Printing on a RICOH

Moved into a new office with my MacBook Pro and am trying to use a RICOH Aficio MP C2800 to print.  However, it does not have postscript and all I get when I hit print is a bunch of blank pages and some script.  Is their a way around this?  I've tried download several different drivers but I'm not sure if any of them work or not.  Thanks for your help.

Without Postscript support in the Ricoh you can use PCL on a Mac. There is a Generic PCL printer included with Lion, however this will only print in black & white and looking at the model number you list I would assume this is a colour device. So if you want to print in colour then you can look at using the pxlmono package from Sourceforge.

  • Odd problem w/ color images from printing to a Ricoh c6000

    Hello,
I am running Mac OS 10.8.4 on a MacBook Pro (I have the same problems on a MacBook Pro running 10.6 as well).
I have determined how to print to a Ricoh c6000 (that does not have the PS option) using the software from OpenPrinting.org [http://www.linuxfoundation.org/collaborate/workgroups/openprinting/macosx/pxlmon o].
I have recently encountered a problem while printing from MS Word 14.3.5.  When I insert a photo, from a file, (color or black and white- I do a lot of my own vector graphics, Illustrator files exported as .BMP, for teaching science) it will print with black lines going from the left to right until part of the file is reached (apparently).
These files print perfectly from other programs; however, the Word file printed to .pdf will print the same way.
    Any advice would be appreciated.
    This (as inserted in Word):
Prints from the Ricoh c6000 as this:
Thanks for any help.  I did not have trouble before I upgraded my OS from 10.4 using Ghostscript 8.64 and Foomatic 4.0.1.  Then I got a new MacBook Pro (2013) and I am using OS 10.8 and Ghoscript 8.71 and Foomatic 4.0.6.
Please let me know if you successfully have printed from word to a Ricoh!

I should note that this file prints perfectly to a Black and White Ricoh 4000 using the pxl drivers.  This is why I think something is up with the way the color handling occurs.

  • Locked printing feature on Ricoh printers

    Hello.
Does anybody know how can the "locked printing" or "hold printing" feature of Ricoh printers be enabled when printing from SAP applications?
This feature works fine from non-SAP applications: one can set a password for his print job, and then the printout is retained into the printer until the password is entered in the printer panel.
But all print jobs sent from SAP are directly printed.....
Thanks a lot for any suggestion.
    Kind regards

  • I can't print to my RICOH AFICIO SP C410DN

I've tried for a week now to figure out how to coneect my RICOH AFICIO SP C410DN to no avail. HELP?
My printer is connected via an ehternet cable from my modem to the ethernet port on my printer.
I go to Printers & Scanners and it will not find it.
When I press IP, I'm not sure where to find my printer IP address or host name. I've printed out my configuration page and the numbers on it don't seem to work.
Not sure whuch Protocol pick either.

My router ended in .0.1. I ended up assigning a new and dedicated IP address in the printer per your instructions. I set the ending to .0.166. Once I typed it in, the protocol self selected and the name of the printer popped up in "Use:" at the bottom.
I added it and test printed a screenshot. Whammo! It printed!!! Thanks so very much. This was such a head-ache trying to figure out! Even the printer company signed on to my mac two times and connected to the printer but when I got back home at the end of the day and wanted to print, it didn't work. I was beginning to lose heart. I'm so relieved now. This printer was a $1300 printer and work horse! I was beginning to think that I would have to get rid of it.
The first major thing that I had to figure out was this... I used to just plug the ethernet cable in the ehternet port on my computer. I was instructed I couldn't do that any more and had to use a port on the router.
Since swithcing to Mavericks, I've had some serious head-aches getting used to it and setting up all of my Apple products. (iMac, iPad, iPhones.) Having been on a mac for over 20 years, I usually wait quite a while before I upgrade OS's. Letting others work out the bugs. Never the less, much thanks Grant!

  • Photoshop printing presets for Ricoh Aficio 3260c

I work in a small printing office -- we use all Macs and we do all of our design work with either Photoshop, Illustrator, or InDesign, printing it all on a Ricoh Aficio 3260c. We're using only Pantone colors in the designs but I just feel that there's some setting that isn't completely right in our printing process/programs.
I was wondering if in Photoshop/Illustrator/InDesign I should alter any of the printing presets/profiles so that it's set up specifically for that printer, if that makes sense. I know that there is a "Pantone Driver" for our printer, but what advantage does that give us over the standard driver and could that pantone driver automatically contain the presets needed for printing pantone colors on our printer without altering the settings in Photoshop?
I've tried contacting various support and Ricoh but can't get any real help/information on what we're trying to do as nothing is actually broken, thus they don't really care. I just feel that there needs to be some tweaking along the way...so if you can help, that would be great! Thanks.

    danny,
If you are printing to a CMYK printer, why are you specifying Pantone-specific colors. First, a large number of those colors are outside the CMYK color gamut, so yes, you will get color surprises.
That said, if Ricoh does have a Pantone driver, I would recommend acquiring it as it probably will give a better interpretation of Pantone colors for that specific printer, than more generic converting-on-the-fly routines would. (Otherwise, why would they have bothered to develop and market it?)
Speak to a Ricoh tech rep and see what he/she says about this. If first-line support is clueless, work your way up to the Ricoh food chain until you reach someone in a supervisory capacity who can answer your question.

  • MAC OS 10.9   some users cannot print to new Ricoh MP C6502   print job is holding for authentication and cannot figure out why

I have a few IMAC and G5 users who have OS10.9 who cannot print to a new Richoh MP C6502, I downloaded and installed the new PS driver and it works on some systems but I have 3 people that goes right to Hold for Authentication.   I tried deleting everything associated with this in keychain access and after I did this it comes up to enter a password and it accepts the network login credentials but still holds the print job.  I even tried using guest as login and password as someone suggested but still cannot print any ideas on why?

I apologize for the delay in responding to you.  I was on the road all day yesterday.
OK.  I switched the printer's Ethernet cable to a Linksys Switch (Model EZX S55W) that's part of this local network.  That did not work.  I swapped out the cable for one that I know works.  Still no change.  I switched the printer's Ethernet cable directly to a port on the router.  No change.  I even swapped cables here, too, but no success.
As I was doing all this, I was wondering: When I select the HP P1606dn printer in the Print and Fax "Add" dialog box, (see the image below) and the Print Using pulldown menu displays "Please select a driver or printer model" and the message "Searching for new drivers" appears under it (with the spinning wheel), why is it that the Ethernet connection to printer is critical to "finding" a new (printer) driver?
Isn't the utility searching through my system and libraries looking for a printer driver app for the printer that I identified/selected in the dialog box?
After all, if the dialog box lists the printer among those to choose from, hasn't the utility already discovered the printer via the Ethernet connection?

  • I can't print from my Ricoh Alficio MP C2050?

I have tried everything and am really at my wits end here. I have installed every driver I can think of and reset the printers 500 times and I'm still getting this infuriating error code, along with 300 sheets of blank paper getting printed out
    %!PS-ADOBE-3.0
                     %APL_DSC_Encoding: UTF8
                                            %APLPRODUCER: (Version 10.9.3 (Build 13D6
If anyone has ANY idea how to fix this or at least get me printing in just black and white, it would be really helpful!!!

What you are seeing is raw PostScript code.  It probably means that you do not have the optional PostScript module installed in the printer.  This model does come with PCL6 as a standard printer language.  You can use the pxlmono/pxlcolor drivers found at
    http://www.linuxfoundation.org/collaborate/workgroups/openprinting/macosx/pxlmon o
Be sure to install all three packages -- Foomatic-RIP, Ghostscript, and the pxlmono-1.9 set of PPDs.

Have you tried saving as a PDF from AI and printing from Acrobat or the free Reader app?

  • Problem printing to ricoh aficio 5502 OSx 10.10

greetings, one of my co-workers is having an issue printing in the latest version of adobe acrobat reader, free version build number evades me but we downloaded it yesterday 3/12/15 so it's the most current. he can print most PDF files as long as they are able to be opened in the mac preview app but there are a few that simply cannot be opened with that app and must be opened with reader. any PDf file that he opens in adobe cannot be printed, even the ones that can be printed with the viewer app. the printer is a ricoh aficio 5502, his mac has all updates installed, the latest version of reader and the most current drivers for the printer. every other program is able to print to the printer fine as stated before any PDF that can be opened in preview app can be printed from that app perfectly.
steps i've taken to resolve the issue are as follows
i've deleted and reinstalled the reader app.
i've removed and installed the latest printer driver for the mac
i've installed all updates to the mac OS.
i've checked other programs to make sure they all print and they do.
i've sent the files he's printing to another machine (windows based, no other macs were available at the time to test it) and the file prints fine.
any and all help is greatly appreciated.
    james

when i open any pdf file in adobe and click print the file spools, i also shows up on the pending job list on the printer but the printer never actually prints anything. it's almost as if adobe is spooling out garbage and the printer receives it and just drops the data without even trying to print it. i'd fault the printer itself but i can print to it from any other program on this particular mac without any problems, it's only items printed in adobe reader that will not print and it's consistent with any pdf file that we try to print using that program on that mac.
the only common denominator is the adobe reader software.

  • Can't print to Ricoh Laser AP2600 even after proper driver installed. Help?

Have a Ricoh Laser AP2600, and a new MacBook Pro with 10.6.3.
Connected the two with an Ethernet cable (the same Ethernet cable I've used successfully for years with this same printer -- it's the right cable). Turned printer on; "Ready to Print" it says.
At first just tried printing without making any downloads or installations, a simple TextEdit document, using the default "Generic Postscript Printer" as the selected printer "driver." Nothing happens -- the computer does not even seem to "recognize" that a printer is connected. Get the message "Connecting to printer..." and then "Unable to connect to printer; will retry in 30 seconds....", and it never succeeds.
Then I searched on the computer for a Ricoh Laser AP2600 driver that may have come with the 10.6.3 install: no such luck.
Then I found the page at the Ricoh site that supposedly has the proper driver:
    http://support.ricoh.com/bb/html/drute/ra/model/p26a/p26aen.htm#MacOS%20X%2010.6
    "MacOS X 10.6 PPD Installer Ver.1.3.0 24/04/2008"
Downloaded it, ran the installer, it was installed.
Went to the "Print and Fax" section of the System Preferences, then added the printer to the printer list by finding its IP address and manually entering it. Succeeded. Proper printer with an icon that looks exactly like my Ricoh Laser AP2600 added to the printer list. Selected it as my default printer. Closed Print SysPref dialog box.
Went back to random TextEdit document, tried printing again. My Ricoh Laser AP2600 appeared as the chosen printer, as hoped, and then I hit "Print," and the Printing Queue window opened. But once again, it was unable to connect to the printer.
Went back to the System Preferences printing pane, the Ricoh is listed on the left and has a green dot next to it, which supposedly indicates that it is OK and ready to print.
I went to Finder and the Library/Printers/PPDs/Contents/Resources to insure that the Ricoh Laser AP2600 PPD was there. It was definitely there, along with all alternate nearby variations ("AP2600 PS," "Aficio AP2600," etc.).
Tried printing again. No luck. Tried turning off printer and waiting for a few minutes, unplugged the cable, then turning it back on, replugging back in, printing again, no luck. Tried the same after re-choosing the generic printer driver, no luck. Tried the other kind of generic printer driver, no luck.
Help! This printer works GREAT when it works, and I don't want to have to buy a new one. It worked perfectly fine (and continues to work perfectly fine) when I connect to it with my old PowerBook running 10.4.11. Nothing's wrong with the printer, nor with my MacBook Pro -- all that is missing apparently is the right software or drivers or whatever to make it work.
    Any suggestions?

    Hooray!
Using your instructions, I finally got the computer to recognize and "ping" the existence of the printer. Once I got that far, it was easy enough to do what was my original goal, to set up a "printer" in the System Preference "Print & Fax" pane and successfully print a document, which I did.
One of the glitch-y final difficulties was that the printer has no way to make any IP address with fewer than 3 digits per field, so that I can't actually make it have the address "14.22.33.44," but rather it must necessarily be "014.022.033.044." While that may seem like a completely unimportant and dismissable detail to an expert such as yourself, to a networking newbie like me it throws one final dilemma in my way: Are the zeros "ignorable" or are they an essential part of the printer's IP? I tried setting the computer's IP with and without the zeros, and then pinging the printer with and without the zeros, and finally on the last configuration -- printer itself with zeros, computer without zeros, pinging of printer's IP without zeros -- the ping succeeded. A little counter-intuitive, but who am I to complain?
So, for the record, to help all the world's Ricoh printer owners out there, assuming this thread will forever be archived: here is a summary of...
*How to make a Ricoh Laser AP2600 work with a 2010-era Mac running Snow Leopard 10.6.3*:
Go to Ricoh's "printer driver" Web page at one of these two URLs:
    http://support.ricoh.com/bb/html/drute/ra/model/p26a/p26aen.htm
    or
    http://www.ricoh-usa.com/downloads/downloads.asp?tsn=Ricoh-USA&path=http://suppo rt.ricoh.com/bb/html/drute/rc2/model/p26L/p26Len.htm
...and click on "MacOS X 10.6 PPD Installer Ver.1.3.0".
Once downloaded, run the installer's "package" which will place the necessary Ricoh printer drivers in Finder>Library/Printers/PPDs/Contents/Resources (you can check to make sure, if you want.)
Turn on the Ricoh, connect it to your Mac with an Ethernet cable. On the Ricoh's little display/button area, press "Menu" and then using the "Up" and "Down" arrows buttons and the "Enter" and "Escape" buttons, scroll through its menus like so: Menu/Host Interface/Network Setup/IP Address until you find the IP address, which likely will be listed as 011.022.033.044. You can leave it as that or change it to anything else you want. But then go to Menu/Host Interface/Network Setup/(etc.) and scroll through the other options: Change "Subnet Mask" to 255.255.255.000, but make sure to leave all the other settings at 000.000.000.000. Escape back to the "Ready" state.
Turn of the Ricoh, wait a bit, and turn it back on, and scroll back to the IP Address and Subnet Mask to make sure the settings were "remembered." If they weren't for some reason, try again.
Then, on your Mac, go to "System Preferences> Network", click on "Ethernet" on the left column, and in the drop-down menu "Configure IPv4" choose "Manually." Then in the "IP Address" field type in whatever IP address you entered for the printer *but make the final number one digit higher*. Also, *leave off any initial zeros*. Thus, if you left the printer's IP at 011.022.033.044, then make your computer's IP be 11.22.33.45; and so on for any combination of numbers. In the "Subnet Mask" field, enter 255.255.255.0. Leave all the other fields blank. Click "Apply."
Then go to "Applications>Utilities>Network Utility," open the program, make sure the Ethernet cable is plugged in and the printer is on and the green "Ready" light is illuminated, and click on "Network Utility" "Ping" pane, and enter as the address to Ping your printer's IP address *lacking the initial zeros.* Thus, in our example, enter 11.22.33.44. Click the "Ping" button, and if the program shows pinging happening and a "0% packet loss," then you're connected. If not, go back to the beginning and try again, double-checking each step.
Once you have pinged successfully and are connected, go to System Preferences>Print & Fax, click on the "+" symbol under the list of printers to add a new printer. In the "Add Printer" window that pops up, leave it on "Line Printer Daemon - LPD" Protocol, and enter in to the "Address" line your printer's IP address, *leaving off any initial zeros*.
If the "Print Using" menu automatically detects and chooses "Ricoh Laser AP2600 PS" as the printer driver, then you're set to go; if not, and it remains on "Generic Postscript Printer Driver" or something similar, then in the drop-down menu choose "Select Printer Software" and scroll to near the bottom and choose the proper printer driver, presumably "Ricoh Laser AP2600 PS" (or whatever your exact model is). "Name" it whatever you want. Leave "Queue" and "Location" blank.
Click "Add" and your printer will appear in the list of printers in the "Print & Fax" panel. In the "Default Printer" drop-down menu, choose your new printer as the default. Close System Preferences.
That's it! You should be able to print now. Open a document, choose the "Print" command, check to make sure the Ricoh is the chosen printer in the print dialog box, and that everything is plugged in and turned on, then click "Print." Hopefully, the Ricoh will spit out your document in a second or two! If not, go back and go through the steps again. If it worked for me, it should work for you.

  • Can't print via network to Ricoh Aficio MP 171

Hi, I have a MackBook Pro with OS X 10.9.2 and I'm trying to print on a corporate printer/copier Ricoh Aficio MP 171 through the network, without success so far.
Actually any Mac on my work are not able to print on any of the three Ricoh MP 171 we have here.
Btw, I had this issue on OS 10.9.1, but upgrading to 10.9.2 did not fix it.
The printers doesn't have the PostScript option installed, so I installed the packages below to use CUPS:
    - pxlmono 1.9
    - Foomatic-RIP 4.0.6
    - Ghostscript 8.71
    - CUPS 1.7.1 (with 10.9.2 upgrade)
The printer supports almost all forms of connections: Bonjour, IPP, HTTP, Socket, LPD, etc.
Depeding the connection method I try to use, the behaviour is different, but in common with all ways is the following errors on system log:
    05/05/14 10:37:53,468 cups-exec[1038]: sandbox cache error 3850
05/05/14 10:37:53,619 cups-exec[1039]: sandbox cache error 11: database disk image is malformed
    05/05/14 09:27:37,671 cups-exec[2747]: sandbox cache error 1: no such table: main.imports
Those errors doesn't appear every time I try to print, usually they appear not in this order on the fisrt time I send something to print after reboot.
The "no such table" error sometime appears with a different table, like "profiles" and others I didn't catch.
The error below is logged every time I print:
05/05/14 17:14:45,441 aficiomp171_CUPS_SOCKET_PMO[3120]: The function `CGContextErase' is obsolete and will be removed in an upcoming update. Unfortunately, this application, or a library it uses, is using this obsolete function, and is thereby contributing to an overall degradation of system performance.
I have to add the printer through CUPS, as this is the only way to select the properly PPD file for the MP 171 (from the Foomatic driver package).
I need to use a PPD file so I can set a custom User Code. If I add the printer through the System Preferences, I can't type a User Code.
The error below appears on cups error_log according the connection method:
HTTP: job remains in the queue, error "Unable to get printer status" in log and Printer Spool dialog.
Socket and LPD: job disappears from the queue, no error is logged but nothing is printed.

    Continuing...
Winddows (smb) and IPP: job is paused and remains on the queue, error "The printer configuration is incorrect or the printer no longer exists" is logged on cups error_log.
What I have already tried, without success:
    - reseting print system, several times, no change.
    - upgrading to OS X 10.9.2 (as said before) didn't help.
    - update CUPS to 1.7.2 by compiling and installing from the source code: that messed up everything else, as it installs libcups.2.dylib 64 bit only, which causes every other 32 bit app, like Chrome and MS Office to crash on start up... reinstalling the 10.9.2 update fixed this issue.
If a try to print using the PPD from Ricoh site, the job is sent without errors, but on the job history on printer web page (Ricoh WIM) is logged as "Acess Restritcted" status.
    Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks.

  • Can't print or properly install drivers for Ricoh Aficio MP C6000

    Hi all,
I work in a Windows environment and I'm trying to get my MacBook Pro (OS 10.6.4) connected to the color copier/printer here. The model is a Ricoh Aficio MP C6000. I was able to download the PS drivers off the Ricoh website but when I install them and try to print, I get this message in the print queue:
"The printer software was installed incorrectly. Please reinstall the printer’s software or contact the manufacturer for assistance."
Any idea what's going wrong? The image of the printer doesn't match the actual printer which usually throws me off and indicates it's the wrong model installed. As an aside, I am able to print with this printer just fine through Parallells via Windows XP. Has anyone got this model working, and if so, specifically what drivers did you use? I'm at a loss here.
    Thanks!

I am not able to find the OS X 10.6 drivers on the Ricoh web site. You most likely installed the drivers for a previous version of OS X that will not function properly in OSS X 10.6.
I would suggest that you delete your printer. Then delete the following items that you most likely have installed:
    /Library/Printers/PPD Plugins/ricohJobLogC.plugin
    /Library/Printers/PPDs/Contents/Resources RICOH Aficio MP C6000
    /Library/Printers/PPDs/Contents/Resources RICOH Aficio MP C7500
    /Library/Printers/RICOH (the entire folder)
The next thing you should do is to determine what printer languages your Ricoh supports. Your IT person should be able to tell you. Alternatively, you can have the printer print out a configuration sheet from the printer control panel.
If the printer does have a PostScript module installed, then download the OS X 10.6 Ricoh drivers from _http://support.apple.com/kb/DL902_.
If the printer does not have the PostScript module installed, it should be able to use a PCL 6/PCL PXL driver. In this case, use the Mac OS X packages for the pxlmono driver. These can be found at _http://www.linuxfoundation.org/collaborate/workgroups/openprinting/macosx/pxlmon o_. Be sure you also install Foomatic-RIP and Ghostscript.

  • Ricoh Aficio MP C4501 with access codes for color printing

    Hi,
I read the discuss called "Ricoh 3245C with access codes for color printing", and I have a similar problem with a Ricoh MPC4501 printer. The printer is connected to many Windows PCs and my brand new iMac. It requires just User Codes authenication. PostScript is not installed on the printer (could this be the problem?). I've tried all the suggestions brought up in the mentioned discussion but I still can't print. It seems like the printer is not connected to the Mac. Here are the answers to the questions asked in the previous discussion:
    Is PostScript module installed?
No, I guess. PS is not one of the languages included on the Configuration Page.
What languages does your printer understand?
    RPCS [3.10.14], PCL 5c [1.02] and PCL XL [1.02]
    What drivers are you using?
I tried the one from the Ricoh site for OS10.8 (http://support.ricoh.com/bb/html/dr_ut_e/ra/model/mpc41/mpc41en.htm) as well as the driver (three downloads) from Linux (http://www.linuxfoundation.org/collaborate/workgroups/openprinting/macosx/pxlmon o). Neither worked. It might be helpful to mention that the Linux driver enabled me to print to a Ricoh Aficio MP 4001 that doesn't require authentication.
How are you entering your User Code?
Depending on the application. For Adobe apps, which are my main concern, I would have to click on the Printer button in the Print dialog to open the system Printer dialog, then enter the user code there under Job Log. I had to use the script provided in the previous discussion (http://webpages.charter.net/mbroughtn/beta/RicohUserCodes.zip) to add my User Code.
How are you connecting to the printer -- what protocol?
I'm not sure. I didn't find any of the protocols cited in the previous discussion on the Configuaration Page. If it helps, I know that the printer has an IP address on the network. And as I mentioned, it's mainly connected to many Windows PCs.
    Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Can't help with user codes, but I suggest you try IP HP jetdirect first whenever you add an enterprise net printer. You could always look on a windows computer for printer port configjration. There, you will find jetdirect called raw port 9100 protocol.
