Printing now in black & white

I have an HP Deskjet D1520 connected to my Airport Extreme base station. It was working fine, but recently (not sure exactly when this started) color printing has failed. Now colors print only as black & white (like faint greyscale).
I connected the printer directly to my laptop and printing is fine, so it seems to be an issue with going through the Airport Extreme. Could this have been caused by a firmware update on the base station? It looks like it's running version 7.4.2.
Any suggestions would be helpful.

I am pretty sure I have run across this issue before. Unfortunately, I cannot find the citation right now. If I remember correctly, HP considers this normal operation.
For the DeskJet D1520, try the DeskJet D1400 driver from the HPIJS package found at _http://www.linuxfoundation.org/en/OpenPrinting/MacOSX/hpijs_.

  • Black & White photos printing as purple

My wife was copying some historical black & white family photos.  Six or so printed fine, then one photo changed from black & white to a purpleish tone at the 90% complete phase, only the bottom edge had changed colors.  We loaded another black cartridge believing this was the cause, but to no avail.  Now all Black & White photos are printing in purple.
    Standard printing is fine.
    Copying is fine.
    Scanning is fine.
But photo printing of black & white pictures results in the copies being 100% purple toned.
    Why?
HP 6510 printer, only two onths old.
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

The printer uses color ink to print black when printing on photo paper because the pigmented black ink is not compatible with photo paper.  It appears you have run out of yellow ink.  I would suggest the troubleshooting steps in the document here to resolve the issue.  Be sure to check the vents on the yellow supply as shown in solution two.

  • How do I order my print in black/white in the updated iPhoto

I have just updated to the new iphoto in Mac OS X 10.9    I am trying to order my color print as a black & white photo.  I have gone into the edit/effects area and changed the photo to black & white.  When I click on the share/order prints icons, the photo always reverts back to the original color photo.  In the older iphoto version, I was actually able to click on order prints, then it would give me a black & white order option.  This seems to no longer work this way.  I must be missing something obvious, but I cannot seem to figure it out.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Doesn't seem to be as user friendly as the previous iphoto version.  Thank you.

You are right - the "Order Prints" dialog does show the B&W version as a color photo.
That looks like a bug to me.
As a work-around, while you are waiting for a bug fix:
Use File > Export to export your B&W version to a folder and reimport the version.
Then try to order prints for the reimported version. That should show the photo in greyscale only, like this.
Send feedback to Apple, to let them know, that this needs fixing.  The form is here:   Apple - iPhoto - Feedback

  • Printing in Black & White

I am used to the Printer Control Panel in Windows, which has an option to print only in Black & White, I have tried two printers on my Mac, and can't find the equivalent option... There must be a better way
than converting the file to black & white first?

Then you have an Intel iMac. These are the G5 iMac (non-Intel) forums.
You should post in either the Intel-based iMac and/or the Mac OS X v10.6 Snow Leopard Printing, faxing and scanning forum areas.

  • How do I print in Black & White?

I have a HP Officejet 6200 connected to my macbook pro running OS X. Is there any setting so I can manually override and print only in black & white. It seems to be printing only in color and I cannot seem to find a B&W manual override. This option is available when I connect the HP to a Windows XP machine, but not on the Mac. Any thoughts! I'm tired of replacing my color cartridge.
    Thanks!
Macbook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

    Welcome to the forums!
In the Print dialog box, there is a drop-down menu that says Copies & Pages. Click that, and look for something relevant to your particular printer driver. For my HP color laser printer, it's Color Options > Print color as gray, for my Epson all-in-one it's Print Options > Color.
    Hope this helps...

  • Getting a full colour PDF to print in just Black

Is it possible [other than changing your pc print settings] to force a PDF  document, that is in colour, to print in 'black and white' and only print in colour if this  setting is overridden?
    Any help much appreciated.

To print always in black & white, you will need to change a couple of settings in the print dialogue that opens when you select print.
1 - In the print window select Advanced, the first options should be   for Output, where it says Color you will need to change that setting to Composite Gray in the drop down menu.
2 - In the same Advanced settings window you should find a drop down at the top that says Custom, with a button next to it that says Save As...
Save the setting you have just changed and name it something you will understand i.e. - Moll's Black/White. With this new setting selected click OK.
3 - Back in the original Print window is a menu called Presets... again select Save As and name it something you understand. With that Preset selected click Print.
That should do it, now whenever you need to print something black and white just select the Preset you have just created in the Print window and then Print. The settings should all remain and your print will be black and white.

  • New Nvidia Forceware drivers 61.77 turns Windows black & white

I just installed the latest Forceware drivers from Nvidia, ver. 61.77, and upon restarting Windows XP, I find out that everything is now in black & white!  I'm running a Mega 180 with Win XP Pro by the way.  Rolling back the drivers to my old ones brought back the color, so it would seem the new drivers are at fault here.  Does anyone have a clue as to why this happens?

    Hey Kid!
I got the same problem when I upgraded, and I too reverted back to the old drivers to get the color back. For some reason I tried a second install, and this time I found that an extra setting has been added to - if I remember this correctly, I'm at work now - the screen where you adjust brightness, contrast etc. This new setting is for reasons unknown set to the lowest setting as default, which is black/white. Raising it to its maximum setting brought back the wonderful world of colors again!
    Cheers!

  • Can I print in just black and white from my iPad to an hp5510 photosmart printer?

Can I print in just black and white from my iPad to an hp5510 photos mart printer?
It seems ePrint is no longer available and now forced to use HP Connect. I am not seeing the option to print in black and white. Printing email messages in color is a waste of ink. Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks

I was using ePrint however that is auto-directing me to HPConnected and I no longer have the option to change the printing options to Black and White or Color. This is a recent change for me.
    banhien wrote:
    Hi,
Yes, you have to use HP Connected now. Do you use AirPrint or ePrint ? ePrint allows you to select Color or Grayscale under Color mode (note: Grayscale ALSO uses color inks).

  • How to export a CMYK document to a black/white or greyscale pdf for print?

Hello, I have some knowledge in graphics design, but very little about color management.
Currently I need to convert an instruction manual I made to black and white output only. We'd prefer to keep the indesign (.indd) and it's source images in their respective colors, but when exporting the document to a pdf my printer can use, we'd like to make that document a black and white pdf, as it's a black/white manual anyway. A little color conversion isn't to bad, as long as it's reasonable. all images that might give trouble are in greyscale anyway.
So how do I export a full color indesign document to a black&white/greyscale pdf?
    ps:
very newb question, but if you don't ask, you never learn:
When do you use the colours "registration", and when do you use "paper"?

I am also trying desperately to convert my CMYK colors into a grayscale so that when I print the document the printer only uses K (and C=0 M=0 Y=0)
And I saw this bit of info you wrote a few months ago. I am working working with photoshop CS4. I tried to follow it but I found the following difficulties. Hope you don't mind me writing over your text.
    RGB image --> Grayscale
New doc --> CMYK image, same size, empty
Copy Grayscale and paste into the K-channel of the CMYK image. - (It only allows me to copy onto the CMYK layer but not onto the Black so I had to Drag layer onto channel delete the black layer and rename my new layer as black but then the document changes from CMYK to Multichannel and I have to re-change the mode again to CMYK but this already prints CMYK...)
    Place image in InDesign doc.
Everything else (vector, text) by K-only.
(...then when I placet that CMYK file into InDesign, and PDF it, on the output preview still separates the grayscale image into CMYK and when I print, the printer still prints CMYK instead of only K)
So then I say OK so.. let's use the Multichannel document instead, which it actually seems to print on K only (while CMY=0), it only allows me to save as PSD. and when I try to place it on Indesign... I have a message saying that this file is using an unsupported colour space, only RGB,CMYK, lab, indexed, and bitmap are supported by the photoshop filter
On top of that I have been asked for a Jpeg image in black and white which prints only K (while CMY=0). I have tried with channel mixed presets and even though the info on screen is now C=0, M=0, Y=0 and K= various values, when I send it to print. The printer still prints with all the CMYK colours
Any advice would be so much appreciated!
    Thank you

  • Black & White PDF's print with reddish hue

I have been using Adobe products forever and just had to upgrade to this Creative Suite. Something is different with the Acrobat Pro settings after I convert an InDesign file to PDF.
A lot of our ads are black and white with just our logo in color. It used to be that I could print using AUTO print and the black and white was truly black and white and the logo showed in color perfectly.
Now, the black and white has a reddish hue to it when printed no matter what I do. (It looks fine on screen).
My co-worker who also upgraded to the Creative Suite is having the exact same issue.
We both have PC's. I think it may be ICC Profile related but don't know enough about that to know what to change.
    Thanks

I've moved your question to the Creating, Editing and Exporting PDFs forum.

  • Printing a black & white photo

    Hi all,
I'm not sure whether this is the right category but here goes.
I have scanned an old photo using my HP Photosmart C4580, into Photoshop and changed the now, sepia colours to black & white which is fine.
The problem arises when I then try to print it on the same printer, as it doesn't come out black and white, it is printing with a distinct blue tinge so obviously it is not using the black cartridge but is trying to cobble something using the colour cartridge.
Is there a means of forcing it to print in black & white, i.e. ONLY use the black cartridge.
Before you ask, I am on WIndows XP SP3 (which I don't think should make any difference) and I haven't tried removing the colour cartridge as I have a feeling that it might complain that it is missing a cartridge and then possibly get stuffed up when I put the colour cartridge back in.
Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
    Regards

OK, there are a few issues here.  First, the cartridges are regionalized and there are four different regions and cartridges and printers are not compatible across the different regions.  If you bought the printer in the UK and moved to New Zealand then you will need to Contact HP to request a "Regionalization Reset". There should not be any charge for this, it is covered as part of the cartridge warranty. You will need to have access to your computer and printer while on the line with HP. You will also need to have a set of cartridges for the new region, once the reset is complete cartridges from the original region will no longer work.  HP's web page on the subject is here.
As for the color vs.. black vs.. photo cartridges, your printer can use several different combinations.  The cartridges are as follows:
Black:  Contains pigmented black ink.  This is excellent for plain paper text but is not compatible with glossy photo papers.  The drop size is ~3x larger than the color or photo drops since this cartridge is optimized for text.  When photo paper is selected this cartridge will not be used.
Color:  Contains cyan, magenta and yellow dye based ink. The dye based ink is compatible with plain paper or photo paper.
Photo:  Contains light cyan, light magenta and black dye based inks.  Used in conjunction with a Color cartridge the combination can give more detailed B&W prints and less "grainy" light areas such as color sky and face tones.
For your case a working color cartridge would likely print fine B&W photo's, but if you did a side by side comparison with a print made with the color and photo cartridges installed you may see an improvement.

  • Printing black & white

    Hi,
I have only had a mac for a few months now and there is one thing I still can't figure out...
How can I set my printer to only print black & white, either for the job at hand or as a default.
I have the 2.16 Core Duo 15" MBP with the Canon PIXMA iP5200.
I have wasted all my color ink on various items for school which only need to be in black and white.
    Adam

    Hi Adam
    In the Print Dialogue box
    ColorSync
Quartz Filter, choose black and White.
If you do this a lot you can set up a Preset, say called B&W, save it to the chosen setting, and then next time just select it.
    regards roam
