Printing on cp1518 from Windows 7 photo viewer creates lines across print
When I click on a jpeg it opens in Windows 7 photo viewer. If I click on print, and select the HP universal print driver PCL 6, to print on an HP 1518, I get the print but with thin lines spaced about an inch apart, running the lengh of the print.
If I do the same print on my inkjet, the lines do not appear.
I should mention that I'm using HP photo paper.

Just noticed the last line of your post about using HP Photo paper.
Before switching the driver, make sure you are selecting the correct paper type in the print driver when you print on the Photo Paper. The printer cannot automatically detect the paper type loaded in the tray. For example, when you click Print, a print dialog will appear, choose the Preferences or Properties button in the dialog. This will open the print driver Printing Preferences. Click the Paper/Quality tab and find the Paper Type drop down and choose the appropriate paper type or the closest match.
Also make sure your HP Photo Paper can be used on LaserJet printers. If it is InkJet only don't use it on LaserJets. The package should tell you if it is safe for LaserJets. LaserJets use heat to fuse the toner to the page.

Officejet pro 8000 wireless will not print from windows photo viewer. all other diagnostics ok.
OS is Windows 7 Home Premium x 64. All functions and printing are ok with this unit, excepting for printing through Windows Photo Viewer. Have latest software, drivers, etc., and all HP software and hardware diagnostic tools check out ok.
Checked Windows event log, and get Event 350, PrintService - Document failed to print and was deleted because of corruption in the spooled file. The associated driver is: . Try printing the document again.
There is no additional info on this event listed in the Microsoft TechNet Events and Errors Message Reporting Center
When this happens, all of the lights on the printer flash very rapidly.
To correct, I clear the queue through Explorer, Troubleshoot, and unplug printer to reset.
Any suggestions appreciated.
ThanksFYI, I got this to work by treating my printer as a wired printer, even though it allegedly has wireless functionality. Luckily, my ohter devices can print to it wirelessly. At least I don't need to replace my printer just yet...

When I try to print from I photo ie a A6 lanscape picture a page apears showing me how I want the picture on the selected paper and size ie "fill" I then press print and then a window apears showing how it will apear on the paper and it continously shows the paper as portrait and the picture I am trying to print appears in a lanscape form so that only the center of the picture is printed with two white areas apearing top and pottom. Why does the picture not print in the correct direction as the print page shows I selected landscape format. I hope you understand.

Moving from Windows Photo Gallery to iPhoto

I have a couple thousand photos I'll be moving to iPhoto when I move to a Mac, and was wondering if anybody knows a painless way to get the metadata from Windows Photo Gallery in Vista across with them. Obviously I could go through and re-tag them all/album them all manually, but if there's a way of dragging albums, captions etc along with them then it'll be much appreciated.
I've tried getting WPG to sort the folder structure for me and do it that way, but I can't find an option to do that with existing (Only with new imports).
Thanks guys!Just select add when you import them and they will be added right in place. You can use LR to move and rename folders.

How do I print 4x6 photos on an HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus via Windows Photo Viewer or Gallery
Dear Experts, I've got an HP Officejet Pro 8600 printer with just one paper tray in which I loaded 4x6 photo paper.
The printer was purchased in January 2014, the latest drivers are installed. Now I would like to print a single 4x6 photo using Windows Photo Viewer or Gallery.I loaded the 4x6 photo paper into the tray as indicated by the little icon labeled 4x6in, so I suppose I got the HW part right. It's just the SW part which gives me a hard time. The available paper size options in Windows Photo Viewer and Gallerydon't include photo paper sizes, just the standard paper and envelope sizes.Hence I checked in the HP Printer Assistant in "Set Preferences" what kind of paper sizes are available, and there is exactly the same list as proposed by Gallery, missing photo paper sizes. So I guess Gallery just picks the sizes from the driver and ther are no photo paper sizes. This is an issue because I prefer to print from my PC using Win 7 or Win 8 and not from a SD card or a USB stick. Any help is very welcome, thank you in advance!Thank you for this link! Because you cannot create your own formats you are limited by the driver to what is typically available in an office, in this case: A4, Letter, legal, Statement, Executive, A4, A5, A6, B54 (JIS), Envelopes #10-DL-C5-C6-A2-Monarch, Japanese Postcard, Japanese Envelope Chou #3-#4, L, 2L, O**bleep**u hagaki, Index Card Letter-A4, Edge-to-Edge Letter-A4, Env. Japanese No 3-No 4 and that's it, not more. Thank you anyway for trying to help me but in this case only the SW developers in HP can help.It would be great to be able to print from time to time a 4x6 photo on this printer like I would do.Copying photos on a USB stick or on a SD card first and then use this way to print on the printer is too cumbersome for me.

Why do I get a Fax prompt window when I try to print from Windows Photo Gallery?
Trying to print photos from Windows Photo Gallery. Print job looks as if it goes to the queue, but does not actually print. Fax prompt window pops up as if I were preparing to fax. Do I now have to disable the fax in order to print photos? I take phone calls and faxes on the same phone line.

The reason you find a check mark on a printer icon is to indicate that its a default printer. If the fax icon has a check mark, everytime you print a fax template will come up.
SOlution: Just right click on the other icon and select it as the default printer.

Windows Photo Viewer desaturates the edited photos from Photoshop?
Do I need to change a color profile in Adobe Photoshop CS6 to prevent windows photo viewer from desaturating when viewing them after edit? I gave some edited and unedited pictures to a customer and it desaturated the edited pictures but not the unedited images.

The answer is simple! Go to EDIT>COLOR SETTINGS
At the bottom you can see "Advanced Controls" - Uncheck "DESATURE MONITOR COLORS BY" -

Windows do not repect the digital EXIF specification. Use a free viewer http://www.irfanview.net/ for Windows.

In Bridge preferences file type associations you can alter the application you want Bridge to open that file type in.

The open with shows all applications on your system, if you have not uninstalled the trial version properly you should try to do so or just ignore it. -
DPI and image quality in programs like Windows Photo Viewer
I'll keep this as short as possible. About 6 years ago I bought a Panasonic Lumix DMC-F28 digital camera (not DSLR). It claims 10 MP. After that my daughter bought a Canon Rebel (don;t know the model) which has 12 MP. I would compare her pics with mine by looking at them in Windows Photo Viewer. Hers always looked a lot fuzzier than mine. Especially true if you zoomed in. And I gave her a hard time, saying she had bought a knock off.
I just purcahsed a Rebel T5i with the usual kit 18/55 lens. I took a picture with both the new and the old camera. Guess what? Given the same subject with the same lighting, the Panasonic still produces much clearer pictures in Windows Photo Viewer than the Canon. The only difference I see is that the Canon states the DPI as 72 and the Panasonic as 180. OF course, the Canon image has a lot more pixels.
I know that DPI matters only when a picture is printed. But is it possible that the DPI property in the image file is telling Windows Photo Viewer how to present the image? I hope so. Otherwise I lucked out with my Panasonic and got the best camera in the world, or a Canon is not so great after all.

Canon ImageYou comparison method is seriously flawed. For 1 image to be at 72 DPI (a software supplied setting) & the other to be at 180 DPI it means that one image has been enlarged (180 divided by 72) 2.5 times more than the other to view it on screen. Zoom in on the good image until it's 2.5 times larger & see how it looks.
Next thing you need to know is that camera technique becomes more important as pixel count increases. an 18 Mpixel image will have an 80% increase in softness over the 10 Mpixel camera from identical camera shake. To make any accurate form of comparison you will need to eleminate the possibility of introducing camera shake into the test. You will also need very similar lighting & the subject must also be stationary for all test shots. (IE that eye (or the person it's attached to) may have moved during one shot but not the othern

Windows photo viewer - problem with JPEG files
Can not open JPEG files and can not create JPEG files from other software (For example from Solidworks).
When I try to right click on a JPEG, a notice window appears written: "Windows Explorer has stopped working - Windows is
checking for a solution to the problem" and then the notice box disapears, the desktop appears and I can continue working.
From the other side - If I try to save as JPEG a screen of Solidworks (like a view of a part) the Solidworks falls but the JPEG
is created (I can see its name in the directory I created it).
I can open the JPEGS with the Paint software if I want but not with the Windows Photo Viewer.
I have the feeling that the Windows Photo Viewer disapeared from my computer - just a feeling.
I will appreciate your assistance.

According to your description,please re-associate the .jpeg with Windows photo viewer.
1.Open Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Default Programs\Set Default Programs.
2.Click Windows Photo Viewer, and choose defaults for this program, check the .jpeg, and then click Save.
3.Next,click Windows Photo Viewer again, and click Set this program as default.
As you said, when you tried to right click on a JPEG, Windows Explorer stopped working.
I suggest you use ShellExview to remove the third-party shell extension.

But they are only for Tablet.

Issue with Windows Photo Viewer: "can't save picture because an unknown error occured"
Hi,
I recently installed Windows 7 RC (Build 7100). I quite often have an issue in Windows Photo Viewer when rotating an image and trying to go to the next picture. It gives me the error "Windows Photo Viewer can't save picture because an unknown error occured".
Seperate from this issue: when I delete a picture in Windows Photo Viewer, it is still in the Windows Explorer overview of files. This did not use to be the case in Windows XP?

In addition, please understand that Nikon RAW images (and most Canon) do not support rotate functionality in Windows Photo Viewer, and thus rotate is
disabled. To rotate those types of images, the user will need to use an image editing program that fully supports their RAW codec.

I am using Win 7 x64 Ultimate RTM and still have this problem (with JPG's dumped from my Nikon to the hard drive). Doesn't do it on every one that I rotate, but still very annoying. Is there a fix? -
Bridge opens JPEG files in Windows Photo Viewer not Photoshop
How do I tell Bridge to open my JPEG files in Photoshop and not Windows Photo Viewer? I see that Windows Photo Viewer is selected as the default in my preferences and I do not see Photoshop as an option. I do see COM Surrogate 6.1. I just upgraded from CS5 to CS6 yesterday and I am just noticing this issue. I never dealth with this problem with CS5. Any suggestions? Thank you all for the help.
If you deleted CS5 after installing CS6 you are one of the unfortunate that also fouled up the file associations.
The safest way to restore function is to uninstall CS6, run the Adobe script cleaner and reinstall.
There is a registry fix that I include as an option, but on vacation so can not find that references.
Some have had succes with running CCleaner, but registry cleaners can cause some problems of their own if the delete "good files".
