Printing list of drive contents

How can I print out the list of folders names contained in an external drive? Copy and paste to a file folder won't work, because it wants to copy the contents of all the folders. i just want the list of folders for ID purposes.

This way I mentioned I can only have one level listing, if I use the List View I can expand folders and also have it's contents listed (this handle only copy names). But using this I miss two features, manage Finder to expand all folders in List View; and have a paste with hierarchical layout, as this way I get contents of expanded folders placed in first position of new lines just like parent folder.
Do you have a hint about any of these?

I have a Mac G4 (yes) with Tiger 10.4.11 (yes still) and I have two backup drives.... They should be evenly "filled" but there is over 26 GB difference so that one is going to be running out of space sooner than I want it to. I have 100's of files... I need some program that works under Tiger to either:
1. Print the contents of the HDD (the file names/sizes, etc---there is something that does this in Windows, why not Mac?).
or
2. A program that compares the contents automatically between the two HDD's. Again I have used one on PC's but its really old and company no longer makes it for PC's. Is there one for Mac? I have no idea how to express it to look it up. (I never have both of the HDD's all hooked up by Firewire at same time---afraid of overloading old Mac).... so only if there is a program that does this working under Tiger would I then come back here to ask a question for how to get the two drives hooked up to compare the contents and find out what is taking up extra space.
Mostly the drives have iPhoto items in it so it could be simply a double-entered iPhoto Roll/Album---but never thinking I'd have to compare them---most of the titles begin the same exact way---too difficult to go over unless I can cross off a printed sheet to compare the two drives---or have a computer do that for me.
Any suggestions?

Explaining a bit more----I'm using a "PC" to write these questions (yes I have a bunch more) about the old Tiger Mac 10.4.11 G4.
I only have working TenFourFox7450 and OmniWeb as my only two ways to get online now. Very slow. Very limited windows I can open at once to compare or research things, so I'm back on the PC to do all that and copy and paste quotes here for you. Seems once I pass the first question, the only thing Quote does is quote your message---I managed to cheat a bit and got what I wanted to copy from the Tex-Edit page to show up instead..
You recommended that I choose Tex-Edit Plus PPC Version 4.9.8---but as you see above that is only for 10.1 to 10.3 versions..... is there some reason why the Tex-Edit Plus (Beta) above is bad for me? It says 10.4 or higher.
Or why not use the "Universal" Tex-Edit Plus? Seems that covers 10.4?
I got both TextWrangler and Tex-Edit Plus "Universal" Edition to work on the Mac!

First time on board so I may have some things missing. I have a iMac 27' I5, airport extreme router and comcast network. Using a hp Office jet Pro 8500a plus printer. I can print a page from the "printer contol panel" such as self test diagnostic page. When I try to print a page from my printer the printer goes thru the motions but on the printer q it says error with this message " /Library/Printers/hp/cups/inkjet3.driver/contents/macOS/Inkjet3failed." Called Hp followed theiradvice,reinstalled printer software for 10.7 but same result.
I'm not sure what to do next. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I am a happy,new Apple convert after many years on PC.

Cannot add Epson SP 1400 to printer list after installing driver

I have a new Epson Stylus Photo 1400 and I'm having trouble adding it to my G4's printer list. I'm running OS 10.3.9. I installed the driver from the Epson disc but when I get to the Add Printer stage, the printer isn't on the list. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the printer software several times to no avail. I called Epson Support and they walked me through downloading and installing the newest driver, checking that the USB cable was good and connected, printer turned on, etc. Each time after the installation, the 1400 driver isn't in the Library > Preferences > Printers folder. When I open the Printer Setup Utility and click Add, nothing happens. It doesn't even open another window. Epson Support then advised me to call Apple because my OS might be corrupt. Before I try reinstalling the OS, I thought I'd see if someone had a better idea. I see similar problems from other users with Epson printers. Can anyone help?

I am having the same problem but with a newly-purchased Epson R1800. I followed the Epson instructions but when I got to the "Printer Setup Utility" it would not open; it was as if it wasn't even there. I know its not included with Leopard but should definitely be included with Panther since Epson says the R1800 will work with Macs using OSX(10.3x)! I called AppleCare (my expense), gpt a work order number and worked with them for half a day today with no luck. First we tried "disc first aid" but when that didn't work I ended up doing a full reinstall and archive with their assistance. Still no luck! The person assisting me tried but was unable to resolve the issue and asked me to hold on for another expert; I waited on the phone to speak with that person for over two hours and eventually had to hang up after figuring I was placed "on forget" instead of "on hold". When I redialed AppleCare, the recording told me they were closed for the day. Any help would be appreciated - from anyone!

Slow listing of hard drive contents after boot

Hi, I bought a brand new 15inch Macboot Pro (unibody) about a month ago. I quickly noticed that when after I booted it and opened the hard drive it took 5 - 6 seconds to list the drive's contents. Once they were cached ( I assume that's the reason) the next time I opened the drive they showed up almost instantly. However this behaviour applies to every folder I open for the first time. This delay is a real bummer. Does anybody else have experience of this phenomenom or is my machine faulty.

Hi, Nosebleed, the answer to your question is 'sort of'!! Or at least things are a little bit better. I found a comment on another forum suggesting turning off the the option to list file or folder sizes when listing any contents (HDD or folders or files). This sped some listings up a bit but left others just as slow. Another suggestion was to boot from the system installation discs and run a Hard Drive repair. Haven't been able to do this yet as my discs are somewhere in store (I know, not clever). If you do try either of these strategies please let me know how you get on. I also ran a copy of the free utility XBench and it looked to me like some of the listings for 'read drive' were a bit slower than I would of thought. That has led me to wonder if the drive itself is faulty. Does anybody know if there are any problems with any of the laptop drives?

Canon Pixma IP8500 not visible in printer list

When trying to install my Canon Pixma IP8500 printer (wireless connected) for the first time on my new iMac I found this particular printer was missing from the printer list, although in the OS X documentation it was stated that this printer would be supported. Although somewhat surprised I downloaded the latest driver from Canon. Surprise, surprise, after installing this driver (an action which was 'succesfully completed') it still was not visible in the printer list !?
Has anyone had a similar experience and/or does anyone know how to tackle this problem ?

Printer in System Profiler, Not in Printer List?

I ran into an issue after rearranging my office earlier in the week and I was hoping that you guys would be able to help me out.
I disconnected my Canon ip4300 (connected via USB) from my iMac in order to move it and once it was reconnected I could no longer print to it. I initially attempted to connect it to a hub along with my scanner however once it was connected I attempted to print a test page and it kept popping an error saying that the printer was not ready. I thought the issue was with the hub however I experienced the same issue when I tried to attach the printer directly to the iMac.
My next step was to delete the printer and reinstall the driver however everytime I try to add the printer via the setup utility it is not in the list. It is recognized via system profiler but not in the printer list. I also connected it to my MacBook and it worked without any problems.
Any ideas as to what the issue could be? Thanks in advance.

I am still unable to print even after trying all of your suggestions (with the exception of purchasing the Fixamac product).
I was actually in the process of purchasing the product when I thought I would try my Epson Scanner as well to make sure that it works. Well, when I tried to scan it ended up giving me the same type of error (Scanner shows in System Profiler but when I try to scan it says it is unavailable) as my printer issue. I pulled some of my console logs at it looks like the issues might be related. Here is the log after trying to scan:

How to print list view of Finder window

I want to print a list of the contents of a disk or a folder, just as I see it in the Finder's list view. How is this done in Tiger? In some older versions of the OS there was a menu command for this operation, something called Print Directory, I think.

There may be more user-friendly ways of doing this, but here's one way:
Open Terminal (in the Utilities folder).
Use "cd" to change directory to the folder you want to print
eg cd /Users/myuser/Documents
Use "ls" to list the contents to a file
ls -al > filelist.txt
You can then open the filelist.txt file from Finder in TextEdit and print it.

For those of you wanting to print list views with only dates that have events, CRM4Mac allows you to do this for events (no To Do's, yet.)

It integrates Mail, Address Book and Ical (excluding tasks) but for US$50. I hope a more complete solution is on the way (ie Chronos).

Does anyone know if syncing via .Mac will also cause the URLs to show up? None of my to dos have been entered via Mail and yet all but the one I just entered have the offending URLs. Most of the contents of iCal is there via a "Restore iCal..." done as part of a migration to Leopard. I have entered several since then, all via iCal. And, all but the one that I entered just moments ago have the URLs when printed as a list. In terms of .Mac syncing, I only sync iCal and Address book, and the sync is between two Macs running 10.5.1.

I purchased a Mac Pro 2010. I migrated from my MacBook Pro to Mac Pro. Then, the HP LaserJet 1022n won't print. I reseted printing system and now can't add that printer to my printer list. Software Update have installed HP Printer Driver v. 2.16.1 on my system. The printer is actually available in HP Printer Driver 1.1.1 update. But, no matter how I do it, it always complained that the Driver software is currently unavailable and ask me to install it later. I have downloaded the HP Printer Driver 1.1.1 update manually, but it won't install and showed my Macintosh HD as not a valid install target. I tried to install the driver CD that came with the printer, but it complained that a newer version of the driver has been installed on the SSD hard drive. Please help.
My guess is that the HP Printer Driver 1.1.1 update is on the system but is corrupt, that is why the Add Printer command can't simply pick up the driver on the computer. Other method also break down since they think I already have the driver installed. I think that I needed to uninstall the HP Printer Driver 1.1.1 update to correct the system. That is just my hunch.
Please advice. Thank you very much for your time and effort in this matter.

Have you tried un-installing the original (complete) software and re-installing it?
Usually that does the trick. After that you can try the update if necessary.

Here's one of the comments that you would have found:

1) Usual workaround for printing with Distiller under SL and InDesign CS4:
Copy the PPD called “ADPDF9.PPD” (download-link here in this topic) to Library/Printers/PPDs /Contents/Resources/en.lproj
Works for CS4. Problem: Does NOT work for CS5.
2) Workaround for InDesign CS5:
- Go to Applications/Adobe Indesign CS5/Presets
- Create a folder called “PPDs” (attention: foldername is case-sensitive!)
- Copy the PPD called “ADPDF9.PPD” (download-link here in this topic) into this folder.
- PostScript Printer will be useable within InDesign CS5
