Printing off password protected pdfs to then scan them in and OCR them.. a paperless method?

To circumvent password protection, I often print off, scan in, then OCR these PDFs to
give me a version I can highlight etc.
My question is this, is there a papeless method to achieve the same ends?
A virtual hardcopy?

Any PDF that can be printed out can be scanned back in...
I am not looking to MODIFY content and then rediffuse it masquerading as the original, my aim is only to find keywords and highlight them visually generating a dataset of pages extracted from multiple PDFs where this word (or term) exists - this "condensate" is then reviewed by the reader (me) thus the desire to see where the words are!
Plagiarism is not my goal, distilling 12,000 pages of documents published online by UK government bodies is..... I am trying to understand where an assumed minimum length of a road surface treatment up to stoplines etc. comes from.
Please don't hesitate not to help me, I can see where you are coming from.

  • IPad to wireless printer with password protected pdf files?

I have a iPad 2 connected wirelessly to a HP Photosmart 6520. I usually have no problem printing a variety of file and docs....including pdf files. My friend sent me some password protected PDF files today. I have the password and can open them just fine....but I can't get them to print. It just ignores me (no error message). Any suggestions?

FYI, in case anyone is interested, I found out what is going on.
I created the original password protected PDF using Microsoft Word. I did this because I do not have a full version of Adobe Acrobat that allows me to create files.
On a hunch, I found someone that has a full version of Acrobat, and had them create a password protected PDF file. This file worked perfectly.
Apparently, Word is not strictly adhering to PDF guidelines, and OBIEE senses the differences, resulting in the file not opening properly.
Something to keep in mind for anyone linking to password protected PDF files in OBIEE.

  • Printing password protected pdf

I have iPad with HP ePrint installed. I can't print password protected pdf on it but I can use HP ePrint on my Android HTC phone to print. How can I solve this?

    Hi,
Solution: send files to HTC phone to print. iPad will always detect password protected and won't print, no crack. I don't know how HTC (or Android) can do this.
    Regards.

can you print password protected pdfs from an ipad?

This may help, but I do note that the printer you state is NOT on the airprint list. You may need to go to the app store and see if Canon has an app that will facilitate printing on a non AirPrint device.

  • Password protected PDF in iBooks not displaying

I loaded a password protected PDF into my iTunes library and then synced it with iPad (4th gen iOS 6.1.3). I see the PDF in iBooks on the iPad and when I click on it, it prompts for the password. I input the password and PDF "opens" but it's just the blank grey screen showing page 1/1 (it's supposed to be a 79 page document). Any ideas? I took the password off the document and loaded that one into iTunes then my iPad and it displays just fine. I did this same sequence with a different document and with the password it didn't display and without the password it did display.
If there is an issue with iBooks, any way to sideload this into Adobe Reader, or somehow "Open in" Adobe Reader from iBooks?
    Thanks
    Dan

It looks like this issue may be limited to files that have been set to restrict the user's ability to print or edit the document (even after a password has been entered for viewing).  I found that a password-protected PDF could be viewed in iBooks, but after I added the print restriction, I had the same problem you reported.

  • Mavericks Preview Opens Password Protected PDF?

I exported a image in CS6 Illustrater as a pdf. I saved the pdf using two passwords. One password was for opening it and the second one for editng it. It was saved with any editing turned off. When I opened it in Preview on Mavericks the Preview app correctly displayed a password textfield to open it. After I entered the password it opened correctly. When I attempted a basic edit of the pdf, a simple rotatation of the image, Preview displayed a little note indicating that the original document was password protected so it made a copy of the original pdf. I was then free to edit the copy in Preview such as rotate, add txt, and so forth. I don't think this is going to make many people who distribute and sell password protected pdf files that happy. What the heck is going on here?

  • Can't turn off password protected sharing - Windows 7

When I turn off password protected sharing in the network and sharing center's advanced settings, I save settings but when I go back in, it's turned on again.  Turning it off doesn't stick.
This is what seess to be forcing a password and prevents me from setting up a backup to a network share drive.
    Any ideas?

I noticed there is loads of stuff about problems with Networking Win 7 and XP/2000 PCs etc.  I also couldnt get Password Protected sharing OFF to stick and had problems with Win 7/XP machines loosing sight of each other, when a Win 7 PC was added to a Network.
I saw some comments about the Guest Account - needs to be about with blank password but the password prot off may not like that
So, I enabled it, set a blank password on it but turned it Off!!.
And, as if by magic, Password Protected Sharing OFF engaged OK.
    First, Using the console.
Windows Start - type   mmc   in search box, select mmc.exe which appears at top of Start Window.
On the console window do File - Add/remove Snap ins - select Local Users and groups - Add - Local computer.
Add other snap ins if you wish then OK.  File Save to save your console setup with a 'name'.msc - use the 'name' in the Windows Start search box next time.
    In the console window.
Expand Local Users and groups, select User folder, Select Guest Acct, Rt Click - Properties
Ticked - User Cannot Change Password and Password Never Expires
Unticked - User must change password, Account is disabled, Account is locked out
    Apply then OK
Select Guest Account - Rt Click - Set Password - Proceed - ensure password fields are blank - OK
Windows Start - Control Panel - User Accounts - Add or Remove User Account
Select the Guest Account and Turn it Off
Control Panel - Network and Sharing Center - Change Advanced Sharing Settings
    Expand Home or Work
    Network Discovery ON
    File and printer sharing ON
    Public Folder Sharing ON
    Media Streaming Off
Enable file sharing 40-56 encryption machines (if XP/2000 etc PCs in workgroup)
    Password Protected Sharing OFF
Hope this helps; I could however be wrong about the logic but lets see what the experts say (please modify/delete as appropriate)!!
I must admit the 'connectivity' on my Network has improved; PCs not loosing each other.
    Good Luck
    Steve

  • Need to recreate a password protected PDF but can't unlock origional

I have a password protected PDF protfolio that I need to recreate but no longer have the origional password for.  I could just write a new PDF, but so much time was spent creating the origional.  Is there a way to save a copy and then re-apply the password security?

I want to add that the pdf password unlock programs usually are easier to break the permission password for you to copy, print and edit with corresponding tools. But to crack the open password it's more difficult and if your file is protected by this kind of pdf security, you may have to type word by word from scratch.....

  • Detecting password protected PDFs in arcobat

    Hello.
I have a large database of PDF files. And i want to know if there is a function in acrobat to detect password protected PDF's
    without the use off (modified)scripts.
    I'm currently using AAX.
    Thanks in advance.

Are you talking about passwords to prevent opening the file, or passwords to restrict permissions (printing, etc.)?
You can detect both types of password with Preflight Droplets in Acrobat Pro:
Create a new Preflight Profile, and set it to check for encryption and report that property as an error.
Convert the Profile into a Droplet using the Preflight options menu.
Set the droplet to move the files to success and error folders of your choice.
Run the droplet against your candidate files (drag and drop files or folders onto the icon).
    The following will happen:
Files with no passwords will be placed in the success folder.
Files with only a permissions (owner) password will be placed in the error folder.
Files with an open (user) password will be left in their original location*.
*Unlike scripts, Preflight Droplets do not generate any password dialogs - if they cannot open a file, it is silently ignored.

  • InDesign Data Merge using password protected PDFs?

I am trying to print postcards with Data Merge and I've run into a problem. The source files for one of the images are password protected PDFs. They all use the same password, and I do know the password, but InDesign wants me to enter the password every time it processes a record.
If I'm printing 10,000 postcards, I would have to enter the password 10,000 times to make my merged file!
Does anyone have any suggestions? Is there a way to enter the password once and, maybe hold down [command + option + control + kitchensink] or whatever, while clicking "OK" to apply that password to all future password dialog boxes? Is there a script I can run that could automatically enter the password?
The original source PDFs need to keep the password protection, so removing the security en masse isn't an option. Making non-secure copies of all the possible PDFs that could be used seems really unwieldy and would take up a lot of network storage resources, so I really hope there is a more elegant solution out there.
I'm using CS5 on a Mac and I would LOVE it if anyone has any suggestions at all on how to fix this. Thanks!
    -Cole Hartson

Your path needs to use a colon instead of a forward slash. Also you might need to add the name of your hard drive before Users.
The easiest way to get the correct path is to manually place one of the images, then go to the links panel, right-click on the image name and select Copy Info > Copy Platform Style Path.

  • Password Protected PDF Files in Elementary OS

I have installed Acrobat 9.5.5 on my Elementary OS (Ubuntu base) system but when I try to open a password protected PDF file from my bank Acrobat fails with the error "There was an error opening this document. An updated version of Acrobat is needed in order to open this document.".
The version that I have installed claims to be 9.5.5 04/26/2013.
    Has anyone got any pointers?
    Thanks

Well,  first, you probably don't have Acrobat 9.5.5 installed on Ubuntu unless you are running a VM image or using WINE to do so.  You are probably using Adobe Reader 9.x.  If a file was encrypted for Acrobat X and later then you do actually need Adobe Reader version 10.x or later.  Unfortunately there isn't a version 10.x for UNIX/LINUX.  What to do?  Use a VM or WINE and load it up that way.  If you really are running Acrobat 9.5.5 on Ubuntu via a VM image or WINE then you need to load Adobe Reader 10.x or Adobe Reader 11.x.

  • Password-protected PDF demands password in triplicate

I'm having problems with a password-protected PDF (created in Acrobat Pro 8 ) which opens fine with a single entry of the password when downloaded but when website visitors try to open the form directly in their browser it keeps asking for the password and will only open on the third password attempt (by when most visitors will have given up on it). Could you please tell me what is causing this phenomenon and whether I can fix it? TIA.

  • How to display in browser a password protected pdf file I created?

I created a password protected pdf file.
I want to display the file in browser so that viewers can only view it online.
It is better that viewers cannot download it.
But I donot know how to prevent viewers downloading the file.
Since the pdf is password protected, viewers don't have the password even they download it.
But how can I display the password protected pdf file in browser when I know the password?
Or is there a better to just viewers see the pdf file online and prevent them from downloading and printing it?

Any file on the web has to be copied to the local machine in order for the file content to be presented to the viewer. That's how the "www" is built.  So, to make use of your web based PDF the file has to be downloaded to the local machine. This might be to the local machine's temporary internet / browser cache or (via a 'save this to my computer') to some other location on the local machine's HDD. Bottom line -- web based files get downloaded this is the case for protected file or a non-protected file.
    Be well...
