Printing multiple envelopes from address book with Lion

I am having trouble getting envelopes to print properly from Address Book in Lion.  I have specified size #10 envelopes.  When I print them, the text printed on successive envelopes moves further and further down the page until the address drops off of one envelope and is then printed at the top of the next envelope.  If I print to PDF, I see the same behavior.  I have an HP Photosmart Premium printer.  I didn't have this problem before I upgraded to Lion, and all my settings are the same as they were prior to the upgrade.  I have seen that other users have the same problem on the forums, but there isn't a clear cut answer to how to solve the problem anywhere.  I also tried using the easy envelopes widget, and I still have the creeping further down the envelope problem.  HELP!!!

It seems to be a bug in Lion. Try the solutions provided in other disucssions about changing print size and orientation. Create a custom size and save it. You should be able to test it by printing to pdf first to check it. That way you won't have to waste paper.

  • Problems printing envelopes from Address Book since Lion upgrade

I've been printing envelopes to my HP PhotoSmart 2575 All-In-One printer from Address Book without any problems for years. I upgraded to Lion and now the first envelope is blank. Second one is okay but after that their print position slips little by little up the page until they become usless. I see on the forum that there are other people with different printers but the same problem. Has anyone found a solution to this?

Hi David and Everyone Who it Might Help
I was having this problem too!  *Many* thanks to you!
I was having it with both a new brother and Epson printer.
I followed your advice and created a custom envelope and just to clarify for any future reader.  The "rotate 90 degrees" is changed under the "orientation" tab by simply selecting the layout with the picture sideways inside of straight up and down.
Second, the size change you mentioned is for the "Height," naturally, not the Width.
    Many thanks!!!  Great find.

  • Problem printing labels and envelopes from Address Book

I am very frustrated by the impossibility, when printing labels or envelopes from Address Book, of including both an individual name and a company name on the label or envelope. The Address book will only print one or the other. When sending correspondence to a person in a large company or building, the correspondence will not get to that person with only the company name or the individual name. It shocks me that in all these years I have been a Mac user, Apple has never noticed and fixed this fundamental problem. I would now like to buy an Ipod or an Ipad, but I am reluctant because I do not want to have to sync my addresses to Apple's juvenile address book. Is there any solution to this?

  • Printing envelopes from address book always has a second page

When I print an address onto an envelope from address book, it always has a second page without any text on it even though I only want to print the address. So I have to select print 1 of 1 from my print options. Is there a way to eliminate this phantom second page?

Without actually seeing the screens you open on your system to set this up and print, it's hard to offer any ideas for a fix, since I cannot reproduce it on my system. Can you post links to screen shots here of these different windows from your system?
And are you running 10.5.3, or have you updated to 10.5.4 yet?

  • Lost contacts from address book with update

lost contacts from address book with update to OSX 9.3  How do I get them out of cloud back into address book?

When you log into iCloud with your browser, do you see your contacts online?
If yes, go to System Preferences > iCloud > toggle sync contacts on/off.
You might need to run the combo installer.
OS X Mavericks 10.9.3 (Update (Combo)
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1746
MORE INFO ON WHY RUNNING COMBO FIXES ISSUES
Apple updates available from the Software Update application are incremental updates. Delta updates are also incremental updates and are available from Apple Downloads (software updates are generally smaller than delta updates). The Combo updates contain all incremental updates and will update files that could have become corrupted.
Combo updaters will install on the same version as they're applying--no need to roll back or do a clean install. So if you think you've got a borked 10.8.4 install from a regular update, just run the 10.8.4 Combo Updater on that system.
"Delta" updaters can only take you from one version to the next. For example: 10.9.1 to 10.9.2. If somehow the 10.9.2 is missing something it should have, and that something isn't changed between 10.9.1 and 10.9.2 it will still be stale after the delta update.

  • HT1338 How do I address multiple envelopes using Address Book in iMac-Lion?

How do I us iMac to address multiple envelopes with different names and addresses?

Just select the addresses you want to print, and go to the Print command in the Address Book File menu, and select the following:
Of course you have to make sure your printer supports printing multiple envelopes of the kind you wish to print.  So try one, and then try a few, before doing a lot.

  • How to clear image in sender label to print envelopes from Address Book

    Hello!
I had been printing envelopes for greeting cards using Address Book. I had always ignored the "Image" option under "Label" for the +sender's information+. Today I decided to explore this option and clicked on "Set". Then I chose a picture from my "Pictures" folder. It looks nice and I was able to change the picture several times, but now _I do not want any "image" in the sender's label_.
*How do reset the "Image" to none?*
Thank you in advance for your assistance!
    Osk Asks

Hello captfred! Thank you for your reply. I tried to do what you suggested but it seems that it only works for cards in my contacts or for my own card. My problem is within the settings under label when I am printing from Address Book.
This is how I have been doing it:
    1) Select a contact or a group of contacts
    2) Click on File on the top of the screen and then select Print
    3) A window pops up and there I can choose whether I want to print an envelope, a list, or mailing labels
    4) In that same window is where I clicked on "Image" and "Set"
    5) Finally I click on "Print" on the bottom right corner and I get neat envelopes with my address (sender) and the recipients (my contacts)
I hope this helps you to help me!
    Thanks in advance!
    Osk Asks

  • Printing Mailing Labels from Address Book

Stupid question, but one that is driving me crazy.
How do you print a sheet of mailing labels from Address Book but when the entire sheet of labels is the SAME label?
I can print labels successfully in address book, can select the label type and number, etc.
However, when I select a single contact, I can't find a way to print up an entire sheet of labels (e.g. 14) of all the same contact - it only prints one label of the single contact.
Please help! I know it must be a simple fix but can't find it anywhere to select as an option.

OK, weird that this morning (one day after you posted this question) I had the same question. I just want to print some return address labels for my own company. While I haven't been able to find a software based way to do it, I did think up a workable (if a bit ridiculous) hack. Copy the address you want to fill the sheet of labels with however many times there are labels on the sheet and select those however many copies and click print! I created 30 copies of my own company's address in Address Book, selected them, and printed a sheet of labels without problem. A bit dumb, but it works!
    Hope that helps.

  • Printing "child" names from Address Book on address labels

When I put selected "child" names on Address Books entries and try to print address labels including the kid's names, they don't appear. Example: I add "Jim" as a child name to an Address Book entry for Mike Jones. I try to print the Address Label: Mike Jones and Jim. Jim will not print. "JI" will print. "Jimm" will print. Anybody else have this problem? What's going on?

    From another thread:
If you have a spouse or child listed on contact card it will print them all on the mailing label IF the first name of each person is unique to your entire address book. For example, if the contact is John Brown and the spouse is listed as Susan Brown and the child is listed as Chester Brown, the expectation is that the label would print as:
    John, Susan and Chester Brown
This assumes that there are no other contacts in your address book with the first name of Susan or Chester. However, if, for example, you have another person in your contact list named Susan (the last name could be anything), Address Book will print:
    John and Chester Brown
This is because Address Book looks at all the first names in your contact list and if it sees a first name that is also listed in one of the spouse or child fields then it looks to see if the the other contact shares the same address as the contact you are trying to print. If the address is the same, then it prints properly on the label. If not, then it doesn't print on the label. So if you have two Susans - Susan Anderson and Susan Brown - Address book looks at the address on each card and determines that Susan Brown has the same address as the contact you are trying to print (John Brown) and therefore prints her name on the label.
So, to make a long story short, if you want consistent and predictable results when printing your labels you should assign a unique card to each person that you want to appear on the label and make sure that the individual cards have the same address listed on each. So, in the above example, there would be a card for John Brown, a card for Susan Brown, and a card for Chester Brown. On John Brown's card, Susan Brown would be listed as spouse and Chester Brown would be listed as child. Print John Brown's card and you should get:
    John, Susan and Chester Brown
Although this makes logical sense, it's not incredibly intuitive and not very well documented by Apple. I was hoping they would enhance Address Book in Leopard since this seems like a feature that a lot of people would use around this time of year. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case this time around.

  • Print Mailing Labels from Address Book

After following the convoluted rules for Address Book, I finally got my Leopard computer to print Mailing Labels with proper relationships displayed. I upgraded to Snow Leopard and now this is all broken again.
I read http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3952 which describes the changes made to Snow Leopard, however for anyone who already put in a lot of work to get labels working correctly for Leopard (or Tiger), this is a major set back.
Not only that, the Snow Leopard method for printing labels breaks so many other uses of Address Book. I will name a few:
    iPhone:
I sync my address book with my iPhone. My buddy calls, now instead of "Bob Smith" displayed on my iPhone, I will see "Bob & Jean Smith" even though the call is from Bob's cell phone....all because I followed the new 10.6 rules to get proper labels printed by 'hacking' the first name field and changing "Bob" to "Bob & Jean".
    Mail:
When I receive and email from Bob, instead of it saying "Bob Smith <[email protected]>" it will display: "Bob & Jean Smith <[email protected]>"
I'm sure there are other examples of how this change will break other apps.
    Solution:
Apple should add a Print option to Address Book with a backwards compatibility checkbox that will include relationships with matching addresses to support 10.4 - 10.5.8 address book printing usage.
If you agree that Apple should add this Print option to add back support for relationship printing, add your voice to this thread, as well as post a bug report to Apple with similar contents.

A vote here for a checkbox in preferences to "include related names," allowing for 10.5 style behavior.

  • Printing envelopes from address book

I want to send out letters to family so I want to print envelopes out of my address book except the name comes up as the contact (first and last name) and then the spouse and all the children after the last name. Is there any way to change the display name on the envelope?

I'm not sure if there's a way to change that within address book, but you could always use the free EasyEnvelopes dashboard widget to customize the text of an envelope.

  • Snow leopard and envelopes from address book

I was able to print out an entry from my address book onto an envelope--easily and intuitively even
for an over sized envelope. However, I can't figure out how to get both the return address name (mine) and the recipient's name to print with first name before last name. How do I do this?

Go to preferences int the address book. Select 'general' tab and you should see option to display first name before or after last name. Select the way you want.
Then select an entry, go to print... select 'envelope' and you should be able to see a preview of how it will print. Cheers!!

  • Script to Update SL Address Book with Lion Address Book?

The only thing stopping me from switching from mobileme to icloud is my wife's imac, which is a little too old for Lion.  I have seen workarounds to sync calendars and mail, but not address books, via icloud.  Since it should be possible to export an address book from the Lion box and import it to the Snow Leopard box, perhaps that could be done automatically, once a day, using a script of some kind over my home network.  What would such a script look like?
Any other ideas for periodically replacing/updating the address book on my wife's SL mac with the address book on my Lion mac(s)?

The database probably won't do you any good: trying to replace it automatically is likely to fail as it's already in use. That at least was what I found.
You could export the entire contacts list as a vCard, and import it into the other address book, though you would of course need to delete the entire list there first in order to prevent duplications.

  • TRYING TO PRINT ROLODEX CARDS FROM ADDRESS BOOK

    HELP PLEASE,
I AM TRYING TO PRINT A LIST FORM ON AVERY 5386 ROLODEX CARDS AND I SIMPLY CAN NOT CONFIGURE THE SETTING TO WORK. I CAN GE THE MAILING LABELS PRINTED BUT NOT ALL THE LIST INFO I NEED. ANY IDEAS.

I worked on this some more and figured out how to get my files into Word and hence onto the Rolodex cards:
*under Preferences in Address Book choose Vcard, change to 2.1 and keep Western text
*export chosen cards to desktop from File dropdown (remember to return your Preferences Vcard setting to 3.0)
    *Open Word
*choose open document and import Vcard file, you get a long list which you will then have to modify (I put returns for the Begin Vcard text to seperate cards), choose the lines you want printed, format text, size, etc
*following rolodex printer card instructions you can merge your formated data and print!
Yay, finally. Why doesn't Apple allow this simple type of programability, even labels have been a chore for me.
