Print through Preview. Instead, you had to access the Print dialog directly from the page, for example, by pressing Ctrl+p.
For better results, though, could I suggest using the print-formatted version of the message? Above the message you should find a printer icon that will pop up a cleanly formatted version of the message (by default, the new window is diverted to a new tab).

Reader x printing issue with grayed out collate

Since we have deployed Reader X we have had issues with bulk printing of the same document. The option to collate is grayed out. If you want to print 50 copies of a pdf then you type the number in the field the collate is grayed out. There is a work around that you then click the up or down arrow and this makes collate available but you should not have to do this.
When is the new service pack/ fix available?

I have checked all of the typical page setting and I am still having the
same problem. I first started having the problem with my network printer when I upgraded to a Windows
7 (64 bit) but was using Reader 9. I upgraded the Reader hoping to eliminate the problem.
There are also times when the pdf won't print at all and I get an error message OFFENDING COMMAND: pscript_WinNT_compa.
I print a lot of pdfs so this is very frustrating.

Print toolbar icon grayed out

my pring toolbar icon is grayed out, i cannot click on it to print out off pages. is there anyway to make this button work?

This was fixed with the v 1.0.1 update not long after the initial release. The current version is 1.0.2. If you have not moved the iWork folder containing the Pages application from your Applications folder, Software Update should let you know there is an update available.
If you are running version 1.0.1/2, the non-active icon might be due to not having a printer set up. I don't know for sure, but it is a possibility.

Print Settings--Photo Grayed-out

Hi all,
Just updated to Tiger and this morning tried to print a photo for the wife on my trusty MFC-210C multifunction printer. Heretofore have been able to get lovely photo-quality prints out of it using Panther, but to my surprise, the 'Print Settings' won't let me click on 'Photo' or 'Glossy,' only 'Fine.' The pics come out grainy and horrible.
Have updated the driver and re-added the printer to no avail.
I see some other folks have had this problem, but have read no answers for it yet. Is this an evil plot to make us buy iLife and purchase all our photos through iPhoto? Or am I just an insufficient nerd?
All help much appreciated.

Is your Photoshop CS5 updated to 12.1?
Are you on Yosemite 10.10.1 or Yosemite 10.10.2?
Did you apply the recent Epson software 2.1.9 update?
What type of file is it (file format)? What bit depth and what color space?

Printing with Black Cartridge Only option grayed out: Officejet 6000

Trying to print a black and white photo in gray scale using only the black ink cartridge, unfortunately that option is grayed out. Is there some setting that has to be chosen first before black cartridge only option becomes available?
I feel like I've tried just about every combination, but maybe I'm missing some minuscule, unintuitive step.

Nope, its not a bug. When you choose borderless the print region actually becomes bigger than the page to make sure there are no white gaps. The ink that does not make it to the page is caught in a trough filled with foam just below the print zone.
The color ink is a dye ink (like food coloring). The black ink is a pigment ink - like carbon dust suspended in water. When it is over-sprayed in the trough it piles up until the pile of pigment starts dragging and smearing on the back of every subsequent page! Not good, so we do not allow the black cartridge to print when set to borderless.

I just added the optional 3rd tray to the bottom of my LASERJET 2200d. I did a print test directly from the printer and it printed a copy from that tray without a problem. But when I try to print from an application, tray 3 cannot be selected in the print box and is grayed out. Anyone?

Have you gone into Printer Center/Printer Setup Utility, click on your printer and click on the Utility button? Sometimes that has extra features that you can turn on. Maybe you need to tell the software side that the tray has been added to the printer.

Lightroom print mode and Color mode grayed out

I see you haven't gotten much input so far from the Mac experts...
As a Windows user without an Epson printer myself, I can't comment on why you might have color problems under the covers where the software doesn't seem to be following the chosen settings. However, perhaps I can get you thinking about how to further diagnose the problem...
The obvious thing I see is that you've chosen "Photoshop Manages Colors" in the main dialog, which implies your intent is to shut off color-management in the printer driver itself. So to me the graying out of those settings in this case seems to make sense.
Have you tried a test print using the "Printer Manages Colors" setting?
Also, to try to test whether color-management isn't being turned off in the printer (regardless of what the grayed-out settings show), do you see any improvement if you use "Photoshop Manages Colors" but choose a standard profile, such as sRGB IEC61966-2.1 for the Printer Profile setting?

9500 Mark II Printer and Photoshop (Mac) Quality and Media Grayed Out

I have a PIXMA 9500 Mark II. I am using the printer on an iMac. In Photoshop, when I choose Quality and Media, the area to choose paper type and tray are grayed out. It work fine in Safari.
I have spoken to Canon, Apple and Adobe and no one seems to be able to get it to work. It works in Safari.
Any suggestions?

Unfortunately, if you continue to have difficulties with accessing the printer settings, we would have to advise that you use our Easy PhotoPrint Pro plugin with Photoshop or print the image using a different program.
The Easy PhotoPrint Pro plugin can be downloaded from our website and is compatible with most versions of Photoshop. Once installed, you can access the plugin from the File/Automate menu of the program.

"Add New Printer" can't finish setup...grayed out

Can anyone please help me with this?
I have a Brother MFC-290c multifunction USB'ed into my Extreme Gigabit. It shows up there in Airport Utility.
Upon printer setup in the Preferences Pane I click the + symbol to add a new printer. The Brother shows up at that point and where it is connected but the "Add" button is grayed out as though I need to select a driver as well yet there is no driver suitable in the drop down list. Do I need to install my Brother driver onto my Powerbook before this will work?
The setup guide makes no mention of this in the section on adding a printer.

Congratulations, you have just entered the crappy side of Apple, Leopard. I have the same problem with my HP 5510 attached to my Extreme 802.11n. It works great form my little powerbook running Tiger (the best OS I have ever used), but me and my wife just bought new Macs and of course both have leopard and neither will print. We have the same no river in list issue. I have spent countless hours trying to fix personally and with both Apple and HP. Both sugest that I spent even more money to purchase a new Printer that will work. Yeah so it will no longer work when Sow leopard comes out... Thanks Apple/HP...

Why under print settings, media type, CD/DVD is grayed out? I cannot print on the DVD directly

I have Photoshop Elements 6. Trying to print pictures on DVD. But under the Media options for printing the CD/DVD option is grayed out so I cannot click on it? any ideas?

Are you tyring to write your photo files to a DVD ?
Or are you trying to print to a paper label on a DVD disc?
Also, I suggest that you describe the process that you are attempting (like which menu commands or buttons you used).

The 'Get Information' button in my printer driver dialog is grayed out. This happened when I upgraded my mac (and macbook). Can't find any help anywhere.

I recently upgraded both my imac and macbook pro to a new mac mini and macbook air. I have a networked (via airport extreme) canon ipf6100 printer that had been working great from my older computers (all running current mountain lion). The new computer's printer driver setups went well and the dialog says its online and ready. The problem is the 'Get Information' button in the 'Main' driver panel is grayed out. The driver cannot read the printer's configuration (i.e. roll or sheet paper) and therefore cannot print correctly. I have tried re-installing the driver (current one from Canon's website) and have tried connecting the printer to USB directly with the same result. I have not been able to find any help on this anywhere. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

if you hold option and click the "-" tab it resets the printing system.

Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions.
Any devices that previously appeared in your Printer List and Fax List will need to be added again after resetting the printing system.
