Printing on HP DesignJet from Photoshop CS5 or CS5.5 in Windows 7 32-bit makes red colored images

Please help! What is the problem? Inks and cartridges are fine. In Windows XP everything worked OK.

  • Cannot direct upgrade from Photoshop CS2 to CS5 Extended

Despite the information in various spots on Adobe's website, it appears that it's not possible to simply upgrade from Photoshop CS2 to CS5 Extended. After entering the CS5 serial number, the installer asks for the serial number of a "qualifying product". This includes a dropdown list that only has
    Photoshop CS5
    Photoshop CS4 Extended
    Photoshop CS3 Extended
    Here's the view:
Entering the CS2 serial number == fail.
A call to Adobe support get past this issue, basically reading out a challenge/response from the installer to the guy on the phone. But this seems remarkably stupid to me. Was it really more effective to force me (and anyone else following this upgrade path) to call tech support just to install the software I just past $350 for? And if this was the plan, why not SAY SO ON THE ADOBE WEBSITE?!?
Has anyone else run into this issue? If so, was calling tech support the only way out?

You are correct in wishing Adobe made it clear that you do need to go through Customer Service to accomplish this.
Most users make the purchase through Adobe and straighten this out before installing.

  • Can I upgrade from Photoshop CS2 to CS5 after installing Lion?

Can I upgrade from Photoshop CS2 to CS5 after installing Lion?   Or should I have done it before installing Lion?

I think you are missing my point.
For the last many editions of the creative suite they have each been completely independent. There is no "going over a previous version. Each version stands on its own and is a clean install — as long as you haven't installed that specific version before.
And "obsolete" is a pretty relative term. With products as complex as the creative suite there are often features (or even whole applications) that change between versions. Many people I know keep earlier versions around, just for that very reason.

  • No Print To File option in Photoshop Lightroom (Mac OS and Windows)

Q - Where do I find the "Print To File" option in Photoshop Lightroom (Mac OS and Windows)?
A - Photoshop Lightroom does not have the ability to print to file, but some print drivers can access the ability of the operating system to print to file. See
    TechNote for further information.

If you use print to file then you get a file that is meant to be send to a printer and that file has all kind of formatting code for that specific printer.
Opening such a file in Firefox or a text editor can only work if you use a text only printer to print the file to, so make sure that such a printer is installed and selected.

  • Can't Print to Epson Printers from Photoshop

Hey everyone - for some reason I am unable to print from Photoshop CS6 to two different Epson printers - an Epson 9800 and an Epson 7880. I have tried to print from three different computers (OS 10.6 and OS 10.8) and have also tried three different USB cables. Each time I get the same results - the computer acts like it sends the data to the printer, but the printer never prints anything. I am not getting any error messages. I am attepting to print a 3960x2160, 720 DPI RGB TIF image. I tried printing from Preview as a test but that didn't work either.
This is a new problem as I have been printing to these printers for years with no issues.
I have tried reinstalling drivers, turning the computer and printers on and off, cleared my caches and repaired permissions, but so far no luck.
However there is ONE situation in which I am able to print - if I save the image as PDF and print it from from Acrobat, specifically with "Acrobat Color Management" selected, it WILL print. If I try to print from Acrobat with "Printer Manages Colors" selected, it will not print.
This is really driving me mad and I would love to find a solution. Major thanks to anyone who can help!

Success! I have no idea what the issue here is but I tried printing a completely different file as a test, and lo, that file prints fine. The other file does not. Since the file I'm trying to print is a rasterized Illustrator file, I just rasterized it again so I'm working with a new file, and it prints! I am so pleased.

  • No response from printer when printing a specific file from Photoshop CS6

I am printing from Photoshop to an Epson 3880 printer. I have a specific batch of files from a client that cause the print dialogue to immediately quit when requesting a print job, therefore never sending the information to the printer. With other files, I am able to print normally from Photoshop. After spending the morning on the phone with Epson, I isolated the problem to being with the file in Photoshop. These files were sent to me as PDFs and I converted them to PSDs. Having a hard time understanding this issue.
Does anyone know what kind of file would cause communication between photoshop and the printer to cease?

Photoshop does not communicate directly with the printer.
Photoshop communicates with the OS, which communicates with the driver, and the driver communicates with the printer.
But there may be something in the previously used print settings in the file that the driver does not like and causes it to misbehave.
(note: Epson has had a LOT of problems with their drivers on MacOS 10.9)

Photoshop's separate Macintosh or Windows forums are now read-only. If you recently started an active discussion in those forums, simply add the thread URL here. We'll move it to this cross-platform forum so the conversation can continue.

To get Photoshop 7.0 (or 7.0.1 in my case) to work under Windows 7 64-bit, I ran the CD's Autorun under Windows XP service pack 2 compatibility. I also set the same compatibility prefs in Win 7 for the setup.exe file in the Photoshop directory of the CD-ROM.
You'll possibly encounter an error about the scratch disk being full - this is because PS 7 fails to understand big hard drives (the mega free space number looks like an empty disk, it's kinda like a Y2K problem, since PS7 programmers or the API writers never imagined so much free space, I guess). In this case, two things are important:
You need a partition that's less than 1TB (not sure about the size, it's in another thread) for the scratch disk. I used my system's recovery partition (only 2GB free, however). Other advice I found was to create a scratch partition using Windows 7 partitioning. Maybe a USB key would work? Surely not very fast...
PS 7 will fail on startup with the "scratch disk full" error and exit. To get PS 7 to allow you to specify it, hold down CTRL and ALT when the program is launching. You'll be given a chance to indicate the partitions.

  • [CS5] Resolution too low in part of 2 spot color image

This is a 2 spot color book project, no black. I'm having trouble certifying the pdf because of one image.
The image is a bitmap eps in one of the two spots. On top of it is a vector circle with a non-transparent stroke and a fill at 20%, in the other spot color.
When rendered to a flattened pdf the parts with the transparency are 1x1 dpi.
Now I could redo the image in Photoshop, add the circle there and save as a two-color eps of pdf. But is there a way to fix that in Indesign itself?

This is not the illustration but it's similar
    http://www.megaupload.com/?d=ST2V3FJF
I've made a second channel here for the second spot. Tried to certify this and that works.
So am I right in thinking that you can not use transparency with spot bitmaps?
The tiff option wasn't available for me.

  • Upgrading from photoshop CS to CS5

Is this possible?, Or do I have to pay the full upgrade cost?  or possibly upgrade to CS4 first the CS5 this would save about £280.00 over the full upgrade.
    Best regards

    Mac+Win=Me wrote:
From what I've read, if you upgrade to CS4 from CS, you've used your upgrade option for your license and you WILL have to pay the full price for CS5 as a new licensing will be required.
There is absolutely no truth in that statement.  If you upgrade from CS to CS4 now, you will then be able to update from CS4 to CS5, and from CS5 to CS6, from CS6 to CS7 and so on and on.  You might even get a free upgrade to CS5 if you buy CS4 now, not 100% sure of that.
The trick is to do so right now, before CS4 ceases to be sold in about a few weeks.
I haven't bought a full version of Photoshop since Photoshop 6, then upgraded to 7, 8 (CS), 9 (CS2), 10 (CS3) and finally 11 (CS4).  I'm still eligible to upgrade to CS5, except that I won't be doing so for financial reasons, as it would require a hardware upgrade for me too.

  • Changing External Editor from Photoshop CS to CS5

I've looked through the preferences pane but for the life of me can't figure out how to get iPhoto to switch its external editor from CS to CS5. Does anyone here have any idea? TIA!

In iPhoto's General Preferences use that menu to select CS again. That will let you navigate to the editor of your choice to select it. It's not very intuitive, is it?
This may be preaching to the choir but FWIW:
Using Photoshop (or Photoshop Elements) as Your Editor of Choice in iPhoto.
1 - select Photoshop as your editor of choice in iPhoto's General Preference Section's under the "Edit photo:" menu.
2 - double click on the thumbnail in iPhoto to open it in Photoshop. When you're finished editing click on the Save button. If you immediately get the JPEG Options window make your selection (Baseline standard seems to be the most compatible jpeg format) and click on the OK button. Your done.
3 - however, if you get the navigation window that indicates that PS wants to save it as a PS formatted file. You'll need to either select JPEG from the menu and save (top image) or click on the desktop in the Navigation window (bottom image) and save it to the desktop for importing as a new photo.
This method will let iPhoto know that the photo has been editied and will update the thumbnail file to reflect the edit..
NOTE: With Photoshop Elements 6 the Saving File preferences should be configured: "On First Save: Save Over Current File". Also I suggest the Maximize PSD File Compatabilty be set to Always.
If you want to use both iPhoto's editing mode and PS without having to go back and forth to the Preference pane, once you've selected PS as your editor of choice, reset the Preferences back to "Open in main window". That will let you either edit in iPhoto (double click on the thumbnail) or in PS (Control-click on the thumbnail and seledt "Edit in external editor" in the Contextual menu). This way you get the best of both worlds

  • How do I print a custom size from Photoshop CS3?

I am using Photoshop CS3 with System 10.6 Snow Leopard, and I am printing on an Epson Stylus Photo R2000. The custom paper size is 8.5 x 14 inches. When I print the page the design appears to have expanded beyond the paper size. I need to make a borderless print, so I can't just shrink the image. What do I need to do?

There should be a Custom Size setting for your Printer in the Photoshop Print dialog: Page Setup > Paper Size > Manage Custom Sizes.

However having tried CS5 on a friends PC I was  impressed and decided to purchase the upgrade from CS2 to CS5. I would like to kow if I have to reinstall CS2 or can clean install CS5 which I would prefer.?

Thanks for the help your answer was the best.
As a follow up I would like to ask how to avoid having to frequently reactivate CS5 which was my big problem in CS2/ My system is mission critical it has four bootable system disks and one non-bootable common disk (for temp, Internet cache and installation files. Using a "CasperSDB3" I backs up the active drive every night to an identical drive, which as just previously backed up to an external SATA drive. So in this way I have a highly secure grandfather son grandson set of bootable drives. The trouble with APS CS2 was that after having to recover about four times in five years the CS2 application when loaded would say that the serial number was not recognized and I had to have a lengthy phone call to Adobe support.
Is there a way to avoid this in CS 5?

  • Why do my files print as a thumbmail from Photoshop CS4

Recently using Adobe Photoshop CS4. My files started printing as thumbmails only. I believe it is a known glitch in the program. Is there a way to work around it?

Shot in the dark here but worth a try. Try resetting the prefs by keyboard or the manual way. Read this:
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/375776?tstart=0
Also change the default printer to something else other then what you print on. Like mine is set in windows as Microsoft XPS Document writer in windows. So when I go to print I choose in the print options my real printer, that is on a network, to do the printing. This has cured a lot of printer problems with CS4. worht a try and you can always change it back in windows and restart CS4.

  • Printing to DVD Disk From Photoshop and Other Apps

I have Sure Thing disk labeling software and Photoshop CC that I use to create labels. There doesn't seem to be any presets for using this specific printer to work with DVD disks. How do I get the info for this printer into the other apps so that they show up as choices in the print settings? Your user manual gives NO information on this. What settings should I use?
For example, in the Photoshop print settings, when I select the Pro-100 as the printer it shows a print preview window that is inaccurate. It shows a 5.95" x 12.6" document with the print design in the center vertically and horizontally. But, the DVD is not in the center of the print tray. It is about 2/3rd of the way up and slightly to the left. The computer needs to know the exact position settings so that it prints where it's supposed to.
In the Sure Thing software, the presets do not even list this printer. It seems when you install the printer driver software, that all of that information should be installed into any apps that use the printer. The same goes for the DVD case inserts.

Applications don't have printer specific information -- all of that is part of the printer driver provided by the printer manufacturer.
You need to contact your printer maker and work with them to determine why their driver is not providing the necessary information to the OS and Photoshop.

  • Unable to print using PDF Converter from Photoshop

For years I have been able to select "Adobe PDF Converter" in my print dialogue box...resulting in the creation of a PDF file. Although the choice to use this printer driver is still an option, it won't generate a file. It gives me an error box, with no explanation as to what the error might be. Any ideas?
I'm using Photoshop CS3, and Windows Vista.

What version of Acrobat? Only Acrobat 9 is certified for Vista. Older versions do not cope with some of the driver and security stuff on Vista and therefore may not work correctly or not at all.
