Printing multiple files

I have an iMac G5 running Tiger 10.4.3.
My issue is that when I print multiple files from within a folder, the the files are not printed alphabetically by the file name. It appears printing multiple files is completely random, since I have been unable to discern any pattern.
Does anyone know of a way to set the print order in the queue?

Welcome to Apple Discussions!
What if you view the files alphabetically in the Finder, and drag them into the Printer Utility that manages the queue?

I'm trying to research how to do this. In OS9 you used to be able to hi-lite multiple files (Word files for example) and just hit Command+P. This would automatically open all of the files AND print them.
I can't seem to do this in my OS X. Or can I? I can hi-lite and go to File/Print, but the computer is only opening but not printing.
    Any suggestions??

I don't know how to both "open and print" multiple files in one step. The ⌘O combination of course will open multiple items. The items remain selected so switching back to the "Finder" and dragging multiple icons onto the icon for "/Applications" > "Utilities" > "Printer Setup Utility.app" seems to cause them all to be printed to the default printer.
Alternatively, a user's "~/Library/Printers" folder contains printer icons -- I'm not sure what they are exactly, but they represent the printers set up for that account. They function pretty much like the pre-OS X "Desktop Printer" icons so dragging and dropping multiple files onto them should cause them to be printed. It may even be possible to create aliases to them on the "Desktop" to recreate "Desktop Printer" functionality. But again, this won't open the files into their applications.

  • Can no longer print multiple files from a PDF package

Prior to our upgrade to Acrobat Pro X, we had the ability to print multiple files within a PDF package.  We would simply select the files we wanted to print, say print and it would print them all.  It no longer does so, although it still allows us to select multiple files and to select ALL from the print menu but then it only sends the first file to the printer.
We have tried it on both Windows XP and Windows 7 and it won't work correctly on either one.
Does anyone have any ideas?  This is very frustrating as these packages are created by folks bundling their e-mail messages to send to the fileroom for printing and filing in the official case files.  With the old method we were able to quickly print out all the messages without attachments, and then would only have to individually print those messages that had attachments.  As stands now if we get a package with 100 messages in  it we will have to select and print each file individually instead of being able to print the 75 without attachments as one print job and then only have to do the seperate handling for the remaining 25 with attachments.
Any and all suggestions are welcome.

I'm using windows 7. The Acrobat that came with the Adobe Creative Suit 4 is Adobe Acrobat Pro. When I am on a web site that has a page in PDF I click on the printer icon and the print page comes up but the preview side is blank and will not print the page.

  • Can't "Print multiple files" or "Print bin files"

I had PSE6 installed on my 'old' PC and never had any problems. Then I had my PC upgraded and now I can't print multiple files from the editor or organiser. The photos appear but have a red circle-like icon in the top-left of the thumbnail.
I can print single photos from the editor. I have updated my printer driver with no change. The printer works fine from other applications.
I know this is possibly not a PSE6 problem, but would appreciate any light that can be shed on fixing this problem.
I am running on XP Pro (was on SP2 before but new system has been installed with SP3)
    Thanks in advance.

    Barbara,
Thanks for replying! I am using a Mac (OS 10.5 and Photoshop Elements 6)
I went to one of Adobe's help pages and tried to follow the instructions below so that I could print multiple photos on one sheet. However, I cannot find any "Organizer" or "Editor Print" dialog box in my Photoshop Elements software. Plus, I do not know what "Photo Browser" or "Date view" are. And the "Remove" button does not seem to be available.
The guide appears to be of no help, and I am currently lost. Are the directions below not for a Mac? Is there a book I should buy for Mac?

    Print multiple photos
You can print multiple photos using the Print dialog box in the Organizer. You can access this dialog box from the Editor Print dialog box.
    1. Do one of the following to open the Print Selected Photos or Print Photos dialog box:
In the Photo Browser or Date view, select one or more photos, and choose File > Print.
In Full Edit, Quick Fix, Guided Edit, or any other workspace mode, open the photos you want to print and choose File > Print Multiple Photos.
    2. To add more photos, click the Add button .
    3. To remove a photo from the print list, select its thumbnail and click the Remove button .
    4. Choose Individual Prints from the Select Type Of Print menu.
    5. Choose a print size for each photo from the Select Print Size And Options menu. Click the forward and back buttons to see each page of the print job.

  • How do I print multiple files in file name order

I'm using Windows XP SP3.  When I select all the PDF files within a folder and right click and print, the files do not come out of the printer in the order of the file names. I have the file names displayed properly in order on the screen, but they seem to printout in thier own order.  This same thing happens on all 6 computers in the office and they all have their own printer.  Also, one machine is running windows 7 and it only allows you to select 15 files max for multiple file printing. Microsoft referred me to Adobe to get help on these two issues. Can anyone help?
    Thanks

Do I need to purchase a different PDF program other than Adobe?  Does anyone recommend an alternative to Adobe?

  • Can't select and print multiple files from Mac OS' Finder

I'm using Acrobat Reader on Mac OSX. I'm used to be able to select multiple files in Finder and then press Apple-P to print all of them in one batch. Reader blocks this, by opening the first of the documents and then display the Print Setup dialogue, instead of just printing the document according to the default settings.
When the dialogue is displayed, the reader is blocked from opening and printing the remaining documents, and just displays an error message that it couldn't open them. That is not a nice behaviour.

    Hi Mikael,
It is not possible to open another document while printing another document through Acrobat.
You might want to create an action in Acrobat to print all the pdf's in a particular folder.

  • Why can I not print multiple files to one sheet and create a PDF of that format via Print dialogue on Mac? Very important part of workflow!!!!

Try this if you use mac.
Create a multiple page PDF. Three pages.
Go to print.  - Multiple pages per sheet so that you see all three pages on your sheet to be printed.
At this point, on a windows machine, you can print this as a PDF.  On Mac, it only lets you save as PDF (Not with the format selected).
WHY has this functionality been removed from the Mac version of Acrobat XI??? Adobe?

    Jon,
Unfortunately, Rave's response is quite incorrect on two major points.
The Adobe PDF PostScript printer driver instance was indeed part of the Macintosh version of Acrobat Pro until a few years ago.
However, it was NOT Adobe that killed the feature. Apple did! In one of the MacOS updates, Apple fully removed the capability that Adobe had to support this virtual printer. There was nothing that Adobe could do about this, regrettably. Adobe didn't cripple anything. Complain to Apple!
However, Adobe does provide a replacement for it that will yield similar results, but it is not available in Acrobat or Adobe Reader!!! In most applications' print dialogs (such as Word) - which printer you select is irrelevant, click on the PDF button and select the Save as Adobe PDF option. This will save your document as a PDF file with Adobe technology. But again, this is not available from with Acrobat or Adobe Reader.
However, you should note that the process that you previously followed and you would like to continue to use is commonly referred to as “refrying a PDF” and is strongly discouraged even where it continues to work under Windows. Why? The print function of Adobe applications including Acrobat and Reader is optimized for PostScript for printing, not for creation of PDF. Resultant PDF files have lost any transparency (it has been flattened) and all color management has been lost.
What you are really trying to do is to create a pre-imposed PDF file from an existing PDF file. Going through PostScript was and still is a very bad idea.
There are some third party plug-ins to Acrobat, such as Quite Imposing (Quite Software, <http://www.quite.com>) and PDF Snake (<http://www.pdfsnake.com>) as well as some “free” (you get what you pay for) solutions you can look up on the web that can do PDF imposition without ruining your PDF via PostScript.
    Hopefully this can assist you.

  • Batch Print multiple files in one click

I created an Automator app that allows the user to:
    1) Ask for multiple Finder Items
    2) Print Finder items
Problem is that when it runs I have to click the OK button in the print dialogue once for each individual file. If I run this workflow for 80 files to be printed I have to hit the OK button 80 times! I just want to automate this action too, but cannot find a way to do this.
Is there a way to click just once and have all files printed the same way?
    TIA

    Thanks for helping.
They are all .ods files created by OpenOffice macros from our intranet based MySQL database that are saved to our Tiger Server fileserver. We run a report from the intranet php interface which opens a OpenOffice Spreadsheet macro file, this then populates the template file with each data record one at a time that have been called directly from the SQL query, and then saves the files in a folder it creates for the purpose. It's a bit long winded, but it works. Neither Excel nor Numbers offers this ability.
After the files have been saved they need to be printed. The Automator app I created does nearly all I want, but is not 100% automated as each separate file needs an individual 'OK' button press, which is annoying.

  • How can I print multiple files at once

I have to print construction plan sheets on 11x17 paper.  All of the files are generally .tif or .pdf.  How can I select all of the files at once and print them all at once instead of having to open each sheeet and print them one by one?

Oner way is to drag and drop the files into your print queue. You can open the queue from System Preferences - Print and Scan, click on your printer and click Open Queue.

  • Not sure where to ask this- printing multiple files with file names

    Hi,
Apologies if there was a better place to ask this question- I'm not sure which program I should be using to achieve what I'd like to do and I'm not sure if it's even possible. I'm currently working for a publishing house preparing images that will eventually be printed inside books. Files come to me in a wide variety of formats. I save them as either tiff or eps. These files (the tiffs and the eps) will eventually be sent along to someone that is doing layout work for the book and then to the printers. Before that happens however I need to provide the editor with hardcopies of the images that will be published so that they can review them. Having the editors look at digital versions of the files is not currently an option. Our current workflow (not designed by me) entails entering all the images for any given book into an InDesign template. Then in Indesign I have to enter some information about the images (their numerical designation, their file format). Then we print the .indd file for editorial review. I find this process incredibly time consuming and tedious and I'm looking for a way to avoid it all together.
What I would like to be able to do is select a folder of images (tiffs and eps only) and print them at 100% (no resizing, one image per page) with the file name at the bottom of the page. Due to the number of images I'm responsible for, this could save me several hours of tedious work a week and would allow me to devote more time to producing a quality product. I thought I had found a solution using the 'contact sheet II' tool in adobe bridge. However, this rasterizes the eps files and makes them look unprofessional. An hour and a half of googling this issue has taken me to numerous dead ends. I wonder if there might be some way to do this quickly in indesign (at which I am a complete novice) or possibly via an automated illustrator function.
Thanks in advance for any help you may be able to offer.
Please do let me know if there is anything unclear in my description. For what it's worth, I am using Creative Suite 6.

    Hi Mylenium,
I appreciate the reply. I'm not sure that I will be able to convince the powers that be to drop the EPS format. I'm fairly certain that the printer, which the press has a long-standing relationship with, expects TIFF and EPS files exclusively.  In addition, I'm not sure if I'm misreading what you're saying, or if you misunderstood something I said. Typically, the EPS format looks great and prints fine through illustrator or via InDesign (in other words, it doesn't usually look unprofessional). I use TIFF for photos or illustrations and EPS for charts or graphs (basically, in any instance I have to set type). The problem is that the only way I've found to speed up the production of hardcopies for editorial review ('contact sheet II' ) runs through bridge and photoshop, ruining the appearance of the EPS files.
I wonder if there's a way to run a similar batch process (may not be the correct wording) through illustrator such that both the TIFF and EPS files look clear, print at 100%, print one image per page, and the file name is included on the printout. Basically, a one image per page contact sheet. To do this now, I have to place every single file individually into InDesign and manually enter information about the files.
    Thanks

  • Adobe Acrobat, Print multiple files to PDF and merge open files to closed files?

I have Adobe Acrobat XI Professional.
Print to PDF – How can this be done for more than 15 documents at a time?  Right now, if I select 16 or more documents, I cannot ‘right click’ and choose ‘print’.  Is this a setting issue?  If I have many documents I need to print to PDF at once, it would be helpful if there wasn’t this limitation.  Background: This needs to be done to PDF files created from Adobe Live Cycle (and possibly from other software) because the files cannot be merged unless they are ‘printed to PDF’ first.  I don't know an alternate way to merge these files.
Also, if I have a multi-page PDF open and I need to parse out the pages to different files, is it possible to drag the selected pages out of the open PDF and hover over a closed PDF and have them added to the end of the closed PDF document?  I don't know of a way to do this, but I thought I would check to see if anyone else was aware of a simpler way to parse pages from one document into several pre-existing documents without opening each and dragging the files between them.
    Thanks!

Thank you for your response...I can do the additional step to combine them, the problem that I have is that the documents need to be in chronological order.  If I print them to the pdf printer or export them, either way, windows sorts them and they are no longer chronological.  While I can organize them when I combine them there are many times that there way too many that need combined into one pdf, making it a very inefficient and cumbersome process to do.  So I was in hopes there was a way to just have the pdf printer create one file instead of one for each document, it would keep them in chronological order.  I suppose I could number them on the print to keep them chronological - but when there are 75 or 100 documents it is a bit of a pain to sit there and respond to each document as it is being printed, and then need to do the additional step of combining.  My goal in this process is to gain efficiency so thought I would see if anyone knew how to use the pdf printer to create the single file.

  • Printing multiple files in duplex mode: second on the back side

    Hi,
I am having a strange problem. I use Snow Leopard on a Mac Book Pro. Typically, I use
duplex printing. This works fine. The only issue is: if I print two different documents and the back side is
free after the first page, then the second document is started on the BACK SIDE of the first.
This is of cause VERY annoying. I tried various options. Both in the print menu and using CUPS. They had no effect.
This happens both at home (using a SAMSUNG CLP 550) and at work (through a windows printer server) to a Dell Multifunction printer.
Now, I am basically out of options. Does anybody have a hint what this good be and how to repair duplex printing?
    Thanks
    Klaus

    Hi,
thanks a lot for helping. It would be pity if this can not be corrected. After all this is no magic.
(Regarding Windows: my printer at home is certainly not high-end...
and the machine at the office was cheapest we could get from Dell with the functionality.
But this is a side issue, as I want to go Mac only. - I am still running continuously a Windows-VM and
I want to get rid of this. Would be a pain to do printing with Windows always.)
Inserting pages is not possible for PDFs. - And this is actually a major part of my prints..
    Cheers

  • Illustrator cannot print a file 47.7mb big but will print it after it is rasterize

Trying to help a user troubleshoot the issue. The user is a designer and prints multiple files. There is this one file that is 47.7mb big and illustrator says it cannot print when trying to print. But when the image is rasterize it will print.
The printer is Konica C454, connected over ethernet (local connection is not possible)
    iMac is running 10.9.4
try printing the file from local drive and over the server still the same issue
I am using the original printer driver from Konica and is up to date.
If you need anymore information please let me know.
NOTE:: I work for an Outsource IT company just trying to solve an issue. I do not know much about Adobe. Any help is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance

    stempmac,
If the printer has or can be furnished with a PostScript (emulation) driver, try to have the user use that. It may solve the issue.
Illy basically dislikes working with non PostScript printers because they may fail to understand what she is trying to show.
You may also have a look at this recent thread.
    Re: low quality printing
Edit: This specification page shows that it has a PostScript driver:
    Specifications - bizhub C554/C454/C364/C284/C224 | KONICA MINOLTA
It should make it work (if going through PDF works and it is not some (other) strange issue).

  • Problem with quick printing multiple .pdfs from Outlook 2010

    Hi there,
I have a user who is having problems printing multiple .pdf's using the quick print function in Outlook. I have tried reader 9,10 and 11.
11 errors when printing (nothing specific in the error message) and only 1 or 2 documents are printed.
9 and 10 error and report that a file is missing. Yet again, often prints 1 or two of the files.
I have reproduced the problem on my own PC.
Is there some type of bug with Adobe Acrobat printing multiple files using the quick print function within Outlook?
Any help would be very much appreciated.
    Kind regards,
    Will

I am not very skilled in Adobe by any means, but I was having the same issue.  When I did the Control P to print, I went into Print Options, then into Properties.  Under Adobe PDF settings, I unchecked the box that said "Rely on system fonts only; do not use document fonts." and that worked for me.
    Hope it helps.
